Bucs May Hang On To Deion Jones

January 29th, 2025

Bucs LB Deion Jones.

About eight years ago, Deion Jones looked to be the next big thing at linebacker playing for the team that drafted him, the Dixie Chicks.

After the 2021 season, the Dixie Chicks washed their hands of him, despite him missing just 12 games in six seasons. That’s good durability.

Since Atlanta parted ways with Jones, he’s bounced around the NFL. He played three games for the Bucs at the end of this season because the Bucs were desperate for warm bodies due to injuries.

Though he didn’t start a game for the Bucs, Jones did have a pass defensed in the playoff loss to the Commandos. In his day-after presser following that game, Bowles said Jones may have earned another look-see for the 2025 season. And the Bucs did just that by giving him a futures contract earlier this month.

“Small sample size, but we liked what we saw,” Bowles said. “He’s very athletic, he’s very good in the pass game. He tackled okay. He did some things well.

“I’d like to see more of him, so we’ll see what the future holds but he’s a guy in hindsight that I’d like to have back.”

Well, the Bucs need inside linebackers in the worst way. And if (God forbid) Lavonte David hangs it up, there is no doubt the biggest hole on the roster will be at inside linebacker. Bigger than the craters on Norv Turner’s face.

Depending what David decides, Joe would not be shocked if the Bucs signed a free agent linebacker in March and followed that up by drafting an inside linebacker.

It might be wise to focus on Alabama linebacker Jihaad Campbell.

Damn! Norv Turners face? Nice take. I laughed. Seriously, Joe is getting funny.

Ha! crater faced. that was funny

Speaking of 45, the downfall of Devin White has been oddly satisfying. Inactive for the Texans playoff game, and asked for his release from the super bowl bound Eagles.

That pic is of Braswell, no?

Ummm, yeah. “Bucs May Hang On To Deion Jones”

They signed him to a futures contract 2 weeks ago… so yeah, they’re hanging on to him. Don’t let the news hit you in the ass.

Joe, kind of gross to mention Norv Turner’s face. What next, more holes than Aaron Hernandez’s brain?

Some things are better kept to yourself. Ranks right down there with “KY Fingers. “

It might be a good move to bring 45 back if he has humbled himself and is willing to take coaching.

the demise of devin white should almost be a case study…

    a 30 for 30…?…not sure there’s enough there for that tho…

i’ve even seen him on a big youtube podcast in an hour long session talking about how things happened, and he’s bouncing back…

    yet there isn’t a single sign of that…and he’s still young…i don’t know what happened…except maybe it’s a box of rocks scenario

Should have read bigger than the craters in Todd Bowles defense

They aren’t bringing Devin White back, nor do I think they want to. No idea why anyone would, at this point. Three teams have now washed their hands of this cancer. And, as someone said… “box of rocks stupid”.

  15. Beeej Says:

Can’t argue it, Norv looks like he lost an acid fight

  16. Buddha Says:

    45,,,drugs?

Team needs a serious talent infusion at inside LB. Minimum of two new veteran free agents and a 2nd round draft pick. Here’s the problem. The Glazers are cheap. They won’t pay for an edge rusher. They don’t like to pay cash up front. Thata what it takes to land the big fish. No edge rusher worth a crap will play for Bowles. He’ll have them in coverage 1/2 the game. Bowles is the problem. Kudos to Coen for getting out of here.

When people look at Devin White and wonder what happened to him just look at the date his father passed away and you see his statistics fall off the page.
I really believe he needs that father figure in his life to keep him grounded.
Remember these players come in the league and are just kids.
