Bucky Irving Named NFC Offensive Player Of The Week

December 4th, 2024

Joe doesn’t get too crazy about these Player of the Week/Month awards.

They’re cool, but heck, Sean Tucker got one and Mike Glennon was once NFC Rookie of the Month.

So Joe keeps them in perspective.

That said, congratulations to electric Bucs rookie running back Bucky Irving for winning NFC Offensive Player of the Week today. Joe hasn’t seen a more dangerous Bucs running back in a long time, maybe ever.

Irving’s 5.5 yards per carry average, if he can keep it over 5.1 for the regular season, would represent the best per-rush mark by a full-time Bucs running back in history.

Sunday, in the painfully sweet Bucs win at Carolina, Irving cruised to 152 rushing yards and 185 yards from scrimmage, more than any NFC player.

What a gem the Bucs’ front office found.

Great for Bucky! That’s an awesome award for a rookie.

I heard Winston was nominated for AFC offensive and defensive player of the week.

  2. Cleanhouse Says:

Don’t say it’s meaningless because Sean Tucker won it. Just proves that These NFL coaches and GM’s have rocks between their ears, that they now chose to sit Sean Tucker on the bench most of the time. Very foolish.

    Fire Bowles yesterday.

I believe that was my initial post the Day they hired Bowles as well.

Such a great pick by the staff, and his name makes it feel like destiny

Coen’s system just produces NFC Offensive Player of the Week.

    Nice “award” for Bucky !
I’m sure all the comments will be positive, like the article was, and on topic 🤣

Well deserved. If White had been RB1 at Carolina, the Bucs would be 5-7. Heck on that 3rd and one where White lost 4 yards late in the 4th that led to the 20-16 field goal. I think Bucky would have not have been buried so deep who knows? TD, first down, 4th and inches? I just know Bucky has that ability to elude behind that line and has vision. Rashaad White does not have that ability or vision.

  7. Beeej Says:

They had two guys enter the backfield unblocked, Bucky would have fared the same

  8. Godlovesbucs Says:

Yes, white lost 4 yards. The problem with that was the play call. Inside zone was working, why run to the outside and pull?

  9. George R Says:

LFG Bucky, lets get rookie of the month!!!!

Congrats Bucky. Hopefully its just one of many more to come.

If Bucky should’ve been the feature of this offense the moment Godwin and Evan’s got hurt. If he did, not only would we have won more games, Bucky would be in serious competition for Rookie of the Year. He would’ve been in the next tier below Saquon, who is currently the second favorite for MVP. I don’t know if this is just Todd Bowles conservative nature, but if he’s to continue coaching he needs to get out of his own way. Play the best players. Use your weapons to the best of their abilities.

Rachaad White is great and he should be featured in this offense, but he should not be the starter. That has been apparent for over a year.

  15. 74 Bucs Fan Says:

    Go Bucky go!!

I was pulling for Winston but laughed at his 2 pick 6’s (and almost a 3rd) as he then stairs off looking confused. Same old Jameis.

EVERYTIME I WATCH BUCKY TALK ON INTERVIEWS OR THEY ASK HIM QUESTIONS HE IS FRIGGIN FUNNY I START LAUGHING EVERYTIME I SEE HIM TALKING HE IS DAMN FUNNY IN SUCH A GOOD WAY

  17. Bojim Says:

What a frking find. Stunning every week. Don’t give up in White. Just put him in the right position. He’s good.

  18. SenileSenior Says:

Nothing wrong with starting White if Irving gets the higher share of the runs per game. Football ain’t what it used to be. First and second string really are no more. It might be a matter of pride for some players. Mature players probably don’t care.

  19. B Says:

Well first I genuinely laughed out loud at what I thought was a great line about Mike Glennon getting rookie of the month, but now I fear knowing that fact and being able to cite it is some sort of cry for help.

  20. Cleanhouse Says:

Kiss it bakers Bucs you’re a pathetic loser for making a personal comment toward me, real tough behind a screen

  21. heyjude Says:

Fantastic news! You are so right Joe, Bucky is electric and a gem.

  22. Gipper Says:

Bucky was the steal of the 2024 draft. That draft with Barton and others cements Licht’s reputation as a shrewd GM. Now we would all like to see more of Braswell. Need to find out about him for next year.

  23. David Pear Says:

Never tried one, but highly doubtful that turds are sweet. Bucs loss to the Panthers last Sunday was most definitely a turd. Nothing sweet about it. Refs helped gift wrap that one for the Bucs with the Thielen TD at the end of the first half.

So we got a gift-wrapped turd. Needs lots of sweetener and still can’t be sweet.
