“We Needed The Timeout”

December 23rd, 2024

Offense “needed” critical timeout.

Bucs coach Todd Bowles addressed the Bucs’ ill-timed timeout late in the first half that allowed the Cowboys enough time to get in position to kick a 58-yard field goal last night.

The Bucs lost by two.

Bowles — while he did not get into any specifics — was asked about the timeout this morning in his day-after presser. He said, “We needed it. Offensively, we needed it.”

Bowles did not elaborate on the follow-up question. He only responded, “We needed it.”

Why? Was his offense out of gas? If so, that’s on conditioning. Was it the Bucs had too many players on the field? Was it the Bucs didn’t have enough players on the field? Were the wrong players on the field for what Liam Coen wanted to do?

No matter how you slice it, that timeout is on the coaching staff. If the players screwed up, then they weren’t prepared (they sure didn’t look or play like they were prepared in the first half).

Strange. Playoff teams don’t normally have these unforced errors.

    No you didn’t Todd.

    That’s just bad coaching again.

    We need a new HC

  2. WiscoJoe Says:

Todd Bowles is a joke. The team clearly wasn’t ready to play. Sterling Shephard dropping those two passes was inexcusable. How he hasn’t been flamed for those yet is beyond me. I’m more upset about those than McMillan’s issues tbh

  3. TheBucsAnthem Says:

If Liam Coen suggested it, then that’s bad on his part.

But every part of me says that that’s a Todd Bowles decision…….

    ….you failed Todd

    Just admit it!!!!🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬

  4. Winny Testaverde Says:

Most of us knew that that ill timed timeout was a mistake. Dallas has Gus The Kicking Mule ( old guy reference…an actual movie title ). Let it run for 30 seconds or so and then call time out if you must.

Todd The Fraud…rarely right, but never in doubt. What will Licht & Bros. Glazer do when they finish 9-8? Out of the playoffs; middling 1st round pick.

  5. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    And Joe, be real now.

This team played from behind all night long and in no way did you see any kind of momentum shift either…….. they didn’t look good the whole night except for Baker and the O-Line!!!!!

Baker was the only reason they even had a chance of winning last night because NOBODY on the offense or defense made any game changing plays either!!!!

Last night, the Bucs just looked awful and the Cowgurls smelled blood in the water too…….

Like I said before, the defense is killing this team right now…..LVD cannot do it all himself!!!!

  6. Bigbucfan90 Says:

When McMillan couldn’t hold on to the ball for that touchdown, that’s when the game was over. I wish that was Evans or Godwin because they come down with that 10/10 times, but in all fairness he’s a rookie and hopefully he learns from it and gets his weight up

  7. Lt. Dan Says:

I’m so over Bowles and his mediocrity. Next please.

  8. Slacker Says:

When is everyone going to realize that Todd brings nothing positive to this team. There is absolutely no benefit of keeping him here. His lack of emotion and fire is ridiculous, his defensive schemes are garbage, doesn’t know how to make adjustments, conservative play calling has costed games, and he’s not showing any improvement over the years. It’s not just injuries, as this defense has always been a dumpster fire. Coen has vastly improved the offense. Averaging 31 pts a game should result in being way better than a inconsistent. 500 team. Coen is the first priority this off season. Letting him leave would be a massive failure.

  9. FortMyersDave Says:

This illustrates another of the numerous flaws Bowles has; he is unaccountable, unwilling to owe up to yet another one of his poor decisions. Hopefully there will be some accountability after this season is over and the braintrust at OBP launches some players and perhaps some of the defensive coaching staff up to and including Bowles.

  10. Beeej Says:

    Probably a bad matchup

  11. Panhandle Buc Says:

So many issues all night long, it’s hard to point to one, but that nullified TD hurts the most to me!

Jalen needs to get his weight up…that steal was inexcusable!!!

  12. DBS Says:

Don’t want to hear the BS. 54 seconds any GOOD defense should be able to stop them from getting into Field Goal range. Seems we had almost 2 minutes to do it and Dallas found a way to stop us. Our defense gave up 26 points. Their defense played better than ours. We lost..

  13. Xristos Says:

And there you have it ladies and gentlemen.
This is why this team under this Coach will be the one it is for the last 3 years.
Not only he continues to make bad decisions on clock/game management situations over and over again but for multiple times now he continues to defend his decision and not understand why it was wrong,
It is evident now that nothing will change, If yot dont understand why your decisions are wrong then you will continue to make the same mistakes.
Here is a thought Coach Bowles and ciaching stuff. The same thought i had in the Houston game last year when you took a timeout again and left time for the Texans to score and win the game.
You think the team need a timeour?
Fpr what ever reason. Because they are tired? Because you want to call a good play ?
    Fine i accept that.
But be smart enough let the clock run down 20 seconds or so and call the timeout with 25 or 30 seconds on the clock. You are in the 10yd line.
I BET YOU HAVENT THOUGHT OF THAT OPTION
    UNBELIEVABLE
    This team will not change.
    Go Bucs

  14. Henry Says:

Playoffs? They started last week for the Bucs. What a sh$t show Coach Repus Bowls put out last night. Middling team as long as he sticks around.

  15. Let em bake Says:

Bowles is covering for Coen ( or some other coach) . He doesn’t involve himself in the offense. One thing about Todd, he never throws his guys under the bus ( like mayo of New England) .

  16. Daniel Says:

You literally would’ve been better to take a delay of game than to take that timeout. Really stupid

  17. LVMYBUCS Says:

    CLOWN!!!!!!!!!!!

  18. gp Says:

“We needed it. Offensively, we needed it.”

Perhaps, this was the mistake that cost us the game.
Perhaps, it was needed to devise a scoring play that would be TOO blatant for the refs to reverse.
    What if….
What if any one of several blatantly bad calls/non calls by the refs were reversed?
What if the game had actually been called cleanly by the refs?
If the refs had not put a heavy hand on the outcome of this game, it would have been a solid win for the Bucs

The NFL likes us to think that they investigate and punish cheating.
There was ‘Spygate’ and ‘Inflategate’. Players all over the league that have been fined or suspended for PED’s (sometimes for innocent cold medications).
Rules have been made, rules have been changed.
In this day and age where gambling on the outcome of games has been sanctioned by the NFL, do you think they will investigate game fixing by the refs?
Unlikely, considering the refs get their marching orders from the NFL.

  19. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

One of the great flaws of a leader is the inability to accurately assess what you are doing, admit a mistake, apologize and learn from it. That is Toad Bowels to a “T.”

  20. Aaron Says:

Its not like McCarthy is known for time management, but if we really needed that Time Out…let the clock run down then call it – I’m willing to bet that even McCarthy would have called that timeout for you…his team was rolling and he has a kicker that can kick it from 60…so at least, make them use one of their timeouts?

  21. Mike C Says:

NO THE EFFF WE DIDN’T TODD!!!!

  22. Chrisonthecape Says:

How about their secondary actually making plays while the Bucs continually have their back to the ball.

  23. Leighroy Says:

Todd Bowles needs to register for Game Theory 101 at USF next semester. I’d love to sit at a poker table with this man!

  24. dumboldguy Says:

If it was they needed a timeout to regroup or wrong personnel you would think it would take a few seconds to contemplate. The time out was called instantly. I actually thought Dallas called it b/c it would make more sense. His answer is BS he’s lying and just messed up but can’t admit it.

  25. Mac Says:

Joe this isn’t a playoff team. And I knew Bucs were losing. Everyone bet Tampa last night and expected us to blow them put. Vegas got killed yesterday with the early games so writing was on the wall with what the zebras were going to do on top of the fact that Bowles never has his teams prepared for prime time. Pathetic. I’m over this season. Just hope next season doesn’t start with Bowles on the sideline although I’m 100% certain it will. Licht loves him and doesn’t have the balls to fire him! He’s too loyal to his guys instead of doing what’s best for the franchise!

  26. unbelievable Says:

We needed a head coach that actually knows how to manage the clock.

Unfortunately, we haven’t gotten that for 3 years now.

  27. Deadwood South Dakota Says:

Todd bowles never gets held to any accountability as a coach and that’s y we are were we are at.. if we get into the playoffs it will be because of the players not his coaching they will have to overcome more mistakes on his part whether it’s lack of holding his players accountable his time mismanagement or whatever else he does. It blows my mind how the Press just lets him give stupid answers and there’s never any pushback

  28. Jethro Tull Says:

Too many obvious examples why this good man needs a different career.
