Report: Jets Coaches Say Haason Reddick Still Has It

March 11th, 2025

New Bucs edge rusher Haason Reddick.

Bucs fans from Gibsonton to East Lake must have loved watching the start of ESPN’s live coverage of the start of free agency yesterday.

Super insider Adam Schefter was on the studio panel talking and quickly asked fellow insider Jeremy Fowler to take over for him. Something was blowing up Schefter phone.

It turned out to be the Bucs’ signing of beastly edge rusher Haason Reddick.

After ex-players and panelists Dan Orlovsky and Louis Riddick praised the signing, the chatter moved back to Fowler.

“They were in on Khalil Mack a little bit,” Fowler said of the Bucs’ free agency approach at edge rusher. “They were looking high-end. This is more that next tier, Reddick.”

“I was talking to the Jets coaches, they felt like [Reddick’s] play hadn’t dropped off, he just missed all [2024] offseason.

Hmmm, so the Bucs were looking “high end.”

Per Riddick, the Bucs may have found high-end if Reddick is the guy he was two seasons ago. “At his height, there was nobody better,” he said.

  1. Aqualung Says:

What if……..what if Reddick is allowed to actually rush the quarterback? Imagine what could happen.

  2. Teacherman Says:

This is an amazing signing. I’m in shock.

    Simeon Rice. JPP. Shaq Barrett.

    Could Reddick be the next?

I also hope we sign Barrett. He’s a glue guy.

  3. Todd Says:

    Aqualung—

Stop. That kind of thinking will totally screw up our genius drop-back coverage. If Reddick doesn’t have at least as many pass defenses as Dean, well, we’re just not executing.

Actual pass rush will fool no one.

So come on. Get with the program.

  4. Saskbucs Says:

I think this will turn out fine for all the reasons already mentioned.

Prove it deal so he will be hungry. Missed camp and bunch of time, likely didn’t care for the Jets circus so wasn’t fully invested.

Complete 180 for him coming to a real professional franchise without a bunch of front office and QB drama.

Let him rush and if we end up drafting an ILB that can read and cover well, send Lavonte blitzing regularly! Let him pump his stats for his HoF case.

  5. Hodad Says:

Even if all he does is rush the passer he’ll still get more picks then Dean!

  6. Pickgrin Says:

    For $14M – he better have something….

  7. Nicholas Carlson Says:

Key here is maybe Reddick is still a 10 or 11 sack guy. But he’s almost certainly a 6 to 8 sack guy, and that’s a big contribution.

$14 million is not much for the position…good sack guys are about to all get $30mm+

  9. Fred McNeil Says:

I’m going to reserve my excitement till I see him actually play.

  10. Lightningvinny Says:

Could he be worse than JTS ,,, really put JTS on special teams cause he runs fast

  11. Bobby M. Says:

I think he’s a great signing in that he’s a proven pass rusher AND he’s shooting for one more pay day. I would like to see Shaq brough back, he knows the system is at worst still better than JTS and possibly Nelson. Hopefully we draft a pass rusher high…..i feel like we can find a LB in rounds 2-4 that would be sufficient but we have to improve our pass rush. Blitzing all the time is like shooting 3’s in b-ball. Effective when they are dropping but if you’re off, you’ll be playing from behind.

  12. Cobraboy Says:

Yeah, but how is he dropping back into coverage?

    Any news on Anthony Nelson?

  13. Jmarkbuc Says:

I’ve never heard anyone say Joggin Joe Tryon runs fast.

  14. Truth be Told Says:

Now a LB and Secondary help piece each and we are ready for the Draft!!

  15. My Momma Says:

Put JTS at ILB next to LVD. Bowles will have him cover, and blitz. It’ll confuse the heck out of the opponent and our team.

  16. Marine Buc Says:

    I really like this signing.

If Reddick wants more money he will need to earn it.

It’s the old “carrot and the stick” analogy.

Plus – the Bucs will still be drafting an edge rusher in the draft and this move will give the Bucs at least one season to (hopefully) develop the new guy.

It’s a win/win situation and if Reddick doesn’t pan out it won’t cost us a boatload of dead cap money in 2026 and beyond.

  17. Tbbucs3 Says:

JTS to the Browns…Bucs have to fill a void to fill on defense for a new “fan punching bag”

  18. ThatAintRight! Says:

JTS LMAO , he’s gone and he couldn’t cover anyone if I had to bet.

Gholston , JTS, and Anthony Nelson are all gone and none of which will probably be back in Tampa Bay next season if I had to guess.
You know I actually thought Anthony Nelson could be a breakout player at OLB for some team. A little more speed and he’s right there as a DD sack artist. I think he can if he goes to like Pittsburgh or Miami or something. He’s got some talent and the tools for sure. Maybe Denver can use him.

  19. FastLane Says:

Reddick will get the job done

  20. Tellitlikeitis Says:

    Joe’s

Pump the brakes, your expectations are so high perceptions will never catch up !!!

  21. FilthyAnimal Says:

He’s not over the hill, so there’s no reason to think he can’t return to his previous pass rush production, given an entire offseason to get into the playbook and work into his role. Add in the motivation of a one-year prove-it deal, and this move could end up bringing huge rewards. And the risks are not that high other than a few Glazerbucks.

  22. Fan of the South Says:

Aaron Glenn the D.C. at the Lions finished third in Assistant Coach of the Year behind Ben Johnson and Brian Flores.
Now the H.C, of the Jets and Glenn didn’t fight for him? With a QB that he knew at the Combine (you know he did) was only going to cost the team 10 million the next two years? It wasn’t money.

Perhaps it wasn’t so much his ability as it was the Character Glenn is expecting based on the Lions approach.

Although I have noticed that Guys on prove it deals seem to come in with a case of Chap Stick and immediately start Sucking up.

Bucs made it through a year with Antonio Brown so maybe it will work out.

  23. Beeej Says:

I find it intriguing that they were looking at Mack also, which means they’re only wanting a one-year placeholder, They either think Braswell will come on or they’re going to draft somebody this year who will get the job done

  24. Redzone Says:

BREAKING; Hassan Reddick’s choice of the Bucs came down to wanting to develop the pass coverage element to his game

  25. PowerOfPewter Says:

IDK which Reddick the Bucs will get… the one who averaged 2 sacks/yr for 4 years, or the one who averaged 12 sacks/yr for the other 4? If he was a 12 sack player, why have 3 teams in the past 4 years given up on him (not to mention his original team, ARI)? He might work out, he might not (though probably not a Randy Gregory train wreck), but I think the Bucs still need to go Edge in Round 1 of draft. If Reddick does play well, Bucs likely can’t afford to keep him and it would be good to have a young player ready to step up.

  26. DBS Says:

At least JTS got interest and a job. Brady didn’t want Trask . His ,name isn’t being mentioned for Pittsburgh or anywhere else.

  27. Macdanny Says:

    JTS to the Browns.

  28. buc4evr Says:

Still would like to get another Vet edge. Maybe Bosa if we can get him cheap?

  29. Mike C Says:

Smh, these comments are just next level in the off-season

  30. Jerseybuc Says:

Guy is a hunter and he will thrive under Bowles. Jets were dysfunction Junction last year, and by the time Reddick got there it was too late to make an impact
Unlike the move as long as his head is on straight. One year contract helps his motivation.

  31. Aqualung Says:

Todd. You are right on. SHame on me. I got carried away. I’m sure we signed him because he’s demonstrated superior skills dropping into empty zones where a would-be pass catcher is at least 10 yards away from him. I’ll never learn.

  32. Travis Says:

I believe Reddick can get us 8-10 sacks and I still have hope for Braswell he’s only going into his second year. I wish we added some LB help that’s the other position where we were hurting bad after Dennis went down.

  33. BuccaDAWG Says:

Good call Joe, you mentioned Reddick several times

  34. Erik w/ Pilot & Driver.™ Experience the Art of Motion.™ Says:

    Seriously, though.

CAN HE COVER A RB IN THE FLAT???

Because that’s the one main play that lost us our final playoff game, in my view.

When Diaby got beat by the RB on a flat route to the edge on that critical 3rd down late in the game.

Hopefully, we stop doing that somuch.
