Mike Evans May Have Won The Final Battle

January 18th, 2025

Still a beast.

For the national media, the game Sunday night between the Bucs and the Commandos wasn’t so much Washington vs. Tampa Bay or even Jayden Daniels vs. Baker Mayfield.

No, it was Marshon Lattimore vs. Mike Evans.

Those two have a long history of fighting (literally) a couple of times a year. In November, the slimy Saints traded Lattimore to the Commandos. So the first time the two squared off was Sunday in the wild card round.

It sure looked like Lattimore, 28, is on the downside of his career. Evans toyed with him and then schooled Lattimore for a touchdown.

Evans worked Lattimore so much that it had Shannon Sharpe laughing out loud on his podcast “Nightcap,” co-hosted with Chad Johnson.

“It wasn’t the same,” Johnson said of the expected duel between Evans and Lattimore.

“Mike cooked him!” Sharpe laughed, interrupting Johnson.

“Mike got him, he did,” Johnson said trying not to laugh as Sharpe giggled in the background. “Mike got the best of him.”

Sharpe said Evans had a full campground setup inside Lattimore’s head.

“It got so bad Lattimore was trying to hip-drop tackle him!” Sharpe bellowed. “You see that on every play. That man tried to hip-drop tackle him on every play.

“I was like, ‘C’mon, man!”

It was a wonderful thing to see. And Sharpe was right, Lattimore was so angry he looked like he was trying to take Evans out.

Once a slimy Saint, always a slimy Saint.

Sunday night might be the last time we see Evans and Lattimore square off. The Bucs and Commandos, barring another playoff matchup, are not scheduled to play each other until 2027.

Who knows if Evans and/or Lattimore will even be in the league then? Evans will turn 32 in training camp. Lattimore turns 29 in May.

Lattimore is playing football this weekend.

Evans is on the golf course.

I’d say that’s a win for the slimy former Saint.

    28-27

    Fire Bowles now!

I think the point of the article was about individual battles not team battles . That’s what I got from it .

  3. firethecannons Says:

Glad I got to witness that, Evans was dialed in on Sunday, he was focused and was dominant over lattimore. Sorry we hardly had the ball and when we did we spent too much time trying to run it even when they had all their guys all at the line of scrimmage. We just never got to play our game. Defense couldn’t get them off the field and we made mistakes when we did have it, not a good showing.

  4. OHBucFan Says:

Mike will retire a Buc. It will be interesting to see what NO does with the draft picks they received from Washington for Lattimore.

  5. Durango 95 Says:

After watching the Buccaneers defense have another one of its game costing collapses I’m pretty sure that Lattimore is the one laughing right now.

Or are we still trying to draw attention away from that ongoing mess by pretending that Baker’s fumble cost them the game.

*When it comes to CTB you must tread lightly*.

Mike is amazing. What a great player!

  6. Aqualung Says:

Algo Rhythm says Todd Bowles is great.

  7. garro Says:

That was the true bright spot of the game foe me. Seeing Latimore getting abused by Mike and Baker was the most fun I have had this season. Then in true Saints fashon he resorts to the cheap shots. Perfect!

    What a POS.

    Go Bucs!

  8. Fred McNeil Says:

Cheap shots are ingrained in all old Saints players. The Broncos will become the dirtiest team in the league soon. What will the league do when a Saint assassin takes out Mahomes?

  9. heyjude Says:

Mike had a great game on Sunday. So disappointed the Bucs didn’t win.

Lattimore never changed. Seems to be that entire Bounty-Gate mentality is still there wherever they go.

  10. Half_Sac Says:

Besides that scheduled date couldn’t they be matched up in one of the additional games decided by placement within the division?

  11. Vanessa Anne Says:

I was so happy to see Mike outplay Lattimore.

He was totally dialed in and focused, and it showed in the way he ran his routes, caught the ball and scrambled for YAC.

Like everyone else, I was also concerned about Lattimore trying to pull a cheap shot.

@Fred McNeil… I’ve been saying the same thing to myself about the Broncos.

  12. bob in valrico Says:

Agree with Fire the Cannons, we didn’t spread the ball around to other weapons
not named Evans. Mike had the hot hand in the first half, we should have gotten more targets to him and more than 2 receptions from Otten and Macmillan. This simple math is why we lost, IMO. Td +extra point> than 2 Field goals. Overall
considering the challenges faced by injuries to the defense we beat expectations.
WE should have advanced farther in the playoffs were it not for curious playcalls
like Baker trying to get 3 inches and failing. Second and short is a great time to go for a Td, if nothing is open you can still throw it away.

  13. Hodad Says:

Mike’s under contract, and will be trying to break the record for most 1000 yard seasons. He ain’t going anywhere. Lattimore might be out of the league, but 1000 percent Evans will be Joe.

  14. Beeej Says:

I believe Mike benefited from watching his Brady took care of his body. I doubt that man has sniffed a pizza since 2019

  15. Christina Olive Says:

Evans is a beast! Anyone saying he lost because the team lost is an idiot.

  16. Gofortheface30 Says:

Oh golly gee whiz bob in Valrico what a novel concept. Brilliant. Yes, I agree, everyone should have had 10 catches and Bucky should have had 30 carries as well, and the Bucs should have had 55 minutes time of possession. Eyeroll. Buddy – you get the ball to your best players. You don’t stop throwing to Evans because *oh no he’s getting the ball too much.* The Bucs rarely had the f’ing ball, what exactly do you expect when mayfield only had 18 pass attempts. Maybe tell your defense to stop playing bend but don’t break defense that basically lets the opposing team gets first down after first down after first down

  17. Senor Harry in Costa Rica Says:

Thank you Gofortheface30. That was spot on. I was just too lazy to write the same thing. Besides, I think said it better than I would have.

“…tell your defense to stop playing bend but don’t break defense…” THAT is what cost the Bucs the game.

  18. vadertime Says:

Evans is on his way to the HOF, but the same cannot be said of the other Bucaneers. Evans did his part, but both the offense and the defense failed to live up to their potential and the fact that the loss happened at home pours salt on that open wound.

As someone in this thread pointed out, Lattimore is playing in the divisional round while Evans is propably goiing to be playing golf this weekend. Go Bucs. Cheers.

  19. Buc4evr Says:

That was a strange take to be honest. This is a team sport and the Bucs are not playing this weekend. There is no victory in meaningless one on one matchup stories if the Bucs lose.

  20. Durango 95 Says:

Aqualung and the Algo Rhythm. It’s a great pair.

  21. Aqualung Says:

Aqualung agrees with Durango. Bucs are in the couch. Lattimore is about to cover Amon St Brown.

    It’s pretty obvious who won.

  22. Bucs on a couch Says:

Evans won the battle of getting away with offensive PIs, and now he gets to watch the rest of the post season with his teammates. Hopefully Baker doesn’t fumble the pizza rolls.

  23. SenileSenior Says:

I will watch Lattimore vs St Brown a little more closely tomorrow.

  24. Joe Says:

I believe Mike benefited from watching his Brady took care of his body

Evans has said that. He is also a TB12 believer.

  25. Allen Lofton Says:

Lattimore needs a strong warning from the NFL. His play is to take out players.
The Judges need to warn him or he will be kept of the game and the NFL brass and the owners of team need to all send strong message.
That kind of play is unacceptable.
Put player safety ahead of profits.

  26. BA’s Red Pen Says:

F Lattermoron, dirty player and I would not be surprised if he gets caught kicking puppies.

  27. al Says:

1,000 yards, but needed 17 games for 3 of those years. not impressed.

  28. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Al

    You don’t math very well
