Antoine Winfield, Adam Thielen And The Non-Catch

Very insightful stuff here from the Panthers with different looks at the Adam Thielen touchdown catch that wasn’t on Sunday.
The play was ruled incomplete and it appeared game officials didn’t have all available replay angles to make a fully-educated assessment on review.
However, Thielen was mic’d up for the game and NFL Films had a bunch of cameras following him, angles not seen on TV. But they are seen in the Mic’d Up segment at the Panthers’ official website, where Joe sees Thielen’s right hand came off the ball has he hit the ground to make the catch.
Also seen is Thielen putting his right hand back on the ball — out of bounds — in an effort to secure it through the catch.
There’s no way that incomlete call would have/should have been overturned.
Most interesting to Joe was hearing Thielen getting that exact explanation from a referee in real-time. It sure would have been nice to hear that on th FOX broadcast.
Also interesting for Joe was getting a better look at Antoine Winfield, Jr. in position to make a play but not making it.
Winfield isn’t the same player this season. His Week-1-injured foot allegedly is 100 percent healthy but Joe wouldn’t bet on it.

Let it go Joe on to the next game. AW not sure what is going on with him he has just been non factor this year not sure he is healthy.

Joe you and I were watching the TV angles which didn’t show the ball rattling around in Thielens hands as he hit the ground. I thought they would likely call it a TD. But if what you say is true, it was by rule an incomplete pass.
I must say though that Thielen made some great plays in the game, particularly the one that put the Panthers in position for a FG in overtime. But, our defense that never gets any credit, stole the ball from Hubbard. And our explosive offense put together an incredible drive to win the game !!!!

Antoine not playing well is a function of player regression resulting from coaching. All the Bucs best defenders have regressed. Devin White and Carlton Davis regressed themselves out of town. Vita, Yaya, Gaines, Britt, Gholston, Dean, Whitehead and Winfield have all regressed. The results show it. All22 film doesn’t lie. LVD is fighting like hell against regression, but he’s an aging warrior and one man can’t do it by himself.
Zyon, Tykee and Izien are all showing signs of it.
This is where we miss Suh and JPP – leadership that Coich doesn’t provide.

I’m confused . So because his right hand came off the ball even though he had control its not a touchdown? So what if he caught it one handed and had control? That’s a touchdown. As a Bucs fan I’m happy they got it wrong because we have been on the other side of that call too many times to count, so the panthers get no sympathy from me.

That pic shows potential bobbling. Glad the call stood ( obviously ).
Winfield is the highest paid safety in the league now ( I think ) .
He doesn’t t seem like type to ease up once he got the bag 💰.
He’s been a play late and several dollars/yards short this season…no doubt about it.

Disappointed with the overall effort, but this was the right call. The Official was standing right overtop of him as he came down. I’ve said it before, but never underestimate these division games especially if you are a gambler. The teams know each other too well and a lot of times there are upsets.

I bowl in a league with a former Bucs defensive back. I asked him about Winfield. He said he got paid. He will never be the same.

I agree, I thought his hand came off the ball as well. I do not feel bad as the Bucs have been the non-beneficiary of many of those calls back to the Winslow OPI. Winfield seems a step slower, hoping his film study becomes like LVD, he is a step slower but his knowledge and fundamentals compensate. Maybe an issue is these guys never really had a losing season, so maybe it is a youngry issue

Winfield wood usually play a lot loser if it were not for the injuries in the secondary. Without Jordan Whitehead and Mike Edwards he has to be doing a lot more to protect that back end without any help that he can count on. What’s really hurting us right now is Tykee’s absence. When he gets back I think we’ll see a big difference.

I clearly saw his hand come off the ball on the game replay. But I’m an official and know what to look for. Most people are just looking to see if the ball hit the ground

The idiot doing color on the broadcast was the leading provider of fake news during the game, getting pretty much everything wrong. Truly an awful broadcaster. Between him and that hack Chris Meyers, I had to turn off the audio. Not sure why the Bucs have to be punished because the Panthers stink.

That was funny. Joe doesn’t pay anyone to spew negativity. If you go to the game and sit in the 300 level, you’ll hear angry fans, hateful fans, love-everything fans. No different here. Comments aren’t has popular as they seem. Joe runs polls weekly with many hundreds of replies in 90 minutes are so. You can see fans aren’t feeling so warm and fuzzy (collectively) about the club.
In summary, Joe doesn’t believe in telling fans how to be fans. They come in all forms. Perennial haters, fan boys, whatever. Joe has gotten reams of hate mail from Rachaad White fans. It’s ok. we can all disagree and cheer touchdowns together. –Joe

Rod, I agree with you about the broadcast. I got very tired of hearing how great Bryce and the panthers were. As for Chris Myers he should get fired from our preseason games for the way he treated the Bucs in that game. He was awful as well.

Thielen caught the ball and maintained control of it through hitting the ground with at least one hand. A one handed catch. Doesn’t matter if one hand came off the ball.

The NFL should have cameras every yard from 8 angles for the amount of money the sport makes. No excuse for this “not a good angle” stuff in real time.
