Stingy Chiefs Defense Will Be Bucs’ Biggest Hurdle
November 3rd, 2024Joe’s mowed down plenty of Pepcid AC Maximum Strength this week thinking of Pat Mahomes going up against the ole’ Bucs defense.
Yeah, Joe thinks Halloween may come four days late for the Bucs.
Long-time Chiefs beat writer Adam Teicher, who now types for BSPN, believes it is the Chiefs’ defense that will be the biggest worry for the Bucs, not necessarily Mahomes.
And the Tampa Bay offense may challenge that same defense.
The Chiefs have held five of their seven opponents under their season average in scoring, including two in the NFL’s top 10 in points. But Mayfield and the Bucs, fourth in scoring at more than 29 points per game, present Kansas City’s biggest challenge. The Chiefs had their most productive pass-rushing game of the season last week against the Raiders with five sacks, and they added edge rusher Joshua Uche in a trade with the Patriots this week.
Here is where the Bucs may succeed against the Chiefs defense: pounding the ball.
The Bucs have a deep stable of running backs and the offensive line is playing really good football. Joe knows those big uglies love to run block.
With a tough defense like the Chiefs have, it’s difficult for Joe to believe Baker Mayfield will have a lot of success throwing. If this Chiefs can shut down legitimate Nos. 1-2 receivers, then imagine what they can do against Trey Palmer, Sterling Shepard, Ryan Miller and Jalen McMillan?
The Bucs defense is in such shambles, Joe would thinks it could be best to play keep-away and run the ball. The less the Bucs defense is on the field the better.

Nah…it’ll be keeping Mahomes from running for 35yds or more a couple rushing tds and Kelcy from having 80 or 90 yds and 1 or 2 tds. It’s our Defense that’s our biggest hurdle. Maybe this is defense rebound week?
Now the rest of the NFL has an idea how Coen will plan with Evans and Godwin out. So it’ll definitely be a lot tougher this week to pass to the TEs without a strong game from our receiver room. Regardless it’ll be an interesting game. Go Bucs.

Nope, it isn’t even close. The biggest problem for the Bucs will be Mahomes carving up the Bucs defense like a Thanksgiving turkey. Mahomes will be able to throw to Kelce with no coverage whatsoever or run if he decides. He will have no pressure from the Dline and Britt will not be able to cover. It is going to be a total slaughter. Maybe the Glazers will finally see that Bowles is a lousy head coach after the next two games and that this team lacks talent on defense in critical positions.

Travis Kelce will feast over the middle – three touchdowns?
November 3rd, 2024 at 9:04 am
What a career Spagnuolo has had. When it’s all said and done he will go down as one of the best D coordinators ever. I’m definitely concerned about Britt vs Kelce since David will be on the attack via the blitz. At least with White, David could play more coverage instead of being the primary blitzed. With Britt he’s got multiple concerns. We’re capable of scoring 20 on them and holding them to 17 if we play perfect.

My gut tells me there will be a Bucs beat-down by a vastly superior team.
Chefs D is good. Bucs O is good, but generally, a good D can slow a good O.
Bucs D is horrible, horrendous, abysmally inept, especially defending the pass over the middle where every opponent has feasted. Chefs O has Mahomes and Kelsey.
End of story.
The only hope is a grinding ground game for the Bucs. If the Chefs get ahead two scores, that goes out the window.
We will see more shots of Taylor Swift than a scoreboard with the Bucs leading.
…..
I never thought I’d see a Bucs/Bowles D so bad that I look back fondly on Mike Smith…

I agree Joe. If I were Coen, I’d script the first two offensive possessions with a lot of quick passes with a few run plays to set up the run game. Then let our o-line get physical and commit to the run game creatively. Feed Bucky and Tucker and keep on feeding them. They are chomping at the bit. Use White in his natural hybrid role as well. If we had done that the last two games, I believe we would’ve fared better. Mayfield would get more on one on ones and wouldn’t have to take so many risks. It would also help our defense.

if kc eats all night in the middle of the defense, game over…
mahomes will “scramble & circle around” with his fake “bad ankle” and will throw darts into the middle of our defense as we bring pressure…
just pray it doesn’t happen…”travis kwift” could have a big night

Chiefs haven’t exceeded 30 points YET this year. Their offense is kind or where ours was last year
November 3rd, 2024 at 10:01 am
Sit back and watch Buc fans. The Chiefs actually have a Defense.
November 3rd, 2024 at 10:02 am
KC is on a mission for a three-peat and a perfect record season. And they haven’t been that great this season, just lucky. This Monday it’s in their stadium too. That is a rough one with noise. However, you never know. The Bucs could do well and come up with a close win. Hoping.

I will take Taylor Swift over pics of a scoreboard any day!
November 3rd, 2024 at 12:33 pm
Mahomes will shred Bucs defense.
November 3rd, 2024 at 12:40 pm
Bowles’ defense will let Kelce eat and and the broadcasters will spend 90% of their time talking about KC and Swift.

Our biggest hurdle will be playing withiut Evans and Godwin… Who writes this fluff
November 3rd, 2024 at 1:04 pm
Without Godwins and Evans we will still need a lot of points. Will we? Our defense defense needs to be at its best today. Will they? How well has thi team been prepared this week?
Go Bucs! Shock the Cheifs today!

Scalp the Chiefs! GO BUCS!
November 3rd, 2024 at 1:49 pm
I think the Chiefs are going to stack the box and make us beat them downfield. There may be a lot of one on one coverage for Baker to throw into. Hopefully Otton, McMillan, Palmer and company will step up. If so, our run game gets going.
I don’t think the Chiefs have played a team as offensively talented as the Bucs and if we hold them to 25 points or less we have a good chance of winning.
This should be a great game ! Another Barn Burner !! Hang on to your chairs !!
Go Bucs !! L G !!

The biggest hurdle is Lovie Smith II and his inability to teach his players their assignments, hold a scrub QB to less than 400 yards, stop a 3rd and long, stop the run, stop the pass, tackle, catch. Oh and giving up 40 points a game.
November 3rd, 2024 at 2:04 pm
Bucs biggest hurdle is Todd Bowles. No other defensive coordinator in the history of the NFL would drop their nose tackle and interior pass rusher back in coverage on a consistent basis when they are pro bowl caliber players. I never saw suh do it though I wonder why
November 3rd, 2024 at 2:28 pm
Not even sure I’ll watch the game at this point.
November 3rd, 2024 at 2:37 pm
Really? What a joke. Bucs’ strength is their offense and defense and both have been effectively neutered. Skipping it.
November 3rd, 2024 at 2:58 pm
I ground my teeth when Bowles said he did not watch our Super Bowl game against the Chiefs. I am simply floored.
November 3rd, 2024 at 3:02 pm
Anytime I start thinking that maybe the Bucs have a chance to improve, win a game, get in the playoffs etc.. I just visit JBF, read the negative whining and criticisms and bitching about the owners, front office, head coach, our RB1, Baker, and on and on, and I snap out of it.
It’s hopeless. The head coach is a clown, they refuse to bench the worst running back in the league and make a rookie lead back, they won’t trade for a “stud” (expensive) edge rusher or a new wide receiver blah blah blah.
On a serious note, THANK YOU to those who are still trying stay positive and have resisted the urge to become more critic than fan 👍🏼

1 edge rusher isn’t going to save this defense.
November 3rd, 2024 at 3:38 pm
That comment above was meant for a different article. If our offense gets shut down against the chiefs it’s going to be a slaughter

Joe’s Headline Stingy Chiefs Defense Will Be Bucs’ Biggest Hurdle
You are kidding me right. With this porous defense the score could be 42 to 49 with whoever get the ball last wins.
