Testing Running Backs’ Eyes

December 1st, 2024

Panthers first-year head coach Dave Canales talks Bucs defense.

Panthers head coach Dave Canales, last year’s Bucs offensive coordinator, gave some cool insight into the Todd Bowles defense on Friday.

Canales, of course, knows all things Bowles very well. And he sounded like a playcaller who is expecting his young quarterback, Bryce Young, to take a barrage of blitzes today when the Bucs-Panthers game kicks off at 4 o’clock.

Frankly, if Bowles doesn’t blitz Young a lot — considering he’s got his starting cornerbacks back on the field healthy — then Joe might have a complete meltdown.

Canales said Bowles is a masterful disruptor.

“A coordinator that’s not just going to let you sit back there and run your normal plays. He’s going to challenge all your protections. He’s going to challenge your concepts — all the different things that require the eyes of the running back,” Canales told his team’s’ website. ” … Different types of coverage styles, so that your receivers aren’t just attacking the same coverages the same way. And he’s doing it for so long. You know, he’s got a real knack for when to call what.”

Joe sees Young as a quarterback who occasionally makes some A+ reads and touch throws, but he’s definitely inconsistent and he only scrambles about three times a game.

If the Bucs defense plays like an average NFL defense today, the Panthers should be in for a long afternoon.

I’m hoping our defense can wipe that dorky smile off his clueless face here in about 7 hours or so! GO BUCS!!

The Giants game was in a way a statement game but really burying the Panthers would be a statement game. Bucs have to take car of business and win or the season is basically over.

Canales is a class act. He was the right guy at the right time last year. He has a skeleton offense, yet nearly beat the chiefs .

  4. Crickett Baker Says:

The Panthers have become my least favorite team and I hope to see Canales completely confused by our defense. I would love to see us blow those kitties into the litter box. GO BUCS!

A very nice opinion about Todd Bowles from Canales. Bowles, “the masterful disruptor,” must bring it on today! Go Bucs!

  6. Dave Pear Says:

In other words, Canales expects his QB to shred the Cover Who zoneless, put up a 30 burger, and have a career day.

That picture reminds me of the cornball faces of Shamiss Jamiss ATM so funny! Hopefully they keep him in the pocket and don’t let him in open space because it will be a long day for our defense

Cricket Baker, that’s wild to me. Panthers would be my 3rd most hated team, they are too bad to hate much and I don’t have any ill will towards Canales, Chuba is easy to root for (although I don’t).

Saints are still enemy #1 for me but right now it’s close with the Falcons for many reasons. Hate Cousins, hate how they got away with a couple Ws this year over us and everyone crowning them.

Nice to see Cousins just throw a red zone INT and stay 4 points behind the chargers. Let’s see a score Chargers! Ahh nevermind punt.
