Freeman Better Than Stafford, Sanchize?
September 20th, 2010Yesterday Bucs starting quarterback Josh Freeman looked every bit the black Ben Roethlisberger in the first half, defenders unable to bring him down, Freeman using his feet to buy time and nail targets downfield.
Why, even Peter King, of Sports Illustrated, was moved to set his mug of coffee down, push aside his bowl of oatmeal and pass up a handful of popcorn to Twitter how Freeman looked like a playoff veteran quarterback.
King’s cohort at Sports Illustrated, former Bucs beat writer and current NFL columnist Don Banks, wondered aloud if it is actually the Bucs that got the best quarterback in the draft a year ago.
Here’s a surprising thought: Is it possible that Josh Freeman, Tampa Bay’s 2009 first-round pick, is already further along in his development than either one of the higher-drafted first-round ’09 quarterbacks, Matthew Stafford and Mark Sanchez? I know this: Freeman is the only one to open his second season with a 2-0 record. Freeman totaled 225 yards (43 rushing) and threw a pair of TDs in the Bucs’ win at Carolina.
Joe will say this: Stafford appears to be damned good but thus far in his career the poor guy can’t stay healthy. Part of that is the sieve that is the Lions’ offensive line.
Sanchize looks to be the right-handed version of Matt Leinhart.

Freeman is awesome, thats for sure. But remember Sanchize just threw 3 TD passes to lead the Jets over the Pats and Tom Brady.

Our guy is definetly the best. What he did in that game, I was even impressed with when he would throw it away. Its easy to see the difference in maturity and experience this year with Josh. When its all said and done, Freeman will be better than those 2. For that, you have to credit Rah and Dom, everyone was against this pick and they mortgaged their legacies on it.

Did Joe watch the JETS comeback against the Pats yesterday? In the little that I’ve watched Sanchize I think he looks more like Farve than Leinhart.
As for Freeman – he has certainly surprised me! The difference between last year and this year is exponential. In fact I picked up Josh Freeman as my secondary QB in 4 of my 6 Fantasy Football leagues – based on the potential I’m watching.
Joe i really think it’s time to delete those Josh BIW (Bust in Waiting) Freeman comments 🙂

He is better. He proved it statistically last year and he’s proving it more so this year.
It would also be nice if Joe quits comparing him to Ben Rapistburger. I know you mean it in a size comparison, but nothing else holds water. Freeman is his own man and he should be referred to as such.

I agree that Freeman is NOT a bust. He is really maturing as the leader of our offense. It is fun to have a good QB that our team trusts and will rally around. It is also cool that we have a chance to win when we trail a team in the 4th qtr.

Jaytek- exactly!! Having a franchise talent QB means you always have a good chance of winning! That’s the excitement we haven’t seen on our team in years! Yesterday was a glimpse of how much fun watching this team will be soon! Our defense dominated their offense( we have seen that before, happy to see it again!), and our offense dominated their defense! ( that’s NEVER happened here!!) our future looks bright!

I think Freeman might be the best quarterback this franchise has had. I think Raheem may have had some inside information on that pick. I believe he may have come out of college a year too early, but we are very lucky to have him. Stafford was clearly the better QB in college but Josh should mature into a truly great one.

What a stupid headline…..
he has promise……great promise….greatness promise…
but he has only 12 +- NFL starts…
He WILL have his game day uglies too….

@RastaMon how is that a stupid headline. So far it looks like he may be the best of the three. All QBs have bad games but he looks like he’ll have more good than bad. I’m excited and thats what football is for excitement.
I feel beter now than I did 2 weeks ago. I know we will not go 16-0 but we have a chance of a winning season and a brighter future.

It is not a stupid headline and the comparison will go on for years just like the “class of 1982” with Aikmen, Elway and Jim Kelly.
Long way to go to see where they end up. I like to wait three years plus to see how a player evolves in the NFL. Some are awesome, some are good and some become busts.
But when you have a “franchise” QB, your are never out of the game. And that is something we have not had many times here in Tampa. I like his progress this year, his command of the offense and team. This is going to be a fun year to be a Bucs fan. I’m certainly enjoying it.

Terrible Tom Brady had a bad game yesterday didn’t you see him crying on the sideline. They show him every where in the world in every language. He is the measuring stick of success right A convicted cheater being lead by a false profit in Bill they trust yeah watch your wallet wife and young daughters when ever he’s in town

Spirit, I think you meant Marino, not Aikman. Aikman didn’t enter the league until the early 90’s. And it was actually the class of ’83, not ’82. The two other first round QB’s taken in that draft were Todd Blackledge picked 7th overall (ahead of Kelly and Marino) and Tony Eason picked 15th (ahead of Marino).
