Jason Licht Friend, Ex-GM Likes Myles Garrett Fit In Tampa
February 6th, 2025![](https://www.joebucsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/IMG_3584-1.jpg)
Browns DE Myles Garrett.
When Thomas Dimitroff launched his fantastic GM Journey podcast series in 2022, 17 episodes of deep dives with different NFL GMs, guess who his first featured guest was?
That’s right, Dimitroff, the former Patriots executive and Falcons GM, chose his buddy Jason Licht, the Buccaneers’ Ring of Honor general manager.
So when Dimitroff talks Bucs, Joe pays attention. And that’s what Dimitroff was doing this week on WDAE radio.
Asked about the Bucs potentially trading for Myles Garrett, the All-Pro Browns edge rusher who wants out of Cleveland, Dimitroff sees the Bucs as a fit.
“I think Jason Licht has a really good understanding of the trenches,” Dimitroff said. “And I have a great deal of respect for him. And I think he goes in there and he knows that this would be a legit type of move that would set that team up for years to come.”
While Dimitroff said trading two first-round draft picks is difficult, he implied it’s a different equation when a team doesn’t need a quarterback.
Dimitroff, of course, kwows plenty about making big trades when your quarterback position is set.
He shocked the NFL in 2011, trading up in the NFL Draft from No. 27 overall to No. 6 to draft Julio Jones.
In addition to giving up the No. 27 overall pick, Dimitroff traded a 2012 first-round pick, plus second- and fourth-round picks in 2011 and two fourth-round selections in 2012.
It was quite a haul and the Falcons surely never regretted the deal.
Ironically, that trade also was with the Browns — while the Falcons had Matt Ryan as a young veteran franchise quarterback.

Yes but Miles Garrett said he wants to be known as a “winner”. I don’t believe that spells Buccaneers in any way
February 6th, 2025 at 11:17 am
Too many needs to trade valuable draft picks for one player who is not guaranteed to take us anywhere.
February 6th, 2025 at 11:20 am
Need a Dog on Defense. That is him.
February 6th, 2025 at 11:21 am
Lamarcus is a hemorrhoid, pain in the ass
February 6th, 2025 at 11:22 am
Need an edge, CB to replace Dean, ILB to replace LVD, and another ILB. If the Bucs were a couple starters short of a deep playoff run, then I’d go for Garrett.
February 6th, 2025 at 11:25 am
Joes, in your opinion what should the Bucs do? To me if Garrett is acquired we will be drafting in the mid-upper 20’s for the next two years while Vita is youthful, Kancey is cheap, Evans/Godwin still here? I’m no cap guru but Garrett’s contract seems pretty reasonable for us. If it’s me and I’m giving Two 1st Rounders for him or Crosby.
Sleeper:Trey Hendrickson, Much Less to acquire

#99
Why? I’m saving Garrett from becoming a joke because you don’t say you want to be known as a “winner”… And then choose the Bucs. No, you want to go to Chiefs or Eagles. And then do want to bank on Baker Mayfield again? For Garrett… Coming to Tampa is a pipe dream.
February 6th, 2025 at 11:27 am
The Browns are looking for a 2026 #1, so they can grab Abdul Carter this draft, and commence a “Lurch For Arch”. Probably better to steer clear of all that, maybe make Baun a priority in FA.
February 6th, 2025 at 11:27 am
I would love to see it. Not convinced two 1st round picks is too much. Aquire him in the draft and you’re spending a 1st round pick anyway. So one 1st round pick is the premium. Not sure that’s too much. Injury history? A glance at his yearly sack totals moots that. Age? Sure that could be a little unnerving. Salary? Nice that they kept Mr Greenburg. Ask him. If he says it’s okay, then you’re golden. Are the Bucs ready to win a SB? Last season their offense was. Defensively? Embarrassment. Coaching and scheme? Let’s not go there.
February 6th, 2025 at 11:39 am
But we cant afford him and 2 No 1’s is too much to give up a 29 year old DPOY who is signed for two more seasons……………P&ssies
February 6th, 2025 at 11:40 am
Good Fit for the Bucs and 31 other teams. Only thing Tampa has over a most of the others is Grass.
February 6th, 2025 at 11:42 am
Our Last couple of 1st round draft picks have not lit up the Bucs defense to make two first round a non negotiatable non stater for Garrett.
If he can help the Bucs win a Super Bowl I’m All In!!!
February 6th, 2025 at 11:47 am
This move does not seem to match Jason Licht’s free agent history…
– JPP – traded 3rd round pick and relatively cheap deal
– Suh – FA cheap deal
– Barrett – FA cheap 1 year deal
– Whitehead – FA cheap 2 year deal
– Gains – FA cheap 2 year deal
– S. Mason – traded a 5th round pick somewhat cheap deal
– Gronk – traded for a 4th and 7th
– A. Brown – FA cheap one year deal
– Mayfield – FA cheap one year deal
Most of the Big money free agents signed have been our own players drafted by Licht.
– Evans
– Godwin
– Marpet
– Wirfs
– Winfield
– Barrett and Jenson both got deals after they were here for a year or more…
February 6th, 2025 at 11:47 am
First, Vea isn’t exactly “youthful.”
Bucs have maybe a two-year window. So if you are drafting an edge rusher, you hope it clicks in his second year. “Hope” which this team banks on way too much except for when Arians was here. Eff hope.
Go out and get a guy you know will get you 10+ sacks. Doesn’t matter to Joe who. Just *get* him!
February 6th, 2025 at 11:50 am
We also have no state income tax and one of the best olines in the league. Can you imagine how Garrett and Wirfs will make each other better in practice?
February 6th, 2025 at 11:53 am
He definitely seems like a culture fit, which is why he wants out of the Fecal Browns. But he doesn’t want to come to Tampa to play CB / S hybrid.
February 6th, 2025 at 11:57 am
“Hope” works both ways. Aren’t you also hoping that a 30+ player – no matter what their track record is, or how elite they have been – will do the same?
Yes, it worked very well for us under BA, but the flip side is the Saints’ tired and expensive roster.
Of course 31 teams have to do due diligence on a potentially available DPOY, but the Browns’ price is only in addition to the extension he’s going to want, and that’s where it starts to become problematic.
February 6th, 2025 at 11:58 am
Very true: not needing a QB changes the draft equation.
The needs of the Bucs are not in high-profile positions, and good players can be found in Rounds 3+.
I would be shocked if Licht makes a serious move for Garrett. It’s not like trading a 3rd for JPP or a prove-it deal with Barrett.
February 6th, 2025 at 11:59 am
lol! Glazers will never lay out the cash for a guy that does not build their Brand. MG will cost way more than Tommy Brady.
February 6th, 2025 at 12:03 pm
I would have no problem doing it. He would make the D top 8. So many fans always afraid to trade first round draft picks. I am too, but the reality is only 50% ever pan out. If they can pull off the trade and restructure him for 4 years, do it
February 6th, 2025 at 12:16 pm
DO IT JASON!! Draft picks aren’t guaranteed to work out. Garrett transforms this entire defense!
February 6th, 2025 at 12:18 pm
He’s worth two firsts for the Bucs. For sure. This kind of move got the Bucs Keyshawn and Gruden and the franchise finally won a Super Bowl because it. Very hard to add veterans like him otherwise. And he would make a huge difference.

Most of the people who think the cost is to high are the folks who live for the NFL draft. They geek out on the draft and tend to overvalue these players, assuming that whatever their draft profile projects them as, they’ll automatically/likely become. In reality, it’s not even close. 50/50 crapshoot at best.
When you can man a position of need – with a known quantity – it’s far safer.
February 6th, 2025 at 12:24 pm
Also, maybe Mike Evans can work a little Texas A&M magic on Garrett… there’s gotta be some connection there.
February 6th, 2025 at 12:25 pm
Damn dude the guys a fit in any defense in the NFL but stop talking about trade comparisons from 2011. Licht drafts well enough to give up 2 first round picks but might as well put a package together to trade up in the draft and go get one of the young studs for that kind of haul. at least you know he’ll be around for 8-10 years vs 3-4. Licht has a hard on for draft picks so I just don’t see him giving them away. I’ve never seen a guy so in love with late round picks so I’m sure he can’t wait to find the next Josh Hayes on defense
February 6th, 2025 at 12:25 pm
He can like it all he wants, still isn’t happening.
February 6th, 2025 at 12:26 pm
ow bad you want a championship Tampa Bay? I can’t tell. Sign Myles Garrett. You got a pass rush. You had none last year. Thats why your secondary was so exposed. Opposing QB’s had enough time to bake a lasagna back there. No more complaints about a pass rush with this Beast. He’s comin. You can bank on that.
February 6th, 2025 at 12:30 pm
Can’t we just overpay for a FA so we don’t have to give up picks?
February 6th, 2025 at 12:37 pm
Algo raging beastly. MG doesn’t want to play DB. That’s fact.
February 6th, 2025 at 12:41 pm
Joe(s) are gonna run this notion INTO THE GROUND until some team pays a draft choice pirates ransom, Cleveland will also want a good player as well……..
February 6th, 2025 at 12:44 pm
Light is not even considering this. Bang the drum all you want. Not going to happen. I don’t care how much people want to guarantee or bank it will.
February 6th, 2025 at 12:51 pm
Why was/is Thomas Dimitroff referred to as “ex-GM”?
Could it possibly be because of this
“In addition to giving up the No. 27 overall pick, Dimitroff traded a 2012 first-round pick, plus second- and fourth-round picks in 2011 and two fourth-round selections in 2012.”
Atlanta’s record
2011- 2020
11 – 10-6
12 – 13-3
13 – 4-12
14 – 6-10
15 – 8-8
16 – 11-5 L Super Bowl
17 – 10-6
18 – 7-9
19 – 7-9
20 – 4-12
I am not impressed, I have personally met Mr. Dimitroff, Mike Smith, and Mike Tice all while they were on the Falcons teams. Nice yes, just not very friendly at all towards “the help” (me)…
As I told Mr. Julio Jones and Coach Kotter at different times in Publix in Flowery Branch GA, no thank you. I do not need to change my fanship to the Falcons, I am and will always be a Buccaneer fan. I do appreciate your speaking with me and the offer of a new hat a shirt and some extra swag, (wearing a cap with Jones, Brooks Jersey, and Bucket hat with Kotter) Those two were great guys, we kept running into each other at Publix during Training camp. “That offer is still good”, they would tell me as we passed in the aisles of Publix in Flowery Branch.
So to me, Dimitroff is not such a “great” GM one whose word should be held in high regard, not just from his GM record, but a multi-time face-to-face interaction. Nice guy sure, just not very friendly, courteous, or enjoyable as an NFL fan meeting an NFL Team GM…
February 6th, 2025 at 12:56 pm
The conversation begins at two #1s. If that was the extent of it, sure, pull the trigger and you’d better be in the next two Super Bowls.
Add probably a 2nd, maybe a player or a pick swap and then a 5 year/ $200 million bag for a guy who’ll be getting well into his mid 30s. There may be wiggle room there, but he definitely wants Bosa money.
You’re then in cap purgatory, have no QB (unless you also then re-sign Baker at top-tier money when he’s also in his early mids), and everyone gets older and less productive and you can’t decide to blow it up or kick the can down the road.
This is definitely the kind of move a bad team with lots of cash can make – the raiders can definitely spend, and squeaking in as the #7 seed would be a great result for them.
If our general consensus of a two-year window is shared by the front office, and that a draft pick won’t produce in his rookie year – there are potential plug and play free agents that won’t cost the second half of this decade and into the beginning of the next.
February 6th, 2025 at 1:13 pm
adding a proven pass rusher who is DPOY only makes the back 7 of the defense better, even if it’s just a few tenths of a second that is shaved off during the pass rush!!! This is a no brainer. Will we still have holes; yes. Can we still use the other picks we don’t trade to fill those holes IF licht and company can knock it out of the park like we did the 2020 and 2024 drafts
February 6th, 2025 at 1:14 pm
Cool story, Rhino.
February 6th, 2025 at 1:16 pm
2 firsts is too rich.
Pass.
February 6th, 2025 at 1:21 pm
2 first round picks are a lot to recover from. I don’t know I would be exploring all options. I do agree this team needs edge rusher and pass rush but it needs defense overall and some of it is talent and some of it is Bowles and his coverages playing way off the WR or dropping back in zone and not in the right spots.
February 6th, 2025 at 1:34 pm
How is 2 first round picks too much??
This is a proven player who’s one of the best in the sport at the most impactful position in the league.
Two first round picks is too much for an elite cornerback, not for an elite defensive end.
February 6th, 2025 at 1:46 pm
I think it’s great that Jason‘s buddy is putting pressure on him to pull the trigger on this deal, but it really isn’t in Jason‘s history to pull the trigger on a mega deal. J P P Was not still a superstar when we traded for him he still have plenty left, but he wasn’t in the prime of his career. This won’t be like signing Brady he’ll have to give up a king’s ransom and I don’t think he has it in him to take such a risk.
February 6th, 2025 at 1:46 pm
Two 1st round picks is really only *one* since you will likely be using one of the firsts on a defensive player this season anyway. Two is really only one. The cost is not anywhere as great as some are making out.
February 6th, 2025 at 1:54 pm
Two firsts is just too much. Maybe a 1st this year and a 4th next year. Oh and throw in Dean. lol.
February 6th, 2025 at 1:54 pm
I see the Bucs getting a pass rusher, just not this guy. Hendrickson, maybe.
February 6th, 2025 at 1:57 pm
I know some Niners fans are saying they’re gonna give some draft picks and their kicker, Jake Moody. Isn’t Moody terrible?
February 6th, 2025 at 1:59 pm
Cleveland is definitely at a disadvantage in this scenario. They are 35 million over the cap for 25 and really need to trade assets to even have the ability to sign any draft picks in 2025. A smart GM in Cleveland’s situation would be open to any trade possibilities, the whole roster should be available. They may be waiting out a decision on Deshaun Watson and if he violated his contract by screwing around in Miami without his protective boot following surgery for his Achilles. According to Medical Professionals the only way he could retear the Achilles would be if he was ignoring Doctor’s orders and moving around without he boot on. Its their only hope for cap relief is for his contract to be voided, one of the worst trades and signings in League history……Cleveland just should have kept Baker.
February 6th, 2025 at 2:03 pm
“Fit” can be somewhat of a subjective thing…
Will he fit in Bowles schemes? Will he acquiesce to dropping into coverage when asked? Will he be content to share the stage with Kancey and Diaby?
Money and draft capital not withstanding….another consideration should be his potential impact on the locker room. It’s been said that he was instrumental in stirring discontent with Mayfield in Cleveland when Mayfield stated that Garrett needed to be better (think before acting) than he was when he hit Rudolph with his helmet in that Pittsburgh game. Garrett took it as a show of disrespect for not supporting him.
Seems there would be a bit of due diligence necessary to determine the validity of the claims as well as the status of their relationship. Having team leaders potentially at odds could be more detrimental to the team than the amount of good Garrett could provide on the field.
February 6th, 2025 at 2:05 pm
The only reason not to get MG is that the preseason hype and expectations would be too much for this team, almost gaurunteeing a slow start
February 6th, 2025 at 2:11 pm
Lamarcus
Yea, Brady prob thought the same thing too right, haha. We weren’t winners for years until he got here. Since then, 5 straight trips to playoffs, 4 straight NFC South crowns and oh yea, and a Lombardi.
Please spare us your drivel.
February 6th, 2025 at 2:16 pm
@ Ted
“Cleveland is definitely at a disadvantage in this scenario. They are 35 million over the cap for 25 and really need to trade assets to even have the ability to sign any draft picks in 2025.”
I agree. Their GM should be fired for what he did to this poor idiotic franchise. Losing star players just because they have to continue paying their worthless QB a king’s ransom.
Stupid is as stupid does…
February 6th, 2025 at 2:17 pm
I just wanna say yes please Jason go get him do what it takes. Bring us another Super Bowl.!!! MG in Tampa will succeed!
February 6th, 2025 at 2:21 pm
“”Yes but Miles Garrett said he wants to be known as a “winner”. I don’t believe that spells Buccaneers in any way””
I’m as harsh a critic on this team as anybody but that statement makes zero sense. None. Zilch. Nada.
Since 2020 Bucs/Rams/49ers tied for the most playoff wins with 6.
Bucs and Rams have both won SB’s since 2020.
Bucs have the most consecutive playoff appearances than any other NFC team.
February 6th, 2025 at 2:22 pm

February 6th, 2025 at 2:47 pm
Draft picks are used to better a team. They are also a crap shoot, Garrett is worth 2 #1’s.
February 6th, 2025 at 2:59 pm
Pull that trigger and we a legit Super Bowl contender. 2 number ones and throw in that leading lawn chair dean for yucks and grins. Greenberg will make the numbers work. Multi generational talent can get us to the big show.
February 6th, 2025 at 3:12 pm
Sounds goo to me.
February 6th, 2025 at 3:17 pm
Well, I’m not a fan of how he sided with touch my Weiner Watson during the Baker drama. But if he shows some humility, wants to start fresh, and we could workout a deal then it could be a great development 🤘🏼
Dude would be so happy to be here… A team on the rise with a SB in sight…. Not to mention the weather and no state taxes.
The BUC’s “spell winner” in many measurable and intangible ways.
Your comment says loser – but that’s just my opinion ✌🏼
February 6th, 2025 at 3:19 pm
Lamarcus too funny Chiefs we were1 one 2 point play away from beating and we beat them in our last Super Bowl together and the Eagles. I think we beat them three out of the last four games including twice last year.. if you’re going to troll at least be accurate.
February 6th, 2025 at 3:20 pm
OK, Retraction once last year and twice the year before
February 6th, 2025 at 3:35 pm
Would you rather have Garrett or JTS and Logan Hall? That’s the type of price you’re talking about.
But it’s not happening in any case, someone else will make a bigger offer.
February 6th, 2025 at 3:40 pm
Garret is not the correct move. Mortgaging the future is something we did already and need to return to fiscal responsibility if you want a consistent winner here. Khalil Mack is the right move and has averaged over 10 sacks a year over the last 3 seasons. Mack is super durable on the edge and will definitely be a Hall of Famer and for good reason. Mack would bring everything the Bucs need currently plus veteran leadership at about 10 mil per and no lost draft picks-so let’s get real.
February 6th, 2025 at 3:47 pm
Garrett is legit and two late firsts is a reasonable cost. What might fsctor into this and be tough to part ways with in terms of the first roubd picks is that Tampa will likely require another elite receiver in the next two years and therefore makes it tricky to execute this trade. Licht waited too long to address the edge position, now other needs based on aging greats like Evans and David are required.
February 6th, 2025 at 3:49 pm
Bucsfan Says:
Garret is not the correct move. Mortgaging the future is something we did already
———-
…and won a Super Bowl.
That’s the entire point.
The 2000 Bucs gave up two picks to get Keyshawn Johnson, and they win a SB a couple of years later, in part because Keyshawn helped out that horrendous passing offense get just barely over the bar of acceptability. Without him, does the offense even score enough to make it through the playoffs? Well, yes, because the defense gave up a total of 3 net points through all 3 playoff games, but still, the point is the Bucs made a bold move and won a SB.
Meanwhile, the Bucs later made a big move to get Reavis, for a team that had zero chance of competing and it was the wrong move.
If you can get Garrett for two 1st’s, and you’re not having to give up other pieces – then do it. Be bold, make the move.
If you’re having to make other moves, like cut your 2nd string starting corner to get Garrett, creating a huge new hole, then don’t do it, since you’re creating more problems.
But Garrett takes care of edge, then you have your 2nd and 3rd to get ILB’s or one and a safety, and if you got David coming back, suddenly the defense looks way better and you’re in the condening window.
February 6th, 2025 at 3:55 pm
No doubt they need Myles Garrett but at what cost? I say that because this defense are PLAYERS away from being championship caliber not a player away. Aside from up front Bucs need 2 ILBs, another safety and a legit #1 CB. Trade Dean and his salary and pray Dennis comes back from the shoulder injury. Another thing to consider is his age – 29. Are 2 ones worth Garrett with ALL the Bucs needs? Assuming JL can still hit on draft picks… that’s a big IF for all GMs. Tough call no doubt but I would be lying if I said I didnt want it to happen.
February 6th, 2025 at 4:05 pm
Let’s just find the next JTS and draft him in round 1.
February 6th, 2025 at 4:29 pm
Have you heard about the new EO Pres. Trump is signing?
“Among the tax cuts he mentioned are his campaign pledges to end levies on tips, Social Security payments and overtime pay. Leavitt also said Trump wants to end what she cast as “special tax breaks for billionaire sports team owners” and create new cuts for made-in-America products.”
No more “tax breaks” for billionaire sports team owners…
How will this affect the NFL salary cap?
February 6th, 2025 at 4:45 pm
Licht is not giving up two firsts, and giving Garrett a big new contract. Just not happening, Joe’s beating a dead horse. A trade for Cinncy’s Trey Hendrickson is a more real possibility. Licht gave up a 3rd rounder for JPP, Hendrickson can probably be had for a second.
February 6th, 2025 at 4:50 pm
Lamarcus you have our sympathy. Too bad you failed spelling in school! Did your parents take it hard?
“Bucs have maybe a two-year window.”
Says who? Based on what? The Bucs are a team on the rise nowhere near their peak yet even without Garrett.
Again if Jason makes the deal I would support it because it’s Jason and Garrett is obviously a stud.
But I’m not that comfortable mortgaging the farm for ONE player, who may are not be on sore knees, who has a lot of mileage on him.
I’m still more concerned about backup QB because although I love his style and wouldn’t wish him to change, Baker’s ballls to the wall style comes at a price.
The Bucs have been lucky, especially last season. His first year in the Carolina game he shouldn’t have even suited up much less started. It’s only a matter of time. The next guy in could be critical to continued success.
February 6th, 2025 at 4:56 pm
No more tax breaks for Sports team owners,
That will affect the salary cap.
Buyer beware.
February 6th, 2025 at 4:57 pm
Why do you think they just voted to allow owners to sell off portions of their teams?
LOL!!!!
February 6th, 2025 at 5:09 pm
Do we totally disregard last year’s results planning to go forward.
The Bucs were 18th in overall Defense…mediocre
They were 7th in sacks!!! The Bucs got no “coverage” sacks.
And figure this out! While 7th in sacks the Bucs the Bucs sucked in the backend.
The Bucs were one of only ten teams to get less than double digit ints and their Int return yardage is abysmal!! The Bucs had 28 yards of returns on their measly 7 ints. Compare that to the 430 yards for the Broncos! Or the 288 for the Pack or the 249 for the Bengals.
Top ten in sacks #7 overall… bottom of the heap in INTS with just 7, one of ten teams to not break double digits.
I do not see how those stats point to an edge rusher over OLB’s, ILB’s and most of all cover corners to plug the porous back end.
Garrett’s great but if he moves the Bucs up to #1 in sacks but they stay 20th or worse in ints and coverage sacks how will that improve the team?
Garrett is incredibly expensive! What desperate NEED does he fill in terms of RESULTS as in putting the opposing QB on his butt. The Bucs ALREADY
February 6th, 2025 at 5:27 pm
There is nothing that Licht can do with 1 and 2 round picks this year to improve on the Garrett impact for the next 5 years. Garrett wants to be in a SB, think he will if Licht makes this move.
February 6th, 2025 at 5:39 pm
I would not be opposed to trading away some people/picks to move up high enough in the draft to get a sure thing, like Aiden Hutchinson
February 6th, 2025 at 5:45 pm
BTW while we’re all having fun “what iffing” Garrett some food for thought.
Source- Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland dott com as used by Mike Florio on their show. So Florio and Simms felt comfortable with this take.
The Browns made Garrett the No. 1 overall selection in 2017 and Mayfield the No. 1 overall pick a year later.
Per Cabot, a rift between the two “seemed to be there from the start, in part because of their personalities and leadership styles,” and Mayfield was among those in the organization who perceived a lack of strong leadership from Garrett.
Cabot reports that the chasm between Mayfield and Garrett only widened to the point where Garrett wanted to see a change at quarterback for 2022. The Browns did just that, trading for Deshaun Watson before moving on from Mayfield.
“It never is (easy),” Garrett said of working alongside Mayfield over the years. “Winning takes a lot.”Guys are going to say and do things that they wouldn’t normally do and they’re going to listen and be receptive to things they haven’t normally done or have to do. So it was a slightly complicated relationship, but that’s how it is each year.”
So Garrett helped bring the worst move in recent NFL history DeShaun Watson?
Perhaps he can bring the Bucs worst personnel move in history back again. Maybe his Cleveland teammate Fameis Jameis would like a reprise as Bucs QB.
I suspect he would be “affordable”!
February 6th, 2025 at 5:47 pm
I am a CPA, I do taxes for a living. I have done taxes for, NFL, MLB and PGA players. The no state tax is a Lille over blown. You get taxed in the state you play. So if you are a Bucs player half of your games are at home and not subject to state tax. The away games are taxed in the state you play the game, except TX, NV, FL, and a few others. So they save roughly half of the state income tax.
February 6th, 2025 at 6:00 pm
Stpetebucsfan
The point is if we can get to the QB wo blitzing, then that’s an extra guy in coverage. Most of our sacks came with 5+ guys rushing.
February 6th, 2025 at 6:18 pm
Hey Joe…. What if….
We packaged this year’s first rounder plus Mr white and next year’s second round pick…
The browns need a rb…. We have a great extra…

If he can cover like a DB then I think he’ll fit right in with Bowles’ defense.

It would be AWESOME to get him or someone else of his ability to line up next to CK94 and VV!50! Will this happen? Your guess is as good as mine!

Miles and Nick Chubb would love to rejoin with baker.

If this was a sign and trade four year deal, if you are convinced that he is healthy, it could possibly be worth it if you have a solid plan for addressing the crippling weakness at ILB when Lavonte David retires and if you have a solid plan for adding better depth at DB.
But, this is just a two year rental that costs 8 to 10 years of first round production at rookie contract prices.
The thought of having Garrett on the team makes me want to drool; the thought of the cost to rent him for two years makes me nauseous.

Save the picks and maybe move up in the draft there are a couple good DE’s coming out

Exactly Hodad. If it was just 2 1st round picks and some cheap salary, then maybe. He’ll want 40 mil a year for 4 years minimum. Pipe dream. Jason is too smart for this boondoggle. Hendrickson a much better fit cap wise and team wise. All our high priced guys are at reasonable expense. Garret is a great player and known commodity. He’s just too rich for our blood. Two firsts and 40 mil can buy a lot of assets if you’re smart. I don’t see this happening at all.

“The point is if we can get to the QB wo blitzing, then that’s an extra guy in coverage. Most of our sacks came with 5+ guys rushing.”
That’s an excellent point ORBuc. I only have a couple of nits to pick because it clearly makes sense.
First…sadly I’m not as detailed as D.R. or LUV so I can’t honestly say or provide stats for what the “most of our sacks” represents number wise or % wise. Perhaps you have specific numbers to give us a little better perspective.
Secondly as to missing an extra guy in coverage in my recollection Bowles has always had a reputation as a “blitzing” coach. Just imagine a healthy game wrecking Antoine Winfield playing backup with the same talent he brought during the SB year.
Then imagine DW45 playing along side of LVD when White was a rookie game wrecker. That’s just TWO players and what a difference they would have made. And who took DW45s spot? Britt!!!! He’s a great run stopper but couldn’t cover anybody! A huge liability in pass coverage.
Now who took Davis and Dean’s spots? I think Zyon showed a ton of promise and continued improvement but Dean still spent to much too much time in the whirlpool.
The bottom line is nobody can look at the ILB/Safety/and CB positions as talented! It’s easy to blame the horrible pass stats on the rush or especially the coach and his efforts to HIDE a truly thin talentwise secondary.
Is ONE more guy in coverage really going to plug all those holes?
Better than losing the blitz would be a HEALTHY Winfield and a first rounder the equivalent of DW45 in his rookie year. Just those two additions would make a huge impact along with the continued growth of Kancey/Ya Ya/Braswell.

We are more than a defensive end away from winning a Super Bowl. If we could pull off trading for Garrett, we would still need a quality inside linebacker, that’s if David comes back. If he doesn’t we may need two. We also need a quality corner that isn’t injury prone. You have to trust that Licht knows we need more than just Garrett to put us over the top.

The most I would do is this year’s 1st and next years 2nd for a two year costly rental.

Agree with others who have said it seems unlikley, given Licht’s history. Just don’t see him giving up multiple top round picks, as much as I might want it to happen.
Make no mistake, Myles Garrett would put our defense on the next level.

I don’t have the exact stats, but what I do know is that 2 of our DTs led the Bucs with 14.5 sacks total and Logan Hall adds to that with I believe 4.5. Many of the other sacks came from ILB, S and corner, as well a little sprinkle of OLB. The first three obviously come as extra blitzers and it’s likely a few more came from 2 OLBs blitzing.
Imagine being able to get to the QB with 3 down linemen: Kancey, Vea and Garrett. That’s the type of Dawg we are talking about here.

And 8 guys in coverage!

Imagine our 4th rusher is optional, while Lavonte spies a mobile QB. I’d say that’s the recipe for a great Defense!

All excellent points. I think we’re not that far apart just the “desperation” for one player, especially at “edge rush”. I get that an edge rush would be very advantageous just am not swept up in the ONE player there is going to make a HUGE difference.
If Garrett brought a dozen more sacks that still leaves a HUGE gaping hole behind him and at the cost of a LOT of draft capital that could help fill ALL those back end positions that are currently a glaring weakness.
I certainly see Garrett improving the rush but with the current back 6 the Bucs still would not be able to cover and guys would run wild once again.

I think the injuries killed our secondary last year. If your team is strong up the middle then thats a good start. Myles would cut down on the time a QB has to throw and still play the run but we do need a backer who can somewhat cover and I believe Dennis is that guy, showed it before getting hurt. If we can get to the passer with 3 or 4 guys that most definitely helps in coverage, playing tighter in that 5-10 yard space in the middle of the field or getting in the passing lanes but that was the problem, they had to almost sell the farm to get to the QB and that was part of the problem getting off the field on 3rd down, open for the conversion. More guys in that space as opposed to rushing the passer should lead to that being cut in half.

Wonder if Parsons from Dallas would be worth going after?
