Flexible Leader Baker Mayfield
March 2nd, 2025Baker Mayfield is not a one-size-fits-all kind of guy.
Heck, one day he’s hammering skinny margaritas and the next day it’s old school American beer.
Mayfield is diverse as a leader, too, as head coach Todd Bowles explained during his 1-on-1 chat with Josina Anderson at the NFL Scouting Combine last week.
“I think he handles them all differently depending on what they need and what they do, which is very bright on his part,” Bowles said of his franchise quarterback. Obviously, he’s been through some things in this league; he’s got some experience now. He can lead by putting his arm around you. He can lead by yelling at you. He can lead by example. He can lead by just sitting down at the cafeteria talking to you, so he has a lot of ways to lead and understands the guys very well. And he makes sure everybody’s ingratiated on the team and comes together the right way.”
Mayfield, his bargain salary and the Bucs’ high-octane offense are huge reasons Joe thinks the Bucs should be in win-now mode.

Bucs have a 1-2 year window for “Win-Now” moves. With David thinking about retirement, Evans on a short deal and Mayfield still considered a bargain…Now is the time to roll dice on one more SB or Bust push.

We’ve got the right QB, i knew it when i pushed for him.

We just have to hope Baker is OK with being underpaid another season. It’s pretty extreme. Winfield and Wirfs got their bag. It’s unfair that Baker is one of the few making the sacrifice. I hope he doesn’t develop a tude.

Badbucs: he’s still THE highest paid player on the team.

20 mill a year left on the table. You have to give Baker his due for being team first. That’s a lot of jack.

The money will come, trust me.

Then there’s the way he plays. Fearless. Even reckless with his body at times. The trucking of Bobby Wagner should have been the key play in the win. It’s a shame Todd went totally coward in the playoff loss and opted for the FG when his “defense” hadn’t forced a punt all day. Nor in any game during crunch time. He was hoping for a miracle. As all the great ones do.

Yup. If he has year similar to last year, they will extend him before the 2027 season.

Baker isn’t playing with flexibility he is playing with desperation, consider how his career has gone, he has to win therefore he plays reckless at times and that is going to be good or bad considering the situation of the game. Unfortunately the last 2 years it is bad when the game is in the bucs reach he threw an interception and fumbles the ball, you can put the blame on other players or coaches but the truth is he is the field general.

It’s too bad Baker never played for BA.

He is some forced throws away from being elite – he presses sometimes but he also has guts and elusiveness you do t expect him to have.
I am very glad we have him at the price we do

===================================
You don’t know what you are talking about. Nothing wrong with Baker’s career except playing for the worst franchise in the NFL in Cleveland. Baker’s 7 full year stats, even with the Browns dead end, compare favorably with any QB, including Brady, first full 7 years. If you think QB’s win games by themselves, you are again wrong. Football is the ultimate team game. There are 53 players on an NFL roster for a reason.

Baker is going to be with Bucs for at least 7 more years. The biggest money will come along with league MVP and Super Bowl victories. Doubt it? Review how Baker and Bucs handled Eagles in 2024.
What Baker and the offense need now is a DEFENSE. Licht will make a great leap this year fixing that mess.

I like the way you think. Finding a positive poster on this site is always refreshing!

In the first place Mayfield IS the main reason we are even playing in the playoffs. If you want to blame him for the fumble that’s fine but by doing so it only shows your ignorance of football, that’s all. The field general can’t stop a play and say hey you are running too deep, I can’t reach you in the amount of time I have from the snap. That is on the player running too deep. A rookie in this case. But he did the field general thing after the play and took it on himself in order to keep the team together instead of pointing the finger and dividing the team. THAT IS A MATURE TRUE LEADER.

I’ll be more than satisfied if Baker just waits until next off season to hit us up for the big money. There will be no denying it then. Probably 55 to 60.
