“He’s 100 Percent”
November 25th, 2024So last week, Mike Evans’ playcaller said it wouldn’t be wise to throw him go routes, Evans’ head coach implied the Bucs had to be cautious with him and yesterday, the Bucs didn’t target Evans after the 3:54 mark of the third quarter.
What actually is the hamstring situation of the Bucs’ future Hall of Fame receiver?
Joe’s not sure.
On Friday, Evans did not say he’s 100 percent healthy. Instead he said, “I feel better than I did going into the Ravens game. That’s a good sign.”
Yes, Evans had a bad hamstring entering the Ravens game and returned yesterday after missing three games with a significant hamstring issue.
Before kickoff yesterday on the Bucs’ official radio network, Buccaneers Ring of Honor general manager Jason Licht said Evans is 100 percent.
Joe’s not calling Licht a liar, but something isn’t adding up.
If Evans was 100 percent, then why have him off the field so much late in the game? Joe is all for sitting starters in garbage time. Absolutely all for it. But that Bucs have a habit of not doing that, as evidenced again yesterday.
There was Baker Mayfield on the field in garbage time taking a needless shot to the head.
Nothing will kill Joe’s smile this morning, but the status Evans’ true health continues to gnaw at Joe’s gut. Without Evans healthy, the Bucs would have no shot at a Super Bowl.

Mayfield made it to this list at No. 10 after a dreadful 2019 season for the Browns, so it’s no surprise he’s ranked higher after Cleveland turned things around in a big way in 2020. Mayfield wasn’t quite one to light up the scoreboard on deep passes, but he was incredibly effective out of play-action. Thanks to the threatening presence of running backs Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt, Mayfield racked up 426 deep passing yards on play-action passes, tying for second-most in the league. His 12 deep completions off play-action were the third-most in the league, driving home what we all observed in 2020: The Browns are at their best when they use a run-first foundation and catch the defense napping when going to the air. Mayfield went from a CPOE of +3.9 percent and passer rating of 72.9 on deep passes in 2019 to a +11.2 CPOE and 112.7 rating in 2020. His arrow is very much pointing upward, and the Browns appear poised to continue the trend in 2021 with the expected return of a healthy Odell Beckham Jr.
We will see more long balls with the o line patched up and Mike back.

Yea – I don’t understand not sitting starters. If I’m not mistaken, Winfield was hurt earlier this year while on the onsides kick recovery team. He still doesn’t look right. Godwin should not have been in the Ravens game at the end when it was obviously out of reach. He’s done for the year. Evans did not look 100% yesterday. He looked like he pulled up after a couple of catches. Baker clearly got hurt yesterday when the game was sewn up. He went back on the field. Is Trask so awful he can’t hand the ball off? I don’t get it.

No way he is 100%!!! Also, why is Evans off the field on 3rd and goal??? Decoy him at least…that will pull 2 defenders EASY!

Even if he was 100%, sitting him when the game is out of reach was the right thing to do. They should have given Trask some snaps late in the game, too. But nooooooo, not Bowles. Even when this loser coaches one of his better games he manages to do (or fail to do) something that leaves you scratching your head.

Got to agree with Joe on this one. Go slow with Mike because we’re not winning this Super Bowl without him. I’m not a Doctor but Chris has an ankle, not a knee again. He gets back for the second round of the playoffs the whole team responds to that. Keeping my fingers crossed.

I like pulling Mike, and it could have been earlier. We should have learned a hard lesson with Godwin. Trask should have gone in the game to prevent injury to Baker and to get needed experience in case Baker goes down in a future game.

All you need is a set of eyeballs to know he’s not 100%. I respect Mike’s eagerness to help his team, and let’s be honest, his desire to keep his streak alive; but gutting it out with an ailing hammy is not going to help this team in the long run. I think they should have continued to rest him against the Giants. We need a full speed Evans down the stretch. This team can win games without him right now. The schedule is awfully kind down the stretch. Take advantage by building depth and resting key players with ailments.

It is odd that baker was still in the game but JOE ME13 has missed a lot of time and getting him back into game shape will be key that’s why I believe he wasn’t in there or targeted you know ease him back into it nice and easy also it might be a diff story if we were losing but again we should have taken baker out. I’m assuming baker didn’t want to come out the game

Mayfield insisted on staying in the game. ME13 could very well have played as long as he did to help out snapping the losing streak, and giving his team a chance at the postseason. He is a very highly respected future HOFamer, and team leader. He’ll be resting and helping his hammy. He’s been plagued with it most of his career. I doubt anyone at One Buc is pulling the Joes’ chain as in lying.

Shot at the superbowl? We beat the Giants Joe, not Atlanta for the divison. Right now the Bucs have zero shot at a superbowl even with Evans. Our defense won’t be playing Tommy DeVito every week. This team could not beat beat Philly, or the Lions again even if we did make the playoffs. Superbowl this season ain’t happening.

Fox News Alert!
Evans has had hamstring issues since day one of his pro career. This is nothing new, and he’s never been 100% since the first one. He just toughs it out. Not sure if it started in college. Joe might want to look it up.
