Career-High Completions For Bryce Young

December 1st, 2024

So the Bucs had only one official pass defensed today, a huge one by Zyon McCollum, while sad Panthers quarterback Bryce Young had a career high 26 completions and 20 incompletions.

What happened?

All together now, “Soft zone meets no edge rush.”

Joe is aging rapidly through this gut-wrenching Bucs season. The way the Bucs make so many quarterbacks look special is astounding.

Consider that Kirk Cousins has thrown 9 touchdown passes and 12 interceptions in the 10 games he’s played that were not against Tampa Bay. Versus the Bucs, Cousins has 8 TD throws and 1 interception through two Falcons victories.

Does anyone think that’s a coincidence?

Joe was hopeful today with Calijah Kancey and Vita Vea entering the game hot and the Bucs having starting cornerbacks Jamel Dean and Zyon McCollum back healthy for the second consecutive game. But the pass defense was the same old sad story, though it looked slighly less ugly because the Panthers’ have subpar receivers overall.

Joe admits that losing safety Mike Edwards early in the game (hamstring) looked like a significant loss since Edwards had made a couple of plays, but that’s a bit of a reach.

If the Bucs hope to do anything special this season, Todd Bowles has to re-think his soft-zone, off-coverage pass defense.

Call Rosenhouse , see if he can get us a 32 year old pass rusher that in the past helped us win a Super Bowl ,,
See if he knows a punter too

  2. Sheen Says:

Vin – Shaq can’t play for anyone else this season…Fins won’t release him

  3. Sheen Says:

We also lost Britt which really put our pass defense in a bind

  4. Beeej Says:

    lol

  5. DBS Says:

1 sack by accident. Only because they blew their own assignment to keep their QB upright. Even the announcers tried to cover for that.

  6. B Says:

Still..if you think about it..the defense played well enough to win in regulation if the offense put up their standard 28 points

  7. Winny Testaverde Says:

Bucs defense tend to bring out the best in certain QBs…I’ve never seen Bryce Young look better ( except on a the Alabama All-Star Team ). They made Kissin’ Cousins look All -Pro…twice…and he may be benched soon. Brock Purdy will owe some of his future signing bonus after playing him 3 times thus far. It’s maddening and difficult to watch at times.

I don’t see how the Bucs pay Dean all this money for him to be 10 yards away from his guy pre snap. All the money and high draft picks on D and they can’t control the kitties today?!?! Yaya made 2 plays today that showed he was still with the Bucs. Anthony saved Bowles today! Bowles being a D coach he should be embarrassed how his D performs week in and week out. All these D lineman playing cornerback is just a joke. Saw Kancey just blow through the interior line and a couple plays later he’s playing OLB standing up????

  9. DBS Says:

If you think about it and they are given the points the should have scored no they didn’t.

  10. Lightningvinny Says:

I was under the impression that the Dolphins could release him ,, he would have to clear waivers and then could sign with us ,,, other teams wouldn’t claim him do to the fact he wouldn’t report ,,, I think Drew has a plan,,, maybe it’s to play with the Dolphins but I would doubt it

Don’t worry, our goal is the Superbowl

Only bowl Todd is going to is the toilet bowl

  13. All_da_way Says:

Bucs pass rush can’t reach the QB with how much off and quarters coverage they are playing. Young was tossing that ball out ASAP under Canales orders. And it almost won them the game.

  14. #1bucsfan Says:

Something’s gotta change. Is lovie or mike smith now coaching our defense. It’s ridiculous we can be this bad. It’s so bad it rubbed off on our offense this week. Talk about contagious

  15. Hearty Dikerson Says:

The fact that Bowles’ defensive scheme, by design, keeps DBs 10 yards away from WRs with the intention of allowing them to catch the ball and then make the tackle is unforgivable. And then he has the gall to complain how his defense doesn’t get enough interceptions.

2 pass defended all game. SMH

Look, this ain’t rocket science. We’re missing that wrecking ball up front—a Suh or Hicks type, a real dog at 5-tech. You know, the kind of guy who makes O-lines panic, chews through double teams like they’re snacks, and owns the backfield like it’s his second home. That’s the guy who makes everything work: linebackers get free lanes, and the young bulls will eat.

So yeah, Jason Licht’s gotta step his game up this offseason. Go grab a Jeffrey Simmons or DeForest Buckner—one of those game-wrecking dudes who changes everything. And don’t forget the draft—bring in a MIKE like Jihaad Campbell out of Bama or Jay Higgins from Iowa. Those are the pieces that can take this defense from “meh” to darn right terrifying.

And let’s not pretend Todd Bowles doesn’t know what he’s doing. Child, please. This is the guy who built that insane, Super Bowl-winning defense—the man’s an architect. He knows exactly what it looks like when the right pieces are in place. Sure, we’ve got some growing pains right now, but when it clicks, it’s gonna be worth every damn penny.

    Go Bucs!

  17. Dave Pear Says:

Joes – Ira – you have the press passes , the access, credibility and data from your polls.

Ask The Guy the questions. Ask him the hard ones. There were bits of defense when press man blitz was played, wins were had.

But not when it matters the most. It’s obvious to everyone, likely Jason and the Glazernauts, so…

ask the questions for us. Not expecting him to answer but he needs to know that everyone knows and he is no longer shielded by some defensive masturmind facade.

  18. Rod Munch Says:

Just for the record — you can play a tight zone, and you can even bring pressure while playing zone! It’s true, I checked the rule book and everything. Someone let Todd know.

  19. Itzok Says:

Trade picks and cash for miles garrett this off-season. Anyone in Cleveland is wasting their career. Please tell me an edge rusher is available in free agency.

  20. Dave Pear Says:

Anyone suggesting a player can be the answer with this coich is delusional. Todd would have Myles Garrett trying to cover Amon Ra St Brown, or dropping into 30 yards deep middle zone . This is a “you’re playing my scheme” coach like Lovie was, not an “adjust scheme to fit the players” coach like Monte was.

And he was. Just listen to Ronde Barber describe his/their evolution.

  21. Hodad Says:

Todd Bolwes defense is designed to keep everything in front of it. That’s why DBs play ten yards off ball. It’s why every week whoever is calling our game points out the easy completions we give up by scheme. Todd hopes for mistakes, he doesn’t try to make things happen in the secondary. He’s aggressive blitzing, but that gets home less, and less do to offenses knowing when, and where it’s coming. We’ve been figured out, coupled with poor play. Not going to change under Todd.

  22. Henry Says:

Coach Repus Blows needs to go and take Jamal “Charmin” Dean and a few others with him, namely the coaches not named Coen.

  23. drdneastup Says:

12 games into the season the defense isn’t going to awaken from it’s coma and start sacking and harassing the QB into mistakes and incompletions. Licht is responsible for this mess so while he soaks up the platitudes for the offensive line make sure he suffers from the arrows of having such a limp impotent defense. His solution of Randy Gregory was a joke No trade at deadline. No FA signing. They both doomed this team. All so he could try and save his ego from drafting back to back busts in Logan Hall and JTMs.
