Baker Mayfield Makes Pro Bowl
January 28th, 2025Another day, another Bucs Pro Bowler announced.
The reigning Pro Bowl MVP will return to the game, Baker Mayfield.
The Pro Bowl, once something worth watching (years ago) and now little more than a joke flag football game not interesting enough to get you to click out of a college basketball game, will have last year’s MVP return.
He’ll play in Orlando this weekend to replace Jayden Daniels who will not play.
Last week, it was learned that Bucs QB coach Thad Lewis and inside linebackers coach Larry Foote were added to “coach” Eli Manning’s staff. Joe isn’t sure if that is a bonus or a sentence.
Joe has a hunch the Manning Bros. and their “Omaha Productions” are producing the Pro Bowl and all the nonsense around it.
That’s because the Manning Bros. are the coaches, and were last year.
Joe guesses someone on Park Ave. in Manhattan, across the street from NFL headquarters, did some dumb study that determined the Mannings play in Pinckneyville so they have to be involved in everything NFL-related on the four-letter.
The game quite literally is a flag football game.
Joe thinks it is cool Mayfield got this honor because Joe is certain he’ll get a bonus out of it, along with Mike Evans, Tristan Wirfs and Vita Vea.

Great. Flag football it is. Yawn.
28-27
Fire Bowles now!!!
January 28th, 2025 at 3:40 pm
Great for Baker, well deserved.
BUT
Hard to take the honor seriously when Russel Wilson is included.
I know the pro bowl isn’t anything but when you scrape so low that Wilson is your choice, maybe it’s time to shut it down altogether.

Good for Baker’s personal brand to go. Baker completely justified to decline as he was screwed out of a real Pro Bowl nomination.
January 28th, 2025 at 3:56 pm
LUV this!!! Baker always enjoys all of the competitions 2!!! Go BAKE!!!! and Yeah, Jeff is right-he deserves this as he was screwed out of a real Pro Bowl nomination(and should of been in the MVP conversation 2 with his accolades of this year!)
Have FUN BAKER-MIKE-VETAVEA AND???DIDN’t WIRFS MAKE IT GUYS?????
January 28th, 2025 at 4:01 pm
So did Russell Wilson and Drake Maye.
Basically if you play QB in the NFL, you’re a pro-bowl’er now. Everyone gets a trophy!
January 28th, 2025 at 4:01 pm
I don’t think these injury alternate pro bowls count.
Perhaps he was deserving, but nah. Sorry
January 28th, 2025 at 4:10 pm
Great news! Cannot wait to watch Baker, Mike, and Vita! Their families are going to have so much fun too!
January 28th, 2025 at 4:12 pm
Well deserved – Baker shouldn’t have been an ‘alternate’ in the first place based on his stellar #s this season – but I’m glad he now officially gets the ‘honor’ – and I do believe he gets extra $ for being a Pro Bowler as well – so congrats Baker Mayfield.
That said – the Pro Bowl is a joke….. The whole thing – the process, the game, all of it. Haven’t watched more than a few minutes of it in many years. And now that the game is ‘flag football’ – its even more of a joke….
January 28th, 2025 at 4:32 pm
A little nod and some cash for our four Pro Bowlers.
The “game” itself really is irrelevant now, but the flip side is instances like Lee Roy Selmon re-injuring his back in the 1985 game. He opted to retire, rather than having surgery.
Wouldn’t want that, either.
January 28th, 2025 at 4:34 pm
They don’t even go to Hawaii anymore.
January 28th, 2025 at 4:34 pm
Bakers great year part of the reason Bucs will be featured greatly next year on prime time. Bills, Chiefs, Niners, Rams, Texans, Falcons all must see tv…Hope Rogers returns to the Jets…Baker v Rogers..
January 28th, 2025 at 4:36 pm
Baker made it but Jameis did not..? Huh. That’s odd
January 28th, 2025 at 4:41 pm
It seems that players like Bake. Maybe he can help us pick up some FA’s, not that we can afford any. His buddy Shepard needs to be released though – too many penalties for me.
January 28th, 2025 at 4:51 pm
Great to see Baker back there. He does deserve to be there with his fellow Bucs.

They’ve announced at least 3 new ‘pro-bowl’ QB’s today – and the pro-bowl doesn’t even start for a few more days, so don’t write off that possibility quite yet.
January 28th, 2025 at 5:02 pm
I’m more inclined to watch the pro bowl than this year’s superbowl.
January 28th, 2025 at 5:37 pm
I honestly prefer it this way than the way it used to be. Just a few years ago Tyler eifert has 16tds and looked like one of the next up and coming TEs in the league. That year he gets hurt in the pro bowl and misses the next head. When he did return he wasn’t even a shell of himself he was worse! It’s a good way to engage with fans and get more too. Not something to really complain about imo

It’s pretty interesting to me that I have seen any statement from Baker about Coen leaving. He is a real stand up dude so that is interesting.

So basically Winston and his first year when he was the 7th alternate?
January 28th, 2025 at 5:59 pm
Please, no one injure anything.
January 28th, 2025 at 6:57 pm
This whole Pro Bowl thing is one big joke. A lot of the first ballot selectees are waiving it off, and they are not even injured. Just pretending to be.
January 28th, 2025 at 7:51 pm
It’s supposed to be FUN for the players and a recognition of success.
Who really wants to see an actual football game. Have you watched the NHL All Star game. Last time I checked they went through the motions with a “fake” game and NO hitting.
Do we really believe that in the “violent” contact sports like football and hockey All star games are appropriate. So Pro Bowl has simply become an honor and as Jude correctly points out FUN for the players and their families.
Do you guys not get enough hitting during the season when it COUNTS for something at least. Are you all not even more incensed at the “Pre Season” where they still fake real games.
People are tossing numbers like 20 million for CG14, and only because he’s coming after injury. What kind of stupidity would it take from the owners at this point to put MEGA million dollars players in harms way for a game that’s just an honor and reward for the players. How would everybody feel if somebody took out Baker’s knee.
Meanwhile a couple weeks ago people were here roasting Pete Rose for his traditional head first slide at home in a “meaningless” All Star game.
If it doesn’t entertain you fine! DON’T WATCH IT!

you can tear a pec if you yank a hankie too hard
January 28th, 2025 at 7:55 pm
if i recall the pro bowls back in the 80’s…even the early 90s…
i used to watch a bit…
i think they hit a little bit…not much, but they knocked each other around a little bit…
in more recent years they’ve been marshmellowing around to the point where it’s hard to watch…
last time i watched a pro bowl is when alstott probably was in one…long time ago

They still played pretty fun games into the late 90s and even early 2000s if I recall correctly. They certainly weren’t going 100%, but the games were much like the NBA All-Star games in that you got a lot of scoring and showboating, and once you got to the end of the game, you generally got guys who wanted to win and would play harder (still not 100%, but sometimes it got close).
Then we got into the ‘I got feed my family’ era, where suddenly everyone is being applauded for not playing hard or even being entertaining. Suddenly people are saying how smart it is to not play in the Pro Bowl, then how you smart it is not to play in the preseason, then how the smart thing to do is to sit out regular season games if you headache. It’s a real crybaby quitters world view where not trying is celebrated.

He’s still trash

not good, rather he was on vacation

Listened to a podcast early today and heard Jordan Whitehead broke his neck in that car wreck. Joe why didn’t you tell us. I remember wondering what happened. Heard it from S.R. at Pewter Report. We will need to replace almost entire secondary and we need an edge rush and linebackers. Hope Jason Licht is ready to shop.

I’m happy for Baker. He put up some great numbers and was a leader of the team. He deserves the honor of being called a Pro Bowler.
January 29th, 2025 at 2:06 am
I thought there were 32 starting quarterbacks and only 6 pro bowl quarterbacks of which Baker won the precision passing contest=accuracy test and the offensive MVP. And of course old Rod QE Munch said Baker wasn’t accurate in his throwing. Proving munch wrong for the 55th time in the last 2 years. I wouldn’t like Baker either if I were Munchhousen…
January 29th, 2025 at 4:15 am
Thank you for the Tampa Bay Buc link on your other post, “Clown Label.” I had forgotten about Tristan being at the Pro Bowl too. How exciting, we will have four members there to watch! Even fans that don’t really like the pro bowl will enjoy watching them.
January 29th, 2025 at 4:24 am
I attended one of the last real pro bowl games. It rained constantly. The field became a giant slip n slide. The players mindful of potential injuries played “tag” football, while the younger players enjoyed the slip n slide. No player should give up their multi million dollar contracts for a potential broken bone. I knew at that game the rules tp the probowl would change. I am glad it did. I like watching the competitive attitude defense uses to show off their strength. I like seeing how accurate a quarterback can throw the ball. Flag football is just for fun. I like seeing players laugh and joke around rather than try to beat each other up when the refs backs are turned. Face it. The season is over for them, and this is a great way to show off the players personalities. Take it for what it is, a fun farewell to the season.
January 29th, 2025 at 6:28 am
Debbie⁴ – Perfectly said and fully agree. Last season Baker did very well and even got to sit with the analysts there. It was enlightening and fun to watch the personalities shine too.
January 29th, 2025 at 7:18 am
He should be interviewing OC,s. How about asking Klingenhoffer for a second chance at Baker. He coached him at texas tech. Baker is a sober Manziel. Kliff is still being paid by the cards.

When a grad student fills in does that make him a Professor? Next thing you know the medals will be Gold, Silver, Bronze and Tin. Win, Place , Show, and Meh.
Even Mac Jones could have been Top 10 with that offense in 2024.
No All Pro’s and twice as many Jersey changes as Playoff wins. If he is not placed in perfect surroundings he really is not that good.
Pro Bowl is like American Idol. Popularity Contest.
January 29th, 2025 at 5:21 pm
Daniels backed out because he choked against Philly and can’t face his peers. Daniels is mentally n weak. One and done. Marriota will be starting after the bye next season.

Marky mark, you are possibly the worst talent evaluator in the world.
