Bill Belichick: Tristan Wirfs Is Best NFL Left Tackle

November 5th, 2024

A guy who a growing sect of Bucs fans wants to coach the team next season has watched a lot of Bucs football lately.

Tampa Bay has been on two Monday Night Football games and Bill Belichick, aka Bill Belicheat, has broken down chunks of the games for the ManningCast on BSPN2.

For those who missed it last week, the legendary six-rings head coach ranked his best players in the league through eight weeks of action. An All-Belichick team was chosen and guess who was the only left tackle on the roster?

That’s right. Belicheat chose Tristan Wirfs as his best left tackle in the game.

Belicheat had more to say about Wirfs last night and Joe had to laugh/wince when Rachaad White ran left for the Bucs’ opening touchdown. “Running behind Wirfs, that’s high percentage football,” Belicheat deadpanned.

The Bucs, as Joe has written many times, ran behind Wirfs at left tackle last season less often than any other position on the line.

What makes Wirfs and the Bucs’ so damn exciting is their youth and relative inexperience for a unit playing so well.

Wirfs is in his second year at left tackle. Ben Bredeson has had a limited number of starts at left guard. Graham Barton is a rookie. Cody Mauch is a second-year player. And Luke Goedeke is in his second season as an NFL right tackle. All are 26 years old or younger.

Belichick (and tons of other 2025 head coaching candidates) would love to get their mitts on the Bucs’ offensive line.

Luke is a top 5 RT

  2. Kenton Smith Says:

Don’t think for a minute Bellidunce would be an upgrade from Bowles. Bowles is and will be our coach- and he should be.

  3. Tampabaybucfan Says:

No facemask on Wirfs last night..

  4. Kenton Smith Says:

A girlfriend 50 years younger. No respect from me and I’m sure other players would feel the same. Without Brady he’s a loser.

  5. adam from ny Says:

let the little fish swim next to the big whale…

bucky behind big wirfy for the win !

  6. Cometowin2 Says:

    Liam for head coach!

  7. Tye Says:

near about anyone with a decent football I.Q. will be a significant upgrade at HC than Bowels!!!

  8. Stillabucsfan Says:

Can Bill give Bowles some pointers on defense? All I want for Christmas is a DEFENSE!

  9. Larrd Says:

Love is love! Don’t be youngfoxophobic!

  10. Mhystc Says:

Imagine if bill was calling our defense.. not Bowles.

  11. Chrisonthecape Says:

Bill, perhaps you will be coaching him soon. Bet you go for 2 last night. But you only have 6 rings, so what do you know?

    ^^^^^

For how long? He’s got a bruised melon. This really concerns me. I think/hope he opts for early retirement, like Ali.

  13. Bartow Buc Says:

So glad we have Wirfs ! Isn’t the definition of a face mask penalty a grab and pulll? Not a touch of the helmet ? Someone help me here good gosh they should have waived that off !!

The Bucs played the Chiefs very well last night, did about all we could do. Very exciting game ! The NFL got their moneys worth on Monday Night Football.

    Go Bucs !!!!

  14. JustOneGame Says:

    Did they fire Bowles yet??

Promote Liam to see what he has a as a HC before next season

  15. BuckyBuc Says:

Bill for HC if we can keep Coen as OC

  16. buccaneric Says:

No belicheck, please. Elevate the OC, hire a DC, call it good. Belicheck would wreck the culture in no time, and right now these guys are playing hard but the coaching is letting them down.

  17. Usedtocould Says:

Zero chance Bowles could win us a superbowl

  18. Bucsfan81 Says:

Let the Bowles count down begin. Owners won’t fire him until after the season and I am sure Bowles will find a way to beat enough scrub teams to keep his job for yet another year so we can do this again next year.

  19. Bucben1961 Says:

I say promote Liam to hc and bring someone like Robert Saleh in to run the defence and for God’s sake let’s not wait till next…hell let’s not wait till lunch…there’s still time to save our season but not if Todd is allowed to hang around and cause more destruction

  20. Pmike Says:

+1 on keep BB out of our organization as a HC.

  21. garbs65 Says:

Speaking of the phantom facemask penalty on Wirfs…not sure why that call can’t be reversed via the same mechanism that the uneligible man downfield was…reversed by the referees monitoring the game….seems pretty reasonable that it can be done. I’m more bothered by the non-call on the Chief’s final drive where the false start was ignored. Those calls are almost never missed…and I’m usually impressed how the ref’s can pick up some of the slight movements by the OL. But that miss was a glaring miss. But I’m sure I’m biased.

  22. PassingThru Says:

Good to see Wirfs getting some love.

Bill would be a major upgrade over Bowles, just lock the doors and don’t answer his calls on Day 1 and Day 2 of the draft.

  23. MegaFailure Says:

    GO GET BILL BELICHICK!

  24. Bobby Says:

Bill is an offensive system coach like Bowles is a defensive system coach. If you have the correct players to fit the scheme then it’s brilliant but if injuries or losing Brady change your ability to work your scheme then you have to be able to adapt. I think I’d trust Bowles more to find the pieces in next years draft. I still remember holding the Chiefs to 3 FG’s in the Super Bowl. That was remarkable. The offense is coming along just fine and if we can get a good cover LB and someone who can bring the heat from the edge along with another CB and I think we’ll see a marked improvement. Having said that, if they moved Liam to HC I wouldn’t be shedding any tears.

  25. Locked In Says:

BB would want GM role as well. No thanks

  26. Ds Says:

Wouldn’t want Bill touching the draft

  27. Permanently Moderated Says:

See, Joe. You worried for nothing. Wirfs is All World.

  28. BucVoyager Says:

Definitely don’t want BB. He had his run (QB) now he can sit and enjoy his girlfriend.

We have a great GM and now have to worry about the draft and a new OC because as of last night, this season is toast.

With Godwin and Evans out we basically have no chance to overcome the terrible defense. I know Evans comes back after the bye but that’s not enough.

  29. Jerseybuc Says:

No bill. Promote coen bring in Saleh as DC

  30. Bucnjim Says:

Reminds me of the facemask call that wasn’t a facemask. A little off-topic, but the amount of calls the Chiefs get weekly is unreal. Anyone who has watched their games regularly can attest to that. America’s team and America’s QB for sure!

  31. ElioT Says:

We need a change at HC and mentality. Need a younger, more motivating, modern and innovative approach to the NFL and where things are heading.

    NO to Bowles
    NO to Belichick

My vote is for Liam Coen!

What he was able to scheme and call last night was amazing IMO. Truly making something out of nothing as it pertains to having no WRs and the Chiefs shutting down the run.

    Go Bucs!

  32. Gipper Says:

Don’t want Belichik for a coach. He is too old and preoccupied with his 24 year old girl friend. Just hire Robert Saleh to be DC and make Coen the new head coach if Coach Bowles can’t rally the team through the season end. Whomever coaches next year, there has to be a wholesale change in defensive personnel. Current linebackers and safeties can’t cover and other than LVD who is in 13th year, they can’t tackle. If team finishes year 9-8, Bowles isn’t going anywhere. It will be miraculous given the absence of talent on defense. Need to find out about Braswell right now. He should be on the field for 90% of defensive snaps.

  33. Funderstruck Says:

I’m ALL IN for BB. Joe’s note last week of Coen being a huge Pats fan growing up makes all the sense in the world regarding keeping Coen here. The worst-kept secret is that BB wants to break the wins record. He won’t be here 5yrs; maybe 2. Coen (who wants to keep leveling up) would absolutely stall his ascension to have a chance to learn from BB. McVay, Stoops, and BB influences would cement him as ready to lead this team in 2026 or 2027.

And how incredible would it be for the Bucs to win it all next year with BB, evening him with Brady once again. You couldn’t take Tampa out of that history ever!!

  34. Beeej Says:

Well, we have progressed from “we will never get to a super bowl with Baker”, to “we will never get to a super bowl with Todd”

  35. Tbbucs3 Says:

Mike Edwards asking for release from Buffalo….

    Jason Licht. DO SOMETHING!!

  36. Tbbucs3 Says:

Edwards is a physical safety that Buffalo doesn’t know how to use…..already knows Bowels defense and could play underneath to make of for lots of the Bucs coverage flaws over the middle.

A very solid safety in his time w the Bucs and Cheifs last year.

Your move Licht, do something in season for once.

  37. 79bucfan Says:

Bill needs to come here, even if it means Jason’s job too

  38. Panhandle Buc Says:

Bye Bye Marshon Lattimore…no longer in the NFC South!

  39. Bobby Says:

Hmmm interesting….we will see what happens with Bill B in January 2025

  40. gbobucsfan Says:

Looks like a lot of our future opponents are trading area key pieces. Should be an interesting finish to the season!

  41. Show Me the TDs Says:

Coen as head coach. Saleh or Dennis Allen as DC.

  42. El HEFE Says:

We go for two points and don’t make it everybody’s talking about how bowls is an idiot for going forward we don’t go for it and going to overtime and we lose because of the coin toss hose is an idiot. I mean, everybody had us at losing by more than two touchdowns and now everyone is mad because we lost by six points by a team that is undefeated you talk about his defense yeah we have players that are banged up and not in right now that’s what the defense is lacking death at inside linebackers and a decent edge rusher hopefully we can get more help at corner too, but for everyone to really be mad at balls for tying up the game and playing it safe just in case we did not get the two points is ridiculous. I’m pretty sure a lot of you guys have never even played a sports but talk big game because you play Madden.

  43. Rod Munch Says:

Can anyone explain why the Bucs cut the better punter?

  44. Rod Munch Says:

Going through the stats for the season…

David is 1st on the team in tackles, and tied for 2nd in sacks, INTs and forced fumbles, and tied for 3rd in TFL.

  45. Buddha Says:

Interesting data from DVOA Guru, Schatz. Tampa has played the toughest schedule in the NFL. The schedule that remains? #32, the easiest!

  46. Architek Says:

Top 10 OL in the NFL easily

  47. ChiBuc Says:

Highest pd LT, S, and top $ for a 30+ WR. Licht is betting the blind in free agency and trades, while going all in on his dueces in the hole. It makes no sense. Y’all complain about Bowles’s hesitancy to go for 2, meanwhile Licht has been hedging his bets all year (whitehead was our premier fa acquisition this yr). And trust me, I wanted Bowles replaced since that rams debacle and he cemented that sentiment during the Houston game

  48. Buc4evr Says:

Bucs were screwed last night on the drive where the phantom face mask was called on Wirfs. Why don’t the refs ever pay for this sh*t?

  49. John Says:

bring back mike edwards. just got realeased by buffalo. dude is always around the ball.

  50. Babygrace Says:

Fire Bowels and make Coen the head coach. Let Coen hire the best defensive coach and get the best assistants he can get.

  51. Babygrace Says:

If we hire BB we will lose because Coen will be hired as a head coach by someone this year and we have to start all over. NO FOR BB!! Hire Coen and get a good DC.

  52. Tucker Says:

Remember the days when Joe giving so much flack for the move and look at wirfs now still one of the best at his position. lol

  53. Burl Morgan Says:

I’m done with Todd Bowles. Liam Coen has been a pleasant surprise in the short time that he has been here. Make Liam the Head Coach & bring in a good defensive coordinator. He has done enough where other teams around the league might make him an offer. Just a gut feeling here😏🏈
