Ross Tucker To Bucs Fans: Get Over It!
January 24th, 2025Joe has chatted with Ross Tucker a handful of times at NFL events. Really good guy. Obviously very smart given his Princeton degree and who he played college football with (Kyle Brandt).
And Tucker’s family of football-specific podcasts is among the best things found on the interwebs.
The former NFL offensive lineman has seen the dark side of the NFL, mostly as a backup in his NFL career bouncing from team to team.
So when he witnessed like all Bucs fans the drama that unfolded yesterday afternoon and evening with former Bucs offensive coordinator and new Jags coach Liam Coen staying/not staying/hiding behind his child (allegedly)/secretly flying off to Jacksonville (allegedly)/dodging Bucs calls/texts (allegedly) and then agreeing to run the Jags for some $13 million a year with unforeseen power, Tucker had zero issue with Coen bolting Tampa Bay.
Tucker explains he’s seen first-hand how some NFL teams have treated their employees. As a result, Tucker doesn’t believe it was impersonal or unethical in any way for Coen to do what he did.
Well, Joe does have an issue if what has been reported really did happen (Joe doesn’t have direct access to Bucs’ texts or intercommunications among employees). Joe does have an issue with Coen being less than upfront with the Bucs.
No one has a problem with Coen getting paid. No one has a problem with Coen taking an offer he can’t refuse. How it went down was seedy and shady and unbecoming (allegedly).
Call Joe dumb and or naive, but there is still value in being honest and cordial in this cynical, cruel, cutthroat world.

99% of people would absolutely not have a secret meeting behind the backs of the organization that gave them a chance.

Take a higher paying job – sure! Lie to my current employer (if true) and play the two against each other – absolutely NOT!
Integrity isn’t common though…especially with this dude!
January 24th, 2025 at 10:55 am
Who cares what Ross Tucker thinks? IT’s not what he did, it is the manner in which he did it. Agreeing to work with the Bucs, ghosting them, and sneaking away? The man is a snake.
January 24th, 2025 at 10:57 am
no we wouldn’t. Rule #1 is look out for your own interest, but Rule 1A is ‘do not burn bridges’

January 24th, 2025 at 11:00 am
Obviously Ross knows the wrong type of people. 99.9% would not do it dirty like that. Look at all the comments here on the posts. Not too many agreeing with Coen’s actions.
January 24th, 2025 at 11:00 am
The next best thing is this dude’s MO! Grass isn’t always greener and he will probably learn that lesson the hard way this time! Karma will get this dude and now he has a tarnished reputation. Hope it was worth the few extra Mil!
January 24th, 2025 at 11:00 am
Take heart, Bucs fans. Liam Coen will not have an easy time in Jacksonville.
It’s more important to understand WHY we have had FOUR runaway brides. Time to look in the mirror.
Todd Bowles, albeit a nice man and OK coach, has a 53-65 record as an NFL coach. With the Bucs? 27-24. Yes, we won 4 or 5 divisional titles because our division stinks. Then we get knocked out fast. Do these OC’s know that we will NEVER reach the promised land with TB? I don’t even think it. We are stuck.
Time to get an amazing OC AND a DC. TIme to move on from TB next year if we don’t get to the divisional round. Incredibly frustrating
January 24th, 2025 at 11:02 am
99% of the people would say he is on the doctor with his child?????
really???
Come on Joe I understand you need the clicks but this is pure nonsense!!!
Tucker= Joker
January 24th, 2025 at 11:03 am
Ross Tucker can eat a bag. No one likes to be told how to feel. Stay in your lane Tucks wipe.
January 24th, 2025 at 11:03 am
Would 99.9% of people seek a job that pays vastly more, with total control? Of course.
Would 99.9% of people lie about it? Particularly when telling the truth had no negative consequences? Coen didn’t sign the agreement to be OC, so there was no deal to break.
It was simple courtesy to let Bucs management know that he was going a different direction BEFORE it was all over the news wires. I know I am old fashioned, but even in this age of “me first” moral relativism, I don’t know many folks who would slither off the way Liam did.
January 24th, 2025 at 11:03 am
There are personal, ethical flaws in the NFL and throughout our daily lives. Why should we get over and not push for people to be better in their industry? What Coen did was shady and should be treated as such. I’m all for people to make a better path and money. But there has to be a standard set on ethical behavior. I am certain we will be better off in the end.
January 24th, 2025 at 11:03 am
Meh. This guy resulted in 1 more win, and we REGRESSED in the playoffs, getting knocked out in the first round.
On an offensive play. Yes, great offensive mind, but we didn’t get very far. We have other problems.
I don’t think LIam just started talking to the Jags. Maybe have been talking to them for months,. We will never know.
January 24th, 2025 at 11:04 am
Joe I agree with you, $13 million a year, looks like partial control of a lot of the personnel including the hire of the GM, can’t beat that with a stick but, just have some dignity call the Glazers and say this is a offer you can’t turn down, and again as Joe said , if it did go down as was said yesterday
January 24th, 2025 at 11:05 am
Agreed, I have 0 problem with him taking the job, even if it was in the middle of negotiations with the Bucs, he didn’t violate anything and it’s a HC job, you almost have to take it.
The child story, and ghosting the Bucs is where it’s unbelievable. Heard he did this twice in 3 years with Kentucky so maybe he’s just a shady guy, maybe it’s a good thing we got rid of him. I don’t wish him well at all.
January 24th, 2025 at 11:07 am
It is what it is, yes Coen could have said that he was still in the process of kicking tires BEFORE verbally agreeing to the Bucs offer.
I learned a similar lesson when I was in high school and had tested out the racing sailboat my friends father was selling. I told my friend “ would your dad take , I offered a price but really could not or did not want to buy it. My friends father said yes and then I never did buy, I just didn’t realize the big picture and the etiquette especially with friends.
Not really the same as Coen should know the unwritten rules of negotiation.
He gone!
Go Redskins! Jayden is a VIPER!
Go Bills!
and then watch the Jim Kelly curse revisit the fans
January 24th, 2025 at 11:09 am
I understand the 13mm…..That’s NOT the issue here……
The issue is HOW you do things…….In the past this used to be very important matter, today the only important issue is how big is the check….
Really low class…
But is time to move on form this bastard…
Lets focus on which OC the Bucs will bring, Its the only thing that matters
January 24th, 2025 at 11:10 am
BucsfaninTx, you must have read the same resume I read on Coen when the Bucs hired him. He pretty much did the same thing with the Rams and Kentucky before the Bucs hired him
January 24th, 2025 at 11:12 am
Please Joes!
Start a draft article thread so we can get some much needed distraction!
January 24th, 2025 at 11:12 am
@Joe
Don’t be a child.
The guy has been a job jumper his entire coaching career.
Nothing about this should surprise you.
Just because you went fan boy and got drunk when reports came out the he had signed with us, and now you have egg on your face. Or maybe that’s hair gel….
January 24th, 2025 at 11:13 am
I’m over it. If the allegations are true then yes, it was a sh!tty way of conducting business but at the end of the day it was a business decision. He probably burned his bridge in Tampa, but whether he succeeds or fails in Jacksonville there will likely still be 30 other bridges likely open to him in the NFL (as an OC) as long as he doesn’t flame out ala Urban Meyer fashion in Jacksonville. I do agree with Joe that there is “value in being honest and cordial in this cynical, cruel, cutthroat world”…even if that makes us both naive/dumb. Unfortunately business often is a cutthroat game.
January 24th, 2025 at 11:14 am
Coen after one year as a coordinator will make more than Bowles will as a head coach
That’s gotta hurt Todd BAD
Bucs dropped this badly and kept the guy who runs the weakest part of their team
17 games left of the Todd Blows regime, thankfully

If you’re going to play Monopoly, which is what the NFL is, don’t get mad if you land on Boardwalk with Hotels on it.
Coen, apparently, negotiated and maneuvered his way into not just a Head Coaching job with a huge salary, but also getting a GM he wants to work with.
Bucs will find another OC who will be delighted with the talent the Bucs have on Offense. Hopefully he can coach/minimize the screwups in big games.
January 24th, 2025 at 11:16 am
I guess the Bucs and Dolphins will be exchanging training camp scrimmages for the next few years.
January 24th, 2025 at 11:16 am
I just want to know if Liam Coen and Kirk Cousins have the same agent.
January 24th, 2025 at 11:18 am
Jude
I hate to admit it but I’m in the .1% Perhaps I’m just too dang old and had too many life experiences.
Warning. SCROLL ALERT long possibly boring story to illustrate LC’s situation.
I worked for a radio station in Charlottesville Va and listened to WRVQ Q 94 in Richmond VA. I longed to work there and sent them several “airchecks” audition tapes and got the form letter, dont call us we’ll call you. If you work in Broadcasting long enough you collect a ton of rejection letters.
Fast forward a few years and I hit my peak in radio as a morning guy on WQOK
On billboards, groupies, decent money for the first time in my career but most importantly a young guy, son of the owner, who was an INCREDIBLE manager!
It’s still one of the highlights of my life.
Then the engineer walks in one day and quietly says he overheard and found out that a guy in the restaurant was from of all places WRVQ was in town to listen to my show. They needed a new “morning man” and had heard about me. Neither I nor the engineer ever shared this with our bosses. Why should we?
So I uber prepared for that show and later that day the guy from WRVQ calls up with the offer. 25% more than I was earning and the station I’d tried so hard to reach now offering me their top job.
So THEN I went to the bosses and said if they could match the money I’d stay.
They busted arse, got as creative as possible, 25 cents (it was ’73 lol) per live adlib commercial and other sweeteners to match the offer.
I STAYED and have never regretted it. But if Q 94 had called and upped the offer the same % as the Jags did for LC that MIGHT have been different.
So I don’t wish to be in a glass house tossing stones at LC. I think the way it went down MAY have been shady but we don’t really know the details.
January 24th, 2025 at 11:19 am
Coen? Who’s that?
January 24th, 2025 at 11:20 am
It was cheap and slimy and the players for Jacksonville might be seeing this wishing the owner would sell the team or just trade them.
But 100% of people would do what Coen did just 50% maybe less wouldn’t do it that way, stop pretending that the majority of this country cares about integrity and character, if that were true we would have had better presidential candidates. Didn’t realize people were all over social media freaking out. Apparently people want Coen to fail so much because he was the hopes and dreams of Bucs fans meaning offense rules in the NFL. Even if the Bucs had a top 10 defense people want to see points on the scoreboard.
January 24th, 2025 at 11:23 am
I’m sure with the personnel on the Bucs offense we are going to get another good OC in here. If Liam Coen wants to move on then let him go. Next man up!!!!
January 24th, 2025 at 11:23 am
Fair point by Ross Tucker. NFL teams as a collective whole has a long history of screwing over players and coaches.
January 24th, 2025 at 11:24 am
You’ve successfully talked me down a little, bit too hard on the speculation and rumors. Loved the story about your career, huge congrats man! Glad to see you didn’t use your children’s well-being (allegedly) as a negotiation tactic.
January 24th, 2025 at 11:24 am
I am with zzbucs, time to forget about Coen, he is gone. Bucs should make sure that he can poach only one coach from his former staff.
I have been listening to some of the other podcasts in the Tampa world concerning this and it is obvious that the fans like us and those at OBP are furious and that Coen’s image is pretty tarnished league wise (can coaches and players ever trust this guy as he has zilch integrity) as he kind of pulled a Bobby Petrino/Josh McDaniels tool move.
Additionally, most of the other podcasts seem to think the Bucs should have no problem getting a quality OC, the issue would be having to adopt a new system after just one year yet again. A lot of takes are that one may not like Bowles philosophy on D or clock management skills but he is respected in this league and he has integrity. I do not like his approach to the game but he is respected by his team and his coaches. This act by Coen was a slap in his face. Sure go for the coin Liam but you should have done it in the open and simply let OBP that you have to go back and look into the Jags again, not ghost the people who put you on the map.
January 24th, 2025 at 11:26 am
Something that’s been overlooked in all the Coen drama is the influence Mayfield may have had on the 2 OCs. Someone on the NFL channel on Sirius XM pointed out this morning that neither Canales nor Coen was anyone outside the NFL hierarchy had ever heard of. They come to Tampa as OC for the Bucs and after one year become head coaches for other teams. The point being how much influence did Baker have on their careers? Would they have had the success they did in Tampa with another QB? Something to think about. And, Baker’s now 2 for 2 on getting his OCs a head coaching gig.

Ross Tucker can go pound sand – I have 49 seasons following this team – Ill feel like I want
January 24th, 2025 at 11:27 am
People, you are what you are…..Look how many times this guy has bounced around from team to team, he is searching and never is happy.

Ross Tucker can go pound sand – I have 49 seasons following this team – Ill feel like I want.
January 24th, 2025 at 11:27 am
I have no problem with how he left either. This is a business and he made the best decision for himself. But have no worries. Super Todd is on the case and he will not fail though like his defenses have time and time again!!
January 24th, 2025 at 11:28 am
Hey Ross, smd!
January 24th, 2025 at 11:28 am
“BucsfaninTX” – being from Kentucky (lifetime season ticket holder, both Football & Basketball – dad a big booster)… Hell, I KNEW IT. All Along. And, I’ve said it in the past on here, that HE obviously, has NO loyalty! The BUCS Should’ve KNOWN THIS, Too. They should’ve already had a ‘plan’ in place over a MONTH AGO, instead of freaking out trying to contact HIM all day yesterday. They BLEW-IT. They had him. And, they let him go. For an average 62-year old ‘middle of the road’ (archaic ‘defensive-minded’) HC with a CHEAP ‘buyout’ & who was basically, already on a ‘year-to-year’ basis. And, who will probably be very lucky to make it past NEXT SEASON, regardless. It was SUCH a ‘no-brainer’ move to make from the start and most everyone could see that, especially given ALL of the circumstances surrounding the (easy) decision. And, they just blew-it!
January 24th, 2025 at 11:28 am
Hire Taylor swift
January 24th, 2025 at 11:29 am
HUGE MiSTAKE by Glazers and Licht to let Cohen leave. We will VERY MUCH REGRET this for the next DECADE!!! Bet we will be wanting a new HC in 2026 and wow we will be like would have been nice to have Liam Cohen as an option!!!
January 24th, 2025 at 11:30 am
Don’t care what Ross Tucker says
January 24th, 2025 at 11:30 am
Is what it is
January 24th, 2025 at 11:31 am
Tucker doesn’t get it. It’s not about taking the better deal, but rather how he went about it, allegedly. If those reports are true, I can’t think of a better match than Khan & Coen. They deserve each other.
January 24th, 2025 at 11:32 am
Coen is a dirtbag , not for leaving but for the way he handled the situation. There are better OCs out there. Time to move on , find a new OC and to fix the defense. No more time should be taken thinking about this clown.
January 24th, 2025 at 11:33 am
Good point Pewter Power, how can players or coaches under Coen actually trust this guy when it has been revealed that he does not have the best character as he will lie and be deceitful to get ahead? His credibility is shot. Now the Jag fans do not care about this, they are just giddy that they got their guy but I say to them: “caveat emptor”. We shall see in a year or 2…….. That lie about the kid Coen told Bowles is the icing on the cake.
January 24th, 2025 at 11:33 am
Ok Coen is gone, for me, the drama is over and I am feeling a lil better today. Now I am looking forward to see who the new OC is gonna be and who the Bucs bring in as defensive coaches replacements. I know Rodger’s is gone and it look like a couple more may leave
January 24th, 2025 at 11:33 am
Blow it out your shorts, Ross.
January 24th, 2025 at 11:34 am
Perhaps Coen didn’t want to miss that money train because his last two game plans were $hit
January 24th, 2025 at 11:34 am
Smashsquatch: Birds of a feather flock together: Khan, Tucker and Coen. Tucker does not get it because he probably thinks deceit, ghosting and lying are okay as long as you get what you want.
January 24th, 2025 at 11:35 am
They Blew-It! They had THEIR modern day young offensive STUD play-caller, to go alongside of THEIR ‘Franchise’ QB (that did some VERY ‘special’ things in YEAR ONE)… THE ‘two’ most important positions on the field. Trust think what year TWO, THREE… FIVE, SIX could’ve looked like, with those ‘two’ together, & with this roster and franchise. Just totally, completely, BLEW-IT. 💯
January 24th, 2025 at 11:37 am
@stpetebucsfan …. Love any story that weaves in Q-94, the radio station of my childhood.
January 24th, 2025 at 11:42 am
Let’s go back to Dungy…..did he get blindsided by being fired? Weren’t the Bucs secretly lining up Parcells who then backed out? Wasn’t Gruden blindsided with his firing just after receiving an extension? Let’s not pretend ownership doesn’t play the same game with their staff and players. Its a business, Coen made a business decision that sets his family up for generations.
The entire fanbase wanted Coen to stay even if that meant canning Bowles. As i’ve stated previously, the Bucs were afraid to make a bold move, the Jags were not. At some point you hope the front office recognizes the most successful playoff teams aren’t changing their OC every single year. Frankly the team got what it deserved.
January 24th, 2025 at 11:44 am
If they were ready to make him the highest paid coordinator in league history, then they probably should have been ready to make him the head coach.
January 24th, 2025 at 11:44 am
I was over it before it happened. Coen is free to make his own decisions and I am glad he was here to get us a playoff game in spite of the defense. He put points on the board and did his job well. Godspeed, and thanks for the help. Now find someone new. Hew was like a temp ee. One and done….the Bowles way.
January 24th, 2025 at 11:47 am
The issue lies in the NFL’s policy that allows coaches to vacate their contracts as long as it’s for a promotion. In my opinion, coaches should be required to fulfill the terms of their agreements, just as players are obligated to do. This constant coaching turnover not only diminishes the quality of the product on the field but also disrupts fan loyalty and experience.
Because of the constant turnover, questionable refereeing, and exorbitant costs to be a fan, I’m thinking it’s time for me to tune out from the NFL.
January 24th, 2025 at 11:47 am
First time I heard Tucker talk football I was impressed with the dude because.
A: He played
B: He played O line
C: He obviously knew his stuff
Over the last year or so he has successfully destroyed that first impression. This is just the latest example of it. Another ex player desperate to stay relevant. Spouting whatever he thinks will do that.
Go Bucs!

People have oversimplified things way too much. No I sure as heck wouldn’t have handled it the way he did and I suspect most people wouldn’t. Taking the job is one thing, but it’s both stupid and irresponsible to do make the circus he did. He also does t have the clout to be raising his middle finger at front offices yet so he’d better hope it works out. He has one good year as a play caller. He simply had to tell them hr needed more time or similar. Or that he’d consider coming back but wanted to pursue it further first whether that was at his old contract or something a bit higher. Glazers just wanted to avoid more back and forth and didn’t want to be negotiated even higher after second interview
January 24th, 2025 at 11:49 am
Great story – stpetebucsfan!
January 24th, 2025 at 11:51 am
Also if i made a bunch of drama at an old work place I run trh risk of working for/woth thr same people at a future job. People move around in my industry and not unusual to run into them again. I don’t see how NFL is that much different in that sense
January 24th, 2025 at 12:01 pm
This is the lague that continues to hire Josh McDaniel after the Colts fiasco. Just sayin
January 24th, 2025 at 12:03 pm
I’m not sure 99.9% of people are willing to live in Jacksonville, FL under any circumstances so…
January 24th, 2025 at 12:05 pm
Couldn’t agree with you more, Joe. Jacksonville is the bottom of the snake pit. Terrible management. Now Coen gets to choose the new GM. Who is going to want to work with this guy? What does he know about hiring coaches and coordinators? Talk about a risky hire! How will he be able to compete effectively for a defensive coaching staff? They have four west coast games next year and one in London. As soon as they post totals, load up on Jacksonville UNDER! The Over/Under for Coen lasting at Jacksonville should be two years.
January 24th, 2025 at 12:16 pm

Possibly the dumbest guy I’ve worked with had a degree from Harvard.
Forget Coen. There’s other OCs out there just as good and with more integrity. Young guys coming up would love to come to Tampa, with all the talent and the pipeline to head coaching jobs intact. Bowles seems to know how to spot them.
I’d most like to see the Bucs bring in Mike Zimmerman as assistant head coach/defensive coordinator.
January 24th, 2025 at 12:24 pm
“Zimmer”
January 24th, 2025 at 12:30 pm
A big problem in our world right now is people bending over backwards to defend this kind of business dealing. Dodging calls and lying about your whereabouts using a supposed sick kid as cover after having a handshake deal in place is a scumbag way to do business. That is not a subjective take. Defending this as normal or ethical is just as bad. It was wrong, period. Even if it’s true that “99% would do the same thing” (it’s not), doesn’t make it right.
January 24th, 2025 at 12:38 pm
@Jude and Baker Bowl
THANKS. I sometimes fear my stories bore so I give fair warning. To have 3 people read it relieves me. Long stories are not for everyone and I get that but appreciate those like them.
BucinVA I bet you had some serious fun rocking out to Q 94. They were one of my favorites when I worked in VA. And unusual at the tme they had 200,000 watts of power. You could hear them clearly all the way to Charlottesville.
January 24th, 2025 at 12:40 pm
Tucker is right. It’s a tough business and you gotta toughen up. If Baker got hurt next year and the Bucs shat the bed and the staff got fired, there would be zero people feeling sorry for him. It’s not fun to say but he dont owe us or the Glazers anything.
January 24th, 2025 at 12:55 pm
There was a time where being a man of your word meant something in society, sad how much mankind has changed. And it’s not about the NFL rules and norm of allowing all coaches to move up to advance their careers, I’m onboard with that in our free enterprise society and have done the same myself. However, a man giving another their word speaks of their integrity.
Coen accepted the Bucs salary increase, reached out to staff and players telling them he was looking forward to getting on the practice field with them soon, and then went dark and slithereed away in the shadows like all snakes do.
Good riddance Coen, you are not THAT special and you’ve only proven how little your words really mean. You ARE NOT worthy of being our Buccaneer OC, let alone the future HC-in-waiting. Your lack of integrity will not be missed.
January 24th, 2025 at 1:09 pm
Tucker is one of the biggest douches. He’s on Philly talk radio a lot n man he’s downright annoying!!
January 24th, 2025 at 2:42 pm
It’s not that Coen left the Bucs organization, it’s the way he left. The guy has proven over and over he has no ethics, with UK, the Rams and now the Bucs. Good riddance, time to move on. Respect for Canales, no respect for Coen.
January 24th, 2025 at 3:40 pm
EVEN IF 99% of people would of made the SAME DECISION COEN MADE-
99% of PEOPLE WOULD NOT NOT NOT DONE IT IN THIS OUTRIGHT DISHONEST MANNER-I MEAN HE EVEN TXTD PLAYERS AND COACHES CONFIRMING HE WAS STAYING-THUS, THE BUCS MISSED THE DECEPTIVE MOVE-MANNUEVERING
PLZ DONT SHOW US ANY MORE PICS OF THIS SNAKEAND THEN , WE WILL MOVE ON WITH ABOVEBOARD COACHES AND PLAYERS AND TAMPA BUCSWINS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
January 24th, 2025 at 4:20 pm
I agree. Get over it Buc fans. Ruck up. Everybody plays the fool sometimes..there is no excepption to the rule. We got had. Jags owner took out that pocketbook and started writing them zero’s. Coen’s eyes widened, and handshakes took place. Its over. Time to dock the pirate ship for more supplies.
January 24th, 2025 at 5:32 pm
I listen to Ross Tucker’s podcast and he frequently says fan is short for fanatical so instead of telling us to ‘Get over it’, he needs to use that Ivy League brain of his and allow us to follow his own advice.
We will get over it when we are good & goddamned ready to, who the hell is he to tell us when to get over anything?
