“He’s Not Going To Be Able To Keep Up”

November 4th, 2024

Joe hasn’t checked in on Gerald McCoy yet, but is there any high-profile analyst out there thinking the Bucs can win tonight in Kansas City?

Joe looks forward to finding one or two, but it is almost lunchtime.

Enter CBS NFL super insider Prickly Pete Prisco, a pro-Bucs guy who picked Tampa Bay to win the NFC South. Prisco says the Bucs have no shot tonight.

Baker Mayfield and the woeful Bucs defense against Patrick Mahomes? Prisco says Mayfield will see some success but “he’s not going to be able to keep up.”

Prisco got no argument from his CBS HQ panelists.

Kansas City is on a 13-game winning streak that includes the last Super Bowl, so it’s all very understandable.

However, Joe sees the Chiefs as so vulnerable. Their offense has been decimated by injuries and no quarterback can carry a team all season long. The Bucs can score points and the offensive line is seasoned and strong.

Joe absolutely would have pushed back on Prisco if Joe were sitting on the CBS panel but, sadly, Joe wouldn’t have picked the Bucs, either.

You can hear Joe and Ira Kaufman’s look at the game below.

  1. JimBobBuc Says:

Bucs defense is the problem, but the offense will be challenged by a very good Chiefs defense. Hopefully we don’t lose any more players to injury. I’ll be interested to see if Hayes or Funderburk starts, and how they play.

Will Licht be selling at the trade deadline? I don’t see any reason to buy when we’ll have a new HC and DC next year.

  2. Please Says:

Bucs win if Coen doesn’t abandon the run and Baker protects the ball. The defense can do just enough but the Offense (not saying anything new) has to be the catalyst to the W, and be nasty doing it.

  3. The Fighting Schianoes Says:

Tonight is feeling like an upset!

    LFG!!

  4. Rayjay1122 Says:

I would use the pony package and also feed Cade Otton often. That should counter the press coverages a bit. As far as when the BUCS are on defense, just pray to whatever you choose to pray to because this can be pretty painful to watch tonight if they have a bad game tonight.

  5. Scotty Mack Says:

Baker and the boys don’t play defense. In fact, it seems as if only a handful of Bucs players actually do. THAT is why Baker will not be able to keep up. I expect the Chiefs to put up their most points of the season tonight.

  6. Sam Says:

Ill be there to let you know 🙂

  7. Bucsfan Says:

Lavonte David gives Travis Kelce fits . Bucs must establish the run and tell Lavonte to stick to Kelce all night and we have a chance to pull off the upset.Remember the forecast is horrible with showers and thunderstorms likely, so just RUN LIAM RUN.

  8. SB Says:

cant wait for the Bucs to Win tonight!

  9. Red Skeleton Says:

Our Offense gives us a chance but our Defense has more holes than most of my neighbors storm blown fences

  10. Oneilbuc Says:

We are losing this game to many injuries!!

  11. JK Says:

    Upset??? Nope
Just another W like over mighty Detroit and Washington

    I guarantee it

  12. itzok Says:

It is the NFL the Chiefs will lose to somebody. not likely its the Bucs. Our defense is god awful

  13. Aaron Says:

On paper we get blown out, but the NFL rarely works that way…I can see Bowles pulling a rabbit out of his hat with an effective defensive scheme and turning Kc over…we shall see!

    Go Bucs!

  14. Badbucs Says:

If we don’t turn the ball over more than once we might have a shot. Puncher’s chance if we keep scoring with them. An interception or two for the good guys would go a long way too. Go Bucs.

  15. Orange Republic Says:

I think Baker still has a huge chip on his shoulder from Texas Tech choosing Mahomes over him. I doubt Mahomes or the Chiefs care much about that history, but is suspect Baker will have a little something extra for tonight.

  16. Colonel Angus Says:

Bucs have a knack for showing up every now and then when nobody expects it. We shall see if that’s the case tonight.

  17. Pmike Says:

We have always been a tough W for the Chiefs. Bowles knows how to disrupt Mahomes. They key will be if our defensive players are cohesive or if they are playing independent like the last few games

  18. BucsMinisterFuller Says:

51-17, Chiefs up by 30 at the half.
Joe Buck mentions the “depleted” o-line for the super bowl losing Chiefs no less than 3 times.

  19. Peter Says:

    Everybody blames the defense
    They have blame
Our QB turning the ball over 4 times the last 2 games

  20. Chris Cotten Says:

Shocking the world tonight in the mud and the muck of rainy Arrowhead
    Bucs win 27-21

  21. Bartow Buc Says:

I always believe the Bucs can win. We have the tools it takes to win against good football teams. Can Coach Bowles and Coen put together a game plan that takes advantage of our strengths and pits them against their weaknesses?

I believe they can and we can win !!

Hang on to your couches and chairs Bucs fans !!

    Go Bucs !! L G !!

  22. HC Grover Says:

Maybe but not likely due to Bowles D. Doubt if Coen can keep up with the scoring bonanza by the Chiefs.

  23. garbs65 Says:

Like many on here, I don’t think we can keep up the pace of scoring I am expecting from KC. Hey, I hope somehow our defense shows up in a BIG way and proves me wrong…always pulling for the upset.

    Go Bucs!

  24. AMI_Chris Says:

Bucs defense is woeful. Mahomes will find whichever receiver is wide open, which will happen on every play. I can only hope for many weather delays that will allow me to go to bed before this debacle unfolds.

  25. Jerseybuc Says:

Bucs defense will be a no show again n hope radio follows the Dennis Allen treatment

  26. Ted Says:

Bowles defense will be bad, another offensive effort wasted tonight unfortunately.

  27. Bucswin? Says:

Zero turnovers, zero bad ref calls against us, we win. Go BUCS

  28. Gipper Says:

Kelce is going to own the middle of the field. It is shocking to think Kelce will be so wide open. Here is the explanation in advance; “We had communications issues.”

Real problem is defense does not have enough talent either physically or mentally. That will not change until next season when there will be at least 6 new defensive starters. If Bucs move out of their Cover Zero zone and play press coverage, Mahomes will just take the ball and pick up big chunks on the ground. Only hope is Baker and offense can play ground and pound and keep Chiefs offense off the field.

  29. View from 132 Says:

Joe Buck mentions the “depleted” o-line for the super bowl losing Chiefs no less than 300* times.

    Fixed it for you BucsMinister.

  30. Show Me the TDs Says:

Don’t read the articles for football knowledge. Is this the same Joe who wrote 1,000 articles about how “old and injured” Kirk Cousins would be lousy and how the Broncos game should be a cake-walk?

  31. unbelievable Says:

Chiefs offense will “get right” tonight vs the Bucs and put up 33+ points easily.

    Our defense is TERRIBLE.

On the other side, the Chiefs defense is tops in the league. They will stop the run and force Baker to make long throws to unreliable WRs in order to win.

  32. Oscar Says:

Interesting that no one seems to be mentioning that the Bucs will miss Evans and Godwin. Just because the ground game is significantly better and Cade Otton has been coming up big the last few games and the offense did really well against the Falcons doesn’t mean it is sustainable indefinitely particularly against the Chiefs defense without E&G. That coupled with our underachieving defense makes this game a very difficult challenge. I’m hoping to be pleasantly shocked but I won’t hold my breath.

  33. Oscar Says:

I understand it though! Being without those two is something we would rather not think about.

  34. Cobraboy Says:

Well, “Joe” told us repeatedly that Cousins was cooked, too.

That has not worked out well…

  35. Cobraboy Says:

    I expect a beatdown tonight.

    This D is All-World terrible.

  36. Mike Johnson Says:

I’ll repeat what I have been saying all season. What use is scoring 30 when the opposition scores 31?

  37. GoneGator Says:

Skrew the unbelievers and the negativity 👎🏼.

We’ve got to believe we can beat anybody on any given sunday. Only hoping no players read these comments by so called fans with nothing good to say, ever 🤷🏼

KC is a huge test, they’re well coached and talented and they are confident.
BUT….. We’re capable of spanking their a$$. Have to play 4 quarters of solid football all 3 phases but we can do that.

I’m not saying we should be super confident, we could get stomped, but unlike many here I refuse to go into any game thinking a loss is a foregone conclusion.

  38. HC Grover Says:

No matter how bad we get blown out Bowles will play the starters. To the last starter. To the last minute.

  39. D Cone Says:

If the NFL is fixed to fit a ‘story line’ as it is often projected here then a Chiefs loss tonight with make the AFC West a little closer of a race and will set up the Bills vs Chiefs as a game that should the Bills win would hold the tie breaker for the Number 1 seed in the AFC and have the road to a Chiefs 3 Peat going thru Buffalo.

Weather might be wet like the 2023 Bucs vs Panthers game in Tampa but a Heck of a lot Colder. Slow Track might be an equalizer.

  40. Usfbuc Says:

Bucs are going to win tonight, then we will beat the 49ers too
