Chris Godwin: No Return Date Goal In Place
November 26th, 2024So Buccaneers great Chris Godwin was talking yesterday about his rehab from a dislocated ankle suffered against the Ravens on Oct. 21.
It was a gruesome injury that required surgery and, per Godwin, he has yet to walk on his repaired foot.
“Not weight-bearing for six weeks,” Godwin told the Buccaneers Radio Network.
So when will Godwin return? Godwin made it clear he won’t allow himself to set those milestones yet. First will come walking, he said, and then getting his calf and quad muscles back in shape.
When Godwin starts running and fully training, that’s when he said he will set goals.
After his October surgery, Godwin said publicly that returning for the playoffs this season was a best-case scenario, but he wasn’t going there yesterday.
Joe has been told privately that Godwin is probably looking at March for a full recovery. Godwin didn’t offer a timetable yesterday other than saying the ankle should be a much easier and faster rehab than it was for his brutal knee injury in December of 2021.
After that injury, Godwin was back on the field in about 8 1/2 months.
Confidence was flowing from Godwin, though, as was a great attitude. He said he’ll no doubt be back on the field at an elite level. And what felt very unlike Godwin, he boasted for a brief moment about the stunning 2024 season he was having.
“Man, I was on a bit of a heater there,” Godwin said.
He sure was.
Despite missing four games, Godwin still ranks 24th in the NFL this season in total receptions (50) and his 5 touchdowns catches are tied for 13th-best.

Roquan Smith deserves any/all ills that can come his way. Sadly the Bucs won’t see the Ravens again for a long time. Someone else will have to take him out .

Fuc$!?& sucks man he’s out.

It’s a shame how badly the coaching staff failed him. Contract year, tearing it up, and risked it all over a 3 score non-conference game with only six and half minutes left. Wishing a CG a speedy recovery. Amazing player and person

speedy recovery – he was gonna get paid too. YUGELY.
I wonder if he’ll stay here. Seems like bad juju in Tampa.

I hope the Bucs sign him to a nice, fat contract. He deserves it. Us fans deserve it too.

He’s the most clutch WR Bucs have. Yes, even more than ME.

It was an illegal tackle that injured Godwin. Very dirty play by Roquan Smith. Hip drop tackles are designed to injure where full weight of tackler comes down on ball carriers shins and ankles.

Nice job Coach. Ravens have their starters out and you have ours in and then this happens. What is even more amazing is that you did the same stupid crap with Baker in New York the other day. Bowles may be a good guy and his players may love him, but his decisions on various things are poor, and his defense has been the same of late. We need a change in coaching. I am standing by that.

needs to be a Buc for life

Don’t know if the Bucs will be able to afford Chris next year. Think the focus will be on defense. Bucs need some premier pass rushers and LBs. Have to think LVD is retiring?

Our best WR…. yes better than Evans

If we keep Liam, he has to come back.
November 26th, 2024 at 1:42 pm
he’s yet to step on it…let’s try to be realistic…he’s out for the season…
hopefully he recovers to ball again…but this year he is understandably done…
that foot is not ready for anything…not even ankle bites from a french bulldog puppy 🙂

Sounds like a 1yr “prove-it” contract LOADED UP with incentives to me, IF as long as his recovery goes well. And, there’s no reason to believe that it won’t. It’s a “Win-Win” for everyone, that way! Chris gets to ‘ball-out’ THEN hit the open market fully healthy, & with another strong season behind him. Hopefully (for him), he’ll get another chance of hitting that JACKPOT!!!!

Three things must happen in offseason.
1. Liam Cohen should be named HC
2. TB has to resign Chris Godwin
3. Bucs draft/sign all defensive players
That’s my take on the team’s situation. Few of the right guys and we’re right back in the damn SB. Why not steer that ship right into another SB trophy?

Never forgive Bowles for what happened to Godwin. It could’ve easily been Baker that week, or last. The Ravens had already sat Jackson, it was over. Todd won’t be back next year if it means losing Coen. Glazers didn’t make billions by being stupid.

A March “ full recovery “ is ABSOLUTELY the best news JBF has posted in months!
My gawd that was an UGLY image of his foot pointing in the wrong direction.
He was having a GREAT season until that moment

BTW that was NOT a hip drop tackle even though it had the effect that a solo hip drop tackle would have and the new rule is designed to prevent.
As I recall there were two defenders with Godwin in the middle as a result of the flow of the three players colliding one of the defenders did slide down the back of Godwins leg resulting in the twist and pull down from behind. It was a very unfortunate situation but not a executed hip drop tackle!
