Jason Licht Lauds “Remarkable” Todd Bowles Record

January 14th, 2025

Bucs GM Jason Licht

Joe knows there are still media types and fans in disbelief that Todd Bowles will be the 2025 Buccaneers head coach.

Joe sort of understands.

Heck, Joe was in disbelief when the Bucs decided to bring Doug Martin back for the 2017 season.

But that was a very different situation. Martin had a drug problem and was suspended to start the 2017 season after averaging 2.9 yards per carry in 2016. Bowles has clean urine, has built an impressive team culture and has won three consecutive division titles.

Sports columnist John Romano of TampaBay.com — the internet arm of Tampa Bay’s pay-per-view, twice-weekly community newspaper — popped a piece today addressing fans wanting Bowles launched now.

Romano talked to Buccaneers Ring of Honor general manager Jason Licht, who gave another endorsement of Bowles’ work.

They won 10 games, and another division title.

“It’s just kind of the cycle that we’re in with this team,” general manager Jason Licht said a few days before the Commanders game. “Two years ago when we had the — I don’t want to say rebuild — but we knew it was going to take some time to fill every spot on the defense. Is there some spots that we could add to? Of course. But it takes time.

“And what he has done with what we have, I think, has been remarkable.”

Joe’s not going to run through a laundry list of Bowles achievements and underachievements. Did the Bucs lose a very winnable playoff game at home on Sunday? Damn right.

But the reality is Bowles has the team going in a good direction with a franchise quarterback who respects him, and he’s shown he’s open to making adjustments.

Plus, the Bucs have been operating at a salary cap deficit that has nothing to do with Bowles and everything to do with glorious overspending during the Tom Brady era.

Fans have various stances on Bowles, and Joe thinks that’s healthy. Regardless, the head coach is not going anywhere for the 2025 season, despite wild theories being floated across town.

Hate to be the one to break it to you big guy. But this team with its current head coach is going in the wrong direction. Don’t delude yourself. Perhaps that’s a new nickname for Licht, “Big guy.” –Joe

  2. FlBoy84 Says:

Sadly, and for the first time ever, actually don’t give a sh#t about the draft this year due to ZERO confidence that Bowles & his D staff can develop anyone that’s chosen. This team isn’t one player away or lacking talent in the least, the entire issue is extremely poor D scheme and coaching, and that’s been proven repeatedly over these last few years. The fact that ownership & the FO are evidently blind to that fact makes following this team a simple act of frustration, thankfully there are WAY better things to do with that time.

  3. ElioT Says:

Just need six-seven new starters on defense and they’re good to go!

    Watch out NFL!!!

  4. Couch Fan Says:

He took a super bowl winning team and turned it into a .500 squad that cant go deep into the playoffs.

I fail to see how this is going in the right direction.

  5. WilieG Says:

I can’t blame Bowles for the injuries which is what I think the biggest problem was. I also can’t blame him for the lack of depth on defense or the lack of quality linebackers (besides the Great One, LVD), or edge rushers. I can’t blame him for crappy officiating which cost us 2 or 3 games.

I can blame him for poor clock management and being a bit too conservative still. He has improved a lot in those areas though, IMO.

Hopefully he gets some great new players on defense in the draft and wins 11-12 next season and goes deep into the playoffs

  6. Dom>Licht Says:

4th off season in a that our greatest need is a pass rusher! So does Jason suck when draft edge rushers or does this coaching staff and their scheme that make his picks suck?

  7. Durango 95 Says:

I can honestly say as a fan of this team since its inception my level of enthusiasm is at its lowest point since going into James Winston’s final season. Hate to feel that way but despite all the good things that can be said about CTB I know he will never be the coach needed to take this krewe back to the land of the glorious Lombardi. Yep Joe, I agree, “Big Guy” for JL seems to work pretty well.

  8. El HEFE Says:

I feel like our fan base got spoiled after Tom Brady came and left. We got a Super Bowl all of a sudden everybody is talking like we should be top number one every year this year we went through the defensive blues. Everybody got hurt from left to right everybody. Not just the Defense, but the offense, too honestly a quarter of the year, we barely had all of our Lyman healthy on the field for offense on Defense, everybody got hurt at least once through the season i’m not saying Todd balls is the best head coach but I don’t think half of you guys are giving the man a fair shake and honestly I’m looking at it. It could be because of his skin color because if you’re a fan, you know nobody has been healthy this year people keep on talking about other teams and they were hurt. Yeah they were hurt. How many of them had Tom Brady a few years ago and is still dealing with the cap hit nobody but us now look if we go through next year with anything less than 10 wins with people that we bring in through free agency and the draft fire him

  9. SlyPirate Says:

    FlBoy84 Says:

    ^^^^^^^

I agree Bowles cannot develop a pass rusher. Stop drafting OLB. They need to address the pass rush in FA. They have drafted and develop DBs extremely well. CDIII, Dean, AWJ, Zyon, Izen, Tykee, etc. I’d love to see a CB in the 1st or 2nd … or both.

  10. PSL Bob Says:

We need to set some standards if he’s going to continue as HC. We know how much the offense improved this year (e.g., avg points/game, no yards rushing, avg yds/game, etc.)

For some of you stat geeks out there, let’s set target goals. If he doesn’t hit them next year, he’s gone. (e.g., rank in total defense, number of sacks from edge rushers, number of passing yards given up, etc.)

  11. Marine Buc Says:

The Bucs lost 6 games by one score or less and lost both overtime games…

The only close game the Bucs won was in Detroit.

    Why?

  12. Couch Fan Says:

There we go with the race baiting. Has top be skin color. It cant possibly be because of anything else because he’s been such a perfect head coach. LMAO

  13. Tbbucs3 Says:

“ I agree Bowles cannot develop a pass rusher.”

LMAO! You idiots will blame Bowles for everything, How about blame the guy who can’t draft a pass rusher in his 10 years of being a GM?

  14. Couch Fan Says:

You mean the GM who gets the players the HC wants… Well, gee that kind of sounds like the GM works for the HC… The HC develops the player…. So if the HC fails to develop the player shouldn’t he get some blame also?

Or does that not count since it makes your whole “Our GM sucks but not the coach” narrative invalid?

  15. ocala Says:

I have been a big fan of Jason Licht, but I think he is wrong about the Bucs head coach. He does a very poor job with game management and his defenses are getting worse. The franchise hit the lottery with Baker and Coen but will not be able to take the next step with Coach Bowles running the team and defense.

  16. Tbbucs3 Says:

Not sure if you’re aware, Couch fan, But this team has had pass rush issues long before Todd Bowles ever arrived in Tampa under Jason Licht.

  17. K Says:

Stop making excuses. What does this have to do with his piss poor clock management? Getting killed by QB’s that do nothing against any other defense? Pathetic to make excuses for Bowles

  18. Pahpahmike Says:

All in all, my opinion is the Bucs are trending in the right direction. I know opinions are like As. …es everybody has one. True the Bucs are very inconsistent and that’s on Bowles somewhat however, his assistants are also a little responsible too and we all know how loyal he is to his defensive assistants. Just think if not for Mayfield’s interception last year we have been in the championship game or possible the Super Bowl. Fast forward to this year again Mayfield fumble that seems to have took the wind out of the Bucs sails Sunday night and it’s no telling at how far they would gone even with a mediocre defense So blame Bowles if you may

  19. Tbbucs3 Says:

Going on 11 draft classes now, The best Jason Licht has to show for with a pass rusher is a fringe starter in Yaya Diaby.

  20. BucsfaninOregon Says:

Of the above 8 comments the only one I agreed with is FL84. I give a shet who the Bucs draft at 19. We get a hot looking Edge rusher (Braswell), then spend all pre-season reading about how great a year he is going to have. Then what–we never see him again until the latter part of the year- -if then.

Why draft a college player if it takes them a year or two to produce? Why draft (#1 or #2 = JTS) a tweener, who can’t rush or cover (who knows maybe one but not both) and is a total BUST.

If I were drafting DBs, the absolute must is good at man to man. Therefore, if injuries wreck a competent zone coverage they can always revert to man to man. It seems to me that injuries is an excuse to have zone coverage (that doesn’t work). This defense will ALWAYS be suspect with this defensive coaching staff.

Many more like JTS and Hall and Licht should take another job.
    Who cares who we draft?
Barton was a good pick, a #1 pick who produces 1st year. That’s how it is supposed to be. Too bad it isn’t.

  21. Couch Fan Says:

And we still have pass rush issues every year under Bowles tenure. He clearly hasent helped in that regard or much else on defense…. Now we can bring in new talent but they all wont be 1st round picks so do we give him a pass next year to until he has a chance to select all 1st round picks?

You are acting as if he has had no input in the draft process. How long are we suppose to give him? 8 years? maybe 10 to make sure we are correct?

  22. shane Says:

I just want to know if these JoeBucsFans Blogs lately are purposely trying to p*ss off everyone here??? It’s a sore subject with us, followers, right now…please give us time to recuperate from Sunday night’s game…we are vulnerable right now, don’t you see this???

  23. No Mercy Says:

I agree with Licht, this defense is a ton a pieces away from being Super Bowl contenders with or without Bowles. Our corners are trash, our safeties are trash besides winfield, and we don’t have any true consistent top tier edge rusher. And without Godwin we simply can’t move the chains as consistent either

  24. Nicholas Carlson Says:

He’s fine to goo. You can win a super bowl with a fine to good coach:

    Doug Pederson
    Gary Kubiak
    Mike McCarthy
    Tony Dungy
    Brian Billick

What you need to get is elite talent. The Bucs do not have elite talent. Maybe Vea. Maybe Lavonte. Winfield was in 2023 but not 2024.

The hope (that hated word) for 2025 is that:
Vea holds on and Winfield gets it back..
McCollum, Smith, Diaby, and Kancy hit another gear.
The Bucs add an impact safety, CB, ILB, and Edge through draft or free agency.

They have a lot of cap space finally and a coach FAs want to play for and a QB they want to play with.

    Licht is good a drafting.

If they make a good plan and execute it, this team could win 14 games next year. That should be their expectation.

  25. Nicholas Carlson Says:

*The Bucs do not have elite talent… on defense. They have a ton on offense. Great line. Great RB. Very good QB. Great WRs. Good TEs.

  26. Joeybagodonuts Says:

Bowles seems like a nice guy and clearly the team likes him. Other than that I’m not sure of any redeeming qualities. I’ve seen numerous games during the season where the team looks like it’s driving on four flat tires. The only reason for this is a head coach that doesn’t prepare and/or motivate the team.

  27. DBS Says:

As long as the Glazer family says he’s the Coach.. He’s the Coach.

  28. Pewter Power Says:

Thanks Bowles and Licht for making the fan base even more delusional than they already were. They say there’s no talent on the roster then say you need to draft all defensive players expecting them to hit as of a head coach’s job isn’t to develop talent. I remember back when Jamel Dean used to have a Super Bowl ring. How can guys you pay big money to get worse in a matter of a couple years. JTS has this high pressure rate but isn’t getting home. Coaches haven’t figured out in 5 years why he hasn’t been able to finish a sack and yaya is actually following in his foot steps. Great Bowles is winning titles in a division with a bunch of new coaches starting their programs. Yes he was better than Dennis Allen and Arthur smith.

  29. BucsFan81 Says:

I still stand by this isn’t a talent issue. This is a coaching issue and staying healthy issue. We need some help on defense yes but the main factor is Bowles and some of his dumb in game decisions and clock management along with his defense scheme being horrible.

  30. El HEFE Says:

If Todd bowels doesn’t come back next year, neither will Lavonte and that’s a guarantee

  31. Rich Says:

Everyone should digest the games lost in overtime and one score….good coaches are so much better than ours…he’s just not a top tier coach…face it people. Keeping him around because the culture is “great” is just ridiculous!!! There’s way too much inconsistency and to imply that another year will change things is also ridiculous….look back at last year and the year before. The same old stuff was being written and spoken by Licht too. The nfl is a win now league and to keep a head coach because he’s a nice guy and the culture is good equals LOSING. Try looking at the old sale closing technique..all plus/ good things on one side of the paper vs all the negative/ bad things on the other side. Be objective and list all the good vs bad and see what is prevalent…its really scary and must lead to a new HC!!!

  32. HC Grover Says:

Another trip around the Sun. We are so average. Whoop de Doo! Gimme da check.

  33. Andy Says:

We are embracing mediocrity so bowles is safe.

  34. Bucnjim Says:

The most disappointing thing for this D was only 7 interceptions and they never seemed to be anywhere near the receiver or the ball. This makes our offense even more impressive to have to drive the length of the field on every possession. We are in desperate need of a Mayfield on the defense. Someone to lead by example and make plays when we need one.

  35. Matt_PcAfee Says:

We won the SB and have been competitive every year since. I don’t think that 1 Bucs fan, if asked before the Superbowl win would turn this down. If you told me we would win but then suck again for another 5 years I would gladly take that offer. We are beating the expectation of parity.

  36. Jehzsa Says:

Why don’t the Bucs fire the defensive coordinator?

    ***sarcasm off***

  37. IrishTony Says:

The fans demand you fire him ASAP.

  38. Nick2 Says:

1-3 in the playoffs that’s the record I would focus on.

  39. VOT Says:

I thought my job was the only place that thought being average was acceptable but nope, it’s like that at One Buc Place also – mediocrity is our expectation nowadays

Anyone with eyes can see Todd will never win a SB as a HC, so plainly we don’t want to win another one

  40. Alanbucsfan Says:

How many Bucs fans would’ve predicted a Bucs win over Washington if they knew in advance the Bucs offense would only score 20 points?
The Bucs offense had a 2nd and 1 on the 12 yard line and screwed it up to only get a FG, and they fumbled away the ball on their own 15 yard line after the Defense held on a 4th down, gifting the Commanders a TD opportunity.
In between the Offense sputtered on 3 other possessions, not sustaining drives or playing with rhythm or efficiency.
Yes, The Defense is not that good and isn’t the reason the Bucs were in the playoffs, but they played well enough to win that game.

  41. SBucs Says:

Mediocre breeds mediocre. Jason ‘remarkably lucky’ Lights and Todd ‘Toilet’ Bowles are made for each other. WTF? congratulating each other on winning the worst division in football with so-so record is outrageous.

  42. OR Buc Says:

I seem to be in the minority, but I have faith. 4 straight years of playoff football with a couple wins mixed in, is certainly better than a few garbage years like the rams. Rams have only made it to the dance the last couple years with 1 win and they won’t be making it all the way. And that’s with Sean McVay as coach. And it would be tough for any team to overcome the loss of CG12, plus the entire secondary being decimated by injuries all year, plus one of the youngest teams in the league, plus salary cap constraints.

I have faith in this organization.

  43. shane Says:

Lot’s of furious bucs’ fans on JoeBucsFans blogs now!!!

Washington’s OC Kingsbury running off the field into tunnel after the game, yelling “zero punts,” sums up the Buccaneer’s pathetic defense for the game…for the year!

If you think this is disheartening, wait until the Lions “banged up” defense show a rookie QB how a real defense plays…and then, the Bucs’ fans will be even more furious on the JoeBucsFans Blogs….

  44. Ol' Boy Says:

The real hero of the division title win is Dan Quin, not Bowles. They saved us, and then cast us aside like a bad date. Haha
Thank you Dan the hero for saving Todd’s job as well. Jl and Todd owe you big

  45. Gipper Says:

    Alanbucsfan Says:

    ————————————————–
“They played well enough to win that game.” You watched a different game than we did. Washington wasn’t forced to punt ONCE. When it really mattered with 4:40 left in the game, Washington drove the length of the field to kick a field goal. It they needed more, does anyone believe they wouldn’t have gotten the TD. The defense this year was softer than a giant roll of Charmin.

  46. Thomas51 Says:

I have been a Bucs fan since the beginning. I hate we lost in the playoffs. Wish I could have said that 7 or 8 years ago. As a business owner for 40 years I would absolutely not fire Bowles this year. Patience sometimes pays off.

  47. BucfaninMi Says:

He has come around a lot lately, let’s Liam do his thing. But maybe he gets a DC. That’d be best I think. Focus more on in game situations

  48. HC Grover Says:

    ROFL!!! anything for the Benjamins.

  49. BucfaninMi Says:

@Gipper they probably would have won minus the fumble.

  50. SenileSenior Says:

Keeping or firing Todd is a business decision. Jason Licht will make it on behalf of the Glazers.

Go Bucs! I am part of your minority, OR. Go Bucs!

  51. Bartow Buc Says:

I am confident that Coach Bowles would benefit immensely from hiring an experienced defensive coordinator to help update the defense. Combine this move with a few new defensive draft picks and we will be in a good position to make another run next year.
The hiring of a defensive coordinator with harder work on perfecting and executing plays, and the Buccaneers should be in position to make a deep run in the 2025/26 playoffs.

    Go Bucs !!

  52. Jacob Says:

Licht has a different view than the fans for sure. We’ve gone through a soft rebuild and had more success than we’ve had any business having in that process. There’s even still dead cap from Jensen and a few others, so we’re not totally out of the woods there yet. One more good draft and a few smart FA pickups puts the team in Superbowl contention. Tbh I think we’re right there with a healthy Godwin and an average defense this year(which we obviously didn’t have). I do trust Licht to make the right decisions.

  53. shane Says:

from a previous statement: the question is not “How many Bucs fans would’ve predicted a Bucs win over Washington if they knew in advance the Bucs offense would only score 20 points?”

the real question would be: How many Bucs fans would’ve predicted a Bucs win over Washington if they knew in advance the Bucs defense allowed:

    1.) 18 play drive
    2.) 17 minute drive
3.) Washington to have the ball for 36 minutes
4.) Mayfield threw the ball 18 times (15-18)
5.) Buccaneers running backs ran only 18 times
    6.) Washington punted “zero” times

Personally, I would had predicted: Washington 33-10 victory.

Overall, computer analytics state the score on average would have been:

    27-13 Washington….

so please, for the usual 3-4 individuals on here, just accept that the Bucs’ defense just sucks

  54. Dan b Says:

I don’t remember people calling for Bruce Arians to be fired. He was not perceived as being somewhat incompetent. Why is that the case now? I like Ty balls, but our record is mediocre. .500 ball. Not good

  55. Jacob Says:

Bowles is never hiring a DC, he calls the plays and runs the defense….that is his thing. I think he could definitely benefit from some better coaches on his staff though. What our corners and non-Lavonte LB’s do in coverage is infuriating, and the development of our edge rushers has been non-existent.

Here’s the thing though…Licht has a different view on this than fans do. We’ve gone through a soft rebuild and had more success than expected all the way through it. Tbh this current team is a Superbowl contender with a healthy Godwin and average defensive play(which we may have had if healthy). One more good draft and a smart FA signing or two puts us right back in the mix. I trust that Licht is correct and that we’re on a positive path.

  56. Dubcity Says:

Now the fans know more than Lavonte and Jason Litch.

JPP left, got replaced w JTS
    SUH with HALL
Carlton Davis and Devin White would both be upgrades right about now

That’s why Jason Litch said it takes time. replacing great players doesn’t always work out. they’ve had success thru a major transition period and that’s more than they expected in the front office

Litch is literally telling you this same thing. but no, yall know better

Fans only know how to blame a coach or blame a QB

  57. BradyGronk fan Says:

I came over here with Tom Brady and the Bucs were a No Risk It No Biscuit team. If you didn’t have that attitude, you wouldn’t have won your 2nd SB.

Then along came Bowls and it’s been about being cautious. Guess what, the defense is not an elite defense so not a good idea to count on them on a close game. The defense needed to take some chances and not let the opponent dominate the time of possession. If the defense gives up points, they give up points.

But the point is, your offense is elite and they need to be on the field scoring points,.. Ala Brees and the Saints when they had a bad D.

  58. BradyGronk fan Says:

This Bowles attitude is about being happy squeaking into the playoff in a bad division. Then losing in the 1st or 2nd round.

The Bucs need to take chances to go for that SB starting with firing Bowles. They took a chance with way past his prime Brady, injury prone Gronk, mental case AB. And of course the whole Biscuit philosophy.

  59. Dubcity Says:

The time of possession is also on the offense.. Jalen McMillan dropped a crucial pass that would’ve given Bucs a first down and extend the drive. The fumble of course, but also tons of flags on offense. The team blew it, but the Commanders are also a a 13-5 team that beat the Falcons and Cowboys, teams the Bucs lost against. That was a good football team… yall act like they lost to the Browns in the playoffs by 40 points.. it was a 1 possession game.. like a fumbled possession

  60. Winny Testaverde Says:

Is Belichick laying in the weeds…hoping The Bros. Glazer come a calling? Probably not…but it would make next season more exciting/interesting.

  61. Fred Says:

Bowles and Dean should be with another team next year.

  62. GoneGator Says:

    @Shane
Stop beating that dead horse. It’s been CLEARLY explained to you that time of possession is NOT JUST on the defense.

A couple more 1st downs, or less penalties on offense etc etc and all of a sudden time of possession is equal or even flipped. What stopped us from having sustained drives like Washington had? Answer that please.

Yes, our D failed to stop them often enough – we’re not the steel curtain.
BUT again, what happens if we JUST take advantage of opportunities we had.

We had equal chances to put drives together, eat time, and score points.

Team loss including offense regardless of what some of you blather on about here. Smh

  63. shane Says:

Jallen McMillan did drop a pass but the Bucs picked up the first down on the next play…so this is an irrelevant point…sorry Dubcity

    Lets focus on this:

WASHINGTON HAD “ZERO” PUNTS…when was the last time a team lost without punting the ball once???

I guarantee you if the Browns just played the Bucs without having to punt the ball once, even with Winston as QB, I would take the Browns, anytime…

  64. Dubcity Says:

And yet, if they didn’t fumble they win regardless 🤷

  65. LakelandSteve Says:

The Bucs better draft just about all defense this draft. We could use a non fragile cornerback to replace Mr. glass (Dean). But, if they can get a top linebacker in the first round they need to draft him because there is no guarantee Lavonte is coming back. Resigning Godwin is a must and for Gods sake can we find a punt returner.

  66. shane Says:

In over 14,000 NFL games, only 5 teams have lost a game without punting the ball once….JUST 5!!!!

Prior to this season, no rookie quarterback in NFL history had ever led his team to a game with no turnovers and no punts.

Teams going a full game without a turnover or punt is extremely rare: There have only been 42 such games in the NFL since 1950.

But those games were a lot more common this season, as Daniels and the Commanders did it three times, Jared Goff and the Lions did it three times, Joe Burrow and the Bengals did it once and Tua Tagovailoa and the Dolphins did it once.

Goff’s Lions and Daniels’ Commanders will meet on Saturday night in a game between two of the quarterbacks who, between them, have 17 percent of the no-turnover, no-punt games in NFL history. (Goff and the Lions also did it once in 2022.) Expect some offensive fireworks.

  67. HC Grover Says:

Bowles is the best thing since sliced bread. What a coach…..

  68. jaymus Says:

We need to bring David and godwin back, those guys are necessary to keep. i will say this; if we dont have a breakout season next year, we definitely do need a new head coach. winning this division isnt hard and i cant be the only one that sees the panthers only getting better with no other than our old OC.
im not saying i am a huge fan of bowles, he does more wrong then he does good. i like most of his halftime adjustments, but why do you wait til halftime to make said adjustments? and the clock management is horrible. learn from your mistakes man!!!

  69. shane Says:

But Dubcity…Instead of kicking a last second FG, it would had been a last second Touchdown for the Commanders, anyway…but let’s blame this loss on the offense…regardless….

I get Washington analytics against the Bucs, as any team would against the Bucs, just don’t punt the ball, just keep on the offense until u score or get stopped on 4 downs….

  70. ThunderDan Says:

To say Fire Bowles is completely ridiculous.
4 Division titles, great culture with more wins every year.
The Defense needs to be addressed, he knows it.
Draft another Receiver and then all defence in the draft.
    And we’re golden>

  71. HC Grover Says:

I will not pay one cent to watch this NFL. I can listen on my SUPER RADIo.

  72. HC Grover Says:

The sideline stiff will be baaaack! Pay Op.

  73. Beemer Says:

What dirt does Bowles have on the Joes, so clear they are pushing an agenda for the Bucs to keep him. Been reading this site since the early days, but that may be no more.

  74. Hearty Dikerson Says:

Joes – you keep using phrases like ‘some fans’ and ‘fans have various stances on Bowles’

Dude, read the room. 95% of fans are pi$$ed he’s coming back. It’s not just some fans, it’s the vast majority. Licht and Glazers might not care now, but wait until RayJay is at 30% capacity next season. Nobody is excited about this guy coming back.

  75. Tony Says:

    @Thomas51

I don’t know how much more patient everybody is expected to be.

  76. stpetebucsfan Says:

    Dub City

“Now the fans know more than Lavonte and Jason Litch.”

Sad isn’t it. Meanwhile there are Gomers here still talking about Bill Belichik!!!

OK let’s talk. After six seasons as HC in the NFL spanning two franchises BB’s win % was WORSE than Bowles. BB was 41-55 .427 until his LUCKY year six when a six round draft pick SAVED BB’s bacon. Brady was a FOURTH string QB with the PATS but worked his way up to second string for his second season.

Genius Belilchik still went with Drew Bledsoe over Brady until a huge hit left Bledsoe with internal bleeding. Tom came in and never looked back.
After Brady left BB’s win % .432 Are you dullards starting to see a pattern here.

If it’s show me the money or show me the wins Todd Bowles has a far better record than Belichik (on his own w/o Brady) that’s 10 years spread over two franchises.

Why does BB get a pass? Why is Bowles so excoriated? Bowles Bucs Only record is 27-24 .529 add his stop with the disastrous Jets where again he’s been the ONLY NFL coach to win 10 in the past FIFTEEN years and it drops to .449! That matches BB’s preBrady record and EXCEEDS BB’s postBrady record.

I get that facts do not matter for the majority here and that’s ok. You’re fans and you’re free to make fools of yourselves on a sports blog with absurd hyperbole and “clever” names like freaking kindergartners!!! Grow the F up!

And how did BB get all the opportunity to fail and fail and then Brady leaves and FAIL AGAIN? Yet there have been people here clamoring for the LOSER!

BB didn’t get his opportunity from the “Rooney Rule” or DEI eh. Could it have been white privilege. If that’s the level some of you mouth breathers wish to drag the discussion I’m your boy and I’m easy pickens as an old white guy!!!

In conclusion I’m trying to make two simple points. Obviously despite the horrid start BB is NOT a bad coach. I think the same could be said of BoWLes.

And I think anybody who drags “race” into this with DEI and Rooney Rule needs to confront their own “White privilege!”

The NFL story of the day!

The Broncos’ DC, Vance Joseph, wants out of Denver after a heated exchange between him & HC Sean Peyton. The incident occurred when the Bills had a 14-play, 70-yard drive which lasted for seven minutes, running down the clock to deny the Broncos any chance of a comeback. Both coaches appeared extremely frustrated, but cameras cut away from the sidelines before fans could work out what they were arguing about.

Irony of the story is that the Buccaneers allowed an 18 play drive & a 17 play drive that took up over 20 minutes of the clock time. Imagine, if Peyton were the HC of the Buccaneers last Sunday night??? Bowle’s *ss would had been gone next day…but Bowles won’t fire himself…and Licht likes the “culture” more than winning.

  78. stpetebucsfan Says:

Can someone answer a question for me?

In the NFL when they determine SB participants do they as HOW or HOW MANY?

Does the scoreboard reflect the final number of points or a coach’s style in getting them.

  79. Pewter Power Says:

    @Dubcity

Wow uh there has been no drop off in the run game since suh left because it’s about the only thing Bowles can do. They let JPP go after having a 2.5 sack season, Carlton Davis is not an upgrade over Zyon and Devin White isn’t in the league right now so that makes you 0-4. You and Bowles were made for each other. It doesn’t take

  80. Jugheadfla Says:

Can you guys stop with the ridiculous injuries excuses! The defense sucked when they were at full strength and they sucked when they had injuries. Name one DE/outside linebacker that this defensive guru developed…..I’ll wait

  81. BrianBucs Says:

The funny thing about mediocre head coaches is they seem to do just enough to keep their jobs

  82. View from 132 Says:

It sure feels a lot like Dungy’s build to multiple playoff teams, and the Glazers are about to say “ok, roster building is at 90%, now we expect NFC Championship game or better” and its up to Todd to evolve or be replaced by the next Gruden-like character that can walk in to a SB ready team.

It does make sense as a plan because Mayfield is here next year, Bucky is in year two, McMill is year two. Key pieces are all over the place – Barton, Tyree… part of firing Todd is when other coaches are salivating to coach here because of the talent. That would be 2026 if next season is a smash hit.

  83. ATrain Says:

The Bucs didn’t just lose games this season
The Bucs looked unprepared and sloppy on these games

Then this defense guru does not produce

I fail to understand the people who defend Bowles
He went 8-9 with Brady the year after Superbowl
Several coaches where fired but not the HC
Now this year with Baker playing awesome and Evans with several other great players we turn out a terrible playoff game PLAYOFF GAME

  84. Canabuc Says:

It’s funny people say that he can’t draft the pass rusher but meanwhile he got JPP for a great value in a trade. He picked up Shaq Barrett on the cheap and turned him into a 19 and 1/2 sack player that season.

Difference is that these were two guys who already were veterans.

So I agree Todd Bowles has not developed a pass rusher I don’t think that’s because of poor draft but rather inability of the defensive coaching staff.

  85. Davenport Says:

Dungy was 30-18 in his last 3 years, with the playoffs every year, one trip to the NFC championship — and he was fired

I guess that was back when the Glazers were pursuing greatness.

Bowles isn’t even close to that record, and he stays?

I guess that the Glazers are no longer interested in greatness and find mediocrity good enough.

  86. Pewter Power Says:

People are really dumb enough to believe it takes time to build a championship caliber team a few years after winning a championship. You play great for Bowles as a D coordinator, Dean gets paid Bowles is head coach now he sucks. 4 years in did he forget something? Now people want to bring in rookies corners and start all over again. If veterans with years in the system are having “communication” issues I can’t wait to see what you guys expect from the draft. Tykee Smith did someone have time to develop him or did he just come take the nickel spot.

  87. OR Buc Says:

I think black coaches are held to a higher standard tbh. 3 division titles, year over year improvement in Wins, excellent foundation of homegrown players and significant challenges each year. Yea let’s fire this guy, lol

  88. Usfbucs Says:

Bowles needs to bring in a DC but I bet he doesn’t because he is too prideful. He also needs an analyst telling him when and what is statistically the right decision when managing a game. I bet the analysts would have all said the Bucs should go for that first down.

I think Bowles is probably a good HC because he seems to connect with his players but he fails when he tries to do both HC and DC.

Lol man please. Do you really think the loudest yahoos in the comments section here represents the fan base as a whole? Delusional much? You guys are a miniscule piece of the minority – you just post the same off with his head crap over and over on every article @ JBF

I doubt the Glazers are sweating the loss of a few dozen loud, complaining, negative, simple minded fools who think they know how a billion plus dollar organization should be run top to bottom.

Does Ray Jay get over 30% regularly (without the help of visiting teams fans) ?
Do you “fans” need to win another SB before you go to games? Place aint exactly packed now.

  90. OR Buc Says:

My comment got moderated cause I brought up race playing a role in how Todd is judged, lol. Only in Florida, hahaha.

  91. Joe Says:

Dude, read the room. 95% of fans are pi$$ed he’s coming back.

That’s not reflected in any of the confident polls Joe has for Bowles each week.

And 95 percent is still “some” and not all. Absolutes are not to be thrown around easily.

  92. Buc4evr Says:

Happy the Bucs were able to navigate the salary Cap. Unhappy that the Bucs didn’t get an impact edge rusher, and I don’t mean Gregory. They knew this has been a big problem for the last 4 years and didn’t really adequately address the situation. Hopefully they now see what a bunch of dead dogs we have on defense. There are only 4 or 5 players on defense that are starters. The rest are either scrubs or perpetually injured has beens.
Bucs need a new DC, assistant coaches, CBs, LBs and a few FA edge rushers.

  93. OR Buc Says:

Ahhh, thanks Joe. I see it’s been reinstated.
You mean, ‘Sorry Joe, I just assumed Florida is filled with racists?’ –Joe

  94. Matt Says:

Lichts job is now on the line.

If he fired Bowles now I’d be fine giving Licht the next hire

But since Licht clearly cannot see the problem then his job is tied to Bowles.

Bowles is easily the worst coach in the league. And if you consider the gap between him and other coaches, he may be the worst coach (with tenure) in NFL history.

In 2025 coaching is ALL ABOUT optimal game management decisions. Bowles instinct is to do the literal opposite than what he should.

Can he learn? Possibly. Someone like Dan Quinn has

  95. Joe Says:

What dirt does Bowles have on the Joes, so clear they are pushing an agenda for the Bucs to keep him.

No dirt. Let’s just say Joe doesn’t go to One Buc Palace multiple times a week during the season just to drink free Coke Zeros. Combine that with very public statements by shot-callers at One Buc Palace, it’s pretty clear the Bucs have zero inclination to run off Bowles — unless something unforeseen develops in the coming weeks.

If you take a step back, Joe can’t think of too many coaches who in their first three seasons not just won a division each season, but their records improved each season. Then, the guy losses a Hall of Fame quarterback, picks up another who was on the trash heap and had three different offensive coordinators and still won the division and still improved in wins each year and was rewarded wtih a pink slip.

Was this season good enough? No. Is Bowles the second coming of Matt Eberflus? No. Does Joe think he can improve? Hell yeah.

If Joe thought Bowles was horrible, Joe would type it — you see Joe throwing roses at Bowles for refusing to get an edge rusher or for having a trash pass defense? If you think that, then you clearly don’t read JoeBucsFan.com.

If the information Joe has remotely suggested Bowles was on the hot seat, Joe would type it.

  96. GoneGator Says:

    @Shane
What stopped us from having sustained drives like Washington had? Answer that please.

  97. Pewter Power Says:

Perfect example of how it’s supposed to work. Carlton Davis was average and expensive. Yea he got us a championship but we had Zyon on the bench which allowed Licht to trade him for a 3rd. It ain’t hard people but the injury excuse is real for a lot of people I guess because I just remember how crazy it was having to pull Richard Sherman off the streets because of injuries then he immediately gets injured. If I was Todd I would use Dean as an excuse so I could keep my job too. Licht is actually saying he’s at fault for not bringing in enough talent lol. Check ya sheets Glazers his defense sucks

  98. Matt Says:

    GoneGator:

The Glazers should sweat some fans leaving. Heck I think Bowles is the worst coach in NFL history and I’ll still watch.

The Glazers should be sweating the fact that Bowles has cost the team multiple deep playoff runs. Keeping Bowles is costing wins and $. If we had an average coach do we win a Super Bowl? Doubt it, but we go deeper and host more playoff games. If we have an elite coach do we win a Super Bowl? Maybe…

  99. Saskbucs Says:

To the fans like El Hefe saying some of us other fans are expecting too much… it’s possible. It’s possible that I think too much of the recent draft picks and therefore have an inflated view of the roster.

Yes injuries obviously hurt us but… we quickly turned into a young team last season. How many UFAs, and rookies on last years team that went to the divisional round and got great experience while showing talent for the future? A ton! Kancey, Diaby, Mauch, Dennis, Durham, Hayes, Palmer, Izien, Merriweather, Jarrett…. All those guys were in year 2 this year and what looks to be another great class joining them… Barton, Braswell, Tykee, McMillan, Irving, Klein, Culp….

Some of those names are not NFL starters and made the team, got snaps outta necessity losing a bunch of older players. Tom wasn’t paid a huge deal, yea him and Jensen and whoever else hurt the cap but we still had some cap, we weren’t in a dire situation like Saints and a handful of other teams, hell Saints almost matched our record last year.

Point is, maybe I over estimate the talent of those young guys but I think highly of a lot of them and think the Bucs brass have been making good picks. They got added to a group of SB winning vets in Wirfs, Hainsey, Evans, Godwin, Lavonte, Vea, Shaq, Gholston, Nelson, Winfield, Dean…. you know how many teams would KILL to have our roster. Our QB makes 20 million less than the top guys, that helps the cap!

You can use injuries as an excuse for Todd this year, you can’t use anything else. All those young guys have playoff experience and we will have a roster full of 2nd and 3rd year players next year alongside those SB winning vets and a top 10 QB being paid very reasonably. Thats a winning formula, I think Licht has done an incredible job and you are damn right I think this team should be winning a lot of games. I won’t apologize for that, I didn’t go through the lost decade with unreasonable expectations, I knew what we had then and I know what we have now… it’s not even close to the same and treating it as such is expecting too little.

  100. unbelievable Says:

Was this season good enough? No. Is Bowles the second coming of Matt Eberflus? No. Does Joe think he can improve? Hell yeah.

This is pretty much where I’m at.

Does Bowles have what it takes to coach a team to a Super Bowl? I’m not sure.

    – He has shown zero improvement in his clock management
    – Consistently does not have the team ready for critical game situations
    – His teams continue to come out flat for what should be big games
    – Defense constantly has gaping holes in the middle of the field and wide open zones for WRs, doesn’t matter who we are playing
    – Questionable as to whether he actually develops defensive players. The only ones I can really think of are Zyon, Kancey, and maybe Tykee Smith. Dean has regressed. Davis seemed to be regressing before he was traded. Diaby didn’t take the next step this year. Hall and JTS are still nobodies.

Now on that last point, there’s an argument as to whether it’s a coaching or talent issue. I can’t honestly answer that, and neither can anyone else in these comments, otherwise you’d be working for an NFL team.

It does seem like the players like playing for Bowles, and for better or worse- we’ve won the division 3 years in a row with our record improving by 1 game each year.

It could be a lot worse. For reference, please see: Raheem, Schiano, Lovie, Koetter…

  101. Saskbucs Says:

@Gonegator I will answer for Shane… an unwillingness to change the gameplan. If we treated every series like we had 4 downs maybe we could have controlled the clock instead of Wash. The booth told us Quinn’s plan before the game and it worked to perfection. We could have done the same, get to 3rd and short or 4th and short and go every time, Bowles would never.

Its on Coen and Baker as much as Bowles but it goes back to what McCourty and Simms dragged Bowles for… he doesn’t really adjust to what the other team might do, the Bucs do what they do.

I don’t care 1 iota about Todd’s race. Some fans here are saying he gets one more with a loaded up D to prove it or we have an attractive opening for 2026. My issue with that is Lavonte, Evans and Vea could be done or gone by then and we are relying on 2nd year or 1st year guys to replace them in going for a SB? I am here hammering on this subject because I think this is the year, right now while we know forsure we have those vets (aside from possibly David).

  102. Tucker Says:

Got sources telling me that Todd getting fired is a real possibility what?!?

  103. OR Buc Says:

    Saskbucs

If only that 2nd year of experience from Kancey would have resulted in a critical 3rd down stop on Sunday.

  104. Tbbucs3 Says:

Before the playoffs, the majority of fans were saying the only way Todd Bowles should get fired is if he gets blown out.

So why is the rhetoric still so loud around Bowles?

Fans need to take a chill pill and realize that Todd Bowles isn’t going anywhere no matter how much BS they spew on social media.

  105. OR Buc Says:

Did you just skip over Antoine Winfield? Oh but I’m sure you’re gonna tell me Antoine didn’t need Todd’s development. You don’t draft all pros in the 2nd round.

  106. OR Buc Says:

    Unbelievable*

  107. Tbbucs3 Says:

It would be a little ironic if the Bucs fired Bowles to promote the “mighty” Liam Coen (who was a bad OC down the stretch) only to go from a being a consistent playoff team to back to 5-11 every year.

  108. BallHawk75 Says:

    Tremendous………

    Make it make sense

  109. Pewter Power Says:

Bowles becomes head coach then names co-coordinators. The inside linebackers coach Larry Foote the passing game coordinator? I never played professionally but uh your secondary is awful and as a ceo wouldn’t you think about replacing that guy or changing his role? The inside linebacker coach is the passing game coordinator which is responsible for basically everything wrong with the secondary. He’s coming up with the passing game plan and the counters like Kacy Rogers with the run game. That’s actually kind of funny that the passing game coordinator isn’t the corner or safety coach. It’s not the players

  110. GoneGator Says:

    @Saskbucs

    My original question was:
What stopped us from having sustained drives like Washington had?

And your answer (for Shane) to my question is we should have gone for it on 4th down every time instead of punting the ball?
And therefore, since the head coach makes the decision on whether to go or not on 4th down, and we didn’t do that, its Todds fault?

    4th & 7 at WSH 49
    4th & 9 at TB 31

    Sorry but that’s a stretch.

  111. WestCoastBucsFan Says:

I recall an article earlier in the season stating that the Glazer’s standard for keeping Bowles or not was progress. Well, 10 > 9 > 8. Division titles all three years (and almost no one thought we’d get at the start of this season). A bitterly disappointing but *close* playoff game (the only close one of the weekend — every other losing team was dominated if not embarrassed). Count me in the quieter minority group that accepts that progress. Sure, I want more next year, but I’ll take slow and steady over a win and crash a la the Rams after their SB. Now, if we find ourselves in a position like the Steelers after a few more years, I don’t know how I’d feel, but if I can borrow the expression, that sounds like a first world problem to me. In any case, let’s go Bucs!

  112. Saskbucs Says:

I also was admitting how risky it would be to move on at this juncture but I talked myself outta that. It’s really not that risky because assuming we keep Coen we likely have a top 5 offense again.

Add a DC with a scheme you think the guys will buy into and a HC who understands timeouts and clock/game management … can it get worse than the last 2 years under Bowles? We were near the bottom of the league on D so I doubt it. I trust the front office to make those good hires in collaboration with David and Vea and Winfield just like they did Baker about OC.

If the risk is in losing the locker room, these professionals being paid millions are a lot softer than I would have guessed.

  113. Tye Says:

    Count down is on…
    365 days and He’ll be gone…
His resume, track record, M.O. is lack of consistency and inability to coach up his team from week to week…

  114. WestCoastBucsFan Says:

Woops, got moderated. In case it gets through I don’t want to repeat my whole post so here’s the cliffs notes version: Glazers said they wanted progress, and they got it this year with 10 wins, held even in winning the division (when almost no one thought we would), and played a darn close playoff game (unlike every other losing team this weekend). I’d like more progress next year, sure, but I’m happy with a 10-7 season with this team (vs. 8-9 with *Brady* my first year as a fan). Bucs fans are reminding me of Steelers fans (though we’ve done better in the playoffs)–complaining about winning. Seems like a good problem to have. Could be worse.

  115. JReel Buc Says:

Idiots that defend Bowles. Sure Baker messed up but it was a one off unlike this defense who has consistently performed bad all year… time of possession and how they couldn’t stop Washington they are lucky to only lose by 3 . NO PUNTS in the entire game, yet the defense is trending in the right direction but somehow the offense can fix their run game from one season to the next. how many years in Bowles defense are we going to be trending in the right direction Bowles apologist are morons

  116. Beeej Says:

Lavante: “If you don’t hear none of us complaining about him, I don’t think you should complain about him.”

  117. firethecannons Says:

Joe, we need to keep Coen at all costs even if it means losing Bowles. So if that is not an issue and Coen stays then fine but damn Todd Bowles needs to upgrade his play calling and his roster because it is his defense which has been the weak link.

  118. Kevin Says:

If you were to just judge Todd Bowles as the defensive coordinator, would you say he has down an amazing job or wound he be let go. I’m betting another head coach would fire him. So if that’s the case, then he really has done nothing other the identify two good offensive coordinators who have made the real difference.

  119. Lefty Says:

There’s no way any Bucs players ever loved their HC more than when Dungy was here. Sapp even went on record saying “if Tony goes, so do I”… but then Tony went away, and Sapp didn’t…..and then Sapp and Bucs won the Super Bowl.

MY Irish temper gets the best of me and my writing suffers. You keep your cool and deliver well timed daggers like…paraphrasing your deft response to one of our obvious racists after my intemperate rant.

I think you pointed out all that the guy said and paraphrasing added of of course “ahem that other problem”.

I started in radio before Equal opportunity was enforced. There were NO black people in any major broadcast jobs of course cable hadn’t even been thought of back then.

One of the first casualties at the station where I worked was a friend who worked weekends who was replaced by a black dude for the required quota.
It wasn’t like there were any important jobs the station was going to give out.

And so I felt like some of the guys here still do. But I EVOLVED just like Bowles.
And so after railing at the fact many of the new replacements were still speaking Ebonics I realized they passed the same laws to level out education and lo and behold given a somewhat level playing field EXCELLENT EDUCATED black people started showing up at stations. By the time I move into TV I got to work with two incredibly talented black women anchoring the 11PM in Greenville SC and Bristol VA/Tn.

Perhaps because I LIVED through the prejudice and wasn’t afraid to open my eyes, maybe it was the two black ladies and the many others, maybe I started seeing black people anchor national news that I could see the RESULTS of the diversity programs and realized I WAS WRONG to be angry early on. The programs were needed and the results are proof of the pudding.

Perhaps because many of these black folks grew to be trusted respected friends that I’m angered for them.

I could add a ton of observed racism in my life especially basic training at Fort Polk La. but probably wouldn’t matter anyway to those who minds are mired in their own prejudices.

BTW this is NOT a BLANKET condemnation just a bit of sorrow at the half dozen or so who still haunt this place,

  121. Lefty Says:

Also, pretty good chance that Raheem, Lovie, or Schiano could have won 3 consecutive NFC South championships here from 2021-2024.

  122. Durango 95 Says:

Should Coen get an offer to move to another team for a HC position and the Glazers require Bowles to shake up his defensive staff and he resists, from that, or some combination thereof, perhaps a mutual decision will evolve.

Tomlin: one of the best regular season coaches in the history of the NFL this dude is like one and done in his last what 8 tries. Fans will figure it out at some point that winning the division is meaningless. Dungy was doing more than winning the division and got fired. I don’t think anyone can get to use the injury excuse in 2025.

  125. Armybucsfan Says:

How can edge rushers rush the quarterback when Bowles’ crappy scheme has them set to zone cover versus terrorizing the quarterbacks. And putting a DE vs a slot receiver is just begging to embarrassed play in and play out on national tv, BUT somehow we are moving in the right direction? Their math is not mathing.

  126. Mobucs Says:

I became a Bucs fan two years ago, following Baker Mayfield around, after having been a lifetime Browns and neo-Browns fan. The team, I was told, was beginning a rebuild after the Brady years. I was undaunted because I had seen what Baker had done with a franchise that went 1-31 in the two seasons before his arrival.(Speaking of coaches, the neo-Browns brought Hue Jackson back for another year.) I was thus torn between hope because of Baker and resignation because a rebuilding team is expected to be a losing team, of which I had had much experience. I did not expect a rebuilding team to win two division titles in two years, including a ten-win season.
Some positive thoughts from my experience, especially related to coaching.
First, How good are the players on paper? Before each season, critics, commentators, and gamblers project the number of wins to be expected based on an analysis of a team’s roster. The first year I believe the consensus for the Bucs was about five-six games; this past season, six-seven games. Both years they performed well above the projections based on their talents.
Second, they have been playing many young players, especially rookies, in key roles; and they have been victorious over or competitive with excellent teams. The two playoff losses were so close that many writers in these blogs claim that only one (an interception in Detroit) or two (a muddled handoff and a mistimed snap) plays kept the Bucs from winning. In the recent game the two misplays involved rookies playing in the tight fourth quarter of their first playoff game.
Thus, I agree with those who see the team going in the right direction based on both improving records and ongoing addition of talented players.
This is still a rebuild in progress. We should not be deceived because the team’s record is much better than that of other rebuilding teams. I can’t forget 1-31.
The Bucs are nowhere near that territory.

  127. AJ Says:

Our division is the worst division in the nfc probably bottom 2 of the nfl. We shouldve won 12-13 this year we underachieved. I want an overachieving coach not an underachieving one. Against Washington we shouldve won. The games we should win we shouldwin but we lose games that are supposed to win. bottom 5 pass defense last two years same scheme. Something’s wrong with the defense

Apathy will be setting in very fast, amigo.

    More interesting stats:

Buccaneers started strong (3-1), but the 6-game stretch (Falcons-Saints-Ravens-Falcons-Chiefs-49er’s) summed up the Buccaneers’ season.

    During this stretch:

    Buccaneers’ offense scored 182 pts
    Buccaneers’ defense allowed 188 pts

Falcons took the ball first in OT & scored Final score: 36-30
Buccaneers won 51-27 against the Saints
Ravens pounded the Bucs’ defense…final score 41-31
Falcons led 31-17 going into the 4th final: 31-26
Chiefs took the ball first in OT & scored Final score: 30-24
49er’s offence took the ball just under 5 minutes & kicked a short FG with no time on the clock….Final: 23-20

    During the six crucial games:

    Buccaneers offense averaged 30.33 pts/game
    Buccaneers defense allowed 31.33 pts/game

    During the season:
Buccaneers defense allowed 22.6 pts/game for the season

Dude, read the room. 95% of fans are pi$$ed he’s coming back.

That’s not reflected in any of the confident polls Joe has for Bowles each week.

And 95 percent is still “some” and not all. Absolutes are not to be thrown around easily.

    ———-

By all means, then please put out a poll asking who is in favor of keeping Bowles.

  132. AJ Says:

i’m calling 8-10 wins next year probably make playoffs and lose either in wild card or divisional round we’re stuck in mediocrity

  133. Tbbucs3 Says:

“ Also, pretty good chance that Raheem, Lovie, or Schiano could have won 3 consecutive NFC South championships here from 2021-2024”

    LMAO! Good one!

  134. Confido75 Says:

Todd Bowles = The definition of insanity

  135. GoneGator Says:

    @Hearty Dikerson
Yes, I am high – lol.
Doesn’t make what I said any less true 🙂

  136. RGA Says:

Bruce Arians last year as head coach was a 13 win season, obviously there were changes to the roster, with the core still n place. Bowles has barley done enough to scrape out victories in a terrible division.
Bowles is supposed to be a defensive mastermind. His defense the the last two seasons is bottom five of the NFL. Bowles is lauded is a defensive mastermind. Has he completely forgotten how to coach a defense or was he overrated from the get go? One thing I know is that his defense has been terrible. Yeah Yeah, injuries, every team has injuries.
From what I understand, the players like him, but can Bowles coach anymore?

  137. OR Buc Says:

Bowles is 3rd in Bucs history for winning percentage, behind Arians and Dungy. Your fired, hahaha. Fools

  138. Justin Says:

Keep Bowles. Just don’t act surprised when we blow multiple games next year due to time mismanagement.

  139. Capt Ahab Says:

Bowles is remarkably bad compared to his predecessor. Arians last season I believe Arians won 13 games. Bowles defense has been a bottom dweller two years in a row. Interesting listing to in game broadcasters praising Bowles as an innovative defensive mind, bringing blitzes from everywhere. Unfortunately Bowles defense has been the culprit of losing, struggle to get off the field. His defense is in the bottom rung of NFL teams.
    The defensive mastermind.
Thinking maybe the game has left him behind. He seems to love a zone, soft defense where receivers are running free, embarrassing him. He stands stoic with his stature on the sideline watching his defense get an ass kicking.
He may be liked by his playing comrades, I honestly don’t think he can call a good defensive game plan anymore.

  140. unbelievable Says:

@OR Buc- fair point I forgot to address Winfield. He was obviously trending up through last year, but he didn’t play half this season, and when he did play he was pretty disappointing (though I attribute that to injuries… hopefully. Then again we saw the play of Dean and Davis both drop off after getting paid… so ya never know. Winfield obviously on a different level from them)

  141. GoneGator Says:

“It’s just kind of the cycle that we’re in with this team,” general manager Jason Licht said a few days before the Commanders game. “Two years ago when we had the — I don’t want to say rebuild — but we knew it was going to take some time to fill every spot on the defense. Is there some spots that we could add to? Of course. But it takes time.

“And what he has done with what we have, I think, has been remarkable.”
    ———————–

    I think thats that.
Whine, cry, and rage all you want. It won’t change a single solitary thing. 🤬😭

We’re in a rebuild, cash strapped, and somehow still made it to the playoffs. We’re 1-2 years behind Detroit but we’re building the same type of team. Todd’s the coach now and for at least the next year Live with it.
    I agree with Jason

  142. OR Buc Says:

Lol. Y’all heard the stats of what his defense did in the 2nd halves since week 11 (I believe 2nd best scoring defense). Y’all yell and scream about 0 punts. Did you forget about multiple 4th down stops keeping points off the board? The game would have been much different if they kicked those field goals or scored TDs. Then we almost stopped them on 4th down after 2 series within the 15 yard line. 23 points and 0 punts isn’t that spectacular, lol.

Bend but don’t break has been Todd’s MO for a while and you know, points are what wins or loses games. We were 16th in scoring defense this season. With the significant amount of injuries. Oh and 6th in sacks, with 46 vs NFL lead of 49. The turnovers just didn’t help us out much this year.

  143. Capt Ahab Says:

This franchise has a history of great defensive coordinators. Monte Kiffen, Floyd Peters, Wayne Fontes and Abe Gibron come to mind. All defensive minded teams. Todd Bowles will struggle to claim a place in Bucs history as a defensive mastermind.

  144. AJ Says:

16th in scoring defense is skewed. We played a very weak schedule. Panthers twice, falcons twice, saints twice, cowboys, chargers, raiders. if we were in almost any other division we’d be destroyed. how we lost to falcons twice is crazy

  145. RBUC Says:

#1 Arians had the luxury of a blank checkbook to bring in as many FAs as needed to win a Super Bowl!!! Arians won the only way he could OUT TALENTING HIS COMPETITION
#2 All the Bowles haters need to count how many consecutive years the Detroit Lions drafted in the top 10 of drafts to build the powerhouse team they have today, while they currently climb a mountain than they have yet to reach the top
#3 Bowles & Licht have reached the top of the mountain, took most all the negative hits and are on their way back up the mountain top while staying on top of this bad division
#4 If ANY of you so called fans paid anywhere near as much as Lion fans pay for home tickets NON of you would so up at home games let alone travel to away games like Lions fans

  146. RBUC Says:

Buccaneer tickets are some of the cheapest tickets in the ENTIRE league

  147. OR Buc Says:

    AJ

All the W count the same. We. Eat the Lions, commandos and eagles when we were more healthy.

    Captahab

We don’t need a defensive mastermind. We need a winner. That being said it was our defense that held Patrick Mahomes to 9 points in the most important of games.that will forever live in history.

  148. adam from ny Says:
