An Eighth Ring For Justin Watson?

February 4th, 2025

Then-rookie Bucs receiver Justin Watson gets an earful from DeSean Jackson.

Yeah, a unique Bucs-related feel-good story still can move Joe in the dusty, beer-stained corners of JoeBucsFan.com world headquarters.

So back in 2018, the Bucs drafted a freakishly athletic receiver in Round 5 out of the University of Pennsylvania, Justin Watson.

He was very strong rookie on special teams as he tried to find a few snaps on offense. A year later, after the failing Dirk Koetter regime was ousted, Bucco Bruce Arians hung on to Watson and he got a little action.

Watson was on the Bucs’ Super Bowl team a year later and then got ex-communicated from Tampa in 2021; his disappearance happened after he ran a bad route that led to a Tom Brady pick-6.

Watson has spent the past three seasons in Kansas City making 20-plus starts with Patrick Mahomes. So Watson has three Super Bowl rings and is gunning for a fourth Sunday against the Eagles.

But it doesn’t stop there.

Watson, also known as a Bill Currie Ford customer and friend of JoeBucsFan.com draft guru Sean Sullivan, is a favorite sun of the greater Pittsburgh area. ABC-TV in Pittsburgh ran a feature this moth on Watson that noted he also won two state titles in high school and two Ivy League championships at Penn. They even shared pictures of his rings.

That’s one hell of a run for a 28 year old.

Joe wishes Watson well.

Probably not the spelling Joe was intending.

It’s amazing to me how many players on the team so quickly escape my memory as time passes by. Took a second for me to recall this dude. The boys at JBF have a much better memory than I do. Although , these days, that ain’t saying much.

I do too. My wife’s a Chiefs fan as she is from Festus. So I watch their games often and it’s nice to see him successful there. Mahomes throws his way occasionally and sometimes he is one of their deep targets, which is surprising to me as I don’t remember him being known for his speed all that much. Behind Brown, Worthy, Hopkins (and Rice) on a depth chart now. So it will be interesting to see what odds are for a Watson anytime TD on Hard Rock. When good teams play against each other, somebody on the depth chart normally has a big moment. When it comes to our Bucs, I believe we have the depth to have those moments as well on offense. Too bad our defense was bad this year and too bad our HC didn’t go for it on any 4th downs against the Commanders as they went 3/5 in the WC game.

This is such a great feel-good story! Thank you for sharing.

Justin found his perfect fit with the Chiefs. That is for sure.

Brady probably forced him out because he made him look bad on one play

Watson is such a trash receiver – it’s amazing he’s stuck around this long. The guy got ran out of Tampa because he kept rounding off his routes – which lead to the early pick 6 that Brady threw in Tampa (not to mention all the INT’s that Winston threw going in his general direction because he was a poor route runner). Watson also has trash hands and can’t really be relied on, as they’ve seen in KC many times.

What he does have is good size and speed and can get open – but if he can catch the ball after getting open, that’s a different story.

    ——–

It was a hell of a lot more than one play – the guy was rounding off his routes for years causing INT’s for Brady and Winston. In KC, he’s good for a huge dropped pass just about every game in prime time, assuming he gets on the field.

    He’s a bum.

  13. Beeej Says:

I’m thinking he caused TWO Brady pick-6’s

Umm hey Jason can we get him back ya think?

Never mind…we got Trey Pamer and Rakim Jarrett.

    Go Bucs!
