Jamel Dean And Interception Streaks
December 19th, 2024Jamel Dean doesn’t get a whole bunch of interceptions. But when he does get one, one could argue it is unexpected, and not because the Bucs’ cornerback has his droughts.
Back in 2020, Oct. 18 to be exact, Dean had a pick-six of then-Packers drama queen quarterback Aaron Rodgers. It was Rodgers’ first pick of the season.
Fast forward four years and on Sunday, Dean made a leaping interception of Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert. It was Herbert’s first pick since Week 3 this season.
So when quarterbacks are on a streak of no interceptions, they better hope they don’t face Dean.
Yesterday, Dean was joking and telling stories about Todd Bowles’ sarcasm. Dean didn’t mention how after a practice this summer Bowles was asked about a Dean interception and said he would need to have Dean drug-tested.
Dean was asked what Bowles said about his key play in Los Angeles.
“It felt great knowing that I didn’t have to worry about [officials] going to the replay to see if I grabbed it or not,” Dean joked. “I caught it clean.
“I know [Bowles] was happy for me. But I know deep down inside he was probably like, ‘Finally!'”
Indeed. Dean had gone over a full two seasons, 42 games, without a pick, including playoffs.
In September 2022, Dean had two picks of America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston. He wouldn’t have another until Sunday.
Hopefully, Dean has paid a penance to the football gods and now starts a streak of his own with interceptions caught.

It is a confidence league.

Sorry but not going get a lot of picks playing 15 yards off unless you can really jump that route

QBs know he can’t catch and will target him with throws they might not otherwise make. His recent 4th down sideline whiff still hurts, on which he didn’t have to defend the pass, merely shove the receiver out of bounds short of the line to gain.
Instead he did neither, rightly drawing the ire of our hall of fame receiver, ME13.
The way the other DBs are playing, Dean is the liability among current starters. I hope Coach puts Zyon on CeeDeeSheep, with a safety rolled to that side. There must be some Cow who Dean can kind of cover.

y’all know that Todd Bowles has him play off of the receiver like that right it’s part of the system and how Todd Bowles likes for his scheme to go

I bet in Dean’s mind that ball took forever to come down.

Thee INT was more of result of the DL putting pressure on the QB, this time in the form of a blitz, than anything exceptional that Dean did.

Got it
So in addition to his dropped ints
You want to discredit the ones he catches
Ok

I don’t care who does it, but I want to hear at least one pick6 in this one. I want to Cowpukes’ faces buried in their own manure! What a great Christmas gift for us Bucs fans🎄🎄!!

Jamel seems to have gotten more confidence and knew Coach Bowles expected more. Hoping to see more of him coming out of nowhere and intercepting!

Tampa plays a cover 4 scheme our LBs buzz out and cover the out route within a 5-8 yard radius. It’d be senseless to have Dean come up that close to make a play. That’s why the middle is often open and when the middle is taken away you’ll notice teams do 5-7 yard out and hitch routes
