The Soft NFL

Rachaad White fined.

Roger Goodell’s league is so soft that if two dudes had a pillow fight at midfield, Goodell may have a coronary.

The NFL announced fines for players today for actions that happened in last week’s games. Many of the plays where the league got its panties in a wad were never flagged for a penalty.

In other words, NFL officials scour gametape for reasons to get triggered.

In studying the tape of the Bucs’ win over the Raiders last week, a run by Rachaad White was deemed too hard. Yes, a running back hitting a defender who is trying to end his season is deemed a culprit.

Thankfully, White was not fined for his Angry Run when he stiff-armed Decamerion Richardson onto Dale Mabry Highway. That would have been something. Win Kyle Brandt’s Angry Runs award and get fined days later.

Joe has the offending play below. The NFL got triggered because White lowered his head (to protect himself?) on a run where White ran over Raiders safety Tre’von Moehrig.

For this heinous offense, White is now $45,020 lighter in the wallet.

Someone at the NFL is going to have to explain to Joe how this helps grow the game.

Not defending the fine at all, but I do think the NFL doesn’t want paralyzed players for putting their head down while running the ball. This play itself didn’t deserve the fine.

  2. Permanently Moderated Says:

Roger Goodell is the scourge of the NFL. Be gone, you loser.

  3. Jeffrey Becker Says:

how often is this fined? never hear about RB getting pinged

  4. unbelievable Says:

NFL finding ways to chit on the Bucs any way they can.

I hope and expect White to appeal this. This is absolute nonsense.

SOS after 45 years, some crap never changes. Like where is the life threatening hit??

  6. Dom Says:

They are stealing money from these players in the name of safety, while at the same time, trying to increase the amount of games in a season to improve their bottom line. The sickness, greed, and hypocrisy knows no bounds

  7. Dom Says:

Post tax income for Rachaad White based on his Overthecap cap number: $885,768 which is $52,104 a game check. That took damn near his whole game check for a regular football play. Unbelievable

  8. unbelievable Says:

^ to your point, this fine is 3X MORE than what they originally fined Roquan Smith for destroying Godwins ankle with that hip drop tackle.

    3x more????

  9. NJbucs23 Says:

Watching that clip 2 times, he definitely lowered the crown of his head and lunged into the defender. I can see why the NFL fined him, white is lucky he didn’t break his neck.

  10. gp Says:

If I were the Glazers, I’d have Licht award White with a $50,000 bonus for bringing the ‘angry scepter’ to TB.

  11. View from 132 Says:

Name the top 5 running backs of all time… all of them would be fined 11 times a game.

  12. gp Says:

    un
That fine on Roquan Smith was rescinded, and no suspension either.

  13. al Says:

He got off light. That’s spearing a player with a helmet. (Some day I hope the Joe-Joes will stop their constant cheerleading that the bucs can do no good. The one-sidedness in here is worse than fox news)

  14. DoooshLaRue Says:

Now that the softness is soon to be leaving our country, and not a moment too soon, hopefully Herr Goodell shall be cast off with the rest of the crybaby losers and a real Commissioner will be announced.

This soft sh!t needs to end now.

  15. A Bucs Fan Says:

The reason the fine is so high is because he is considered a repeat offender.

  16. GoneGator Says:

    @DoucheLaRue
Stupid much? Pretty good name choice tho 🤣

  17. Pewter Power Says:

Whether the game grows or not the commissioner and owners are making billions so that’s what think are thinking about their future billions

NFL isn’t what it used to be.
NFL aka Not For Long is the likely hood I continue watching this
    Charmin sport.

  19. adam from ny Says:

not fair to do to a rb…

they just absorb hits, and have to run hard or get run right out of the league…

they aren’t properly paid, and are replaced with a blink of the eye

  20. adam from ny Says:

someone who can afford it should pick up the tab, so rachaad knows to keep running hard and worry free, because the team’s got his back…

    some teams do that…

they cover these fines with…let’s say…concession stand money 🙂

  21. GoneGator Says:

I didn’t realize the fine was such a big chunk of his game day pay. Definitely an excessive fine imo. Pretty sure the guy he lowered his helmut on had talked some $hit and taunted him earlier. I don’t know the rules on this kind of thing but the owners should definitely find a way to pay this.

  22. Woodenman Says:

Al I want you to watch football this week and tell how many RB’s do the exact same thing white did .. This goes on every game with every RB . I totally disagree agree Al with your comment not because l am a bucs fan because this goes on in every game. You watch this weekend and see how much it happens. I agree with Dom totally they are just stealing money in the name of safety.

  23. Cobraboy Says:

Didn’t Goodell recently sign a big extension?

  24. Bucc my life Says:

Lead with his head blindly. Imagine if everyone did that on offense & defense. Thats why it’s a fine.

  25. Ha-Ha-Ha Says:

Actually the 1 sidedness in here is greater than CNN or MSNBC.

  26. Anon Says:

Joe hittin me with the old packaging art nostalgia.

  27. garro Says:

I like that pillow fight analogy Joe! Can I use that one next time a rant about Roger and his pal Richie?

The mental image I get is hilarious! Reminds me of the cowboy after OSHA cartoon.

    Go Bucs!

  28. NJbucs23 Says:

How many people in. Here actually played football growing up? It’s very obvious what he did. He speared the defender.

  29. Hodad Says:

I hope the money goes to a good cause.

  30. White Tiger Says:

It must be bonus time for the snowflakes down at the league office.

Bet watching replays of guys like Earl Campbell’s & Mike Alstott’s career runs – make the hurl into trash cans.

  31. gp Says:

    NJbucs23
He was leaning in to contact.
As all runners are taught to do from youth leagues on up.
If they don’t, they wont survive past high school without serious back injuries.
I’m guessing that YOU never played the game.

  32. gp Says:

    Long and short is…
They couldn’t fine him for the stiff arm because it was too visible and just as legal.
So they used this one because they knew the karens would call it spearing.
