A Bucs Re-Signing And A Long List Of Pending Bucs Free Agents

March 10th, 2025

He’s back.

The shrimp tacos and tots from Hooters arrive to JoeBucsFan.com world headquarters at 11:40 a.m. Joe is so fired up for the start of free agency at noon!

And as founder and overall guru of ProFootballTalk.com Mike Florio noted this morning, free agency really started over the weekend.

The Bucs have a long list of in-house, unrestricted free agents, guys the team is free to re-sign at any time.

Bucs sacks king Shaq Barrett
Kyle Trask
Justin Skule
Joe Tryon-Shoyinka
Left guard Ben Bredeson
Anthony Nelson
K.J. Britt
Chase Edmonds
Will Gholston
Chris Godwin
Sterling Shepard
Tavierre Thomas
Mike Edwards
Greg Gaines
Robert Hainsey
Bryce Hall
Troy Hill
Ryan Neal
Eric Banks
Royce Newman
Sua Opeta

But Joe will forget about them for a moment and focus on returning safety Kaevon Merriweather. Yes, per FOX Sports, the Bucs have made a deal to bring him back for 2025.

Todd Bowles seems mesmerized by Merriweather’s transformation.

Merriweather was cut during last season and signed onto the Lions’ practice squad. Then the Bucs brought him back two weeks later and he looked like a very different player.

“Since the second half of the season when we got [Merriweather] back, he’s probably one of the smartest and most cerebral guys we have back there,” Bowles told the Buccaneers Radio Network. “The last couple of weeks of the season, he really carved out a niche for himself and [was] very consistent. I was very happy and very proud of the way he came back and played. He played like he was a 10-year vet.”

Merriweather heading to Detroit and returning transformed is probably a coincidence the short amount of time he was there, but it does make Joe wonder what the future might hold for Joe Tryon-Shoyinka, who Joe hopes has a new team later this month.

I agree Joe. JTS is a bust.

  2. Aqualung Says:

Aaron Glenn knows how to teach DBs how to cover. He’s also improved C Davis.

Todd? Not so much. His guys just regress. Winfield. Dean. Whitehead. Edwards. But he’s back in the lab to fix it. Let’s see the results.

  3. Bucs Guy Says:

PFT reporting Khalil Mack is staying with the Chargers. If the Bucs don’t trade for Hendrickson, they may be in the same boat as last year with no proven big name and producing Edge rushers. Sorry Joe, you better make an appointment with your doctor as your blood pressure may continue to rise.

    Bredeson is back

Warren Sapp is the Sack King of the Bucs.

Love Shaq, but don’t disrespect a man who’s done it more than anyone ever … that’s the king … that’s Sapp.

  6. SB Says:

    Yup Bredeson is back

  7. Seanbuc76 Says:

Mack just signed a 18 mil one year deal to stay in LA… Mack gone, Landry gone… JASON LICHT WHAT ARE YOU DOING?

  8. Defense Rules Says:

One of the mock drafts has the Bucs trading for Trey Henrickson during the draft, giving up our 3rd Rnd pick. While anything’s possible, I have trouble seeing JL going that route. That same mock draft though has us picking Georgia edge rusher Mykel Williams with our Rnd 1 selection (6’5″, 270 lbs, 4.70 sec 40). Kinda doubt though that he’ll last until pick #19.

    Mack is gone….welp.

    Hendrickson or bust.

Warren Sapp is the Sack King of the Bucs.

Love Shaq, but don’t disrespect a man who’s done it more than anyone ever … that’s the king … that’s Sapp.

Sapp wasn’t even the best QB sacker on his own defensive line. Consider this:

Sapp had 77 sacks in 140 games (.55 per game)

Simeon Rice had 69.5 in 87 games (.79 per game)

Shaq? Somewhere between the two. 45 in 71 games (.63 per game)

For my money, Simeon Rice is Bucs sack king. He may not have had as many as Sapp, but that’s only because he wasn’t here as long. One more season in pewter and he’d have overtaken Sapp, and done it in 37 fewer games.

I swear Joe, If we bring back JTS…….Man, Its time for Bowles luv project to pack bags.

  12. Jack Burton Mercer Says:

If JTS had been a 6th round pick, people would be saying, hey bring him back at the right price. But since he’s a first rounder (what were you thinking Jason?) he’s got to go.

  13. Eckwood Says:

If JTS was a sixth round pick , he wouldn’t have EVER made an NFL roster !!

  14. Brandonbucc Says:

Build through the draft. These edge rusher free agents are over priced
