Buccaneers Have Night Issues

December 21st, 2024

Don’t tell anyone, but the Bucs have lost their last five night games in the regular season.

That includes three this season and two last year. Sandwiched in between is last season’s playoff victory at night against the Eagles.

There’s something about the Bucs with Todd Bowles and night games. There was no winning record in prime time with Tom Brady at quarterback in 2022, either.

Joe brings this up because the Bucs play tomorrow — at night. The Sunday Night Football affair at Dallas is not a must-win game, but it certainly is critical.

If the Bucs win out — at Dallas (6-8) and home for Carolina (3-11) and New Orleans (5-9) — then they’ll lock up the No. 3 seed in the NFC playoffs with a record of 11-6. A hiccup along the way and a lot could change.

Joe hopes and expects that Bowles will try to tweak something tomorrow as it relates to game preparation. It’s hard to believe Tampa Bay’s woes at night are only tied to bad luck a higher-caliber of opponent.

Coincidences are rare in the NFL. So Joe takes a little comfort in the Bucs being 5-2 on the road this season with both losses coming in overtime — each at night.

The only night games we’re good in are the ones that start around 6:30pm and we win them big.
    48-21
    31-9
We’re the Bucs and we do things a little bit differently…….
    😀

  2. Hunter Says:

Have a bad feeling about tomorrow night. We could easily be out of the playoff picture by midnight tomorrow. Hope I’m very very wrong

  3. SteelStudBuc Says:

    Bucs win 34-17

  4. JimBobBuc Says:

The Bucs need to win-out starting with a trampling of the Cowboys. No letdown, just bury them and show how good we are.

  5. GoneGator Says:

    Please.
    Coincidence. Or maybe voodoo 🤣

We haven’t lost since I got my BUCS hoodie. Equally meaningful “stat”. 🙄✌🏼

  6. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

I would love to know the Bucs record since 1976 on MNF, SNF, TNF and any other prime time game when they are the only game in town. I suspect it is very poor. I, too, am nervous about tomorrow night.

  7. MadMax Says:

Everything is changing….we’re setting new records…have faith, we got this 🙂

  8. firethecannons Says:

I go with on the road mentality and I think we have been really good playing teams that are good.

  9. gp Says:

    Trends and superstitions.
This is a different team than the one that lost those games.
Far more concerned with whatever surprises the cowgirls might throw at us than what time the game is.

  10. orlbucfan Says:

It’s long past time Bucs broke the SNF curse. They’re sure better than the Cowjokes.

  11. Anyhony Says:

Remember,………We can’t win out west either!!!

  12. Lightningvinny Says:

Running the ball , pounding the opponent into submission solves most night or out west problems

  13. Oddball Says:

    Night terrors eh?

  14. Mac Says:

I am also concerned about tomorrow. Cowboys are playing much better football. Only loss since before Thanksgiving is Cincy who is playing well as of late. A game Dallas should of won if not for that blocked punt blunder. They better be ready to play tomorrow.

  15. El HEFE Says:

    2-0 in the superbowl

  16. Tye Says:

Can’t be confident the Bucs can win as long as Bowels is HC…
He gets out coached far to often!

  17. Bartow Buc Says:

Joe, with all due respect, it’s not about daylight or dark, it’s about X’s and O’s and if the Bucs have enough talent to overcome the Cowboys level of talent. I am confident the Bucs win !!

Go Bucs !! Beat the Cowboys !!

  18. Rod Munch Says:

Alvin Scissors Harper – I wondered that too. Here’s the numbers I found, which appear to be correct.

Bucs record on MNF: 14-15, 3 game losing streak
Bucs record on TNF: 3-9, 3 game losing streak
Bucs record on SNF: 9-15, 1 game winning streak
    Bucs record on Thanksgiving: 0-1
Bucs record on Christmas: 1-0 (vs Cards in 2022, also a SNF game)

Overall primetime record: 31-44 (8-11 over the last 5 years)

  19. Capt ahab Says:

Bucs are a bit of anomaly at times. They play like a powerhouse at times and certainly in the second half at the Chargers game, then as we are all hyped with this new renowned powerhouse, they can suddenly pull the plug and play poorly. No more flash in a pan or winning indecisively against inferior opponents. I would like to see consistent solid play game after game.
All indications are pointing up, fans are excited, play solid and consistent. No
    More letdowns.

  20. gp Says:

    Rod
Well done on listing historical records.
    A rhetorical question…
Can you tell me who the players were in those games, for both teams?
I know, silly question, because we’re not playing against those players tomorrow.
Tomorrow is a bright new day! Unencumbered by things that have happened in the past.
Don’t get me wrong, It’s important to remember the past, especially past mistakes so you can correct them, but also past accomplishments so you can try to repeat them.
    Embrace the new!

  21. RGA Says:

Why is Jack Browning our punter, why did the Bucs cut Camarda? I understand he was not punting as well as he used to, it was certainly better than this new guy. There has to be some other reason.

  22. gp Says:

Preparation and match-ups are far more important than tee time.

  23. Capt ahab Says:

Joe’s can you explain what happened to Jake Camarda? His stats even in his slump are much better then Jack Browning.

  24. Joe Says:

Joe’s can you explain what happened to Jake Camarda?

The official line is he wasn’t punting well. Joe has zero other information.

Notice no other NFL team has picked him up. Often, actions are louder than words.

  25. Let em Bake Says:

Bowles will have Cooper Rush seeing ghosts…

  26. heyjude Says:

Thank you for the data, Joe. I had a feeling about it, but wasn’t certain until reading this now. It’s time for the Bucs to break the night loss record and win tonight.
