Todd Bowles Explains His Postgame Scream

December 19th, 2024

Todd Bowles is a stoic dude and a coach who’s hard to find celebrating publicly after a win.

However, occasionally Bowles lets out an emphatic victory scream in the Bucs’ locker room in front of the NFL Films/team-media cameras. It’s a simple, “Yeahhhh!!” with an unpredictable accompanying body movement.

Ok. Whatever. But why only some wins get a scream and others get nothing, barely even a smile?

The whole truth is unclear, but Bowles did explain why he let his signature scream rip Sunday after Tampa Bay’s shaming of the Chargers.

“It was against a very good team. It was a complete team performance,” Bowles began. “All three games contributed and we finished the game. I was most happy about the offense running the ball finishing the game, the defense getting a turnover at the end of the ballgame and doing a great job before the end of the half not letting them get in field-goal range. It was one of the few times we finished a game completely on the both sides of the ball. So I was happy about that.”

Hey, shutting out a good team 27-0 on the road should get any coach screaming in ecstasy.

Joe is just glad fans got to see that side of Bowles (video below). It makes being a Bucs fan more fun. And that’s the whole point, right?

I like David stepping in with his message, as well!

  2. Bucs And Them Says:

This with my morning cup of ‘Joe’ has me grinning ear to ear! If the Bucs can do this again Sunday night against ‘America’s Pretend Team’, we’re cooking with gas! Don’t sleep on the Cowboys. Go wide awake on them and physically pound them and swarm them like last week in LA. Let’s F’n Go!!!!

Todd screamed Yeahhh after the Philly win also. After the Denver loss he said ” I had nothing to do with it. ” No identity. No identity equates to no command authority. Devin White was no rocket scientist. I’m of the opinion that he was manipulated into doing what he did. However, had White felt true respect for Todd & Jason & the Glazers & his teammates he would have followed the lead (leadership) of Mike Evans and others. Bowles made White a team captain. Bowles failed. Enough said.

For those that may have read my comment about having to run circles around the flagpole for a bad shave, I had a perfectly clean shave. The company commander gigged me for a “shave” because of a tiny spec of dried blood on my chin not a whisker. I didn’t whine or complain, I just accepted his authority and did as I was ordered. Three days later he called me into his office and asked me to be a platoon leader. Todd Bowles is a good coach but not a good head coach. He made Devin White (a malcontent) a team captain.

    Really nice video. Thanks.

  6. KABucs Says:

It’s impossible to blame Bowles for the Devin White thing. Mainly because none of us were in the locker room or at the Buccaneers facilities to see what really happened. White was a good rookie, seemed to be a good captain and really helped us win a super bowl. Why he took his foot off the gas and quit trying to improve and became a malcontent just shows that he had more immaturity inside of him than he let on. Horses were more important than football “it seems”. Once again, fans don’t really know since they’re not part of those inner circles.

In the video above, whoever that is that’s doing that high pitch screaming is totally cracking me up. I’d love to know which player that is. LOL

Good to see Coach in a different light versus the straight face all the time. I’m just ready to see if the chargers game was a fluke. Come in coach prove me wrong! Go Bucs!

    *on

I should have mentioned Lavonte David earlier. Lavonte, it seemed by what I read, really tried to be a big brother and council Deven White. Lavonte showed leadership to White but White didn’t follow. Lavonte couldn’t command White. Bowles should have commanded White and not try to be his big brother. The Eagles gave White a second chance. They didn’t coddle him or make him a team captain. Their head coach exerted command authority and showed leadership to the team and dumped him. We’ll see if authority and leadership takes hold on White in Houston.

    You are missing the point.

  11. Player 1 Says:

Citrus County…do you realize the players vote for team Captain?

Maybe this explanation will help you understand. Any organization needs structure. A team needs structure. It’s like a Jenga puzzle. With all the pieces in place you have a strong structure. The responsibility of the head coach is to make sure the structure doesn’t fail.

The players may vote but the head coach can and should determine who is on the ballot.

    ^^^^^^
Wrong. I disagree. Everyone saw clearly what happened.

  15. Citrus County Says:

Within the confines of the NFLPA contract the head coach has the authority to set policy and make rules. It is the job of the head coach to enforce those policies and rules. He (or she) isn’t there to make suggestions as to whether the players follow the rules and policies or not. There was a day when teams had dress codes. Those dress codes were put in place for a reason. Discipline and structure. Our society has lost that. That’s why we’re in the shape we’re in.

  16. Jethro Tull Says:

Love it, Coach! Now go make beef chili out of the JerryCows.

  17. Jake been there since the beginning Says:

We all knew that after the bye, the Bucs were gonna start kicking ass!!! It was looking ugly again against the Chargers at first Then came halftime. After the half they were a totally different team!!! BAM.. it’s time to do w you guys have set out to do.. Let’s Go Bucs!!!!

  18. Denny Gay Says:

Good for Todd. He deserves this celebration.

  19. Citrus County Says:

Council ! That’s embarrassing. I meant counsel. Rough night and up early.

  20. drdneastup Says:

I like this aspect of Bowles demeanor although I wish he would be more demonstratie with the refs when they hit us with bad or no calls. Raahter be with someone calm and under control than a coach celebrating like a 12 yo flag football player on the sidelines.

  21. Woodenman Says:

Joe you need to provide structure to this blog because Citrus County is out of control.

  22. Timbucs2 Says:

I love whoever sounds like the screaming goat at 0:13

  23. orlbucfan Says:

Citrus County isn’t out of control. We’ve got a lot of morons on here who are, and are very borrrrriiiinnng. Yawn. I don’t agree with CC’s emphasis on Devin White. White was a loser and is past history. I’m glad Bowles let one rip. Sorry I missed listening to the game. You can bet I won’t do that the last 3. Go Bucs and win them all! You guys can do it!!

  24. Ben the GA Buc Says:

Coaches aren’t perfect. People sometimes change. People sometimes aren’t who they say they are. Bowles is a leader of men and leaders of men sometimes get some things wrong. I give him a pass on the Devin White issue.

  25. Citrus County Says:

orlbucfan…. Thanks for coming to my defense in fighting off the hordes. I only brought up #45 to point out my disagreement with the way Bowles handled the situation and to make a point.

  26. orlbucfan Says:

Citrus County, you and I are devoted genuine Bucs fans. We don’t always agree but we are on board in that our Bucs will win in Dallas, and why not the final 2 games? I need something to cheer me up politically.
