Baker Mayfield Was On Fire

November 24th, 2024

Eccellente!

How could anyone not suggest Baker Mayfield is one of the better quarterbacks in the league the way he played today?

Mayfield was Midas today. Everything he touched turned to gold.

Need a first down? Mayfield threw and ran for them.

Need a touchdown? Mayfield threw and ran for them.

Need blocking? Mayfield was 50 yards downfield blocking for Bucky Irving!

Need vaudeville? After Mayfield ran for a 10-yeard touchdown in the second quarter, Mayfield jumped up and answered the jeering Jersey residents with his own version of the Tommy Cutlets’ eccellente sign, which enraged the ziti-eating Giants crowd.

Indirectly, Mayfield almost sparked a melee along the sidelines when he was shoved out of bounds late (no flag) and Bucs offensive linemen raced in to raise Cain and protect their quarterback.

Remember how folks laughed and mocked and snickered like Mutley at the Bucs for signing Mayfield? The Kyle Trask cultists were knee-sLapping laughing.

Well, who is laughing now (besides AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht and coach Todd Bowles)? Surely not the folks that have to defend against Mayfield.

Mayfield was dominant today. A true franchise quarterback.

Baker just needed the right situation to shine…Cleveland has always been a dumpster fire and lately Carolina has been one. Had a better situation at his next stop though short lived and no a pro-bowl caliber QB. Trask cultists go crawl back under your rocks.

  2. DirtyBucs Says:

I have no problem with Baker being out QB for the next 6-8 years or so. He’s good enough to win a Superbowl. Defense and healthy receivers are needed.

  4. Rod Munch Says:

Baker stinks throwing the ball down the field.

Solution = Don’t have him throw the ball down the field.

Most coaches are idiots that just demand players run their scheme regardless of what the player does well. Coen is not one of those idiots, and gets all sorts of credit for calling plays that actually emphasizes Baker’s strengths and hides his weaknesses.

  5. Trask To The Future Says:

LOL get back to use when he starts struggling to throw for 150 yards in games.

Dude has 20th QBR in NFL.

  6. Steven007 Says:

Trask, so you’re purposefully just passing over the games where he plays well in your lust to comment on the games where he performs poorly? That’s idiotic.

  7. UKBuccaneer Says:

Anyone who uses QBR as a metric doesnā€™t know ball.

  8. firethecannons Says:

    Baker is the ultimate Buc

  9. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

When he can play well against good defenses then he’ll be an upper tier qb. He is definitely a baller and he loves this team and has a lot of heart. He is definitely a good qb.

  10. Trask To The Future Says:

    Steven,

No Iā€™ve given him credit for good games in the past but dude is Foolā€™s Gold. Heā€™s had so many games where he barely throws for any yards the entire game until garbage time. Heā€™s inconsistent. As Rod points out above, he canā€™t throw the ball downfield. He has accuracy issues.

Yes heā€™s scrappy and tough and has a lot of confidence. He has a fun personality. But the reality is heā€™s not a solid NFL QB. Heā€™s just not.

  11. heyjude Says:

We are so lucky when we got Baker. I love watching him play. His stamina shocks me every single time. He never quits! I was worried about his stinger and thought he should take a rest. But we all know Baker, he doesn’t quit. We have our franchise QB.

  12. Herbiebuc Says:

Baker mayfield can be our drew Brees ! To this point they stats match up

  13. Rod Munch Says:

Trask To The Future – I have not been a Baker fan in the past, because he didn’t deserve it because he was extremely middling, but in this offense, he’s a perfect fit. Keep it short (not a height joke), let Baker use his mobility in the pocket, and he’s good at keeping plays alive and making short throws. This offense is very creative, really does a Grade A job of taking full advantage of Baker.

Now, if we went back to a more traditional offense, or a deep ball offense, no thanks – I would never want to see Baker run that again. But simple solution – just don’t do that.

And the retards show up, making stupid comments meant to run off anyone who isn’t insane.

I swear no one does more harm to Baker’s likeability than the Baker Boi(s).

  15. Danfan Says:

TTTF, are you for real saying Baker isn’t even a solid NFL QB? I’d agree if you said he isn’t a great QB, but not even solid?? He’s now played 30 games with TB and thrown 52 TDs – 19 Ints. Those are pretty damn good numbers, not just average. Every QB, even Mahomes, Lamar, Allen, has bad games here and there.

  16. ReeeBarrr Says:

Baker is a beast, fun to watch. What a leader

  17. Steven007 Says:

Trask, I appreciate the reply. My point is, today is one of those good days. We’re decent. At least. He’s had better this season. And last season. So celebrate these days instead of pining for the middling days.

  18. BucsfanBrennan Says:

2,799 yards, 24 TDs, 9 int and a 70% completion percentage with the one of the hardest opening schedules this season. That’s a great QB people

  19. orlbucfan Says:

I want my team to win, period. I’ve been a devoted fan since 1979. Bucs won after a Bye week. Plus. I listened to the 4th quarter. Coen is a first year OC. It shows. How come Mayfield was too paranoid to sit when the game was in the bag? He had just got a stinger. He just got a yuge contract in the off-season so Trask is no threat. If anyone calls me for BM hate, you are illiterate.

  20. unbelievable Says:

Heā€™s a top-5 / top-10 QB in the NFL this year, regardless of the offensive system.

Anyone claiming otherwise is just an idiot.

And he was leading the league in touchdowns until we lost Evans and Godwin, and was also top-10 in yards, QB rating, and completion %. Heā€™s the least of our problems.

  21. unbelievable Says:

ā€œHeā€™s had so many games where he barely throws for any yards the entire game until garbage time.ā€

4 of the Bucs 6 losses this season were by 6 points or less. But tell us more about all this garbage time you speak ofā€¦ just another clueless dolt.

  22. ModHairKen Says:

Traskies, where are you? Bowles haters? Baker haters?

    Yeah. I hear you. ā€œItā€™s the Giants.ā€ Right. And itā€™s a win.

  23. Dewey Selmon Says:

Why can’t we put him in the MVP conversation?

  24. MadMax Says:

    As always

  25. ATLBUC Says:

Trask is living rent free in your head! It has not been proven that some Bucs fans were wrong about Trask. I know I was wrong about Baker!!!

  26. Kidfloflo Says:

This guy runs almost 50 yds just to throw a block, in a blowout!! STUD…gives up his body for key first downs and will never say die attitude is infectious throughout locker room. With the salaries of so-so qbs like Dak, Lawrence, Danny dimes etc etc his 100 million salary is the steal of the NFL!! And took us to two games away from the super bowl in his FIRST year here and was MVP of the probowl! Yet…yet…some “Buc fans” on this site and walking amongst us think Trask is the better QB and Baker is a bum! Incredulous, and at this point laughable…#thatsmyquarterback

  27. Yusef Says:

2 years ago, many people on here scolded me, for even suggesting Baker would be a great fit here, and here we are, always have and always will be a Baker fan. Dude has been so underestimated in this league…

If the Bucs win out, which is not impossible, he’d at least be in the discussion.

But Darnold or Goff would likely get the award if they don’t give it to Mahomes or Lamar again.

    ——-

Well 2 years ago he wasn’t a great fit.

Last year Baker was not that good, thus the reason he got a low end starting QB deal. There was no bidding war because everyone saw the same thing I saw on tape, a middling aging QB who can’t throw deep with any sort of accuracy.

This year, however, Baker has been great – this offense just perfectly fits his skill set. That’s not a knock in the least. Why more NFL coaches refuse to do this, I will never understand.

  30. Tbbucs3 Says:

ā€œ Baker stinks throwing the ball down the fieldā€

Rod, your takes get dumber by the minute

Yeah the QB who is nearly top 5 in every category ā€œsucksā€

Baker Mayfield has absolutely embarrassed you and proved you wrong ever since he put on a Bucs jersey. Yet your still doubling down on how wrong youve been. Lmao!

You just need to take the L and move on cause you sound like a buffoon at this point

  31. Greg Says:

Baker is on fire for sure! Also, Mr Bowles.. PULL THE STARTERS when itā€™s a blowout. When Bakers head got pushed back.. I thought ā€œHere we go againā€ā€¦. luckily he seems to be ok. Didnā€™t you learn your lesson from Godwin? No reason to keep them in particularly this time of year when we are trying to squeak into the playoffs. Dumb.

  32. Bucben1961 Says:

Rod take your medication your Baker derangement syndrome is flaring up

  33. Tbbucs3 Says:

    ā€œTraskies, where are you?ā€

The Traskies are busy popping champagne bottles for their college team getting eligibility to a papajohns.com bowl

  34. DJB Says:

Why in the world was Baker still in the game until the very end? He had already put the Bucs comfortably ahead at that point. I was yelling for Bowles to pull him. Even after a trip to the blue tent, Bowles trotted him back out there. Gotta pull him, even if he did not want to sit. Dean was in too on the last defensive series, that was not smart either. The Bucs did seem to manage Evan’s playing time pretty well.

  35. BucaneroJim Says:

Stupid to keep Bake in the last of the fourth. Giants had no way time wise to come back. All smelling salts and synth nicotine ego by Bake and supported by coaches.

  36. Shake&Baker Says:

100% TbBucs, Rod is just one of the Trask morons in disguise. He has an extremely strong arm and can play both small ball donk and dunk and thread the needle with mid and long range passes. He really does sound like an idiot trying to still ridicule what is quickly becoming an all time favorite Buc with his passion and play making ability.

  37. Gipper Says:

Usual crowd with their “yeah, but……………” Truth is Mayfield is very accurate and throws one of the best deep balls in NFL. Saw him do it in Cleveland and Oklahoma where he hit CeeDee Lamb deep often. It’s the usual girls on these pages who say this stuff. When Baker arrived in Tampa the girls here didn’t think he belonged on the team—journeyman, middling, washout and so it went. When ME fully healed and with a weekly improving O line, the doubters will get another lesson. Told you at beginning of season Baker was top 6 QB. Heard howls of derision and protest. Go on line and pull up Baker 2024 TD passes this year and you will see deep ball with great accuracy.

  38. Bamboo Says:

I love the naysayers and arm chair geniuses. The guy is a Football Player and puts his nuts on the line every week and not only that we got him cheap. People like Munch, etc don’t deserve this guy.

  42. Roscoe Says:

On an Ira podcast about a year ago Joe mentioned how Baker was being compared to Drew Brees by some on this site. Ira’s response was ” I’m not ready to go there yet.” Are you ready now Ira ?

  43. Saskbucs Says:

Trask lover and othersā€¦ pretty sure Baker hit on 4 or 5 passes over 20 yards today. Evans 24 yards – Otton had a long one or 2. Yes, we were playing the Giants but Wirfs out and we donā€™t play much better than the Giants these next 2 few weeks.

The only way Ira would be comparing Baker to a 1st ballot HOFer is if he’s got dementia.

Baker’s been playing great this season. If he does it for a decade straight, then you can start talking about HOF. Not half of one season.

  45. Rod Munch Says:

Bucben1961 – I’m literally saying I think Baker has been playing great, how this offense is perfectly tailored to his skills, and yet you Baker Boi morons are still mad because I’m not saying he’s a 1st ballot HOFer? LOL!

This is why the Baker Boi(s) are so hated by everyone with an IQ over 12.

  46. Roscoe Says:

How many agree that Rod is an embarrassment ?

  47. Roscoe Says:

Rod hates “Baker Bois”. Therefore it is a safe assumption that his IQ is about 13. You set your own standard Rod.

By your own admission Rod, you are sporting an IQ in the low 2 digits.

  49. Stan says Says:

Not many, Rod is usually spot on with his takes. Like him or not. I enjoy is banter with the crew of keyboard crazies. Keepem coming Rod.

  50. Herbiebuc Says:

@Rod Munch I said till this point 7 seasons drew Breeā€™s had a passer rating of 87.9 134 td 83 interceptions baker mayfield has a passer rating of 90.0 154 tds and 82 inceptions and he hasnā€™t finished his 7 th season yet.

  51. Trask To The Future Says:

LOL @ all the Baker Homers ready to induct him into the HOF.

Reality Check: It was against the Giants, one of the worst teams in the NFL.

Baker had a great game, good for him. But the Giants are terrible. Funny how fans are so quick to forget his abysmal run of losses and lack of production until garbage time in so many games this season.

  52. Kenton Smith Says:

This Okie loves this team. Yes I didnā€™t become a fan until Mayfield signed here. But I believe Iā€™ll be a Bucs fan for life. Wouldnā€™t be as fun, this group, without Rod Munch. Hopefully this piā€™sā€¦ you off real good Rod but to compare Mayfield to Brees is a disservice to Mayfield. Heā€™s 29 years old until April and by the time heā€™s finished he should heartily surpass all of Brees stats. If he wins more than 1 Super Bowl ( Brees won 1) in 20 years then heā€™ll be remembered as a far better player than Drew Brees ever was. Hear that Rod? Yeah I hope youā€™re piā€™sā€¦ off.

  53. Gipper Says:

    Herbiebuc,

I got your point and have looked at the same stats. Nobody knew Brees was heading to the HOF after his 7th year. In fact, he was traded by San Diego after his 5 year. Had a great career with NO including Super Bowl victory. Comparison Baker to Brees is very appropriate with the qualification that Baker has a better arm. Baker will get his team to multiple Super Bowls. With better defense this year, Bucs would be in conversation this year. Confident that Licht is going to get better defenders next year. Saying the obvious doesnā€™t make any of us ā€œBaker Bois.ā€ You have to consider that the Baker critical clique sound more like a bunch of teenage girls criticizing the new kid in class. Got it Munch?

  54. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

Show me one coach who would take Mayfield over Brees. All dead great head coaches would raise up and whoop his butt. I have never seen so many guys who idolize one player the way you people do Mayfield. It boggles the mind. You come out of the wood work like roaches it’s so ridiculous. You fanboys with your female tendencies are irritating like the hiccups

  55. Roscoe Says:

The “Baker Bois” hate the “Traskites” and the “Traskites” hate the “Baker Bois”.
Why don’t you two hate filled groups get it together and stop with the hate.
Baker and Kyle are on the same team, the Bucs. Do the “Traskites” want Baker to get hurt ? Let’s hope he doesn’t but I’m sure Coen would find a way for Kyle to succeed. Then what ? A QB controversy ?

Like Mr. T says, “I pity the fool” that only has hate, negativity, and resentment in his or her heart.

This is akin to the Hatfield/McCoy feud. Pointless

  56. Roscoe Says:

Provocateurs are a cancer on society.

  57. Kenton Smith Says:

Pretty sure I have never said one bad word about Kyle Trask. On the contrary I like him and can see that the team respects him and the coaches must trust him. Roscoe help me out here and show me where all this ā€œhate, negativity, and resentmentā€ is coming from. Could you do that for me?

  58. Gipper Says:

    KentonSmith,

You and Roscoe haven’t been around this site long enough to know how some of these “analysts” just beat the hell out of Mayfield from the day he arrived in Tampa. For those of us who pushed back we got the same treatment. Consider the treatment that pinch hit OT Skule has gotten from the leader of the Hate Mayfield Brigade. The withering criticism of Skule is minor compared to what we got about Mayfield from the same crew. Skule is fine as his PFF grade proves. He isn’t going to the ProBowl but he is an adequate back up. These guys now fall back to “Mayfield can’t throw it deep” when anyone who knows just a little about the NFL knows that the deep pass for most teams is obsolete so long as the defensive fad of two high safeties stays in vogue. Most teams are using screens and tight ends underneath to try and force safeties up. It’s called taking what the defense gives you. I can’t believe the absolute assurance with which these guys say the things they do. Just have to laugh it off attributable to people who never fully developed.

  59. Roscoe Says:

Here’s 2 examples from just this thread.

Let me be clear. I like Kyle Trask. Baker Mayfield has proven to be a top QB in this league as stated by the “Joes”.

This all started when Trask wasn’t anointed as the starting QB after Brady. A certain commenter on this site suggested when the Bucs hired Baker that the team had found, possibly, their version of Drew Brees and proceeded to lay out the comparisons to back up that assertion. Gipper, Herbiebuc and yourself have in this thread layed out the stats that back up the assertion.

To confess, Roscoe is actually Citrus County. I made the referenced assertion before the first Baker training camp and I stand by it. The NFL has driven me away. I only follow the Bucs by way of this site. I’ve been rooting for Baker since day one and feel that he is the best QB this team has ever had (TB12 excluded of course). I was also rooting (before Baker) for the underdog Kyle Trask. I followed him at UF.

When Joe said the following in the above article I swelled with pride for Baker:

Well, who is laughing now (besides AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht and coach Todd Bowles)? Surely not the folks that have to defend against Mayfield.

Mayfield was dominant today. A true franchise quarterback.
