Don’t Get Depressed, Bucs Fans
September 30th, 2010Allow Joe to offer Bucs fans a virtual dose of Zoloft.
Ross Tucker, speaking on Sirius NFL Radio this morning, as he co-hosted “The Opening Drive” with Bob Papa, suggested the Bucs may not be a bad team at all.
Despite the fact the Bucs are 2-1, many Bucs fans are licking their wounds after the beatdown administered by the Steelers last week.
Tucker wonders whether such thought is valid. He pointed out that of the three Steelers opponents this year, they are all 2-1, that the only loss the three teams that played the Steelers suffered were to the Steelers.
That’s right, the Falcons, Titans and Bucs are all 2-1, each becoming roadkill for the Steelers.
So, in a manner of speaking, the Bucs, in Tucker’s eyes, are no worse than the Falcons or Titans.

“So, in a manner of speaking, the Bucs, in Tucker’s eyes, are no worse than the Falcons or Titans.” No worse, true. But, I’m just not sure they are better than Falcons or Titans right now!

I don’t think there is any way to tell how good or bad this team is yet. They beat two teams that most agree they should have beaten and they got beat by a team that most agreed should have beat them.
After the Steelers game all we know is that they probably aren’t ready to be considered a playoff team but we still don’t really have a large enough sample size to say just how far off they are.
The Cinci game will go a long way to settle this discussion. If they lay an egg up there then they’re probably not very good. If they win or even play a good game and come up a little short then maybe they arent so bad.
In either case they are still on track to win the 6 or 7 games that most people thought they would.

So D-money, are you sayyin “They are who we thought they were”! What coach was that again, Reed maybe?
September 30th, 2010 at 1:08 pm
I could go for some Zoloft right about now.
September 30th, 2010 at 1:21 pm
McBuc- the world famous Herm Edwards issued that clarifying statement! The point of the article is dead on. Our Bucs are better than we dared to expect this year! Buuut, they have a ways ta go to beat the best team in football! The best part of that is- we are getting better, with every game, with wvery practice! Bring on Benn, Blount, and Lumpkin! Let Freeman, Williams, McCoy, etc keep improving. Let’s add the last few pieces. Then, Mike Tomlin- well be sending you text messages that say” we’re coming”. And you can get the knot in your Stomach!!

Dennis Green
September 30th, 2010 at 1:26 pm
It was not Herm Edwards, it was Dennis Green.
September 30th, 2010 at 1:41 pm
Yeah it was Dennis Green.
Herm said “HELLO! YOU PLAY TO WIN THE GAME!!!”

Joe,
Safety Nate Allen from USF, drafted 2 spots behind Brian Price, was just named defensive rookie of the month.
In light of the playing time being given to Price so far, who could be helping this team more right now, Allen or Price?
I like Price, and I know Jackson’s suspension could not have been foreseen (or could it?), but it sure looks like they missed out on a surefire, homegrown contributer. Has to be considered a bit of a knock on what everyone has been heralding as a great draft for the current regime.

Jason,
With all due respect that is the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever read.
You can’t compare what two players who play different positions that require a completely different learning curve after three games.
I guess we should have drafted Javid Best instead of Gerald Mccoy.
While after 3 weeks both of those guys have had more impact than our two guys it is waaaay to early to say that those guys are going to be NFL players in the long run.
September 30th, 2010 at 2:03 pm
Jason:
Joe generally doesn’t like “homegrown” folks because, more often than not, they are overrated by the hometown crowd.
The Bucs desperately needed help on the defensive front and on Dominik’s draft board Price was a mid-to-late first round pick. Price has been slowed by a sore hammy and when he has played he’s done well. Joe can’t fault Dominik for the pick whatsoever.
September 30th, 2010 at 2:04 pm
should have read….
“…better NFL players in the long run.”
September 30th, 2010 at 2:09 pm
I agree with you in regard to the long term impact, waaay too early to tell.
But you can’t tell me if they went Allen instead of Price, we wouldn’t be a better team RIGHT NOW. We’ve barely got 1 safety that has shown NFL-level talent so far in their career.
September 30th, 2010 at 2:12 pm
You’re probably right.
Although if anyone could have forseen the Tanard situation I believe they would have most likely drafted Eric Berry.
September 30th, 2010 at 2:36 pm
Jason:
The Bucs aren’t playing for “RIGHT NOW” so it’s a mute point.
September 30th, 2010 at 3:22 pm
Not to mention, if I would of just guessed a different six numbers I would be typing this from some resort island instaed of my desk.
September 30th, 2010 at 3:22 pm
Joe,
I’m no english major but don’t you mean “moot”
September 30th, 2010 at 3:27 pm
d-money:
Yes, Joe’s bad.
September 30th, 2010 at 3:28 pm
Sorry Joe I couldn’t resist.
September 30th, 2010 at 3:31 pm
Dang and all this time I thought my tv remote had a mispelled moot button!
September 30th, 2010 at 6:08 pm
Pictured Dennis Green, Wrote Herm Edwards. Oh well. Was a great quote !!
September 30th, 2010 at 6:45 pm
I agree with Tucker. The Steelers were pretty badass.
September 30th, 2010 at 7:34 pm
I’m not saying the Bucs would have beaten the Steelers, BUT it would have been interesting if The defense didn’t gift wrap those two long passes by Batch. In a closer game, they probably would have run Blount between the tackles a lot more (along with other things). Hopefully lessons learned and we make Cinci earn their points.

“” That’s right, the Falcons, Titans and Bucs are all 2-1, each becoming roadkill for the Steelers. So, in a manner of speaking, the Bucs, in Tucker’s eyes, are no worse than the Falcons or Titans. “”
The Steelers scored 7 points on the Titans, and few on the Falcons, but 38 on Tampa!
Like Pete says, the game in Cincy will tell us a lot. Hopefully, The “B Train” Blount runs all over them, we keep their offense off the field, and win Ugly ?
