Your NFC Player Of The Week

December 18th, 2024

Congratulations, Baker Mayfield!

Deserved love for the Buccaneers franchise quarterback.

Mayfield beat out Mike Evans and others to be named NFC offensive Player of the Week today.

It’s no big deal at One Buc Palace. The award has been won already this season by running backs Sean Tucker and Bucky Irving.

Through 14 games, Mayfield has 3,617 passing yards, 32 touchdowns, 14 interceptions and is completing at a whopping 70.8 percentage rate.

Nice! Follow it up with a 5 TD performance against the Cowboys on national TV.

  2. Razor Ramone Says:

There ain’t no cure for the 2nd quarter blues.

  3. Jeagan1999 Says:

    BAKER!!
    BAKER!!

  4. JA Says:

Accolades are nice, but they don’t win football games.
Although the standings read that the Bucs have a one game lead over Atlanta, the reality is a 1/2 game margin due to the tiebreaker.
Atlanta finishes with the Giants, Washington and Carolina — all winnable games despite their horrible play of recent weeks.
Most likely the Falcons will already have beaten the godawful Giants by the time our Bucs take the field on Sunday night.
With that, every game is a playoff game for the Bucs from here on out. Dallas isn’t folding their tents, so this week will be no cakewalk despite the Cowboy’s dubious record.
Pedal to the metal, boys. Time to prove the second half against the Chargers was no aberration, only a taste of what is yet to come. Take nothing for granted and bring this thing home!
    GO BUCS!!!!

    Kudos to Baker!

  6. Kevin Says:

Week 15 last year, the buccaneers went on the road and played the Packers and Baker got NFC offensive player of the week, and this year week 15 the buccaneers went on the road and Baker again got NFC offensive player of the week, hopefully he can keep it going, congratulations to the whole buccaneers offense for their play this past Sunday..

  7. UKBuccaneer Says:

Anyone else still think Jameis would be better? (We all know you guys are on JBF)

  8. Chef Baker Says:

Check yo sheets! Baker is baking! Congrats

  9. Durango 95 Says:

Dudes a straight-up baller. If this defense had backed him up throughout the season this team would not be fighting for their lives to get into the playoffs. Coen and his crew deserve better.

  10. Waterboy Says:

    Jameis is benched again.

  11. Tbbucs3 Says:

Some fans still fail to realize that the Bucs currently have a franchise quarterback….wake up folks!

  12. Gipper Says:

Can’t be right. Have it on good authority—RodMunch and DavidBigBucsFan99—that Mayfield is a” middling, journeyman who can only dink and dunk.” In fact, the not able to throw long nonsense, is recent vintage like in last couple weeks, when everything else these football gurus have said about Mayfield proved untrue.
Not going to let those guys forget. A few of us who knew the truth stood up for Mayfield, and were blasted by the these so called “fans.” Lesson here is everyone is entitled to an opinion. Always better to know what you are talking about rather than posing as an “expert.”

  13. BakerFan Says:

Gipper…. I was one that was verbally assaulted for my fandom of Mayfield by those 2 and others. Was ridiculed and scorned at. I have had my disappointments this year on his interceptions but I do believe that Mayfield has not even came close yet to his ceiling. His long ball has not been showcased at full display yet. Just win baby, there is a new gun slinger in town and Godwin still could make it back for the playoffs.

  14. Larrd Says:

Baker and the OL make for a promising team over the next five years or so.

The haters will never let go, but hopefully the Baker Fan Victims Club membership will feel some measure of vindication after a couple Super Bowls, LOL.

  15. Panhandle Buc Says:

I think we are in great hands for years to come!

Don’t worry about the INT’s. Baker is in his 7th NFL year, even the sacred GOAT, Brady, had 14 INT’s 3x in his first seven years. Brees had many more INT’s than Mayfield in his first 7 years. The INT’s are just for the really uniformed to talk about when everything else is a non starter. Part of Mayfield INT issue is his absolute confidence that he can fit a throw anywhere. He is learning and fully expect that INT’s in future years will be in single digits. Real question is have Mayfield INT’s cost Bucs wins this year? In those games where he has thrown an interception or more the team is around .500.

  17. Jethro Tull Says:

I’m shocked that Trask didn’t win the award. The way he handed off 4 times at the end of the Chargers game was masterful.

  18. New Fan Land Says:

My boy Baker has an interception issue. That issue is that he gets bummed when he throws them and starts playing timid.

He also has a sack issue. That issue is when he gets sales, he gets bummed and starts rushing his throws, which causes interception, and that causes him to get bummed, which causes him to play timidly.

He has more faith in his line than most of his seasons so far, and he’s learning that when he ignores his occasional mishap, he is a better QB by simply accepting the occasional pick and continuing as if it didn’t happen. Same with sacks, albeit to a lesser degree.

Truth is, the games he has had down games on weren’t as bad as he used to be, and that means something.

The Chiefs aren’t a perfect team, but on their worst days, they are still ready to work and win. That’s the difference maker.

Baker is the same, and the fact that his worst games are still pretty close to winning games means the Bucs are getting dangerous.

  19. BA's Red Pen Says:

    @ UK,
    *Trask, fixed it for you.
    This isn’t 2019 dude.

  20. EEK Says:

    the 2nd quarter was horrific
Baker was awesome aside from that
    magical

  21. Vanessa Anne Says:

    Well deserved! Congratulations Baker!!

  22. orlbucfan Says:

With all the negative rap on here, you would think the Bucs were 3-12. They’re 9-5 (?). Cowjerks suck this year so Bucs will go #5 in a row. I’m listening to this one cos I have hated Dallas since I was a kid. Okay, Coen, how about a QB bootleg option?

  23. ModHairKen Says:

    This is just beginning.

  24. Vinny from NYC Says:

I’m a Baker fan have been since his days at Oklahoma but I don’t understand where the disrespect for Trask comes from. Seems to me has been a good teammate. I hope he’s either re-signed or gets a contract with a team looking for a QB. Trask has been a true professional we should respect that.

  25. Gipper Says:

Agree. Trask must be a good prospect because Licht is good at drafting players. Hope that Trask can hook up with a team looking for a QB. With his experience as a backup behind Brady and now Baker, he is way ahead of any rookie drafted in 2025. Raiders, Browns, Titans are in the market for a QB. Hope it works out for Trask. Real fans wish him the best.

  26. setherick Says:

I am a big fan of Baker and the energy he brings to his attack and his ability to improvise and keep plays alive… just also concerned he has the 3rd most turnovers of any QB this season. I think he’s gotta know when to push and when not to. I’d rather punt than try too hard and throw a pick… Because if we’re building around him, as a franchise QB, that’s a big deal.

PS I live in Los Angeles now and got to watch the Bucs whop the Chargers live and it was amazing!

  27. Rod Munch Says:

Great game. Just wish you could rely on him more often. I’d take lower end good games to get less bad games, or at least better bad games.

But he played great on Sunday, and hopefully after two awful weeks before that, he got the bad games out of his system for the year.

  28. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

I came up here to say he deserved it then I saw Gulper and Bakerfan’s lil pow wow and got triggered. Let me tell you this buttercups since you’re all butt hurt and in your feelings like the male cheerleaders you are. I’m a moderate in every sense of the word and hate extremists in anything, and you’re the worst kind of sports fan in the world . . . . . F A N B O I S. You f a n b o i s are like 5th Element Rudy Red’s entourage, sheaves are irritating like the hiccups. You are the reason I can’t fully get behind Mayfield with your incessant name calling of people who say ANYTHING even remotely derogatory towards him regardless of how bad he has played. Up to this point he has only been a better version of Infamous Jameis. I thought Oneillbuc was bad with his Jameis love but you clowns take the cake. I’m a Buc fan and was here before you and will be after he leaves and hopefully you clowns will leave with him, and as long as he plays for us I will support him just not like you with eyes and mouth wide open

  29. Kenton Smith Says:

DavidBigBucsFan99. There There now. Everything’s going to be alright. Just take a deep breath. There you go. Everything’s gonna be fine. Just breathe. Yes. Relax.

  30. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

I know and you’re right but can’t help myself with these f a n b o i s. Bucfans are cool but these clowns trigger me

  31. Gipper Says:

    DavidBigBucsFan99,

You are an “extremeist.” Reading your last post above, you sound irrational. Take some medication and go for a walk.

  32. StormyInFL Says:

The folks here didn’t have a problem with Trask. I don’t. He’s a good backup.

The problem was always with the insufferable Kyle Trask fan club.

The guys who wanted Baker benched after less than one quarter into last year’s Vikings game.

The guys who think Trask got ‘robbed’. That he was somehow entitled to the job by virtue of sitting behind Brady. That signing Baker was somehow unfair to Kyle Trask.

That is ( or was) the issue. Thankfully, in large part due to Mayfield’s play, they have been shut up.

  33. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

Gulper eel put your phone down and go back into you Baker cave and ponder what your life would be like if you had never seen Baker and what other male athlete you’d latch on in order to give your life meaning. Delusion is a key aspect of being a fanboi

  34. orlbucfan Says:

Kudos to Baker. But where are DR, etc? The Bucs are on the cusp of doing a record run of wins, as in the final 3 games. Where are the genuine fans like me? Screw this 21st century blog sh@@. It sure drives off the actual fans. oe, you better start rewording some of your crap.
