Robert Hainsey Gets Paid In Jacksonville

March 10th, 2025

Tristan Wirfs called this four weeks ago.

Bucs center Robert Hainsey is outta here.

Today, per NFL Network, Hainsey signed a three-year deal for $21 million to play center for Jacksonville.

What a whopper of a contract for a guy who made one start last season — one in which he kicked ass for the Bucs in a blowout of the slimy Saints.

Hainsey was the Bucs late-third-round pick in 2021. He rode the bench and then was pressed into action in the summer of 2022 after Ryan Jensen’s gruesome knee injury in training camp. Hainsey started for two seasons (never missed a game) and then was back on the bench after the Bucs drafted Graham Barton last season.

A team-first Buccaneer, Hainsey, 26, now gets a chance to show what he can do for new Jags head coach Liam “El Serpiente” Coen, the 2024 Bucs playcaller.

Good luck, Rob!

As for the Bucs and backup center, right now they don’t have one, though left guard Ben Bredeson made starts there for the Giants.

    Good for Hainsey. Great guy.

So, Carolina our farm team and Jax our backups lol

  2. chark Says:

Good luck to him. Seems like a great guy, versatile, smart but Barton definitely was an upgrade. Hainsey just doesnt have the mass, great as a 6th lineman.

    ^^^^^^^

LOL. You know they’re both mad about Godwin re-signing.

  4. OHBucFan Says:

Future coach. Be interesting to see how their line performs next year.

  5. FilthyAnimal Says:

    Verbs are good.

  6. Jeff Says:

Light’s biggest mistake so far this offseason. This guy does it all.

  7. Tbbucs3 Says:

The Jags are going to be laughably bad next year

  8. Aqualung Says:

    Can’t keep everyone.

    Now re-sign Bryce Hall.

  9. Simeon4HOF Says:

    @SlyPirate

Lmao. Yes Sir, both of em fire hot. Specially El serpiente

  10. Mike Johnson Says:

Good luck dude. Thanks for your service with the Bucs.

  11. FilthyAnimal Says:

I think it’s funny that J03 says “hell no” to censorship, and then shuts down that same thread when he doesn’t like what other responses appear. See the irony? 🙂

  12. Saskbucs Says:

Tough to call it a mistake Jeff when Hainsey wanted to move on and for good reason. More money and a better chance to play. No brainer for Hainsey and I wish him luck.

You know who I would like brought in to rotate on the DL if he’s not expensive… Calais Campbell. Guy always produces and clearly has a love for the game.

  13. FrontFour Says:

    Good for Hainsey.

  14. Tbbucs3 Says:

Coen and their 17 year old GM got rid of all their players….the “genius” who most fans wanted to run Bowles out of town for is going to be leading a 3-14 football team next year.

  15. CalBucsFan Says:

Hate to see him go, but best of luck to him. I have no doubt GM Licht will find a solid replacement. Today’s a beautiful day in Bucs land!

  16. Jeffs grandpa Says:

Put Grandmas phone back and clean that pig pen you call a room boy

  17. Lt. Dan Says:

I think Klien was crossed trained at center last year during training camp and the “very important” preseason games.

  18. LongSeason Says:

    Makes sense.
Hainsey was best pick in 2021 draft.
    The rest was meh.

  19. teacherman Says:

Can we get a compensation pick for this?

  20. #99 the big fella Says:

Jeff, with another stupid comment. You are good for at least one a day.

  21. SlyPirate Says:

BUCS ONLY NFCS TEAM GETTING BETTER

Carolina is losing out on their FA targets. Saints are in cap hell and getting worse. Atlanta is making cuts, not additions.

    NFCS Championship #5 loading …

(Record Watch: No NFCS teams has ever won 5 in a row)

  22. ocala Says:

Liam Coen may have burned a bridge on his way out of Tampa, but he is an offensive genius. I think the Jags biggest problem is their QB does not have “it”

  23. BucsBucsBucs!! Says:

Bucs are looking Better and Better this off-season.
    Godwin!! Reddick!!! Bredeson!!!
looking for CBs and a LB.
Would love to sign Minshew as a backup QB
    GO BUCS!!

  24. Bojim Says:

Would’ve liked to have him back but he’s got a good gig.

  25. Jmarkbuc Says:

Bredeson ability to back up at center.. maybe why he got such a big contract?

  26. Todd Bowls Says:

Some of the money in brederson’s big contract is to have him as an emergency backup center IMO

  27. Fred McNeil Says:

Good luck, Hainsey. I wish it was with a better team, tho. Maybe the Jags will do better this year.

  28. Aqualung Says:

There’s some good small college OL talent. Jason knows them. We can get center depth in the later rounds thanks to Jason’s surveillance activities.

  29. Bucs Guy Says:

Go get Ward for 3 years and/or Greenlaw on a prove it deal from SF!! If Greenlaw or Riddick ball out you can re-sign them next year when you have more money after LVD retires.

This also provides flexibility to build the defensive depth in this year’s depth at Edge, ILB, CB, DT and S. All in this year for SB XL!!

Light’s biggest mistake so far this offseason. This guy does it all.

In addition to basically useless comments, this guy still hasn’t figured out that it’s spelled L-I-C-H-T.

  31. KABucs Says:

We aren’t going to pay a back up O-lineman that kind of $$, especially with more players to sign, like another good corner/edge rusher in FA. 🤞🤞🤞

Good luck to him protecting Goldilocks.

  32. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Should have traded him last year….so now we get nothing. And he’ll no, we can’t keep $7mil backups.

  33. Tom in MadCity Says:

Happy for Hainsey. Strike while the iron is hot.

  34. Stanglassman Says:

Jeff thinks the Bucs should bench Graham Barton? Hainsey wanted to go elsewhere to start. He wouldn’t have signed with the Bucs even if they paid him 7 million a year to be their backup center.

  35. buc4evr Says:

Hope it frees up enough cap to help get a veteran CB and maybe a second veteran Edge or a MLB. This year needs to be about defense.

  36. gp Says:

    @FilthyAnimal
If you post something that can get Joe fined or sued he has little choice but to shut it down.
It’s not on him, it’s on you.
    Think before you submit.

  37. Bucs Guy Says:

Ward signing with Colts per PFT. Go get Greenlaw.

  38. Cobraboy Says:

    So long, farewell, adieu.

    Not a big loss.

And expected. I doubt the Bucs tendered any iffer.

  39. Pickgrin Says:

Bucs could get a 5th or 6th round comp pick for this signing if Licht plays his cards right.

  40. Badbucs Says:

Good luck Etienne. We will gift you the Hainsey butt blocking sled. You’ll need it. You’ll get plenty of practice.

  41. Tbbucs3 Says:

Liam Coen is not an “offensive genius”….he had a fanastic roster to work with

Geniuses dont call jets sweeps to rookies and try to make the defense jump offsides on 3rd and inches late in a playoff game

  42. HC Grover Says:

    Good for him….Big bucs.

  43. Simeon4HOF Says:

I feel bad for staring to turn on Licht ..
Their smokescreen game past couple weeks was clean … talking bout drafting a receiver, iffy on Chris and his value, sounding like no big deal, etc. Nice work
And I feel bad for getting xtra mad at Todd when Chris got hurt, 4give him too 2day lol. Long as Hall don’t hurt him in camp, we good lol.
    I am humbled, mb
We are stocking our Edge so Bowles getting weapons, his D should be back to what beat the Chiefs.
In Licht I still trust. Was just lil xtra say motivation if he needed it was really all. He wasn’t fing around today, not one bit.

Offense loaded. Defense foundation set. Fix CB1 and ILB and depth away. LFG

  44. Simeon4HOF Says:

Today was awesome for Bucs. And we still got King David

  45. Vanessa Anne Says:

    This is a bummer.

Although, I totally understand why Robert left.

Apparently, he was the epitome of a team player this year, taking Graham under his wing, never complaining and putting in 100% max effort.

And he did it knowing Graham was drafted to replace him.

I have a lot of respect for the guy.

I wish him the best in Jacksonville. (Unless we’re playing them, of course).

That wasn’t the issue. The thread (in which J03 protested Bluesky because of “censorship”) was then censored. The irony should not be lost on anyone.

  47. Bucs Guy Says:

Greenlaw looking at $6M per year with Broncos, Packers and Falcons per rumors. Come on JL, you can afford that. Give his agent a call.

  48. Hodad Says:

Good move by Coen. Really helps installing a new offense when you have a super smart center who know’s the offense like the back of his hand. Wonder if Coen made a run at Godwin?

  49. gp Says:

    @FilthyAnimal
No, it wasn’t censored, it was shut down to protect the innocent(?).
    Big difference.

You (obviously) wanted to make a political statement.
Because one of the (Joes) deemed it over the top for “HIS” site, you cry censorship.
It might not have even been your comment that got it shut down.

Stick to football issues, which you seem to do well with, and you probably won’t have any more censorship complaints.

  50. FilthyAnimal Says:

@gp, I wasn’t complaining about censorsh!p, just pointing out the irony. I’m not opposed to a platform making business decisions about community content.

  51. Scott Says:

He should be a big upgrade for them

  52. Badbucs Says:

So we upgrade Hainsey by attrition but unfortunately kept sluggo Brederson. Can’t win them all.

  53. Rod Munch Says:

Would have loved to keep him, he’s a guy who can play anywhere on the line. Also, he was a better center than most people here think, and if he played guard, I think he’d have done very very well. But that’s more money than the Bucs can pay, so good for him.

  54. Hammerhead Says:

    What if?
Had the bucs decided to keep Hainsey for the long haul who could they have drafted instead?

  55. Rastaferian Jenkins Says:

Klein is the new backup guard. Draft another G/C in the 5th or 6th for depth

  56. Saskbucs Says:

SlyPirate… I somewhat agree but I think the Panthers are getting better. Last year they attacked the OL and this offseason are attacking the DL. Signed 3 big boys up front.

Very likely they draft an edge at #8 and that front is completely transformed from a year ago. If they don’t draft an edge I see it being a weapon like McMillan or Warren.

  57. Bucs Guy Says:

Wow!! Greenlaw signing with Denver fir 3 yes at $36M. Too rich for the Bucs.

  58. Bucs Guy Says:

That’s what happens when you have $36M in dead cap money. Only dead cap money next year is $13M to Evans and $450K to Gaines. Getting better.

  59. unbelievable Says:

I’ve been critical of Hainsey, deservedly so, but to be fair to him – the game he started last season for us he was great and our run game was unstoppable.

Maybe Coen knew how to get more out of him than Leftwich / Canales did?

  60. Marine Buc Says:

Sorry to burst some of your little bubbles but:

    HAINSEY SUCKED!!!!!

He had two years to start and prove himself and he was the worst starting Center in the NFL both years.

Hainsey was so good we had to spend a 1st round pick to replace him.

The Jags are run by a group of morons.

I honestly don’t give two squats how “nice of a guy” he was.

    Good grief.

  61. BucVoyager Says:

    Yes he sucked.

People seem to forget the times when he was trucked into the backfield right into the QB. There’s a reason we went with a center so early in the draft.

  62. LUVMYBUCS Says:

Potential Addition: NT/DT Dalvin Tomlinson (31)

Dalvin Tomlinson’s release by Cleveland opens a door for depth along the defensive front. At 6’3”, 325 lbs, he’s been a durable, reliable presence—playing 123 career games with 168 solo tackles, 19 sacks, and a solid PFF run defense grade of 64.2 in 2024.

This defense has THRIVED with a strong rotation, keeping fresh legs in the trenches. If Licht and Tomlinson can strike a fair deal, his presence could reinforce the interior and maintain the standard of toughness we’ve built upfront.

  63. LUVMYBUCS Says:

Potential Addition: Slot Corner Mike Hilton (31)

Mike Hilton has established himself as one of the NFL’s premier slot corners, tallying 520 tackles, 11.5 sacks, 13 interceptions, and 56 pass deflections over his career. His aggressive, high-IQ playstyle aligns perfectly with Todd Bowles’ defense, where the nickel cornerback is a key chess piece—tasked with covering, blitzing, and providing run support.

With Tyreek Smith potentially transitioning to safety, adding a proven nickel like Hilton would enhance the secondary’s versatility and ensure Bowles can maintain his complex, attack-minded scheme. If the terms are right, Hilton’s experience and physicality could be a game-changer

  64. LUVMYBUCS Says:

Potential Addition: Slot Receiver Tyler Boyd (30)

Tyler Boyd has been a model of consistency, with 552 receptions, 6,390 yards, and 31 touchdowns over nine seasons. A polished route-runner with strong hands, he excelled in Cincinnati as a dependable chain-mover, including back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons in 2018 and 2019.

With Gizzard taking over as OC and Chris Godwin’s recovery timeline uncertain, adding a proven slot receiver like Boyd could provide stability in the passing game. His ability to find soft spots in coverage and make tough catches in traffic would give the quarterback a reliable security blanket, keeping the offense on schedule—if the deal makes sense.

  65. LUVMYBUCS Says:

Potential Addition: TE Tyler Conklin (29)

Tyler Conklin is a dependable, no-nonsense tight end who’s produced steadily over seven seasons—263 catches, 2,544 yards, and 11 touchdowns. He’s not flashy, but he does the job. Reliable hands, solid route running, and enough physicality to be effective in both the passing game and run blocking.

With Gizzard implementing his system, Conklin’s versatility fits the blueprint. He can move the chains, hold his own in protection, and bring a workmanlike presence to the offense. Conklin’s a plug-and-play addition that can strengthen our TE room

  66. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    Correction: Tykee Smith

  67. Tbbucs3 Says:

LOVE the idea of going after Kyle Juszczyk

Bring in a versatile fullback to help lead blocking and bring power short yardage runs….

Ive so longed for the Bucs to bring back a thumper like Alstot or Legarrete Blount to the RB room….This guy could fit it very nicely to the RB room and makes Grizzards job ALOT easier.

  68. FilthyAnimal Says:

    LUVMYBUCS Says:
    March 10th, 2025 at 10:13 pm

Potential Addition: TE Tyler Conklin (29)

    Why?
    * Otton is a better than average TE on a rookie contract. Also, still developing.
    * Durham is on a rookie contract. Cheap, big catch ability, developing as a blocker.
    * Culp is a fast receiving TE who also showed development as a blocker last year. Also on a rookie contract.

So why would we add a journeyman TE to the room for a price that would probably be the sum of Otton+Durham+Culp? Why would you take reps from young developing players for a veteran without upside at a higher price? Makes zero sense.

If he came cheap and the roster projection is to keep 4 TEs this year, then maybe… Frankly, the only thing that’s gonna make this room significantly better is to acquire a star TE… And there are a couple of those in the first round.

  69. Tbbucs3 Says:

I cant think of any team thats been worse on 3rd and short the past decade than the Bucs…go get the NFL’s best fullback and problem solved

  70. Drunkinybor Says:

Sainys reach multi year deal with DE Chase Young…Food Solidified GO Bucs!!

  71. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    FilthyAnimal:

I get the focus on young talent, but this team is in win-now mode. Betting only on potential carries risk—especially at a position where depth matters.

    Experience:

Tyler Conklin: 263 receptions, 2,544 yards, 11 TDs over seven seasons. Proven pass-catcher and blocker.

Devin Culp: 5 receptions, 88 yards as a rookie. Intriguing upside, but unproven.

Why Conklin? If Otton goes down again or Evans gets banged up, Mayfield needs a reliable big target in key situations. Conklin provides security and veteran presence without stalling Culp’s development. If the price is right, he makes sense for a Super Bowl push.

The Bucs dont have legimate goalline/short yardage back….Coen tried using Bucky in the redzone last year he just doesnt have the size to run through defenders yet.

I think it might be a dead position- Kyle’s greatest skill is ruining fantasy days for McCaffrey managers lol

Umm Love it for the big man!

Hate it a whole truck load for us! Dang it! I was hoping we could somehow keep him. Class dude and he can play regardless of what some folks think.

Hate it even more that he went to the SOBs in the cesspool.

    Go Bucs!

  81. IE Buc Says:

Hainsey was a serviceable center who can play there in a pinch, but his best position could have been RG. A legitimate NFL starter at RG. He was just never moved there full time to see how good he could be.

  82. BuckyBuc Says:

    Good for him.

  83. Bucsfan Says:

Hainsey will get to show if he has improved by contributing in J ville-Good for him and his agent who did a great sales job, Jville overpaid unless Hainsey improves-time will tell.

  84. Aqualung Says:

I’m with the Animal. Especially since we were best in the league at 3rd down conversions from all distances, no need to create some third and short false drama. With the Bucs OL, the OC and Baker need to be smart about what they call and not try all the cutesie crap. The 3rd and short failure against the Redskins in the playoffs was a combination of cutesie and slop. The slop is a result of lackadaisical attention to detail, which is a reflection of the coach,
