Kirk Cousins Is Injured

November 14th, 2024

Busted up.

Yes, a healthy (unhealthy?) share of Bucs fans are thinking playoffs thanks to the Bucs’ very soft remaining schedule and the Falcons’ implosion against the slimy Saints on Sunday.

And now there’s a new wrinkle.

Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins, who is below average this season when not facing the Bucs, is injured. He came out of that Saints game with injuries to his throwing shoulder and elbow. That’s never a good thing for a 36-year-old quarterback.

It’s unclear if Cousins can play Sunday in Denver — or how well he can play. The Falcons’ backup is rookie first-round pick Michael Penix.

Joe realizes lots of fans might argue that Penix is as good or better than Cousins, but that’s a major wild card. The guy hasn’t played, and don’t tell Joe “he looked good in preseason.”

The Bucs’ chances at a division title are slim, given they are two games behind Atlanta and the Falcons hold the tiebreaker edge. However, the Bucs’ have a much easier schedule than the Falcons, whose next three games are at Denver, home for the Chargers and at Minnesota.

Joe has a feeling things will get very interesting in December if the Bucs can manage to play close to average defense.

    Doesn’t matter we don’t have a defense

  2. bucnjim Says:

Crazy the amount of players that get hurt against the Saints isn’t it?

  3. Pmike Says:

Does matter because a defensive metric isn’t how playoff teams are determine.

    It’s the win loss record….

Now will the defense stack up? That is yet to be determined

  4. Ds Says:

Pmike are you sick ? Show me 1 team with the 31st ranked defense that has went anywhere

  5. M1K3_Fanclub Says:

Playoffs are not in the cards for us this year.

  6. Ds Says:

Just isn’t our year and that’s fine it’s difficult to make the playoffs year in and year out

  7. Jeff Says:

Clueless Todd and his defensive staff is Dungy Stubborn and Schiano Stupid

  8. Mike Johnson Says:

Don’t matter. Atlanta owns us. They walloped us twice already this season. Face The Music.

  9. Bobby Says:

Yes ATL is down a starter. Did you forget Bucs are going to be without Wirfs for probably most of remainder of this season. That’s going to be so devastating to this offense over the next multiple weeks. Justin Skule had a decent game. But you can’t expect him to be able to do that every week. At that to the other injuries. It feels like this season is over. I hope I’m wrong. Go Bucs!!! BB may here in January 2025.

  10. Weebs10 Says:

New Orleans beat us twice our 2020 Super Bowl year but we got the last laugh in the playoffs. I hope we get a wild card and get matched up against ATL and knock them out before we get whooped by whoever we face in the second round.

  11. BuckyBuc Says:

nothing matters, the defense just rolls over. Getting no where with that.

  12. heyjude Says:

Wow, that is some news. Not to wish any injuries on anyone, but this does throw a curve ball. I guess we will see what Penix does now and get ready for the what ifs. Go Bucs!

bucnjim Says: “Crazy the amount of players that get hurt against the Saints isn’t it?” It sure is. Something to that…

  13. Let em bake Says:

Tykee and dean returning soon. Wirfs week to week ala via. The defense will improve.

  14. BallHawk75 Says:

Faker isn’t a capable QB in high pressure moments.

The defense makes sub par QBs look fabulous.

The HC is afraid to win a game outside of his philosophy.

Turns out the scoreboard and record do actually matter.

    No lipstick on this pig!

  15. Defense Rules Says:

Atlanta has struggled WITH Kirk Cousins, except for their 2 victories against us. If we’d won both of those games, we wouldn’t even be having this conversation right now.

But we didn’t. We scored enough points to win IMO (30 & 26), but we also gave the ball away 4 times & only took it away once. That MINUS 3 Turnover Differential didn’t help our defense much, but regardless, in the process we did manage to give up 8 TDs & 4 FGs, 944 yards of offense, 48 first downs, and let them convert 15-of-28 third downs & 3-of-5 fourth downs. Can’t win many games like that.

That said however, I fully expect our defense to be considerably better after the BYE. Far too many guys really hurting, and the defense especially seems to be playing in slow motion. That’s not Bucs’ football; we rely on speed because we don’t have a bunch of Hulks who are just gonna overpower you. I’m personally hoping to get Jamel Dean back after the BYE, and for Winfield & Whitehead to start playing much better. Gaines & Vea should be healed up, and our OLBs have gotten some excellent experience in the 1st half of the season. And oh ya, hopefully the level of opposing offenses isn’t as daunting as what we faced in the 1st half.

Not saying that we’re gonna run the table, but winning 5 of 7 would give us a winning record, and MIGHT get us into the playoffs. Stranger things have happened (like last year and the year before?). Will admit though that I’m seeing far too many Negative Nellies on Joe Buc Fan nowadays. That’s becoming a real bummer.

“Joe has a feeling things will get very interesting in December if the Bucs can manage to play close to average defense”.

Not to condescending but what makes you think that this defense can play anywhere near average, im really curious because from where i sit their collapse has been near historic.

  17. Mhystc Says:

Doesn’t matter who’s injured or starting for another team. Infact we do worse against back ups.. we make them look like stars it’s embarrassing. This defense is terrible.

  18. BucU Says:

Are you people delusional? This team has thrown in the towel. Bowles has been tuned out. And that’s why he needs to go immediately after this nightmare of a season ends. Can’t come soon enough.

  19. HomerSimpsonRocks Says:

Let’s just lose out with Bowles and get some nice draft picks, fire Todd, hire Liam
As HC and roll next year.

  20. Allbuccedup Says:

Same ole story 8 or 9 wins gets the division. Chargers I believe are the only descent team on the schedule.

  21. D Cone Says:

468 Total yards w/ 181 Rushing and 6.4 per Play is far from an Implosion. Kicker had a bad day.

Now 215 Yards Total Offense 3.7 per Play is more of a meltdown and what was served up by the Bucs.

Penix didn’t play enough in preseason for anyone to judge but spent last season serving up passes to receivers drafted 9th, 37th, and 92nd in 2024 and are all playing meaningful minutes. An Outs an Out, a Digs an Dig, and a Post is a Post.

Falcons are a tick behind Bucs in rushing and sit at Ninth. Over the last 3 games Falcons passed 51% of the time. Lean on the Run and use a passing game an Idiot can succeed in by keeping throws 10 yards or less. Penix will do just fine.

  22. FBC Says:

As usual – Bowles needs a fully healthy roster, a weak/injured division, and bad opponents to have a chance at breaking .500.

Begging the football gods to stop doing him favors so we can break this cycle and move on.

  23. Pewter Power Says:

Damn who out there is trying to torture us by trying to save Bowles job again.

  24. garbs65 Says:

I’ll give the Bucs credit for playing as hard as they have the past 2 games. And just a break or two during any of the other losses and we would be looking at 6-4 easily. But, teams have had too much success on this defense. And speaking of Mike Evans…I think I would rather he sit longer and heal rather than push it and he gets hurt worse…and basically unavailable the remainder of the year. If the Bucs can win one or two in a row without him, we are that much better if they get lucky enough to make a playoff push.

  25. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Doesn’t help us a bit.

Sorry but I don’t have a quitting mentality like a lot of posters on here.

Playoffs are determined by win loss records.

Is there a high probability of this team squeaking in? Nope

But you’re telling me there is a chance…. YUP

Anything can happen in the playoffs (even with a poorly ranked defense mid season)

  27. Dave Pear Says:

They could bring back Steve Bartkowski in a wheelchair and beat Lovie’s team. Too late to matter. A 4–3 record doesn’t make the playoffs even after 8 plane crashes

  28. Dave Pear Says:

    *4-13

  29. Crickett Baker Says:

We have 2 (or maybe 3) players who played in college when Penix was the QB. Too bad we don’t play Atlanta again.

  30. BucU Says:

What an absolute waste of a promising season. This team needs new coaching desperately. And a MASH hospital tent available at all times.

  31. Mike C Says:

Mike Johnson clearly doesn’t comprehend the word “walloped” might want to look that one up.

  32. Cobraboy Says:

The Buc’s odds of getting into the playoffs by December are about the same as me becoming handsome, hung, and rich by December.

  33. Permanently Moderated Says:

I appreciate any optimism provided, but, realistically, it’s pie in the sky dreaming to think the Bucs can overcome the multitude of injuries and Todd’s lack of coaching ability. He is what his record says he is.

  34. John Says:

i like we got mike edwards back. dude was always money for us. ball always seemed to find him.

  35. drdneastup Says:

Mike Johnson, saying the Falcoms “whalloped” the Bucs in both games is a gross exaggeration. Do you miss Atlanta.

  36. Bucswin? Says:

Yay a first round playoff blowout loss backing into the playoffs if Atlanta implodes. But then we have to get past the Panthers. Imagine if they win the division.

  37. adam from ny Says:

we could have rally gained some valuable ground last weekend, if we just won the damn game…

these birds are gonna go into denver and lose another one…denver is good

  38. adam from ny Says:

    really*
