Football Genius Tykee Smith

December 12th, 2024

Back in the spring and summer, Todd Bowles always seemed to speak with a smile and reverence in his voice when mentioning rookie third-round pick Tykee Smith.

The nickel cornerback/safety out of the University of Georgia also impressed the Bucs’ front office for his football aptitude prior to the draft. And some of that love was shown via official Buccaneers video.

Smith endured a freakish knee bruise prior to the Bucs-49ers game on Nov. 10. It cost him three games. He returned Sunday against the Raiders and played well with a key red zone interception.

That had Bowles speaking with great respect and appreciation again.

“It’s rare because he’s a very intelligent football player. Not many rookies take mental reps on the side, whether you’re hurt or not in, and still go out there and execute and understand the game plan,” Bowles said. “And he’s one of the few guys that can do that.”

Bowles called Smith “huge” for also playing safety on Sunday in addition to nickel.

All Joe can do is applaud. What a third-round pick he’s been so far. Smith has proven to be a strong tackler with a knack for forcing fumbles.

Can he keep it up and avoid injuries? That’s probably a key to the Bucs’ chances for a postseason victory.

As long as him & Kancey stay healthy they look like they should be alright.

Next years draft needs to be spent on all three lines of defense! D.L….Linebacker, secondary…repeat!

Kid flow I emphatically agree 💯, if we have a stud receiver standing Us in the face maybe pick him up. But, the Bucs first three to four picks I want to see the top best defensive player on the board come to us. But this season is not over yet let’s go get that playoff experience. Next year keep that health and injury bug out of the building about improving this defense and we will be elite mark it I said it, let’s go Tampa Bay!!!!

I’m a huge Gator Fan but last year he was my favorite player to watch in college!

It’s looking like this years draft was a fantastic haul with Barton, Tykee and Bucky so far. That’s 3 starters / critical role players.

Imagine if J Mac and/or Braswell can turn into something too?

    Licht is on FIRE!!!!

Georgia & Kirby Smart coaches these defensive stars up right. Typically they are NFL ready from the drop.

Tykee, Zyon, and LVD are playing well. Time for a pass rush, from anyone, this Sunday.

  13. R O Says:

I’m not sure Zone 7-10 yds off and let the O run free is a gameplan.
