BSPN: Bucs Will Catch Dixie Chicks? “Overreaction”

November 25th, 2024

Still in it.

If the Bucs could play the tanking Giants and their third-string quarterback every week, this might be different.

However, the Bucs have to win games on a pace that this franchise has rarely seen before in order to overtake the Dixie Chicks to win the division, or perhaps win enough games to secure a playoff berth.

Over at BSPN, Dan Graziano believes, while it’s possible the Bucs could catch the sinking Dixie Chicks, the Bucs would have to make up a two-game deficit in six games. Hard to do without help from Atlanta itself.

I’m certainly not suggesting the Falcons are invincible, or that a one-game deficit is too much for Baker Mayfield & Co. to overcome. Full respect to the Bucs, their fight and their three-season division title streak.

But the problem with coming from behind is very specific: Tampa Bay doesn’t play Atlanta again, so it can’t make up ground by beating the Falcons head-to-head. Plus, the Falcons won both of the games they played against the Buccaneers earlier this season and own the tiebreaker, which means simply tying Atlanta wouldn’t be enough to give Tampa Bay the division. The Falcons should come back from their bye rested and able to win three of their final five games, which would mean the Bucs would have to go 5-0 the rest of the way to pull this off.

While in the standings the Bucs are only one game behind, as Graziano pointed out, Atlanta has the tiebreaker because the Bucs lost both games to the Dixie Chicks. So the Bucs, to win the division, have to be at least a game ahead of Atlanta.

Could the Bucs do it? Sure. But the NFL is a minefield and “this Joe” just doesn’t trust this Bucs defense to pull this off.

Did anyone watch the Stinking Panthers push the mighty Chiefs to the brink yesterday? That doesn’t look like the same terrible Stinking Panthers team they were a month ago.

All of a sudden, Carolina looks like a handful. And gee whiz, guess who the Bucs play next? Yup, Carolina on the road.

However, yesterday was a good start in the desperate march for the final seven-game stretch

We played ATL twice already and now that Carolina is finding its foot, we play them twice. Go get a win this week and let them falconize… Carolina play them once yet…
Hey, Joe, does anyone talked to Azeez Olujari telling him the beauties of Tampa?
    Go Bucs!

  2. Tony Says:

Maybe the Giants started the wrong Devito. Maybe they should’ve started Danny Devito instead. He might of played better.😁

  3. ATLBUC Says:

Carolina is not an easy out.

  4. MadMax Says:

We won a game we were supposed to win….we’re still not out of the woods.

  5. Bucfish Says:

Somebody should tell Graziano that teams play 17 games per season. He said the Bucs have to go 5-0 the rest of the way and the Falcons should be able to win 3 of their final 5 games. We both have 6 games left.

Perfect pic to fit the red tufts of hair on the temples, the red nose and makeup.

And precisely the reason why no sane football fan expects the Bucs to win more than they lose. Loser is as loser does, Jenny.

Canalwater makes Bryce Young look like Mahomes against his old stooge, this one is embarrassing. Bucs lose by 3 scores.

  8. Joe in Michigan Says:

Wins in the NFL are hard if you have a bad coach. Todd Bowles is a bad coach. Look at Kirk Cousins stats against the Bucs vs. the rest of the league, because the other coaches have a clue.

  9. Jack Burton Mercer Says:

If Atlanta beats SD next Sunday then they likely win the division. Look at their remaining schedule since it is similar to ours.
