Todd Bowles’ Bucs Record Drops Below .500

November 4th, 2024

Bucs fans are irate.

Tampa Bay is racking up should-have-won games and now the team is 4-5 with a three-game losing streak.

Head coach Todd Bowles dropped his career Bucs record in the regular season to a game below .500 tonight with an overtime loss to the Chiefs.

Bowles’ defense was better than it has been in weeks but nowhere near good enough. The Chiefs were 12-for-18 on third down and 1-for-1 on fourth down. That’s unacceptable.

The defense, Bowles’ defense, couldn’t get off the field. Kansas City had over 40 minutes of time of possession.

There was no edge rush, as usual. And too many missed tackles and open space in the middle of the field again marred the defensive effort.

Bowles found an interior pass rush tonight against a strong offensive line, but it was nowhere close to enough.

Bowles has to find defensive fixes or it’s a safe bet he’s going to be a very nervous employee come January unless the offense can bail him out.

Don’t have the personel to fix it and man it’s hard to win when DBs are playing 7 yards off the ball

  2. D-Mac Says:

    Scarecrow Bowles needs to go!

  3. BucsBeast Says:

HE made the choice to put the game on his DEFENSE.
    HIS CALL.
    HIS DEFENSE.
    HIS SCHEME.
    HIS BS PLAY CALLING.

    HIS LOSS.

  4. Curse of Gruden Says:

    Time for Bowles to go.
    Bucs can do better.

  5. Ben the GA Buc Says:

We keep getting beat in the middle of the field and this “defensive guru” of ours can’t figure out how to adjust to it. The book is out on us and we’ll have to play mistake-free ball on offense the rest of the year to even have a small chance.

Bowles has to figure it out or go. His scheme is costing us games we should be winning.

  6. ElioT Says:

He’s a loser. Simple as that.

    Bucs are average at best.

  7. Oxycondomns Says:

this team is ripe for bellicheck

  8. Old Sombrero Says:

    Agreed,……. Defensive fixes for sure.

  9. BucsBeast Says:

Bowles is done. Bruce’s guy isn’t HC material.

  10. Drunkinybor Says:

Just from watching on gamecast. Bowles just seems luke a coward. You can’t give the ball back to Mahomes. Why not fo for 2 at the end of the game after we scored. I’m starring to really really dislike the guy. Why do we never ever ever win o. Prime time. Sorry for venting but my father in law is a chiefs fan and hearing him cheering is devastating and I want to punch the wind.

  11. adam from ny Says:

when troy said he would have opted for 2 to try and steal the win…

    i kinda agreed…

oh well…i guess coach really still believes in his defense

  12. Grant Says:

Bowles doesn’t play the positions on the field. We were literally missing Top three receivers and found a way to play with the undefeated Chiefs. Not to mention missing blatant calls playing the refs as well. Britt has to be taken off the field and far away from One Buc place he is indescribably terrible

  13. Cometowin2 Says:

Fire Bowles and hire Liam as head coach!!!

  14. Herbiebuc Says:

Todd bowels can’t make Winfield make two interceptions, Todd bowels can’t dictate a coin toss lol he def can’t beat the refs Juwan Taylor was jumping all game ! Even Troy and buck was forced to say something. I truly don’t blame Bowles for this ! The players he forced to play with are not great Justin hates is our starting cornerback thats scary!

  15. VOT Says:

40 minutes TOP is not an improvement…31 points to a team that has been struggling on O all year – no one struggles against TODD

This team is going no where fast

  16. Chris from Gainesville Says:

He needs to go. If someone steals Cohen in the off season and we get stuck with Bowles another year it will be a disaster. He’s not a god HC. He defense has never been consistently good. Promote Liam and fire Bowles.

  17. Darren caputo Says:

Todd Bowles is done. Why are we still holding on to this man? Please let him go. The defense is horrible. They could stop any 3 and longs. The officiating sucked though. I am so sick of the product they put on the field. Cohen does a good job. Only positive. Get bellicheck. I want a passionate coach. One who yells!

  18. Mike Johnson Says:

Even with everybody healthy and on board, this would have been a tough game for our Bucs. The defense did play better. But plum ran out of gas in OT. I already knew we were losing this one before it was played.

  19. Saskbucs Says:

Fire Bowles. Refs call game for Chiefs again. NFL OT rules are garbage, need both teams getting a possession.

And yeah FIRE BOWLES! Will never win these games with his conservative approach. Have to go for it on 4th downs, maybe not the 4th and 16 but nice run play on 1st and 10 down 7 with 4 to play!

Nothing to lose, undefeated Chiefs and instead of grabbing your bag and going on 4th or going for 2 you stay soft and look what happens. Disgusted with this play not to lose crap for the 3rd straight year.

  20. Steve Says:

It’s one thing to believe in your defense – that’s faith – it’s another thing to believe in your defense after watching them play a whole game like they did – that’s insanity.

  21. adam from ny Says:

one of the worst parts of the night was when mahomes was doing the post game on field interview, coach bowles came up to him all smiles, threw him a hung and compliment, and squoze his azz 🙂

  22. Red86 Says:

The defense was decent because of my suggestion to eat up the clock. Todd failed with having cbs off wrs 10 yards or more in rain. There’s rarely double moves in rain. Not going for the first when Baker missed seeing the slant. Not going for two, because again all defense gets worst late in the game. SMH.

  23. Will Says:

Why wait to January. Pull the plug on this guy now. One of the assistants can do just as bad I’m sure or heck maybe they’ll do better.
This soft zone he loves to run is getting us killed. CBs have been playing press since highschool. Let them do what they’re good at. How does Kelce get a free release all game. Lavonte should’ve been man up on him all night just like the Superbowl.

As a fan I would’ve been fine losing that game going for 2. Instead our scarey coach plays for OT and for the 2nd time the offense doesn’t even see the ball in OT.

  24. 79bucfan Says:

It’s time Jason goes as well and bring in Bill

  25. Dewey Selmon Says:

This is going to be Dirk/Lovie part 2. Coen is going to be HC next year.

  26. Darren caputo Says:

Do the Glazers ever see what their fan base wants. Bowles needs to go. Get bellicheck.

  27. John Says:

i see us losing next week then hitting bye and rattling off 7 straight to finish 11-6

  28. big daddy bucs Says:

fire todd bowles bro please for the love of God im getting tired of games coming down to the wire and me getting my hopes up just for this balls for brains of a head coach to dial up the worst coverage ever. bucs defense needs weekly bbqs or a game night or honestly just duke it out. whatever it takes ti get this defense back like it was v lions in week 2. also make sure todd bowles is in that fight if they end up duking it out. then u can fire hi

  29. BillyBucco Says:

Bowles knew there was still too much time to go for 2. Because he blew his wad calling a TO at the 1 with 30 seconds left.
    Such an imbecile.
It is the same story every week with this guy.
Horrible clock management, no guts, refusal to bench Hayes, etc etc.
Our defense was on the field for 70+ plays and over 46 minutes including OT and this guy goes to overtime.
He is simply not HC material.

  30. Cometowin2 Says:

    Joe,

Can you ask Bowles why he always has us call tails in OT and loses every time. He sucks plain and simple at EVERYTHING!!!!!!!!

  31. Saskbucs Says:

Agreed Chris. Losing Coen and retaining Bowles is worst case scenario. Especially when guys like Belichick and Vrabel and Saleh are out there. Too much talent for this team to be worse than .500 with this guy. If we were in a good division maybe I would feel different, but .500 in bottom 3 division in football last 3 years. Unacceptable.

D can’t get stops, HC doesn’t know how to be aggressive or use timeouts. I tried to support Bowles this season, I really did, but it’s the same old same old and he costs us wins.

  32. Frank Pillow Says:

The real indictment on Todd is that he continues to make the same kinds of game management mistakes over and over again. At best he’s lucky instead of good when it all works out (which it rarely does). He’s also loyal to players who simply don’t produce. And tonight was the epitome of everything that’s wrong with his coaching and leadership style. You can’t coach scared in this league.

  33. infomeplease Says:

Maybe that would change if he ever decided to play to win instead of playing not to lose. He had the best chance of his HC career to show the NFL the Bucs are winners. But instead he kicks a field goal instead of going for 2 and a win! That is a classic TB move! Play 50/50 ball. Good job Todd, get lucky on Sunday and you’ll be 50/50.

  34. Rob Says:

Fire Bowles tonight. Dan Campbell is the attitude we need. Promote Liam and admit Bowles just doesn’t have what it takes as a HC. No way we don’t go for 2 and the win against the world champs. If we don’t succeed, sends a messsge to the teams and fans you want to win. I can’t stand Bowles and his ultra conservative nature. Less than 500 not acceptable. Wirfs non facemask altered the course of this game and the NFL should suspend these refs and any half blind embicile could see Wirfs never touched the facemask. That was the refs protecting the undefeated Chiefs. Tell me I’m wrong

  35. Jeagan1999 Says:

I know….it sucks! But chill the hell out, Bucs fans! We got 8 games left… and seven of them are very winnable. We will make the playoffs… count on it!

  36. Bring back the lawn chairs Says:

Lighten up y’all these Bucs showed up tonight. They fought hard. No quit. I’ve never seen double V play so hard. It was refreshing not getting embarrassed on Monday night and on national tv. I’d still like to see more use of Irving. It seems like everytime he makes a play, they take him out. Oh well, their call.

  37. adam from ny Says:

josh hayes is at the kansas city police dept right now…

he is claiming he was gang raped by the chiefs offense 🙂

  38. TheScourge Says:

Glazers don’t fire in season so we’re gonna have to just endure it awhile longer. This is , at best, a six win team even with Evans returning. Expect a Schiano type ending to the Bowles era. Then let’s hope this team is attractive enough to land a decent replacement because that is by no means a guarantee.

  39. Rob Says:

And another thing…what the he!! Happened to Winfield? Made no plays. Dropped two interceptions and his literally half a$$ing it and not at least knocking the long pass at the three yard line showed he just isn’t playing to a high standard. Do your job!

  40. Red86 Says:

Let’s not forget the momentum changer when we had the lead and the 2nd down open slant was completely missed. Also, a crazy double reversal play in the rain of all things. But, I’m a hater to some for pointing out the truth.

Licht already told us that the Brady contract end after this season. So don’t expect a lot of money being spent on help. Licht is many times better than Mark “I only had GMC left” Dominik. Keep Licht dump Bowles.

  41. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Saints gonna get Bill Belichick

  42. MadMax Says:

Bye todd, its over….how much more do you need to see that its done Jason?

  43. jugheadfla Says:

Joe you no damn well that Coen wanted to go for 2 there and Bowels shot it down….His previous coach McVay would have gone for it

  44. ChrisBuc2327 Says:

    I’ve seen enough!!! #FireToiletBowles

Should have let more time runoff at the end and not call that time out so soon and you go for 2.knot give it back to Mahomes or go to OT.

I’m tired of his conservative approach and stupid clock management m. Move Liam to head coach and flush toilet Bowles!!!!!!!

  45. MegaFailure Says:

    go get Bill Belichick

  46. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Deserving or not, Todd isn’t going anywhere before the end of the season. The Glazers never fire HCs during a season. Never.

But…until today, neither did the Saints…

I don’t see us winning more than more 4-5 games this season…4 would be a losing season…5 would be a winning season.

9 wins is the cap for a Bowles led team. And we’d be luck to see that.

so, is 9-8 good enough to keep Bowles?

Unless we go deep into the playoffs (unlikely), I say no.

But it sure would be nice to beat the Chiefs in another superbowl.

  47. Tye Says:

Todd is who we thought he was, a loser as HC!

The offense did their job well but the defense helped no one….
Coen for HC cant be worse than Bowels!

  48. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

As to tonight…I listened on the radio…but honestly, I expected worse.

The Bucs took the best team in the NFL into overtime. They kept it close the entire game.

If this had actually been a Superbowl, it would have been a decent one…even though we lost.

So I’m not so mad about losing this one…I’m mad about the total record.

  49. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    TheScourge Says:
“This is , at best, a six win team even with Evans returning.”

    Naw…they’ll win 4 more games at least…maybe 5.

  50. bucfansince84 Says:

    Jason licht owns 50%

  51. bucfansince84 Says:

    moral victories are for losers

  52. Day1BucFan Says:

Bowles has to go. The defensive scheme and play calling, which are his specialties, are horrible. Give the team over to Liam before he is poached.

  53. TheScourge Says:

Jason Licht most certainly does own 50% of this situation. Pure hubris. The failure to load up on some veteran depth in critical spots became an obvious mistake once injuries began to pile up. They probably thought they could get away with it this year like they did last year but younger depth pieces aren’t as good as the team thought. I’m afraid they won’t get a chance to correct it without Bowles paying the ultimate price.

  54. Bobby M. Says:

Bowles is a .500 HC with a peak season of 9 wins……his body of work is clear, he’s taking a team deep in the playoffs. He’s always on the wrong side of any decision whether it’s due to bad luck or bad decisions, the results are not there. At the end of the day, the NFL operates on results.

  55. Bigz Says:

He had a losing record when he hired him. He’s always been and will be a losing hc. As for the D, that won’t be fixed for a year or two. Too many holes and LD can’t play much longer. He’s covered up a lot of poor LB play for his fellow LBs.
Cohen appears to be hc material.

  56. Wayne perez Says:

    Nice guy bad coach

  57. Ed Says:

Vea was a monster last night but where was the help stopping the run when KC just ran straight into the middle of this defensive line. Hall, JTS and Nelson are lightweights at holding up their ground. Kancey and Braswell are liability vs power running offenses. Licht can’t hit on drafting defensive lineman.

  58. BucU Says:

Bowles can stay or he can go. Don’t really give a F at this point.
