Baker Mayfield Files Suit

This might trigger some to be a little more thankful on Thanksgiving.
So about 21 months ago, the subject of Baker Mayfield’s missing money came to light in a legal action. Apparently, his father is the majority owner of a company that inappropriately spent millions of Mayfield’s fortune. Allegedly.
Mayfield said the money funny business was old news and was not a distraction.
Well, an update came today from WFLA-TV in Tampa. In short, Mayfield’s lawyers sued his dad’s company for violating a settlement agreement that was reached in November. Per the report, Mayfield has not received a nickel or documents that were agreed to be turned over.
Attorneys for Baker Mayfield filed the suit in U.S. District Court on Nov. 22. The lawsuit alleges that the Camwood Capital Management Group and its subsidiaries failed to fulfill their end of a settlement agreement, which outlined a repayment plan for more than $12 million to Mayfield. His father, James W. Mayfield, owns Camwood, and his brother Matt has a stake in the company.
Baker Mayfield’s wife, Emily, and the couple’s company, Team BRM, LLC, are also listed as plaintiffs in the lawsuit.
What a sad mess.
What can Joe say? There’s no evidence this situation has distracted Mayfield, and he’s surely not hurting for cash. But it’s still eye-opening ugliniess.
Joe hopes a miracle resolution is forthcoming.

I feel terrible for Baker and Emily to have to go through something like this.
That said, they have had a lot of time to process this issue and have lived a lot of life learning how to cope with it. They’ve become first time parents since then.
Rather than a distraction, I would think it would drive Baker even more. It sure looks like he’s having fun on the field right now!

How horrible. The people should be able to trust the most. It wasn’t as if he wasn’t taking care of them.

How unfortunate that Baker and his wife have to deal with this, on top of it being his own father and brother. Most parents do everything possible for their children and would never think of mishandling money from them. It’s heartbreaking.
With all that going on, Baker is still uplifting with his attitude and fight on the field.

Parents pour into their kids at very young ages and invest a lot of time and effort in sports and training. There comes a time that the cord needs to be cut and this family held on too it for too long. I don’t know what happened to the money, entitlement, incompetency or down right thievery. It is sad but this has probably destroyed a once good family unit.
