Bucky Irving Has Best Receiving Hands Among NFL RBs

November 25th, 2024

The 2024 numbers do not lie.

So what NFL running back has caught the highest percentage of throws sent his way?

The answer is Buccaneers rookie sensation running back Bucky Irving. He’s hauled in 94.1 percent of his targets.

That’s a notch ahead of Lions RB David Montgomery at 92.3 percent. Bengals tight end Erick All ranks third and fellow Bucs RB Rachaad White is fourth at 90.5 percent.

What a dynamic pass-catching duo the Bucs have in their backfield! White and Irving are each averaging 7.9 yards per reception. That ties them for 22nd in the NFL in yards per catch among running backs with 20 catches or more.

Yes, that’s no typo. They’re tied for 22nd.

White averaged 8.6 yards per catch last season. That ranked fourth among NFL running backs with 30 or more catches.

Of course, Irving is a dual threat while White is not. Irving ranks fifth in the NFL this season in yards per carry among running backs — 5.4 yards per rush.

White is near the bottom of the league at 3.7 yards per carry, his career average.

bucky is the bestest of the best…if he would only stop rockin’ that st. louis cardinals hat, and start sporting a bucs hat, the young buc would he the town’s local hero

  2. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    What a draft pick….

  3. Sheen Says:

Love how they were putting both Rachaad and Bucky out wide last game!!

  4. GoneGator Says:

So now let’s all start calling for White’s demotion in favor of the friggin bug and tug show…

Let’s not celebrate our newly found run game, or Bucky’s success, without a dig at Rachaad. SMH.

Without RW our offense suffers greatly. Fact. Period.

  5. Dom Says:

    RB room roles should be

    Bucky RB1
    White 3rd down/passing downs
Tucker Change of pass runner for Bucky and closer

  6. Pewter Power Says:

On any other team Bucky would be a lead back and unquestioned starter.

  7. Matt Says:

    GoneGator, 100%

GoneGator anyone with an eye for football knows how good Rachaad is. This offense would not be as good without him. But he’s got competition now and that’s a good thing for us. Because we’ve got 3 playmakers and all three seem to be responding to that in a professional manner. Defining their strengths is all Liam is trying to do-to make us a better football team.

Gone Gator how is it you’re such fanboy of White??? It makes absolutely no sense! Baker bois I can somewhat understand why but for White! I mean why do you get so butt hurt over him???

  10. Saskbucs Says:

I like Rachaad a lot, he is a great pass catching back. He is a terrible rusher. I’m glad he is on our team because he is a weapon but he’s basically a WR weapon, not an RB weapon.

Most of us don’t want to see him out there on 1st down or inside the 10 yard line because of the above. If Bucky is in the there, the D has to be on their toes cause he could go for 20 on the ground or through the air. White could go for 20 through the air but the D knows they could drop and still come up to make the play if White gets the ball handed off to him.

Honestly it probably has less to do with RW and more to do with taking up for anyone who gets trashed by people, who can’t seem to see the big picture, and feel the need to constantly berate people.

Its a habit, feeling an impulse to take up for people getting piled on especially if its with uneducated, or “misguided” takes by people who refuse to look past what they already believe or what someone else tells them to think.

Was Baker at 1st but thats been put to rest (for now) 🙂

  12. Bucks 'n' Bucs Says:

I like White because it’s almost expected that he’s going to run for no gain. The defense bunches up and makes play action more effective.

All of the backs have their purpose.

  13. Bartow Buc Says:

Love the way White has explosive runs after Bucky makes a great play !! We could do this all season !!

    Go Bucs !!

  14. GoneGator Says:

Take away the 1 big run (56 yards) and Bucky’s avg was 2.8 ypc on 11 carries.

Bucky is great! Not saying he isn’t exciting. He runs hard, he’s quick, he’s great in small spaces. Go Bucky!

Just saying theres more to the picture than some of yall factor in. Plenty of room in our RB room for all 3 backs. I don’t care who’s called “starter” @ tailback but for gods sake you don’t want to take RW out of the equation – he’s an elite playmaker.

  15. #1bucsfan Says:

Really like what Bucky does. He’s a better hand off running back then white but I still think white is a tad bit better in the passing game and he deff if a better blocker. Tuck should only come in to give those guys a break. Gunna need white an Bucky both to win games. 1 back isn’t enough you really need 2 or 3 which the Bucs do

  16. Woodenman Says:

We won the game by a wide margin and all backs played good and still bitchin about Bucky not starting . We have a good rotation right now with our backs and they are all playing well what does it matter who starts would you rather Bucky starts and carries the ball 30 times a game see how that bum toe of his holds up. I mean what are you bitchin about our offense is not the problem.

  17. SlyPirate Says:

    70 yards, 80 yards …

Bucky is almost to a +100-yard rushing game. What a thought? If he keeps up his performance over the last two game, he’ll break 1000 on the year.

  18. BoricuaBucFan Says:

He already is the town hero. Do you not hear them chanting Bucky Bucky at all the games?!?!

  19. bob in valrico Says:

Bucky’ game last week reminded me of Barry Sanders. He was slowed most of the game but all of a sudden he broke a big play and helped put the game away.. That
said White is also in there because he is a unselfish player who makes a beeline
to an unblocked rusher to protect Baker. Reminds me of Clinton Portis who loved to execute a great block on blitzes.

  20. BigBucsFan Says:

The current formula is working and is a work in progress that is getting better with each added ingredients. And for all y’all trying to say that Bucky should be the clear number one and Rashad White reduced to third down and passing with Tucker closing and being change of pace, is archaic. Sure let’s do that , ike every other team has done in the past 30 -40 years and be as predictable as can be by putting our running backs in on such specific certain roles it’ll tip the defense right off the bat of what we’re doing. White has gotten better this year with the competition behind him sure he’s not the shaker and baker that Bucky is. But the beauty is if you put them both in there in a Duo back setup, it leaves the defense not knowing who’s going to get the hand off or who may get a check down pass or it might be a design route to streak down field. And that’s just the defense looking at our running backs and they have tight end and a receiver or two to worry about, with the threat of Mayfield taking off his own self. #tight w/White #let Bucky go #let Baker bake. #Evansmore. #Lets fricken go Tampa Bay¡!!¡!¡!¡!¡!!!
