Power Broker Baker Mayfield

Bucs QB Baker Mayfield.
How powerful is Baker Mayfield at One Buc Palace?
His teammate gave candid insight.
“He’s top of the food chain, so he gets to help with the decisions and stuff,” Tristan Wirfs told WDAE radio.
The comment was in reference to his starting quarterback having a hand in picking his offensive coordinator. Wirfs’ comment came when he was relaying the story about how offensive linemen and Mayfield were vacationing when “El Serpiente,” Liam Coen, decided to stay in Tampa as offensive coordinator — and then decided to slither off to Jacksonville hours later hours later.
Wirfs strongly implied that Mayfield was upset by what transpired, and he noted Mayfield was busy in talks with with the decision-makers at One Buc Palace and has now had nine offensive coordinators.
Joe’s glad to hear Mayfield is being treated as “the man” at One Buc. His stature and influence surely will grow if he continues to play at an elite level.

Born with leadership skills. Some dudes have it, most do not. Yet another reason to proclaim my allegiance to the “Baker Boi” fan club. No idea what “Baker Boi “is supposed to imply, but I doubt it involves putting all of one’s fingers in their mouth as a way to fire-up their teammates before the big game. Thank God that idiot got run out of town.

1) Great to hear that Baker was with the OL on vacation. I’d heard that the line was together with their families but I didn’t know Baker was there. Most excellent.
2) The continuity with Grizzard had to have been blessed by Baker. That’s great news and maybe just maybe Baker will get two years with the same OC. Evolving year over year with the same substructure will be great.

OhBucsFan
I think Baker hosted the vacation, his *thank you for protecting me* gift.
Joe: Listen to that interview again. Tristan mentions that the phone call to the O-Line happened a day AFTER Liam signed it. *He called us the next day*. So, that timeline of it happening hours before was wrong.

I loved watching Baker play in his OU days. Glad to see him thriving at the next level.

I admit when the Bucs announced they were signing Mayfield, I was like what the hell is Bowles doing? It was simply because Mayfield had bounced around the league. Now, like him or not it seems like Bowles know what he’s doing just by taking a look at the players and coaching that he has brought in the past 2 years. Also to me and this is just my opinion, it a clear picture of what he want to build with this franchise. Yes I am aware Licht’s helping but still, I think Bowles is the main character

You sure that’s Baker in the photo? Looks different. Probably just me.

That’s what JL and TB want is for the players, starting with their QB, to be involved and held accountable for their success. With Mayfield and Evans and David and Wirfs they’ve got a competitive QB with unquestioned leadership abilities and three should be hall of famers with Super Bowl rings. Winfield should be on this list but availability is….Anyway, a bunch of great young players. Baker is no power broker, he’s just a player who wants a Super Bowl…Bad! This team has won for a good stretch of years and will be much better this year. LaVonte will stay to help with the new draftees and we’ll get Chris signed (hopefully). It’s the players.Notice no mention of rookies in this article? Or second year or third year players? The Power Brokers of this outfit don’t suit up on game day. But they do deserve alot of credit for making it look easy.
February 9th, 2025 at 12:11 pm
Power Broker? I have never seen or even heard of a career Sub.500 win Quarterback ,( or sub .500 career win Head Coach for that matter), ever being described as “Power Brokers”, but, Tampa Bay is “different”.

I wonder what Baker’s relationship is with Miles Garrett is? They were back to back #1s by the Browns.
February 9th, 2025 at 12:40 pm
Hopefully Bake can talk Jason into trading for Garrett. lol.
February 9th, 2025 at 1:20 pm
@SlyPirate
They got along well for the most part but in Bakers last year with the Browns the whole locker room drama did drive a bit of a wedge between them to the point that when Baker left the Browns he texted Garrett and Garrett just left him on read and didn’t reply.
But Garrett has made a few comments after Bakers departure from the Browns wishing him success and has commented a few times on his performance saying how much of a competitor and leader he is.

Of course he has the final say he is the greatest QB ever, the best QB drafted in his class, just ask Lamar Jackson or Josh Allen or Sam darnold
February 9th, 2025 at 2:55 pm
Mike, Sam Darnold hasn’t earned his spot in that class. The other 3 have at least 5 playoff appearances. Just because Baker is blowing the other two away in QBR in their playoff resumes doesn’t make him the greatest QB of that class.Yet.
February 9th, 2025 at 4:29 pm
Bakers. time in Tampa is not sub 500 QB ;% I don’t give a damn what he did elsewhere
February 9th, 2025 at 4:33 pm
Mike says I know it’s u David when u said best QB ever have that away & yes he is the greatest 1st QB drafted in his draft year & Heisman winner the same year Jackson is way over rated even baker has a better playoff record I think Lamar is a tinkerbell
February 9th, 2025 at 5:19 pm
Not sure who David is but I respect everyone’s opinion. He has had two solid years but when it’s do or die in the playoffs we fall short, not giving up on the team been there since day one and haven’t given up yet but I hope he proves me wrong, so far he hasn’t. Regular season is great stats personally for him but winning record average or just below but when it comes to the playoffs that’s when you see how you measure up against the best teams in the NFL, so far not so good.
February 9th, 2025 at 5:53 pm
looking at mike says, i am wondering since mike is such an expert if he can tell us how many a sub 500 players got his team to the playoffs and even into the division round, baker has been at least in the opening round 3 times to my count and nearly in the super bowl with the exception of a call that would have been targeting on any other team that led to a touch back
February 9th, 2025 at 6:34 pm
Well bill
I know he has only been with the team 2 years, and I hope he can lead the team to the super bowl because making the playoffs is great but you have to take the next step sooner than later how many years have we heard just wait until next year, the HC has lead the team to the playoffs and everyone is saying get rid of him. Baker has had 3 good years in his career and we can blame everyone else for his results but truth is he is the field general no one else, I hope he has turned the corner and becomes an elite NFL QB but we shall wait and see, only time will tell
February 9th, 2025 at 6:42 pm
You think his not so good record in the playoffs might have something to do with the fact that in the playoffs you are playing top talent and top level coaching and the teams Baker has been on are teams that were not really ready for that level of play. Cleveland is obvious they weren’t ready being 0-16 the year before Baker showed up and he took them to 11-5 and Tampa was supposed to win 4 games the year Baker took over at quarterback, 2023. And this year you had a rookie running a chancy play, jet sweep, and he was out of position on the hand-off. Next year the offense will be seasoned players and they will be ready for the playoffs. Hopefully, the defense will have been improved where it was lacking in 2024 and we will make a deep run into the playoffs.
February 9th, 2025 at 7:05 pm
Sub .500 huh??
If you don’t look at the whole picture of Cleveland being Cleveland then you don’t even belong in this conversation. Look at what it has done to Watsons career. He was the man while he was at Houston. When he went to Cleveland he was done. Cleveland ate him up. Cleveland is a joke and they will stay a joke until changes are made at the very top. Cleveland didnt eat Baker up he did unbelievably good for what he had to work with. They went 0-16 the year before Baker took over and in 3 years he had them ready for the superbowl.Think about it, that no call on the targeting play would have put them in the superbowl. Now that is saying something about the quaterback that led that team. Baker will get this team to the promised lane. It might be this next year or maybe the next, but he will get the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to the superbowl.

All Baker haters better learn how to respect
February 9th, 2025 at 7:31 pm
For all those that still aren’t on board with Baker, allow me to do a 2024 comparison between Baker & QBWho. Most stats are pretty straight forward but I will also include some contributing factors.
Wins – Advantage Baker
Wins v playoff teams – Advantage Baker
Harder Strength of Schedule – Advantage Baker (had harder SOS)
Touchdowns pre attempt – Advantage Baker
Interceptions per attempt – Advantage QBWho
Yards per Attempt – Advantage Baker
QBWho had a higher rated WR1 for 17 games, Baker had Evans for only 14 games.
QBWho had higher rated WR2 for 12 games, Baker had Godwin for just 7.
QBWho had chatter about MVP except he didn’t make the playoffs. Just Who is this…Joe Burrow! Oh BTW – Joe is making $55 Million/year!!!!!
Sounds like Baker is doing OK by the Bucs.

Mayfield had a great season. He had the best season of q.b. play that I’ve seen be the least talked about.Bucs fan have been so spoiled recently. If you teleported to 1995 and gave us mayfield we would be thanking God and hitting up corner sores for lottery tickets because of our luck. I’ll never ever forget a giants game we played that Trent Dilfer single handedly lost the game. Aebised to wish je wouldnt throw the ball. That game had we just run the ball 3 times and punted without ever throwing we would have won. I think we lost 11 to 7 or something strange like that. The defense scored for us. He was so disgustingly terrible on and on.
February 9th, 2025 at 8:26 pm
Check out these studs.
1999 we lost to the Giants 17-13
4 int. Combined The The Dilfer also lost a fumble
Tampa Bay passing
Trent Dilfer 15-31 for 174 yards, 3 INT, 1 TD, Eric Zeier 3-11 for 14 yards, 1 INT

Sub 500 again :#(
There are 32 coaches in the NFL.
7 have no Win-Loss Record because they have not yet coached a game since they were hired.
7 have a lower Winn-Loss percentage than Bowles; 17 have a better Winn-Loss record than Bowles.
Of the 7 coaches who were replaced, only one with a Win-Loss percentage of 43.1% or higher. That one Coach who was replaced who had a better Win-Loss record than Bowles was Mike McCarthy. His winning percentage was 58.3%. But, after three 12 win seasons, his team regressed by 5 games going 7-10 in the last year of his 4 year contract.
So, looking at the entire NFL this year, no one doing as well as Bowles and showing improvement season over season was replaced. The drumbeat
February 9th, 2025 at 9:11 pm
Ooops!
The outside drumbeat to fire Bowles who has been rebuilding a team in Cap Hell while winning three consecutive division championships, improving his Win-Loss record every year, leading his offense to make a Great Leap Forward, and whose defense started the season on fire until the weakness at ILB and the limited depth at DB were exposed is just out of touch with the way NFL franchises are run.
February 9th, 2025 at 11:19 pm
He needs a defense. Go Bowles
February 10th, 2025 at 2:45 am
I wonder why Rachaad White who played with both Tom Brady and Jayden Daniels says Baker is THE BEST quarterback he has ever played with??
February 10th, 2025 at 5:04 am
Critmark left out one detail, as a starter Joey B’s team never beat Bake head to head. Mayfield was a Bengal killer. The only L was when the Panthers subbed him in 2nd half down 4 TDs or so. The Cincy fans gave him a big round of boos when he trotted out on the firld, imagine that
February 10th, 2025 at 11:49 am
All excuses, explanations and wishes aside, in the end, You are what your record says you are, everyone should work on improving that no matter what you do, because all excuses , explanations , and wishes do not get better with age, they just get older.
February 10th, 2025 at 1:48 pm
Fans who blame Mayfield for 2019 and 2021 don’t know WTF they’re talking about . All they know is media sound bites.
And as much as this FORMER Browns fan would like to see Garret join the Bucs Garret doesn’t like Baker regardless of what he says. It was Garret who told Andrew Berry it was him or me and took the side of the cancerous OBJ.
So, in reality Garret is right where he belongs… in Cleveland… losing
Doesn’t mean he would nix a trade…. just a FYI since Baker is the only one who got him a playoff win in his 8 seasons
