Liam Coen Says Baker Mayfield Should Play Sunday
November 8th, 2024Ordinarily, when a top-shelf NFL quarterback having a career year misses two straight days of practice, that sets off fire alarms, tornado warnings and emergency alert systems causing cell phones to buzz Amber Alert-like warnings across a region at 5 a.m.
So far, no one is panicking at One Buc Palace.
Baker Mayfield apparently has a bum toe. He didn’t practice Wednesday yesterday, though those were walk-through sessions and not real practices.
On Wednesday, Mayfield said he was a little banged up but seemed confident he would play Sunday against the 49ers. Yesterday, Bucs offensive coordinator Liam Coen said he believed Mayfield would play.
“He just took a bunch more [walk-through] reps today, actually,” Coen said.
Despite the injury report Wednesday saying he didn’t practice, Coen said Mayfield got some throws in.
“He’ll be fine,” Coen said. “He’s moving around a lot better today than he was over the last few days. I’ve been kind of [saying] quick, little [jabs], ‘Hey man, you ain’t going to be able to run this week? You feeling a little slow this week? You alright?’ Just to see if I can get him going.”
Not only are Mayfield’s spirits up, Coen said, he also is clapping back at Coen with his own smack.
So Joe is expecting Mayfield behind center when the Bucs offense takes the field to face the 49ers.

Sorry Trask fans.

Trask is being groomed to help out on defense. He is now qualified to watch receivers run by him wide open. Things the primary attribute for starting in LovieII’s defense. He will see the field on defense Sunday.

Gonna need all the escapability he can muster against the niners. Hope the toe is not a problem.

Traskies still have hope!

I know Mayfield is tough and even if his toe was broken he would probably play because he’s a throw back quarterback and he is still getting better every year. Baker IMO hasn’t reached his ceiling yet and I’m extremely happy he’s our quarterback but if something actually did happen and he couldn’t play I think Trask would do just fine, if he gets an opportunity to go to another team to play I think he would do a good job. The kid needs a chance with another team.

I really expected to see the defense improve when Winfield and Kancy returned?. Can anybody tell me what has happened to Winfield?. Is he still banged up. It seems our safties are never anywhere around the ball. I know their is the belief that the team can reel off a bunch of wins after a week off. However, does anyone want to see this defense in the playoffs?. I can’t imagine this defense in the playoffs, I just can’t. I mean I am a big fan , but face it this defense is just plain hard to watch. However yes agree overall the KC game was much better than it was, but that soft middle is still there and very enjoyable for other teams.

Baker has that grit. Loving his moxie smack. Sounds like Coen does too. So glad he is our QB. Browns loss, our win.

Regarding Winfield, it’s simple. He is being coached to play the way he is playing. “Nothing over your head. Everything in front of you. “
Lovie2 forces regression on his good players. Has done since he got here. LVD, Suh and JPP were already established and helped Shaq light up. They ignored Lovie2 and did what was necessary. Those days are long over. Anyone with any upside potential will rot under the Lovester.

Who ever plays quarterback I’m behind them 💯 percent!! Baker Mayfield played good last week. I wish the coaches would have called those plays early in the game. But at the same time I’ve seen a offense with over 70 plays and not one holding call!! That’s real strange to me lol 🤣 but it’s always go bucs for me!!!
