A Peek Into Luke Goedeke’s Financial Future

March 10th, 2025

With the glorious free agency siren about to wail at noon today, Joe’s thinking a lot about Team Glazer loot.

Of course, Joe remains somewhat obsessed with Graham Barton’s comments about a Luke Goedeke contract extension. So the new deal for old-man Falcons left tackle Jake Matthews had Joe’s interest.

NFL Network reported yesterday that Matthews got a two-year, $45 million extension. Keep in mind Matthews is good but not great and is 33 years old, and he’s playing for a team that hasn’t had a special offense since 2018.

So what will Goedeke be worth as a beastly young right tackle? When this season ends, his contract will be up and he will have just turned 27.

Joe thinks what the Bucs do for pending free agent left guard Ben Bredeson, 27, will say a lot about how committed they are to keeping their ferocious offensive line together.

Joe expects a Bredeson deal to pop in a matter of hours. Hopefully it’s not Jim Harbaugh signing his former player, or the Vegas Bradys swooping in.

Whatever makes it work, he’s been great for us last two years back at RT.

Pay the FA dollars for edge rushers or difference makers. Draft OL, WR, CB. Only pay the best the best money.

Tick tock, tick tock, free agency is around the clock. Run mickey run. Get to noon and let’s see what happens.

Oh yeah, would like to keep Bredeson but in Licht we trust, especially on the O line.

I’d hate to loose Bredeson. As the Joe’s have pointed out, he was part of a much, much improved OL last year. No need to jettison him because he’s perceived to be the “weak link” on a stellar offensive line. I am however very curious about Kleins development since he was drafted. You know, an entire off season in an NFL weight room.

    In Greenberg we trust!

  5. Hawk Says:

Is it really apples to apples to compare a left tackles’ (Matthews) market value to that of a right tackle (Goedeke)?

  6. Defense Rules Says:

Bucs have a top-performing OLine, and they’ll get paid as top-performers … either by the Bucs or by someone else. Wirfs has already gotten his $$$. Goedeke is next, and he’ll do very well. When Barton’s time comes, so will he. Bredeson & Mauch will be the low $$$ on the totem pole.

Mathews is a right tackle protecting a left handed QB!
