Xavier Worthy: Mike Evans Is The Best
February 5th, 2025A Longhorn going to bat for an Aggie? Joe’s heard everything now.
Chiefs rookie wide receiver Xavier Worthy is a proud Longhorn. Texas Longhorn. Two hours to the northeast of Austin, home of the Longhorns, is College Station where Texas A&M sits.
Yes, that’s the same school where Mike Evans transformed from being a high school basketball star into a first round NFL draft pick at wide receiver.
Now? Evans and his Super Bowl ring are full steam ahead to Canton after he racked up 1,000 yards receiving this past year for the 11th straight time tying him with the great Jerry Rice
And even though he gave a hated Aggie props, the Chiefs’ rookie said if he had to pick the best receiver in the game, it would be Evans.
Why? Scoreboard, Worthy said.
No receiver had done what Evans has done. The math doesn’t add up for anyone else.
“I’m not even going to lie,” Worthy began, knowing he’s about to catch hell from the Longhorn faithful. “A lot of people are not going to like this answer.
“But I feel like Mike Evans, after he is done, is going to be the best. If you have the most 1,000-yard seasons, that makes you the best, right? That makes the most sense.”
Joe’s sure Evans himself would pause before saying he’s better than Jerry Rice or even Evans’ childhood idol Randy Moss.
Remember: Evans just tied Rice’s record for 11 consecutive 1,000-yard seasons, but Rice had 14 of those seasons in total. So Joe gets what Worthy is saying, but Evans isn’t there. Almost.
That’s very big of a Longhorn to give an Aggie massive props like that. Worthy’s going to pay when he visits Texas.

Evans would pause right now when comparing himself to the greats, but as noted by worthy, it’s different if he gets the most. It’s gotta be earned, but he is close! He legitimately has a shot to break the top 10 in receiving yards after this next season!

“But I feel like Mike Evans, after he is done…”

mike is about 2 years away from top 10 and 3 years away from top 5ish…
based on getting around 1,000 yards per yer…
not sure what dude above ^^^ is basing that on…seems off…i’m kind of obsessed with mike’s receiving yards for his career vs. other receivers…
after that if he gets hyper focused and is thinking long game, he has a legit shot to jump ahead of moss and owens into the #3 or #4 slot…
and if he gets illy minded and is all about the grind, he can potentially move in front of fitzgerald into the #2 slot…
but never jumping rice for the #1 spot…
if i’m mike i grind out a couple seasons at the end as more of a possession type receiver, maybe even add weight…don’t really focus on the 1k season at that point and rack up about 1,500 yards in a final 2 seasons to seize that #2 all time receiving slot…
then again, i’m not mike…and aging and injuries can not be foreseen…
but mike has a legit shot at about 18,000 yards if he plays another 5 years…
and a legit shot at about 16,000 yards, moving him into the number 3 slot all time, if he only plays 3 more healthy productive seasons…
so can he rock 3 more…or rock and grind out 5 more…?
these are the questions…
and only mike knows the answer

Mike Evans is my favorite player all time he is the most unselfish team focused player the Bucs have ever had and he takes care of his body like Tom Brady. I believe that when he is done he will be 1 of the best to ever do it

Good for Xavier for speaking out for Mike. Watching Mike at the Pro Bowl, he is well liked by many players.
Proudbucsfan – Agreed. Mike has been my favorite since he was on A&M with JM.

“If you have the most 1,000-yard seasons, that makes you the best, right? That makes the most sense.”
I see some here are not comfortable with that particular metric and that’s ok.
What I do respect at least it IS a metric and not opinion. It’s great for me when RESULTS matter.

Evans needs 1661 yards to be Top 10 and 25 TDs to be Top 5. Both are reachable. But look at the WRs ahead of him currently in TDs who never had a SB win: Moss, Owens, Carter. Ditto with career yards: Moss, Owens, Fitzgerald, Tony Gonzalez, Steve Smith, Andre Johnson, etc.
Sure SBs seem to matter more for QBs. But a SB win is a sign of making a team great. Moss played multiple years with Brady. Couldn’t win one.
Evans makes everyone better. No drama. Moss and Owens were nothing but drama.
Not a debate. And when he is done, Rvans will have his choice of broadcasting, hosting pregame, or coaching. And if he wants to step into public leadership, he could become a Senator in relatively short order. Who wouldn’t like him more than that robot Rick Scott?

What if ME13 had consistently a top 5 QB for all of the 11 years…. Hmmmm wonder what his stats would be Rice was catching from some pretty talented QB’s…

If Mike stays healthy, he gets the record next season. Rices 14 thousand yard game is going to be tougher. Sure would love him to.
February 5th, 2025 at 10:15 am
And that is with a mostly losing team and halfass QBs.

Adam from NY
For someone so knowledgeable, you’d think you’d recognize he is 1660 yards away from top 10 and 1500 away from 11. Without Chris Godwin, it’s possible. It would be career bests, but definitely not out of the realm of possibility.

M1k3 is very worthy of that assessment.

Gig Em. Favorite Aggie and Buc of all time. P.S. Austin is.northeast of College Station .

I haven’t looked at Jerry Rice’s stats in forever, and I completely forgot that in the 2002-03 season with the Raiders the guy was 40 years old still had 1200 yards. I mean Rice is amazing, everyone knows that, but wow. Also his 1000 yard streak was stopped because of one guy, Warren Sapp. If Mike breaks that record – Sapp should get a new car or something from Evans.
With all that said, Randy Moss is still the best WR I’ve ever seen. He’s literally the only guy that all-time great Bucs defenses had issues with and couldn’t shutdown no matter what they did. I mean they’d double cover him, or even have three guys on him in the endzone and he’d just outleap everyone – AND would hold onto the ball as John Lynch would light him up. The only way to stop Moss in that era was to get to the QB before he had a chance to get rid of the ball – or at least force them to make bad throws. Obviously Moss didn’t have the longevity – but peak Moss is the GOAT, at least for a few years.

^^^ by that logic you could also say megatron. I’m all about consistent production over a long period of time. Even if Mike doesn’t get Jerry yardage numbers, he’s in the conversation to be the best to ever play WR. That’s legend material.
