“Nobody Flinched”

December 3rd, 2024

It is said that teams take on the personality of their head coach.

Joe realizes that makes some Bucs fans uneasy.

Todd Bowles is not a popular head coach and a lot of Bucs fans don’t like his chill and chronically steady demenor.

Bowles made a comment yesterday to WFLA-TV sports chief Dan Lucas that showed that Bowles was proud of his team acting, well, like Bowles.

After Baker Mayfield’s second brutal interception on a 3rd-and-1 play, Bowles said his team was pure glue, a unified rock.

“Nobody flinched on the sideline. He threw the interception; nobody got upset,” Bowles said, aware that an untimely screwup like that can rattle some teams.

“The defense went out and played. The offense went back out there and ran the ball and made some timely throws and we got it done.”

Yes, Bowles is brimming with confidence while much of Bucs fandom is completely flummoxed by the Bucs’ uninspiring showing at Carolina on Sunday.

Regardless, it’s easy to see that the Bucs are a tight group capable of weathering rollercoaster-ride games and an up-and-down season. The proved it last year and are in the midst of it in 2024.

Can the Falcons pull that off without becoming a fractured roster? Joe wouldn’t bet on it.

If Bowles has no hand in the offense and his defense is terrible what exactly is he good for? If we don’t win the division and miss the playoffs the hammer should come down squarely on his head.

  2. TampaBayBucFan Says:

    Nobody flinched?

Time & time this year our defense gave up scores at the end of the game ending up in a Bucs loss.
We gave up another yesterday after leading by 4……and almost gave one up in overtime.
We simply can’t trust this defense in a close game.

That is a sad state considering our heavy draft investment in this defense and a supposed defensive “GURU” at HC.

  3. Rob S Says:

I’m not personally worried about the Carolina game and how it went. Last week the Chiefs barely squeaked by at the wire against the same team. What worries me more is the decisions and playcalling on D.. I get that they are really short due to injuries– however playing 10 yards off on a 3rd and 3 is insane. And staying in a zone that is getting clobbered while the man is doing well is even insanier (yes, that should be a word). That’s the answers I want to hear. It’s not like the downfield coverage would be hurt if the corners played just a LITTLE closer to the line.

  4. SB~LV Says:

    🥱🥱🥱🥱🥱
This team doesn’t have the talent, too many on IR , to be anything other than Wildcard meat … the Panthers game was just like the Bucs first loss to the season, flat flat flat but some how they managed a W on Sunday.

  5. David Pear Says:

The data show his zone schemes are second to none……….at making pedestrian quarterbacks look like all pros.

    The data show it.
    We know it.
    O’Connell’s gonna throw it.
    Coach will blow it.

  6. Derek Says:

I swear if Dean keeps playing 15 yards off the ball every play i’m gonna lose it.

  7. MikeD Says:

remember back in 2020. the falcons were garbage and we were losing. and then we came back. resiliency is a big factor moving forward to getting hopefully five wins

  8. Bucs Bucs Bucs! Says:

The Bucs have a tight team. They are close to top 3. Give us 4 more players, mostly on Defense, and we’re there. Go Bucs.

  9. Tucker Says:

Can the bucs do anything with this crappy zone defense? Tucker wouldn’t bet on it.

  10. orlbucfan Says:

Next time there’s a situation like that 3rd and 1, and Baker is hurt, he needs to swallow his paranoia over Trask and sit. That cost the Bucs 4 points and was just plain stubborn stupidity on his part. Right now, the Offense is healthier than the Defense. I’ve said it before, and I’ll repeat it: Offense needs to carry this team now. That’s on Coen and Mayfield. I want to hear some common sense and intelligence in the O calls Sunday.

  11. Mhystc Says:

Would love to see the Bucs use Rakim Jarrett and Kameron Johnson.

  12. heyjude Says:

The players are definitely unified. Good to see. However, we fans were flinching, especially on the open thread!

  13. David Pear Says:

New name for the Bucs defense —

    The Flinchstones

  14. BallHawk75 Says:

The best defenses play tough in your face football.

Not this soft Swiss cheese sit back and hope crap.

It’s like we’re in a constant prevent defense.

Which generally results in preventing victory.

Bowels is happy to lose his way.

  15. Lightningvinny Says:

Don’t need defense anymore ,,, Liam will run the ball ,,, Bucky and White ,, white and Bucky ,, and ohhhhhh then that play action pass!!!
We will play either Minn or GB in playoffs ,, Home game and will run all day!!
Not sure we could beat Det again ,, still not sure how that happened

  16. FreddyBucsFan Says:

Ask Todd about Lavonte David throwing his helmet almost 30ft on the sidelines after the D gave up the TD near the end of regulation. I was at the game, and it was very visible. LD was anything but calm and collected.

  17. rrsrq Says:

A game like that may show resilience, it is a divisional opponent on the road where the HC knows the Bucs personnel. Who else is on that team, Thomkins and Moore at receivers. Do not forget coaches Idzik, Godwin, and Gilbert. That matters, they went against Bowles’s defense every day and sat in meetings with him. If healthy, minus Denis and Godwin, Tyke Smith comes back, let’s see what’s up with Edwards and some decent play from inside linebackers not named David, they can keep the remaining teams on the schedule to under 20 points. Anything is possible.

  18. FlBoy84 Says:

This says MUCH more about Bakler’s overall performance this season than any impact from Bowles. The only reason we might see Atlanta implode is due to Cousin’s erractic/poor showing in games when he’s not facing a Bowles led defense lol

  19. Buddha Says:

Is anyone on this site rooting for the Buccaneers

  20. ModHairKen Says:

    They won.

That’s the purpose of playing the game.

All this hysteria about HOW they played when they won the game is what losers do.

  21. GoneGator Says:

Team game. Family. Band of brothers.

The team fights for each other and for the fans (although many of you do NOTHING but bitch and put the team, players, coaches down with every comment) and they don’t give up on each other….

Unlike some of you miserable f&ck#rs.

  22. David Pear Says:

Most on this site know football, particularly defense, the historical cornerstone of the franchise. Hence most on this site know rotten soft defense and that’s the product coach is trotting out on the field every week and why LVD launched his helmet.

The data prove it. The data also prove there is a solution, a way to correct the defects. Play more press man. But coach won’t do it. He has to know, and he won’t do it.

Being a good fan is being objective about the team, not blindly applauding everything bad they do and feeling like others are the enemy.

Jason and the Glazers know, there is no room for the Buccaneers to have a sustained bottom tier defense. If coach doesn’t correct when known solutions exist, ownership and management will.

    I am! – Buddha

Unified team will figure things out. True fans will support them through easy and hard games. We still in the hunt. We showed perseverance through all the injuries. Let’s keep chopping that wood!

Let’s Buck, Tuck, White and BAKE!!!!!!
    Go Bucs!!!

  24. heyjude Says:

Buddha – Yes, many of us here are on the hope train. Go Bucs!

  25. GoneGator Says:

Predicting another loss next week @Dave Pear ?

Btw – your last post had something besides cute nicknames and a rerun of your last 50 comments! Congratulations for putting a tiny amount of thought into this one although I’m not sure how sound your logic is.

Most on this site know football, particularly defense, the historical cornerstone of the franchise.

    You sure about this one?

Being a good fan is being objective about the team, not blindly applauding everything bad they do and feeling like others are the enemy.

You (for one) are not objective Dave…..get outta here. You have posted the same shlt about Todd, with different words and witty nicknames, for months…..on every single thread no matter what the topic!! Not 1 positive or good thing to say.

Nobody is blindly applauding anything bad.
Those of us who are keeping the faith see the issues. We have our ideas about how they could be fixed too.

I, for one, scrutinize the team and their performance. I see soft zone, I see antsy Baker, I see lack of pressure, I see WR’s not stepping up, I see Coen make bad calls, Winfield regressing, etc etc etc but I also see players not giving up and keeping hope/faith. If they don’t have hope they should be on the bench…..or sitting with you somewhere complaining about another MAN trying hard to do his job.

I’m all for discussing Todds future (after the season or when/if we are out of the dance) but not while we (the players) are still fighting to succeed. And the constant petitioning for Todd to be fired is tiring for those of us who come here regularly and don’t accept that we suck and will continue to do so and that somebody new with some magical formula is going to make us better somehow.

Remember we were supposed to win 5-6 games all season…this year and last.

  26. David Pear Says:

Hope isn’t a strategy or a solution. If you don’t think coach must improve defensive performance when a proven solution exists, you’re not a football fan. You’re a cheerleader with blinders on, riding in a car going 100 mph straight into a stone wall.

Most of us want the Bucs to win and know they won’t if something isn’t done about the defense, immediately.

  27. BucU Says:

Bowles ought to be ashamed of the defensive product he puts on the field this year. I’m sick of QB’s having career days against us. He’s a dinosaur in a modern world. The 2 ATL games this year is reason enough to send him packing.

  28. BucU Says:

This team is 2-4 in their last 6 games. The 2 games we won were literally against the 2 worst teams in the entire league. So forgive us if we aren’t fawning all over Todd Bowles season performance. Geesh.

  29. Gipper Says:

Somebody commented here that Bucs need 4 or 5 new defenders. Some one else commented that they need to play more press, man to man coverage. Think those are two great suggestions. The current defense and players are not going to get it done. Have seen consistent failure for the last two years in crunch time. Pretty sure Licht will devote offseason to fixing defense. If the team makes the playoffs this year, Todd Bowles will return in 2025.

  30. Stanglassman Says:

Why come just to insult Joe. Sure feels malicious.
    It’s a football game.
Anything can happen. That’s why it’s fun. Wasn’t counting on poor play from Mayfield.
You can dissect any analyst any week. The greats are correct at best two-thirds of the time. –Joe

  31. GoneGator Says:

    Hope isn’t a strategy or a solution.

LMFAO – hope is what we, including you Dave, base our entire lifes on. Its the only strategy if you want to be honest about it.

You hope you’ll wake up tomorrow. You hope you can still see and hear and type so you can make your comments on a website that you hope will still be here for you to post them. You hope those you care about will be safe and alive. You hope people will give you attention when you call Todd some cute little name.

The difference is what we hope for.

This team is 2-4 in their last 6 games. The 2 games we won were literally against the 2 worst teams in the entire league.

One could also make a claim that we have 2 wins against the best 2 teams in the league ,, (although I think Buffalo is one of those, Det /Phily is ranked 1,2 among some pundits )

  34. Lightningvinny Says:

Oh and by the way ,, Bucs are now the Co-Betting favorites to win the NFC South

  35. Henry Says:

Dang, chill out GoneGator. Leave poor Dave alone. Everybody is entitled to their opinion no matter how right, wrong or annoying.

  36. churrasco Says:

orlbucfan Says: “Next time there’s a situation like that 3rd and 1, and Baker is hurt, he needs to swallow his paranoia over Trask and sit.”

Nah, he prefers to go in and cost us the game than risk letting the 6’5″ guy who outplayed him in training camp play with the starters and make him look like the ho-hum journeyman he is.

  37. David Pear Says:

GoneGator is entitled to act the fool all he wants. Fans must hold their team accountable or they get lost decades like the Bucs have experienced from 1983-1996, and again from 2009-2019.

Right now, the accountable person is the head coach / defensive coordinator, who ignores the horror show that is his defense, refuses to address the same mistakes made every week, needs luck and a major malfunction by opposing coaches (see Lions game, Panthers fiasco) to win a close game, and generally has a defense that emulates a fetal position when trying to hold a lead at the end of a game.

He can’t hide. We can’t let him hide. Sorry if that’s not cheery enough, it’s fact based reality. But Gone Gator puffs up and feels good about being an itch with a b. Cool for him/her.

  38. Kenton Smith Says:

churrasco, orlbucfan somehow has been jumping on Baker for being “paranoid about losing his position to Trask”. It’s pretty apparent he should have waited a series before coming back in. But it’s 100percent wrong to think he came back in out of paranoia. WRONG! “he prefers to go in and cost us the game “. WRONG!! The 6’5” guy who outplayed him in training camp “. WRONG AGAIN! “make him look like the hohum journeyman he is “. WRONG,WRONG, and WRONG!!! Note to self-churrasco is wrong about everything.

  39. Kenton Smith Says:

But it would be right to say that churrasco has a crush on our backupQB

  40. David Pear Says:

Certain reptiles have intelligence quotients measured in single digits.

  41. David Pear Says:

And Todd is great. Todd is good. Todd bless the Bucs.

  42. Bartow Buc Says:

I believe Coach Bowles said “Nobody Flinched” because that’s exactly what happened when Baker threw the Interception. The Bucs are a team seasoned by games against very tough competitors this season. They knew no matter what happened, they were still a team that could score and win, if they got a chance. As we all know the Bucs tied it up and forced overtime with only 30 seconds left!!
    The rest is history!!

Go Bucs !! Beat the Raiders !!

  43. David Pear Says:

Kenton Smith – Algo Rhythm doesn’t seem to like it when I name a poster in a post to thank them and agree with them, so you probably won’t ever see this. But, thank you, I agree with you, Go Bucs.

  44. GoneGator Says:

Its all good Dave Pear, I’m thru with giving a shlt about simpletons like you. I’ve said my piece and you’ve answered with more of your witty little one liners, which is about what I expected.

I won’t address you again as long as you keep my name out of your whiny, loser, mouth. I won’t be criticizing you for blaming Todd for whatever you want to anymore.

I will try to remember that maybe you have “issues” and aren’t that intelligent. I should be more compassionate & sympathetic and not “triggered” by your constantly negative, repetitive posts.

God bless your miserable little soul. Peace be with you.

  45. David Pear Says:

  46. churrasco Says:

    Kenton Smith,

You another Oklahoma Baker Boi who follows your man crush around the NFL? We have many here (or just a few who change their names monthly lol).

  47. GoneGator Says:

    @churrasco
You another UF alumni slobbering over a back up who has shown coaches and everyone else that he has limited value. Who’s crushing who?

Got nothing against Kyle . I hope all our players will succeed. But come on man, that ship has sailed.
