“I Want The Damn Record”

December 22nd, 2024

So Joe’s dialed in on the Bucs winning tonight in Dallas, especially if the Falcons find a way to beat the tanking Giants at 1 p.m.

If the Falcons lose, well, then the Bucs can afford a loss.

But the matter of Mike Evans’ streak of 1,000-plus-yards seasons is also an underlying focus/concern.

Evans, who sits 251 yards shy of 1,000 receiving yards this season, has three games remaining to up that streak to 11 years and tie Jerry Rice for the all-time mark.

So Evans cannot afford a clunker tonight.

Joe’s got bigger goals, however. Joe wants to see Evans nail down the record in the next two games so he can rest in Week 18 if the Bucs have the division title locked up.

Evans cares deeply about the record yet doesn’t care at the same time.

That was the message shared by TampaBay.com columnist John Romano after talking to Evans.

“I know I can get 1,000 yards every year if I’m healthy and I’m getting the ball,” he said. “I’m not going to sit around the locker room and talk about myself, but I want the damn record. I want it. I want to tie it (this year). I want to keep it going.

“I definitely want it, but that doesn’t mean it’s a burden.”

Again, Joe wants Evans to nail 1,000 yards without needing a heroic Week 18.

If the Bucs have the division locked up before the season finale and Evans needs, say, 143 yards to hit 1,000, then what?

It would be a difficult decision for Evans and the franchise on whether to expose Evans to injury before the postseason.

  2. NJbucs23 Says:

Worry about one game at a time

  3. A Bucs Fan Says:

Just get it all tonight and be done with it.

  4. Anyhony Says:

Just because they might lock up the division with one game left to play doesn’t mean the three seed is not in jeopardy.

  5. Oxycondomns Says:

have to be careful to not put pressure on himself. you start to press instead of play freely can make things more difficult

  6. dbbuc711 Says:

I’m hoping that he and the rest of the Bucs give Skeletor ( as my wife calls Jerry Jones) plenty to frown about and the crowd to thin out in the 4th quarter. 😁

  7. Bucsfan951 Says:

    “Then what?”

Full send! Have him go out there and get that yardage he needs. This franchise owes it to him. If he gets hurt, then he gets hurt.

  8. Hawk Says:

If Evans needed less than 100 yds in week 18, it might be okay to see where he’s at by halftime, but if he needs more than 100 yds, it would be better to save him for the playoffs. The NFL is a game of chess, not checkers. You have to consider strategy for future action.

  9. Bigbuc63 Says:

There is no I in team, but there is an M and E! As Mike goes, so does the Bucs. Go ME!!

  10. BA’s Red Pen Says:

He will get the record in the normal flow of the offense because he’s a F-ing monster we’re playing the Panthers next week.

  11. BA’s Red Pen Says:

    *monster and

  12. MadMax Says:

Its coming Mike…and you know it

  13. Cobraboy Says:

Stop all the outside chatter, and just win the game in Dallas.

Bucs lise and the Falvons beat the trying-to-tank Jints, and this team could miss the playoffs altogether.

  14. Bojim Says:

    Get it!!

  15. Bucscoott Says:

    He will get it tonight

  16. Outrigger Says:

The Falcons will lose one more game at the most (at Washington). We have to assume we will need to run the table to win the division. Hopefully Mike gets the record on the way to us winning our last 3 games.

  17. HomerSimpsonRocks Says:

240 and 3 TDs tonight. Ha ha.

  18. Tbbucs3 Says:

Heres to hoping Michael Penix turns out to be Ryan Leaf 2.0

  19. BigPoppaBuc Says:

This situation makes me s little nervous but on the same token, Mike has been playing with his hair on fire the past couple weeks. Even getting some YAC that we don’t normally see him get.
I’m glad they’re not just denying the whole thing, but hopefully they don’t force it and risk injury or even a loss. It should happen naturally and a highly motivated Mike Evans is a defenses worst nightmare.

  20. Topcoach78 Says:

Please Baker do not force it to ME13 if he is open he is open go ahead and toss it if not don’t do this Brett Favre you tend to do at times bro and turn the ball over were trying to make the playoffs damn a personal record!

  21. heyjude Says:

Wishing Mike the best of luck in reaching his goal. Keep it going!

  22. orlbucfan Says:

ME13 is sounding frisky which means the hammy is getting better and healing. He’s all about winning first. He knows how good he is. He also knows what happened to his good bud on and off the field, CG14. He’s got some scores to settle. Okay Coen’s, this one is on you. What else you got in that bag of tricks? How about QB options?

  23. orlbucfan Says:

Coen. The autoedit on here stinks!

  24. John Says:

11 catches 262 yds 1 td on a sunday night with the whole world watching. Mike evans catches immortality tonight. got get it 13…go get it!!

  25. Tony Says:

More than likely Atlanta will probably end up releasing Cousins, too! That deal they signed him to was dumb. If anything they should’ve signed him to just one year. Morons. One player they did take that I wanted the Bucs to sign was Bates.

  26. First Last Says:

Giants are gonna clobber the falcons and give MK13 the juicy to drop 200 yards on the cowgirls

  27. Outrigger Says:

Go Giants!! Up 7 early against Dirt Birds

  28. Larrd Says:

Play well, win out, go into post season on a roll. The NFC is up for grabs. Home field could come into play even after the first round.

Evans’ record doesn’t mean anything but if Evans isn’t getting catches and yards the Bucs probably aren’t winning.

  29. #1bucsfan Says:

Shoot how bout he gets it tonight. 251 yards 2 tds let’s go

  30. Irishmist Says:

Giants just giving the game away. They are tanking harder than Patton.

  31. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

The greatest receiver to ever put on a Bucs jersey and is the only real deep threat we have yet we have guys up here who cry about forcing him the ball to get that record. Only two others on this offense that would be deserving of forcing issues in order to get them records, Bucky and Baker. To get Bucky to 1000 yards and if there was a record Baker could break. Evans has earned the right to tie the record this year and beat it the next.

  32. Oneilbuc Says:

I hope he gets the record but not a the expense of us making it to the playoffs.

  33. Buccaneric Says:

Get 200 hundred tonight, Mike. Go Bucs!
