Jalen McMillan And Ja’Marr Chase

January 10th, 2025

Lofty company.

As much as Joe likes Mike Evans, if Joe had to pick the best receiver in the game, Joe would have to think long and hard about choosing Ja’Marr Chase of the Bengals.

That guy is otherworldly and might be the only receiver Joe would take over Evans. It’s really close.

Now Joe can just hear Jalen McMillan yelling in the background, “Hold up!”

Is Joe trying to say McMillan, the Bucs’ fabulous rookie receiver, is better than Evans? Calm down. However, McMillan pulled off something the past five weeks that only Chase has done this season: catch seven touchdown catches. That’s nuts.

And in Joe’s mind the best thing about this? McMillan has become red hot right at the perfect time: the playoffs are about to start. Perfect timing.

If McMillan can stay hot, with Cade Otton looking like he’s going to return to the field for Sunday night’s game, the Bucs offense ought to have a nice night.

Muy Bueno considering OT rules are different in the playoffs. OT continues with both teams getting a chance to have a possession even if the first team to possess the ball scores a TD.

  2. Shake&Baker Says:

He’s putting up great numbers and was a steal in the 3rd round. Hopefully he hits the gym hard in the off season. I think his slight frame and lack of strength will hold him back from being elite. Guys like Godwin and Mike would have never get stripped by a defender in the end zone. He had been a godsend though filling in for Godwin these last 5 games.

He could’ve had 8 and we’d be at 11-6 if he had a little bit more upper body strength and/or if the refs had made the correct call on his td turned into interception. The really great thing now at this time is the first time we played Washington he was still invisible but now he has leaped over his rookie wall and hit the field running.

  4. Jeff Says:

Jalen looks so frail out there. Skin and bones. Players with his physique don’t last long in the NFL. They also fumble a lot.

  5. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    @ Jeff

Jeff is right —- Jalen looks like he needs a steak or two at every meal to gain weight……all it’s gonna take is a bone crushing hit to take him out.

The Bucs needs another CG or AJ Brown kinda receiver to absorb those blows. Atleast Chase has the build to be durable in the NFL for a very long time.

J-Mac is on FIRE! I’ll bet he has 2 TDs from Baker this Sunday!
    GO BUCS!!

  7. Jeffs grandpa Says:

My grandson is a 43 year old slow boy who’s never had a job so good call anthem

  8. TampaBayBucFan Says:

Our WR corps is solid…….RBs great…..Oline young and good…..like our TEs…..so the offense is good for next year’s draft.

We need Edge, ILB, CB top 3 rounds…..

  9. Mike C Says:

Jeff, what about the Washington QB rookie that is “all skin and bones ” I bet you think he will be awesome and not fumble right? Predictable 12 year old.

What TBBF just said!!! The O is set!

Our biggest need on offense is more footballs to go around. The targets are now so numerous, 3 wideouts from HOF, to potentially great, to solid vet, 3 TE’s, and 3 RB’s all of them solid targets.

This is what IMHO will be the most likely thing to keep Coen if he stays.

A very young, new OL which has blossomed and fulfilled it’s potential.
3 RB’s, 2 very talenteded and one absolutely special.
At least six targets in the WR’s/TE’s

He’s already a millionaire. He’s having fun. And it’s only going to get better!

  11. Bucnjim Says:

McMillin has done a fantastic job, especially with that catch last week. I think everyone will be pleasantly surprised with how he bulks up with just one or two off-season workout programs. If the offense is completely healthy and Cade Otton is back I like our chances. Come on Bowles get this piece-work defense ready to rumble.

  12. OHBucFan Says:

Chase and Evans are in the same stratosphere with a few years in between them. McMillan is not there. I think he’s been a great pick and look forward to watching him develop but he’s benefited from EVERY team knowing that Evans was chasing a record in addition to being clearly the #1 receiver in the Bucs portfolio. Chase is the #1 receiver for his team, like Evans, and puts up those numbers and gets those touchdowns. Double up Jalen and he’s not getting there. Again love the pick but he’s not Godwin…. Yet.

  13. Jake been there since the beginning Says:

I said that McMillan was going to be special !! That touchdown was awesome last week and the pass Tom Brady said a name I can’t remember about the pass Baker threw to McMillan!!!! I almost died on that one. At first I thought they were just saving up everything for a three quarter spanking, close to the half I was a freaking, but I held it back. BAM they steamrolled them Saints!!! Let’s Go Bucs!!!!

  14. Buddha Says:

Bengals not in playoffs this year; not in playoffs last year. Defense not good but no talk about firing the coach.

  15. KABucs Says:

Give McMillan a full off-season to put on some muscle and he’ll be okay. He’s now a seasoned pro who knows the system. He can focus on strength building during those times when the NFL doesn’t let the team practice. I mean his other alumni buddies are all huge… none are scrawny.
In size order –> Culp, Otton, JTS, Gaines, Vea

Work out with some of those guys!! 😂

  16. Ed Says:

A few weeks ago I watched an Eagles-Commanders game and a referee called 3 pass interference calls on Lattimore one-on-one on the sidelines as Hurts was targeting AJ Brown. Lattimore was wrestling and arm grabbing no differently than he used to on Evans in his Saint days.

Refs never called those fouls when Lattimore Evans.

I only hope they see the same cheating way Lattimore holds receivers arm so they can’t completely the catch. They gave the Eagles the benefit of the doubt.

  17. stpetebucsfan Says:

This is about McMillan but I haven’t forgotten CG14.

What are the odds he’ll be back. He has been one of my favorite Bucs and I get the emergence of all these targets, his injury, and the cap may cost me one of my faves but it’ll be a bitter pill to swallow.

  18. Jack Burton Mercer Says:

I don’t know Jose, a lot of people might pick Jefferson as the best in the game.
