Sack-Eating Baker Mayfield

December 23rd, 2024

Joe counts on Baker Mayfield to make smart decisions. It doesn’t always happen.

One bad one tonight proved crushing in a two-point loss.

The Bucs had the ball with a 3rd-and-5 late in the second quarter at the Dallas 40 yard line.

Mayfield had one major priority on that play in which Mayfield dropped back to pass. Don’t get sacked and protect the football.

He failed.

Mayfield ate a five-yard sack for no good reason and that knocked the Bucs out of Chase McLaughlin’s field goal range.

The Bucs’ subsequent punt on fourth down was a touchback.

The great QBs don’t take that sack. Mayfield did.

Joe’s pointed a lot of fingers at a lot of plays that probably cost the Bucs dearly tonight. This one can’t be overlooked.

It was a sad display Joe.

  2. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Mayfield hangs onto the ball too long & our WRs don’t get open early

  3. Bucfan1988 Says:

And the refs had the Bucs bent over giving to them tonite with GAME-CHANGING SCREWJOB CALLS!!!

Let’s not forget those because there were at least 4 off the top of my head.

McMillan got screwed twice but the 2nd one was the shaft of the night!!

And I count on JBF to bombard me with unwanted happiness (sic)

  5. Ben the GA Buc Says:

There were failures in decision making at every position group tonight.

I’d like for some insight on why Trey Palmer continues to field punts inside the 10 yard line. Field position played a large role in why the Bucs lost tonight.

    Ding ding ding ding ding!

  7. BallHawk75 Says:

He’s not tall enough to see over the OLine.

That’s why he runs around confused in the pocket.

He’s tough as nails and a good leader.

But he’s never winning a Championship.

  8. JTHV Says:

The TD catch by McMillan that was ruled an INT is an abuse of NFL favor toward Jerrah. Look at the play again, caught ball in Encore wrestled away at the ground

Play is dead on contact, Touchdown

    Bucs got Jerry’d

  9. Chad Says:

Receivers aren’t supposed to drop balls, there were 5 of them, defenders should cover the middle of the field but they don’t, baker should throw the ball away sometimes but he don’t. Sometimes baker hangs onto the ball and makes magic happen, sometimes it results in a sack. Baker was not eh problem tonight, his one interception should’ve been ruled a touchdown.

  10. BucsBeast Says:

Defense gave up the booty tonight.
23 points on the 1st 5 of 6 drives in the 1st half to a BACKUP QB!
    Y’all can blame whoever.

    Big picture is Bowles.
    Horrible game management
    Horrible play calling
Feast or famine defensive scheme that usually gets beat.

  11. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    Baker played his azz off!!!

  12. Rod Munch Says:

Baker played well tonight, but yeah, he’s got to stop thinking he’s Michael Vick on every play and can just run out of trouble all the time. Just get rid of the ball in those situations and stop holding it.

With that said, he did everything he could to win the game, but it’s hard to get a W when the refs are literally turning TD passes into INTs, while giving the Cows 50 yard pass plays while throwing flags on the Bucs defenders for offensive PI.

This game was 100% on the refs, as rigged of an outcome as the game @ATL.

  13. DBS Says:

Son of Trask please tell us who you guarantee would? Your daddy?

  14. Joshua Says:

Mcmillan had a TD and Bowles shouldnt have called a timeout. If he just let the clock run there the Cowboys don’t get 3 points at the end of the half. BUCS STILL WIN!! But BucFan1988 is spot on the refs wanted THEM COWBOYS TO WIN….

  15. maccafan Says:

Wow. Let’s review a few things. Baker throws bomb that should have been TD with 6 minutes left to cut lead to 26-24. McMillan has ball snatch out of his hands for INT instead of TD. Baker comes back and throws TD pass with a little over 2 minutes left in game. Bucs down two pints and get the ball back with 1:30 left in game at their own 20. Baker fights off sack and shovels a pass to White and he fumbles at the 32, game over. Baker throws for over 300 yards and 2 TD’s. Love to see how anybody blames him for the INT. Baker also runs for 42 yards in 3 carries. I guess it is easy to blame Baker for every loss. By the way, Cowboy FG kicker is awesome. Kicked 4 tonight including one from 58 yards.

  16. DoooshLaRue Says:

    Hysterical Joe.

  17. Davyboy🏴‍☠️ Says:

You can’t win too many games playing with your 3rd string receivers in the NFL.

  18. Richard Says:

I wonder if you ever truly watch the games?
Where did Joe put this on Mayfield? Certainly not here. It was one bad play among many. –Joe There is absolutely no way you can put this loss on Baker Mayfield! He had no protection and his receivers and runningbacks let him down all day.

  19. Bosch Says:

Joe says: “The great QBs don’t take that sack. ”.

Yeah they do. All QBs do. But you only remember them when they happen in a loss. If the team wins despite that play then it was a non factor.

    Mayfield is a great QB.

  20. HomerSimpsonRocks Says:

Baker didn’t see the field well, didn’t get rid of the ball quick enough, lead receivers into nasty tackles and played Jameis Winston era bonehead football. It’s not enough to play hard, you have to play smart. Baker didn’t play smart tonight. It seems to be a recurring theme.

  21. Bobbybucs Says:

Baker is one of the few players in the league I’ve seen that must play perfect or the media reaction is extremely negative. Same thing happened when in Cleveland.

The O-Line was awful tonight. Just say it how it is.

  22. Ex-Browns02 Says:

Bucks lost tonight because coaching regressed starting 3rd Qtr. I saw trouble ahead when Bowles answered “need to re-establish run game” headed into the locker room at half.

Baker had just got done with a Baker-drive at the end of the half. Bowles should’ve turned him loose in the 3rd, but he went backwards instead.

Yeah, defensive strategy was lacking, but our offense could have easily outscored the Cowboys.

  23. Kenton Smith Says:

Baker played some great football tonight. The entire team played their as…s off. We missed Otten because he helps our line and receiving corps. Cowboys kicker cashed from 58, 58, 53, and 49. They rushed for 30 yards. We nearly ran for 150. We threw for more than they did and we had more touchdowns. Kudos to the Cowboys. Our guys didn’t give an inch so as long as we’re mathematically in this thing I’m not giving an inch either.

  24. Hearty Dikerson Says:

Hmm maybe your proclaimed “ring of honor” GM isn’t the super hero you think he is? Over 11 drafts, maybe he hasn’t gathered quite the talent you think he has?

  25. Saskbucs Says:

Very interesting reading the comments without seeing the game or most of it.

From what I gathered, sounds like Baker had a couple misfires but overall played well. I fully understand the sack complaint and there has been 3 games (Ravens, Falcons, can’t remember) this season where his multiple picks were very detrimental to the teams winning prospects but… with a competent D and avg 28.8 pts per game … you should be about 11-6.

I pray Ex Browns 02 isn’t right but based on what I just said above, I have no doubt he is.

Hearty Dickerson, I heard Baker bashing (33 million), a lot of Baker defense, ref blame, and Bowles blame. When’s the last time the Cowboys won a meaningful playoff game or were competitive in one outside the wild card round? We have a SB in the 20’s and 3 straight div championships. You wanna blame the GM?

  26. heyjude Says:

Overall Baker had a good game. I was really worried about the refs, and for good reason. They pulled through for the Cowboys a few times. The end was frustrating to say the least. Felt like a bad movie.

  27. Drunk Bucs Fan Says:

Wow, good job. I’ll bet Mike Evans had a play where he didn’t do things exactly right. Can’t overlook that one playoff.

Trying to find fault in Baker’s game last night proves you are driving an agenda.

  28. Marky Mark Says:

Everyone knew we were not going to sweep the last 4. It just turned out the loss was against the Cow girls not the Teslas. Just a bad luck day. tHe Iggles were rolling till Jalen got a concussion. Pickens was not bad but rusty. Falcons seemed energised by Penix. Now they take a big cap hit on Cousins. Commandos are back at full strength. Should beat the Falcones. We wont take the panthers lightly at home. I see 10-7 and some kind of playoff spot.

  29. Marky Mark Says:

Bobbybucs you are right about Baker and the media. It has to do with old guys in the media having a problem with Bakers immature college taunting and flag planting. Baker has grown up but the media as not.

  30. #1bucsfan Says:

I’ve become a baker fan but he inability to throw the ball away is why he will never be elite. Throws to many dumbs picks. Last night was NOT a dumb pick McMillan should have caught that dam ball but to often this season baker has throw Winston type of picks or taken sacks and has fumble. It’s great to keep a drive alive but sometimes you just got to throw the ball away take what the defense gives ya. Come on baker you are better than this

  31. Buc2Blame Says:

So can we please stop calling him a franchise quarterback he is not a franchise quarterback. He is a bridge quarterback. He will always be a bridge quarterback for his entire career. All he does is enough and it’s never enough to do what you wanna do. He is a bridge quarterback player he is not a franchise quarterback franchise quarterbacks do not turn the ball over the way Baker turns the ball over a franchise quarterback does not take the sacks that Baker takes

  32. Kenton Smith Says:

Buc2Blame- everyone is entitled to their own opinion. That includes idiots, morons, low IQ haggards, and clueless people. And like you-all of the above.

  33. Clay day Says:

Agreed re fair catching a punt on the five yard line. Seriously? What possible good comes from that. Just dumb

  34. Bucco Bruce Says:

Jesus, I even knew we were gonna lose this game all week. What does the NFL love more, a close division race. Come on man, you honestly think we blow out the Charges with the best D would come to Dallas and lose, all awhile Atlanta starts Penix and win! NFL is an Entertainment league!!! keep the games close for the division and rating purposes. NFL doesn’t care if you know it or not. They know its a betting game and people will still watch. Your a fool to think otherwise.

  35. Bakerfan Says:

The sad display are Bucs fans thinking this offensive line is all world, they made a bad defense look good.
