Cade Otton, Antoine Winfield And Lavonte David Are Full-Go

January 9th, 2025

Joe’s got Thursday’s late-afternoon injury report.

And the news is largely good.

Lavonte David (knee) was upgraded from “limited” yesterday to a full participant today. Same for No. 1 tight end Cade Otton (knee). Another member of the knee club, starting safety Antoine Winfield, Jr. has been full-go all week.

Otton has missed the past three games; Winfield has missed four.

Still limited is starting cornerback Jamel Dean (knee), who missed Sunday’s game against the Saints. Replacement Josh Hayes has been hanging in there for Dean, but the competition level kicks up Sunday. Joe would feel much better if Dean is back in the lineup.

Great news on those 3, and agree about needing Dean.

Anything to worry about with Evans? I’m assuming he just got an extra rest day…

  3. Inwoodjeremy Says:

    Evan’s had a rest day.

  4. Hawk Says:

    Evans had a ‘casino’ day.

    Great news!

    Go Buccccs!!

  6. Tbbucs3 Says:

Culp has filled in nicely for Otton….

And its time for Winfield to make up for being a ghost most the year

  7. MJ Says:

dont forget Tykee has been huge!! thats 2 safeties back

I’m actually ok w/ Hayes as he’s more aggressive than Dean with better short area/lateral quickness IMO. That being said, Todd has to compensate for Haye’s aggression. Dean is a speed guy (4.3 40 time). He has terrible short yardage / lateral quickness which is where I believe Hayes is superior because of Dean’s bad knees (which to me is why Funderburke is intriguing w/ 4.39 speed). However, Hayes is 4.4 40 time and Terry McLaurin is 4.35.

Dean is 6’1″ and Hayes is 5’11”. So height is non-factor. One is 3rd rounder vs 6th rounder. So….

Todd needs to manage when Hayes is matched w/ Terry Mac and ensure the D is compensating for the speed disadvantage of Hayes with either pressure or safety help. Otherwise, give me the aggression and lateral quickness of Hayes / Funderburke (more Hayes, since Funderburke is a rookie) vs an injured/impaired Dean. Js

    Excellent news, Joes.

  10. Badbucs Says:

Hayes should never be on McLaurin. Zyon should follow him down the tunnel if he goes there. Hayes is out matched in talent, not speed. If Dyami Brown beats us so be it.

Hoping Winfield can make a difference – great news in general.

Can Troy Hill cover anybody, if needed ?

  12. Council Rudolph Says:

Good new on Secondary. With all the injuries , I was thinking Rod “Toast” Jones was to be signed to the practice squad. (That’s a name from way back)

  13. JK Says:

    Hell yes LFG!

  14. H-Town Darryl Says:

    Hayes is terrible

  15. Canabuc Says:

What happened to Funderburk? Seemed so promising early on and disappeared not getting any snaps.

Also we signed Deion Jones. Would thing he would be better against the Commanders than Britt given his better athleticism. He has now had several weeks to learn the offense. Havent heard a whisper.

  16. JustVisiting Says:

If they’re all at 100%, this could be a really fun game.

  17. Saskbucs Says:

How we feeling about Edwards? He’s more important to me than Otton at this point. Durham/Culp > Ryan Neal … or I suppose the alternative to Edwards is Merriweather? Still… be nice if Edwards is around to heat seek Daniels on the move.

  18. Let ‘em bake Says:

    Mayfield… 5 th playoff start
    Daniels…. 1 st playoff start…… it matters.

  19. Jacob Says:

That’s good, almost great news. The worrisome matchups are Josh Hayes vs. Anybody, and Britt/Russell vs. Zack Ertz. Dean would fix one of those.

  20. Rod Munch Says:

Nice! Getting back Winfield, Otton, perhaps even Logan Hall, that’s all excellent news.

Meaning of Hall, what happened with Bryce Hall? I know he got injured and was out for the year, but I don’t recall there being much info beyond that. Is he even a possible to come back for the playoffs if the Bucs get past this game?

Also keep in mind in the SB run, Vita was thought lost for the year, but made it back for the Packers game. Man, if this team got past this week, and then had a legit shot at Godwin returning, that would be remarkable.

Still, get past this game before worrying to much about it. But still…

  21. Mac Says:

I am hoping we get SVD back but haven’t heard a peep about his recovery. He was a difference maker when on the field for us.

  22. JayBucsBoi Says:

What’s up with Jordan Whitehead, Joe??

  23. AJ Says:

Great news with those guys being ready. We really need Dean too ,he is our best tackler.

  24. Capt.Tim Says:

Getting healthy at the right time?

  25. garro Says:

    Look out Commandos!

    It’s all hands on deck!

    Go Bucs

  26. TheBucsAnthem Says:

Hayes definitely is not a starting CB and is praying for dear life hoping to not get “burnt” on every single passing play.

Jamel Dean has never lived up to his contract and has been hot garbage or injured.

    Thank God Winfield is back.
