“Gotta Have Grown Men In The Locker Room”

November 6th, 2024

Speaks out.

After Monday’s gut-punch loss to the Chiefs, the Bucs are forced to regroup on the fly to face the physical but nothing-special 49ers in Tampa on Sunday.

The Bucs (4-5) also are having a nothing-special season and need to fix that in a hurry as San Francisco (4-4) hopes to recharge Sunday following their bye week.

Baker Mayfield talked about what will be required next on the Buccaneers Radio Network. The Bucs’ Pro Bowl QB paused before giving his take on the challenge ahead.

“Gotta have grown men in this locker room, which I think we do,” Mayfield said.

“And get healthy. Be mentally dialed in on a short week, and find a way to win. It’s an NFC opponent and [we] get a chance to get back to .500 before the bye. And that’s what matters. So we can get healthy and come back full swing.”

Joe agrees wholeheartedly. The Bucs have to “grown men” up and find a way to win at home.

Yes, the Bucs can run their post-bye table at 5-2 or 6-1 courtesy of their stout offense facing a mess of bad teams. But losing Sunday would put the Bucs at 4-6 with so little margin for error down the stretch.

For those wondering, 10 wins has been good enough to earn a wild card berth in every season since the NFL expanded to three wild card teams per conference.

Nah he had to say he has grown men in the locker room. There’s a reason they can’t sustain winning streaks or get complacent and get by teams like Denver feelings tensioned after a couple wins.

  2. Saskbucs Says:

Can they string together good games and not be looking ahead to the week off?

I have serious doubts about this week, based on the fact that it seems like this team under Bowles will be very prepared one week and look cohesive, competent… and then the next week it looks like they didn’t prepare at all. These next 2 games are huge for Bowles. Beat the 49ers and Giants… win some fans confidence back.

I am confident they can win 5 after the bye if Evans and Dean are healthy. 10-7 works for me, will still be upset about the Falcons games and handing them the division though.

  3. Dave Pear Says:

Gotta have a head coach and a defensive coordinator (two men) in the locker room.

    Bucs have neither.

  4. Panhandle Buc Says:

Need to go into the bye week with a W at home and primed for a run after the bye week! Can’t have another loss at home…

  5. Panhandle Buc Says:

NFC North is going to start beating each other up, but 11 wins feels to be the magic number this year!

  6. Hodad Says:

The Bucs aren’t a playoff team this year time to face it.

  7. bucnjim Says:

Love the fact he’s calling out players who need to show up. Problem is we’re the second youngest team in the league and I guarantee with the injuries to starters we are the youngest in the entire NFL. Grow up fast young dudes!

  8. HC Grover Says:

Bowles will bring back the 3rd down punt to play it safe.

Good for Baker. He has been around enough to know what needs to be done. Sounds like he is motivating the team for a win against the 49ers and after the bye. Mike could be back for that Giants game too.

  10. drdneastup Says:

Not having Mike hasn’t been the problem, not having a consistent pass rush and a defense has.

  11. Badbucs Says:

A grown man would have gone for two
And you know It Baker. How long can the team stand up for the fool losing games out from under their effort.

  12. Proudbucsfan Says:

Unfortunately I have no confidence in this team to beat the 49er’s this Sunday. I had such high hopes for this season and the defense killed it. I really hope another team doesn’t poach our OC for head coach next season.

We almost won the last two….we’re still in this….MADMAX THUNDERDOME!!!!
