Tykee Smith Among Three Bucs Ruled Out For Sunday; Tristan Wirfs Is A Gametime Decision

November 29th, 2024

Status for Carolina game.

The headline here says it all. Fingers officially are crossed for All-World left tackle Tristan Wirfs to return from his sprained knee on Sunday.

Wirfs missed last Sunday’s game and backup Justin Skule played darn well in his absence.

Bucs head coach Todd Bowles said there’s a lot of confidence in Skule at One Buc.

Rookie nickel cornerback Tykee Smith has been ruled out, per Bowles, who said Smith’s deep bruise has yet to heal.

Also on the sidelines injured will be safety Jordan Whitehead (pec) and milk carton candidate/outside linebacker Markees Watts (knee).

What exactly about Tristan Wirfs? We’ll find out 90 minutes before kickoff Sunday, Bowles cautioned.

“He’s in question,” Bowles said today. “Another game-time [decision].”

It seems Bowles isn’t sweating Wirfs. Skule fared well against Burns on Sunday (Baker Mayfield wasn’t sacked and was only hit twice),

“We’re not trying to rush [Wirfs] back anyway, but Skule did a decent job last week,” Bowles said.

If Skule can hold his own against Burns — which he did — Skule shouldn’t be abused by the lousy Stinking Panthers defense.

More concerned about Tykee than Wirfs.

O-line, even with Skule, has been balling.

  2. JimBobBuc Says:

I hope Tykee stays away from Jamal Dean’s bad habits. This is concerning to me.

  3. Saskbucs Says:

OL and offense been humming so not too concerned about Wirfs. Would rather have Tykee out there Sunday, something I never imagined thinking let alone saying at the start of this season. That D needs all the help it can get.

  4. David Kilmer Says:

yes more concerned about Tykee. Man we really need him, this defense so poor an he really made a difference. Oh well, the way it goes. Is it going to be middle of the field open all day making young look incredible. Stay tuned we will know shortly if Young is stepping up to elite status thanks to Bucs D

  5. Aceofaerospace Says:

Joe, why’d you delete the article about the Bears interviewing Coen? Did it turn out to be a false rumor?

  6. A Bucs Fan Says:

Deep bone bruises can take a month or more to heal. Feel for Tykee! He was just turning it on!

  7. heyjude Says:

Feel for Tykee too. Sounds serious. We won’t know about Wirfs until Sunday. Since he is still questionable, let him rest another week.

  8. Bucs Guy Says:

Agree with letting Wirfs rest. Should be able to beat the Panthers w/o him. Will need him more against Maxx Crosby the next week.

  9. Badbucs Says:

As much as I doubted it could happen, Skules has apparently become an NFL player. I dogged him bad. Good for you Skules. Great to have a competent swing tackle
Keep it up please. Keep the Detroit tape for where you came from.
    Go Bucs!!!

  10. David Says:

I think they can rest WIRFS this game. Skyler did well and the Panthers D is not all that.

The defense really needs the speed of
    Tykee Smith and SirV Dennis

I was getting excited about both of them before the injuries

  11. HC Grover Says:

Should of rested Wirfs against the Midgets.
