Raheem OK With Stunting McCoy At Undertackle

Essentially, Raheem Morris said at his news conference today that Gerald McCoy can not only handle bouncing around the defensive line during games, he has to do it for the best interest of the defense.
It’s necessary, even if it slows McCoy’s development at undertackle, Raheem explained following a question about the subject.
“If I was thinking selfishly for McCoy, I probably would say, ‘Yes.’ But thinking selfishly for at defensive standpoint, that makes us better,” Morris said. “Our defense needs him to move around to be productive, and be smart, and be sharp, and be wise beyond his years so to speak. And he has been. …During the season, you’ve got to do what’s best for the football team.”
Joe’s glad to hear Raheem concerned about winning over everything else. No surprise. After all, he is from Chucky’s win-now coaching tree, and Raheem’s got to know that he’ll very much be judged on how many Ws he chalks up this season.

I’m also glad to hear that Raheem put’s winning over everything else. But he does need to be concerned about McCoy’s development as well.

Sorry Rah, but I happen to agree with Steve White on this one. His logic is better than yours, broken down into detail, and D line is his bailiwick. I believe if they tried Steve’s approach, and also worked Bennett into the rotation, it may pay dividends. I am a little perplexed by Rah’s stubbornness when it comes to the D line. He has been willing to make changes up and down the entire team, yet he insists on bouncing his D linemen around, and not always putting his best players in the best situations to make big plays. Call me a SGW Groupie if you like, but I read, I listen, I understand, and I’m on board. Maybe Rah should try it too, at least in this case. Pittsburgh Stomped Our Ass. I’m still hanging tough with the team though, but I don’t want to beat my head on the wall like last year.

Although I tend to agree that McCoy should stick to just one position, I also think Morris and the staff has to be careful not to make too many sudden changes due to one game. They’ve worked the entire offseason on moving people around, so to make changes now shows a little bit of haste. Not to mention that we are already making changes at running back, safety (not by our choice), and probably even receiver (moving Stroughter back to the slot). I’m all for making changes to improve the team, and I think Raheem does a good job of admitting mistakes and fixing them quickly (unlike Gruden – sorry but even the biggest Gruden lover has to admit that’s he was overly stubborn). However, too many changes signify chaos, and that’s not the mentality you want to convey to your team. Probably the best way to do it is to gradually move McCoy around less with each game, versus just immediately stopping.

I’m too am on board with BMA and Hawaii Buc. Start Crowder and rotate in Bennett and Moore and leave our new stud Tackles on the inside where they are supposed to be.

Jon may have been stubborn, but he let Monte have autonomy with the defense. I just read Steve’s blog about this situation, and it is definitely entertaining, detailed, and broken down where even a simpleton(won’t say any names) can understand it.

since when did everybody hop on the “building for the future” bandwagon? all i heard all offseason was pissed off bucs fans wanting results now. if we had any de’s that were worth a pinch of crap it would be easier to leave him inside.
