Knee And Ankle Injury For Lavonte David; No Future Timetable

January 13th, 2025

With a couple of plays remaining last night Bucs fans saw Lavonte David on the field last for what hopefully was not the last time.

He was hopping off the field.

It didn’t look good. Today at One Buc Palace, Joe asked Todd Bowles for an update and the head coach offered nothing other than David was walking pretty well.

David, however, had more specifics for Joe. The iconic Bucs linebacker said it was a knee and an ankle injury.

“I’ll be fine. I just got rolled up on. Something, you know, usual football contact thing. Knowing my myself, I’m tough. I’ll tough it out,” David said.

Joe sure hopes it’s a big nothing that will feel 100 percent after a couple weeks of rest and rehab.

The Bucs need David to return and a lingering injury won’t help that cause. David said today he’s uncertain about his future and will take time with family and make a decision.

Thanks for everything #54. In my opinion, it’s time to move on, we need to get younger and cheaper. We need a total overhaul on Defense.

    LB
    CB
    S
    OLB

  2. John Sinclear Says:

Give the man all the time he needs. He’s still a force to be reckoned with out there.

  3. William Walls Says:

I hope he plays at least one more year. I’m not ready to see a Tampa Bay defense without Lavonte David on the field. I’ll probably never be. Then again, I’m still getting over losing Derrick Brooks.

  4. Hearty Dikerson Says:

This was a friendly-fire injury caused by none other than…

Logan Hall! Keep up the good work!

  5. Ricki Says:

just retire, no need to play for this garbage Coach

  6. Pewter Power Says:

I hope he decides to call it quits I don’t want things to be awkward for him because it’s time and he can go out on top

  7. David Says:

They really need his leadership for one more year! They need CB, ILB, edge, WR. This is very doable in FA and draft. They should be a strong SB contender

  8. LVMYBUCS Says:

Tell Dean to look at David he is a real player not like ur soft as.

  9. BucU Says:

I’ve criticized almost every player at one time or another except for Lavonte.
He’s a legend in Tampa. I’d like to see him stay with the organization in one form or another after he retires from playing. He’d be a valuable asset to this coaching staff.

  10. Hunter Says:

“I’ll be fine” sure sounds like “I’ll be back” to me lol

  11. Simeon4HOF Says:

Legend. HOF. Pray we are Blessed to see him 1 more year. Go Bucs

  12. Saskbucs Says:

We need 1 more season. I only say that because of the state of the D and LB specifically. Still need to load up but need Lavonte vet presence for many obvious reasons.

  13. Mike C Says:

1 more year and go out with a SB, if he is back, watch out NFL we are coming!

  14. SlyPirate Says:

He’s already a HOF. One more year and he cements his name among the all-time great defensive players ever. #4 Tackles. #4 TFL … the names LVD ranks ahead of is insane.

  15. Dano407 Says:

Man if David retires Bucs are SCREWED. He is still playing well & the other Labs are garbage.

  16. Matt_PcAfee Says:

We are #1 I’m the NFL at hurting our own players smh…

  17. Fred McNeil Says:

The bad thing is we don’t have anybody else at linebacker. Even worse, linebacker isn’t all we need.

  18. LakelandSteve Says:

A long in the tooth Lavonte David is better than most other linebackers in the league and certainly head and shoulders better than any current linebacker on the Bucs. If he wants to come back next year he needs to be welcomed with open arms. Maybe we can draft a good young linebacker that Lavonte can show how to be a pro.

  19. Pelsbuc61 Says:

I agree with NJBucs23. Total overhaul on LBs, get rid of Dean and edge, edge and more edge. Also need to grab at least 2-3 free agents for the defense. Unfortunately, Bowles will not know how to develop. BTW, a real coach (McVay for Rams) is crushing the Vikings. Real coaches know how to challenge their players and get the most out of them. Bucs defense is soft and lifeless.
