Mike Evans Streak Hunt Takes Massive Step Forward

December 15th, 2024

So future Hall of Fame receiver Mike Evans walked into today’s blowout of the Chargers with 43 catches for 590 yards and 7 touchdowns.

He walked out with 52 catches, 749 yards, 9 TDs and a big fat smile.

Evans, as nearly every NFL fan knows, is riding a streak of 10 consecutive years of 1,000 yards or more receiving. Only Jerry Rice has more with 11 (1986-1996).

With three games remaining, Evans is in solid striking distance of Rice’s historic mark of consistency and greatness. He might even get it without needing the 17th game of the season, something Rice did not have in his day.

What impressed Joe today was Evans running a deep route (video below), in addition to his hustle and heart on the scramble drill/crossing route that also went for a very different kind of touchdown with lots of YAC (yards after catch).

Evans’ hamstring must finally be healed. For months the Bucs have been allergic to deep shots and Evans hauled in 35-yard strike by Baker Mayfield to put the game away late in the third quarter.

Joe’s enjoying every minute of what Evans is accomplishing and Joe has little doubt Evans will hit 1,000 yards if he stays healthy.

Another 30 targets should get the job done.

DAYUMMMM…finally just watched the condensed replay on NFL+ and man what a game…they beat a good team in the Chargers, not some scrub team like the last couple weeks. Hopefully this is the start of something strong as they close the season. 11-6 sure sounds like a great record and maybe, just maybe the #3 seed for the playoffs. If they can keep up that kind of defense they have a shot at at least making the second round or even the NFC Championsip.
This game sure does change my outlook on the end of the season and the team as a whole…

Amazing what happens when they throw the ball to Mike.

I really thought he’d have his big game vs the Raiders at home, but I’m fine with waiting a week for it. I assume he’ll still get a 150-yard game – still think it will be at home, but I’ll gladly accept it on the road at Dallas.

He’s in good shape so long as we get the Baker we saw today.

Loved every minute of this game, save the couple of hiccups in the 2nd quarter. So happy for Mike today and what that does to help him reach his personal goal this season. Also, look at that absolute dime Baker threw hitting him in stride for that 2nd TD. This team is possibly my favorite version and I thought nothing would compare to the 2002 Bucs. Brady was great and helped us win a 2nd chip, but that team had a few hired assassins and Brady was trying to weasel his way out to Miami after two seasons. This team is Baker’s and everyone on the team bleeds pewter snd red!

Lets go baby! Keep feeding him!

I thought he was over 150, but when I looked it up it said 129. I’m a victim of fake news!

  14. Kenton Smith Says:

Rod Munch how ironic “I’m a victim of fake news”.

  15. Ex-Browns02 Says:

Great performance from Mike today! Super happy that he appears to be over his injury — both for him and the team. Rooting for him big time to tie the record this season. Go Mike!! Go Bucs!!

  16. OHBucFan Says:

A complete player. Did you catch some of me13’s blocks? What a teammate.

  17. George R Says:

I wish they would of fed ME13 a few more times at the end of the game. He could of had another 30 yards.

  18. Gipper Says:

For the crowd that fixates on Mayfield INT’s, just a reminder that ME isn’t throwing the ball to himself. Mayfield hit him with some on the money laser like crossing and seam routes not to mention the deep ball in the end zone. Pretty sure ME likes having Baker pitch to him as much as Baker likes pitching it to ME.

  19. Itzok Says:

Hope he does, but didn’t think he will. Plays like today he will make it

  20. HomerSimpsonRocks Says:

    Super happy for ME13 today.

  21. unbelievable Says:

Yeah I thought they could have tried to get him another 15-20 yards at the end, but I’m cool with just running it down their throats and completely demoralizing them.

Mike needs 1 more big game to keep the steal going IMO

  22. Saskbucs Says:

If he stays healthy he’s getting it. He’s got another 150 game coming up soon. Just wish I knew which one!

Terrible Baker throw to Evans on that pick but what a beauty throw right on the money in that TD clip. Erase Parsons next week and we will see more!

  23. Bucswin! Says:

    GOAT

  24. JimBobBuc Says:

It was great to see how juiced Mike was on the sidelines. Sometimes he’s a little stoic to me and it was great to see his emotions today. With that kind of intensity from the vets like Mike and LVD, the Bucs can beat Dallas next week.
