Pete Prisco: Bucs A Super Bowl Contender

December 19th, 2024

We’re special, Greeny.”

More are more analysts are ringing the Bucs’ bell atop the NFL hype meter.

Notriously grumpy Prickly Pete Prisco of CBS Sports is even auditioning for head Bucs cheerleader.

Joe like Prisco, but he is well known for being prickly. Joe was once at an NFL event and eavesdropped on a conversation with Prisco and an A-list guy in NFL media. The chat ended cordially with Prisco’s comrade telling him, “Stay angry, Pete.”

However, Prisco has long been an admirer of the 2024 Bucs. He picked Tampa Bay to win the NFC South and had them at No. 13 in his preseason power rankings.

Now, Prisco has bumped the Bucs up to a No. 12 power ranking and thinks they are a true Super Bowl contender.

“All-in and they might make a run in the postseason to get to the championship and maybe even beyond. I love this team,” Prisco said.

“To make the Super Bowl? Prisco’s CBS Sports colleague asked with a tone of disbelief. “I absolutely think they can,” Prisco replied.

Then Prisco went on feisty rant about Calijah Kancey, Vita Vea and Lavonte David, and professed his love for the diverse makeup of the Bucs roster.

Even more fun? Retired Pro Bowl guard Kyle Long was on the CBS Sports HQ panel with Prisco and agreed with him, emphasizing Baker Mayfield’s ability to win anywhere in the playoffs.

As much as I love the Bucs I am not getting to high with this trend. I have seen to many times where they start reading their own press clippings and play down to the competition. Let’s just see if they can win 3 straight and win the division first.

  2. 74 Bucs Fan Says:

Did you guys hear all the Dallas players taking crap about the Bucs players wives? Our guys should be pissed!

    That happened right?! 😉

  3. BakerFan Says:

Looking at the NFC QB’s that are playoff bound and I would take Baker over any of them.

  4. EEK Says:

hard to imagine but as a fan you have to dream
how will the D respond on 3rd down and long against a high powered offense in a do or die setting? the middle of the field always seems to be open for business and converting 3rd downs
I think the offense can run up yards and points on anyone

  5. Jethro Tull Says:

    No! Stop! Please. No.

Remember the Panthers games. The last three. No!

Play some aggressive defense and double CDSheep. And the we’ll see, hoping Baker rises up and doesn’t emulate a Jameis. Go Bucs.

  6. Saskbucs Says:

If the Bucs win out and enter the postseason healthy I will get excited about their chances. One week at a time right now.

  7. JimBobBuc Says:

Beat America’s team. Everyone who’s not a Bucs fan will be pulling for Dallas. The Bucs still have to win out. The Bucs barely beat Carolina and lost the first half to the Chargers. I hope the Bucs aren’t listening to this hype!

  8. Ra'Shad Says:

Add in Calias Campbell and we are Super Bowl bound.

  9. Viktor Vaughn Says:

Man I love the Bucs but given our primetime record/performances since the Brady era every instinct is telling me to go to bed early on Sunday……..I hope my gut is wrong.

    GO BUCS

  10. Chef Baker Says:

Man I hope the guys aren’t paying much attention to these “super bowl contenders” chatter boxes. We need to have eyes forward to Dallas that’s it! Act like we’ve been here before boys!

  11. Panhandle Buc Says:

Just enjoy the ride…it wasn’t always like this in December, Bucs fans!!

  12. Jethro Tull Says:

A real fan measures expectations. That’s what we have here, boys and girls. Hope, but verify.

  13. gofortheface30 Says:

“everyone who isnt a Bucs fan will be pulling for Dallas.”

Some of these comments, I….I just don’t get. The implication with that comment is that people somehow love Dallas when just as many people, if not more people absolutely loathe them. To say they’re polarizing would be underselling it. Are you like, from an alternate universe where Dallas is somehow well loved by everyone? Doesn’t make any sense, other than maybe you do not live here on earth

  14. Jeffrey Becker Says:

kancey vea david healthy is abso key pete, but nothing about porous pass D or injuries in the secondary?

  15. Dan the Bucs Fan Says:

I am the biggest Bucs fan on earth but we have to be honest and realistic with where we are right now. We are by far the best team in the nfc south. We are better than every team in NFC west. We very likely will be the 3 seed. That’s amazing.

However every team in nfc north that’s going make the playoffs is better then us and honestly Eagles and Redskins will probably beat us as well if I’m being honest.

We played a great half of football last week the week before we struggled to beat a Raiders team that was trying to lose. We need a pass rusher very badly before we can be contenders

  16. D Cone Says:

Any of the teams that make the playoffs is a Super Bowl Contender.

If you bet along with Pete this season you would have been right just under 63% of the time. and finished the season in the Red. With more weeks picking 8 winners or less I would take what he says with a grain of salt.

All I know is if the Bucs are #3 Seed they will probably host the Packers and at the # 4 Seed the will probably host the Vikings.

Best path to a Divisional game is if the Lions drop to 5 and the Bucs finish at 4. Of all the teams that should make the Playoffs Bucs could be the 5th best with the Rams, Lions, and Commanders a Question Mark. Lions are wounded and vulnerable.

Bucs have Cowboys with a banged up Secondary, Saints on a short week, and the Panthers. Perhaps they should start small and string three straight against these teams before they even consider beating the Packers, the winner of the Rams/Vikings, and then the Lions or Eagles back to back to back.

  17. D Cone Says:

Nope Panthers and then Saints on a Full weeks rest and no QB.

  18. dbbuc711 Says:

    First beat the Cowboys

  19. RBUC Says:

Out of the NFC teams jockeying for a playoff spot I think Washington is the weak link!!! McVay/Stafford combination in the Rams I think the Bucs AT BEST have a 50/50 shot at advancing if both teams meet THEN I see the 3 NFC North teams as a REAL challenge for the Bucs to land on top out of those matchups and lastly I think the next time our Bucs run into the Eagles Buc fans better brace for the fight of our lives cause I think they are getting a little tired of losing to Tampa just like back in the early 2000’s before we finally beat those Eagles!! The playoffs this year will be very very exciting and unpredictable!! GO BUCS🏴‍☠️☠️🏴‍☠️💨💨‼️

  20. Lightningvinny Says:

I agree , just beat the cowboys!!! But ,,, I’ve been doing the math , and Joe correct me if I’m wrong ,,, providing the Eagles beat Washington on Sun,,, I find no scenario where the Bucs don’t make playoffs at 10-7,,, due to other teams playing each other and we would have a superior 8-4 NFC record ,,,, I’m I off here? Granted win them all and who cares ,,, I haven’t even considered 9-8 but it’s still technically possible,,, (knock that thought off and beat those cowboys)

  21. Ha-Ha-Ha Says:

Just so long is somebody beats Kansas City I’m tired of that Taylor Swift crap.

  22. Pewter Power Says:

It’s the NFL and the kind of hype you get even when you play 4 teams in a row that have absolutely zero offensive weapons but Contenders he’s not wrong and I guess he’s saying that now that Detroit has significant injuries. Contenders with Minnesota, Philly and Green Bay who else scares you in the nfc and we will only play 3 teams. Washington in the playoffs with a rookie not worried

  23. Jethro Tull Says:

Someone said the Bucs are the best team in the NFC South and yet Atlanta with Kirk Cousin looking like Dan Marino beat us twice and we also made Bryce Young look like John Elway in crunch time. And more.

    How about earning some respect?

  24. Lightningvinny Says:

After Sun night the secret will be out ,,,, all eyes will be out watching Americas team and their ultra slim playoff hopes ,,,, Let’s bury them and move on

  25. Tom M Sumner Says:

We got this ….. ride the wave man

  26. Bosch Says:

With Dallas still in playoff contention, they will be a handful. Bucs need to bring their A game again!

  27. Mike Johnson Says:

Play one game at a time. All of this hype is just that. Those of us who have been around long enough already know to take all of the bragging with a grain of salt. One game gentleman…….at a time.

  28. unbelievable Says:

The have the offensive firepower to win a Super Bowl this year, even without Godwin. Which is crazy.

Unfortunately, defense will be their downfall.

  29. unbelievable Says:

And we all know how it will go if they get too high on their own press clippings this week after clubbing the Chargers… Can’t have a flop letdown in Dallas this Sunday evening.

  30. orlbucfan Says:

Yeah, I just grew a third brain. Nope.

  31. Jethro Tull Says:

Earth to everyone – Harbaugh has already maxed his team out. What we beat wasn’t some juggernaut. Ok, carry on casuals.

  32. Jethro Tull Says:

Version 2 —. Herbert is less than Ridder right now. Pleas save the anointing oil He sucks. I’d love to have him as our #2, but he really blows. So we didn’t beat anyone last week.

  33. Murph Says:

Why do people minimize every victory the Bucs achieve? I thought the Chargers had the best scored against defense. How are they a nobody? I guess all of the Bucs wins should be minimized. “The Bucs are in a lousy division.” “The Bucs beat teams with more injuries than the Bucs.” “Bucs didn’t deserve to win because they played poorly against weak teams.” How many excuses can people make. What team plays every game perfectly? By the logic used by the Buc haters the Chiefs should be winless. Crazy. Why can’t people just enjoy the Bucs playing meaningful games in December? I can reverse the hater logic and explain how the Bucs over overcoming many injury and cap issues, as well as playing with a roster that has undergone many revisions during the course of the year. Just wish people could enjoy the Bus and their perseverance as they have put themselves in a position to once again win the division.

  34. Kenton Smith Says:

Jethro Tull. Maybe just kick on some old Tull albums and wait until the games over before you wet your pants over how the Chargers suck. They beat a very solid 9-5 team tonight. Now throw your pajamas in the wash and go to bed.

  35. Woodenman Says:

Jethro Tull I guess you did’t see tonight’s game.. LoL

  36. GoneGator Says:

    @Kenton Smith
Thats our boy Dave Pear trying a new I.D.
He’s tried to change his posting style and content a little by not spewing as much Todd hate but he can’t control those urges – lol.

  37. firethecannons Says:

How about we beat the Cowboys on Sunday then plan on the next team after that. One game at a time, it is not the time to think/plan about our standing on the playoff bracket.

  38. Pryda30 Says:

Totally agree with Prisco! Why not Tampa bay to win the superbowl we are heating up as one of the hottest teams peaking right before playoffs we can run the ball and stop the run as long as Baker limits turnovers I’d say we have a good of a shot as anyone

  39. Funderstruck Says:

It isn’t very hard to re-read an article (or comment) before it’s published. Spelling matters. Grammar matters. For as much as Joe went off about flushing vs. fleshing, this should matter to the brand. Oh, and I mis-thumbed things 5x on this very comment, but made sure I got it right in the end.

If you expect thousands to read your article, you should too.
